Hi Judy - it's great to see you. Know what you mean about the winter blues. We all get them, I just keep popping iin here and try to keep them away//// These ladies do a good job.

Glenview, IL

Ohhhh Barb...How adorable is Nightengale!!!

Is he yours? is he going to stay that little, just gushing over hear, how utterly cute!

Glenview, IL

Hi Barb, cross posted, lol, yep been missing everyone, my own doing, but no more!

Anyways, I am working backwards in the posts, lol.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello All !

JUDY! I LOVE the Mom Song ! It's by a lady comedian, right? Hilarious...thank you for reminding me...

VOTE FOR: "Husbands are SO Over-rated".... ditto Debbie... I'll be cheering that they win the soccor game !

Betty those rocks are precious. What an awesome artist you are... I love the tic tac toe game....

Nightingale is a cutie pie....

Bingo for Books! what a great idea ! Wonder if Thunder has started the book I sent... Know she had to finish one first

I'll pop back in a bit...

Hugs all,
Mary

Judy, can you imagine your cousin coming a week early, yikes..well, you could have had her come and help do the floors for next week..know what you mean about the floors, every morning before I leave for work I wash all the floors (with a mop of course) and they always look as though they need doing..kitty paws in the water, Sailor in and out, should make them boots right? This morning I was that painted linoleum under my dining room table, he sure needed it..Ann wants to make one, needs 4 tables to work on it so as soon as she does hers I'm going to do another, the one that's there can go on back deck or I'll give it away..

OMG Jacob has spending money now after all that work he did in the snowfall..you must be proud of him, not only was he out working but appreciates those who have been giving him jobs..laughing at the blabbermouth...you are quite a girl!

Mary/Judy, haven't heard of the MOM song, sure hope one of you find a link so we can play it..find a wife one while you are at it.

Debbie are you back from the soccer game and are you winners???
How's the leg doing now that you've been our and put weight on it more than you have these past weeks..am sure you prettied yourself up as you did for the UPS man and you were the prettiest lady at the soccer game..

Barb, I'm ok with taking on a project as long as I have someone pushing me on..it is a lot of work but it would be the perfect gift..looking through a lot of the pieces you sent me ahile back and there is a lot that I could use, especially for the loon..tell me, you know the material you can use photocopier to put pictures on, do you think if I had a really nice photo of a loon, correct size, that I could put it on the cotton and it would work for the loon, more realistic???

Lyndonville, NY

Back from soccer, they lost the first time...bad game, four kids missing because of Wrestling tournament and also All County...so I am not allowed to go to any more game! AND, worse, Shane got hurt. First a fall tore up his knee pretty bad, and then towards end of game he pulled something in the back of his leg. He is a tough kid, and he almost had dad carry him to the house. Has it wrapped and icing it.....asked if he wanted to use my crutches.....he says "What? They come up to my knees!"

Yes, husband is over rated...and I am done with him. I was going to the pizza party at his Moms tonight...and right now not even sure I am doing that. I don't want to be in the vehicle with him.

Sorry...venting.

Betty, loved the pics of the quilt and squares. Last night was cleaning out looking for something in closet...and found my beads. Might sit and make some earrings and such. I am going nuts!

I have never had a broken bone before, so I don't know if this is normal or not. But have a burning spot on my foot...near the break. I expected it to get better as the foot heals...but its not happening. I have the "big ski boot" on right now, and it feels better in that....but it throws my other hip off even with a higher shoe. I am falling apart! lol

Baton Rouge, LA

Here Betty and All...

Maybe this link will work. THANK YOU JUDY !!!

The Mom Song

Baton Rouge, LA

OH GEE DEB! I guess we cross posted...

Like my Dad used to say... if he didn't have bad luck he'd have no luck at all...sounds like where you are at lately....

I hope you get a chance to relax this weekend and get a break. My DH hasn't called all day... he knows I'm mad. Don't need to talk to him anyway.

We should win the lottery (or when Betty wins) build a resort on an island somewhere and call it "Divorced for a Week". Somewhere ladies can go to get away... LOL... Boy we'd stay booked wouldn't we !

Lyndonville, NY

Can we go for at LEAST Two weeks Mary? I think I am going to come up with a new marriage contract where you get to renew it....only if you want to on your anniversary date...after the first five years.

Baton Rouge, LA

Great idea Deb.... Marriage = too much like ownership. Maybe start up a "Lease a Husband" business.... Then you turn it in when it gets worn down and not as useful... :)

Victoria Harbour, ON

You guys are too cute...Mary, on my way to check 2 tickets I've yet checked and buy some for tonight...then ROADTRIP before we buy the island, hey wait, I'm in the land of thousand islands, got to be one locally we can buy, I'll make sure it has cabins and main resort..just not cooking..ok we'll hire a cook!

OMG I laughed so hard at the u-tube clip of MOMS..doesn't she have us right down pat???? going to pass that one around..

Debbie, we'd best bubble wrap each of you when you go out..with your luck and that of your family I'd be staying inside sitting on a chesterfield watching t.v. and nothing more energetic than that!

Glenview, IL

Hahha, you beat me to it Mary!! Yep that's the one. We just watched it and all the kids just roared with laughter.

Oh man what bummer Shane got hurt at the game and they didn't win...
Well, at least you got out of the house.

Must be a thing with getting mad at DH's.
Yep, sure would go on a 2 week getaway...

Oh and Mary, I'd love to borrow your book when Thunder is finished...Thats not to say hurry, but you can add me to the list!
I asked my kids if they had it and they looked at me like I was some sort of nutcase! LOL. But I did find a book that I read in 2 days called
Growing Wings, a lovely story.

LOL, Betty, put off that floor and started rummaging through fabric, ok chose what i wanted to play with, watched video again now to stop shaking and make that first cut. lol.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Go for it Judy..stack and whack is a fun way to sew..wish you were closer we could use the die I got with accuquilt and cut them all out and we could sew together..geeeze, just got to win that lottery!

When all the kidding is done (well maybe not) give him a hug and tell him you love him, that ought to throw him for a loop but believe me if he weren't there you truly would remember all the good things vs. the madening things and wish he was by your side!!!! honest!

Even socks/underware on the floor would bring a smile..

Lexington Park, MD

Oh my gosh to funny the u-tube clip of MOMS.
Love the island get away idea.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Debbie new car should come in sometime between March 1st and April 15th. Now that my car's fixed not sure if I need one. LOL Oops!!

Betty Danie overstepped her boundaries in a very large way. Shoot, I'd be eating up the free dinners! LOL LOL LOL Love the quilt blocks by the way, gorgeous!

Debbie your broken bone sounds typical to the 5 I've had. Broken bones ache at first, then they start itching, which causes them to burn, then they ache for awhile, then itch, then burn, then itch, then itch, then itch, then ache, then burn. This will take the full 6 weeks to stop all of this nonsense.

JUDY!!!!!

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

So many things to comment on....always get here and forget.

Nightengale is so sweet! I'd be cuddling with that little one all the time!

Betty, loved all the pictures of the gardens that made me think of Spring!

I LOVE that snowman/star quilt....wish I quilted....

Oh Betty, so hoping that you'll stop again! Maybe the garden will be more welcoming then!

My brother is up from Florida for a visit with Mom and Dad...mostly Mom. I made lunch (lasagna) and took it over with the trimmings. Then we had a good time going through some old papers and pictures. Bill was a little (okay...a lot) bored, but we only stayed for 3 hours!!!!

Started out sleeting today but turned to snow, so that was okay. The roads were fine. Folks were supposed to come here for lunch, but I didn't want my Mother trying to walk on the slippery driveway, so we just hauled it all over there. Better for us to fall if someone is going to, and neither of us did, so that's a GOOD thing!

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Betty, rocks and quilt all gorgeous!!
Mary, gonna start the book tonight :)
Debbie, hope you and Shane both get better fast~!!!
Judy, when you do the stack and whack show us pictures!!! some thing I also want to try...
Crissy, I remember ache and burn...but not itch of broken bones....

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

oh yea!!! those Garden photo's!!! I want to work there!!!!what a great job that would be!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Joyce, funny how photo's don't impress the men...nothing I love better than taking out the boxes (not in albums) and going thru them. Bet your mom was thrilled to see him! Just like packing up a lunch right? lol - certainly not a day for outdoor picnic.

Wouldn't not drop in for coffee Joyce unless of course I'd be in your area late.I'd love to show the girls your yard..just love the pond and the gardens...so inviting.

Thunder, are you still on the day shift? Any news from your son?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thunder, my exact sentiments..was watching the girls working, putting out these lovelies and thought how I'd be in my glory working at a place like that..maybe we should apply, we'd get laid off in the winter but that's o.k. - might call us in to make a few $$$ at Christmas...am sure I'd be bringing home far more than I'd make!

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

I am working some days some nights...today it was 7am tomorrow 2pm....crazy , up and down...but it is very very nice to be having some dinners with the family again...spoke to son on the computer yesterday...he is good...enjoying the job he is doing, and likes the "boss" he is working for/ with...that is always helpful..when you like who you are working for.

It would probably be a very bad thing for me to work in a fabric store!!!! I would want it all!! but I have actually applied a few times at Joannes...I think I put too much money for what I wanted??? they mostly only hire part time, and that would not work for me...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Glad your son is doing ok, must take some of the worry off of you. Guess you are pleased that Walmart no longer has a fabric/craft dept...lol as you get to bring home what you earn.

Heard a sad thing today, young man from Barrie was killed while on holidays in the Dominican. When neighbors were describing him my heart stopped, they were describing my Kyle..both have Asperger Syndrome..always helping others, cares on the world on their shoulders..loving children..here he went to help a woman who was being harassed, as it happens a woman from Guelph maybe 100 miles from Barrie and was killed...so very sad!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Think I'm going to call it a night..did a load of jewelery for Pat, also did a few more pendants that hold you glasses, should almost have enough made now to send you all one, those who don't have glasses I'll send a normal pendant but now I have to look for my list to see who wanted what color???

Drats, should take a photo and say first dibs..pick the one you want...lol

Wouldn't you know, went where I put away all the Christmas blocks and year swap blocks and there was a package, guess what was in it, yes, maroon and red..

I've got all my pieces cut and backed, tomorrow I'll see if I can't finsh at least 1..

Barb not sure if it was you who sent me that beautiful night and silver star material, I could have cried..need 9 1/2 inches by 42 1/2 inches and the piece is

7 1/2 inches by 42 1/2...drats and more drats

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Can you get a picture of that fabric Betty? Maybe it's one that I have more of......

Baton Rouge, LA

Hello To All !

Betty ... sounds like "Murphy's Law"... maybe Barb has some more? So sad about the young man.....

Thunder - I am SO excited ! Judy - it's Thunder's book now...but I'm hoping she likes it enough to send on to you. The first time I had to read it twice...then read again recently. I wrote my name in the back... wouldn't it be cool if it gets sent on ?

Judy - I looked up Growing Wings in Amazon... is yours the one by Laurel Winter? There are a few....

Hello Joyce & Crissy ! Laura - we'll have Betty buy an island up there in Canada... All Betty's blog members will have FREE access... LOL..... Deb, Judy & I would be up there right now. But we need a section with dogs allowed because I couldn't leave Belle here...

Belle is the only reason I stayed at the house today... really.... (and go figure... DH brought her here and now I'm dog sitting...BUT... I DO love her)

Betty - I know .... I know... you are RIGHT... we will one day perhaps miss the dirty socks, and a companion. Like having the teens around... it's hard to imagine the day...but it may come......

I'll check back for my "night shifters".... Susan? Dianne? Etc?

Hugs,
Mary

Verona, ON

I'm here Mary, I'm here. Lights have been flickering on and off with the heavy snow we are getting so will not be online long.
Island is an excellent idea Betty! Think all of us could use a get away place some days.
Definitely have to go.... gotta get the generator set up.*SIGH* I wasn't expecting this weather today!
Stay safe everyone. Make sure you all do something nice for yourself tomorrow.
Dianne

Lexington Park, MD

Thunder so glad you got to speak to your son and all is good.
Dianne hoping you do not lose power.
Betty sounds like you are busy.
Goodmorning to all coffee is on.
Shirley and Tubby you both ok?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks for the coffee, leftover donuts in the box..

Barb I certainly would appreciate if you did have some, even if it was a strip that I could attach, going to freehand quilt it so most likely would'nt be visable.

Dianne you got snow? Wonder which way it's heading? Nothing worse than not having power. You do without power often enough and its a generator for sure. Darlene and Mike just had one installed that the minute power goes off the generator comes on!

Mary do you not have an outdoor run for Belle? Might be a good idea to make an area that she can be put in so you can go for outings on your own, would do you the world of good.

Could have slept in but at 5:20 Sailor decided it was time to go out.

Going to attempt making #1 strip panel and see how it goes...making 3 but I'll keep the best for me..if Barb does have the same material then that one will surely be mine! Not sure where else I would have gotten it..

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thunder maybe the itch is caused from the cast, I always had casts. I used to get a metal hanger and bend it so I could stick the smooth end down my cast and scratch. It was worse than a bunch of chigger bites and it was inside the skin so scratching the skin didn't quite work, it helped but the itch went bone deep.

Betty that's so sad! That does sound like you have Murphy following you around and throwing his laws at you.

I miss the 5am wakings for food, I miss the stench of the litter box when I would forget to clean it, I miss the fur flying around everywhere. Losing a pet sucks.

Dave's been giving me a lot of grief lately too. I don't know what his problem is, he's very technical about saving money and not spending, gets on me all the time about wasting money then he comes up with this: He called me last Thursday at work all excited and asking me how much money we have in savings. He wanted to put a $50,000 mortgage on our paid off house to buy an old foreclosed home to spend all of our savings fixing it up so he can resell it for $60,000 more than we bought it for... he doesn't have a job so that's a no go, I kept telling him this fact and the fact that I don't make enough money to pay the bills as it is right now, it's stupid to add another expense. He told me that I'm being negative and I have a closed mind because he guarantees that he will have a job before his unemployment runs out, he guarantees me he'll be able to sell it and double our money even though houses are not selling, and he guarantees that if it doesn't sell we'll be able to get good renters in it that will pay rent and we won't have any problems with. Since I know he can't guarantee any of that I kept fighting, and finally won yesterday. WHEW! Then last night he found this 4-wheeler on Craigslist for $1200.00. He was all excited again and said he wants to buy it, I asked him what brand it is, how old it is, if it's a 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive, what's wrong with it, you know the normal questions, he came back talking a mile a minute and yelling that none of that matters. He argued with me for about 10 minutes then called the guy back. It's old, it's a 1987 Honda 4Trax, 2 wheel drive. Dave checked blue book prices and one in excellent condition books for $1000, one in good condition books for $600, I know this guy is not the first owner of this thing so there's no way it's in excellent condition, so he's way overpriced. Dave tells the guy this and he comes down to $800. I said what the hey, spending $800 on something you don't even know if it runs is better than spending $80,000 on something that might sit and cause my own foreclosure on my own house, so whatever, it will keep him busy, he's obviously wanting a project, so if we have to put parts into it, it will still be cheaper than fixing an old house.

He's doing something else too, he's applying for jobs that are too far away. He's always kept it a 45 min drive or less, but now he's looking into an hour and 15 minute drive and he would have never done that before. He has horrible eyesight and I don't want him that far from home for his own safety. Maybe he won't get the jobs or they won't pay what we need them to. I don't know what's wrong with him but lately he's extremely irrational and always yelling an talking down to me. I won't put up with it much longer. We're supposed to have a nice day today then freezing rain this evening. I'm going to talk to him and see if he'll go get the 4-wheeler today instead of tomorrow, give him something to do.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy he's probably feeling badly that he's not yet found employment and is trying to open more possibilities..remember Crissy at my age I worked for years in Toronto, 1 1/2 hrs from home and travelled in winter, blizzards and all so it's not terribly far when you think of it!

What a terrible idea he had re house and mortgaging yours that is totally paid for, yikes, as you say in this economy he couldn't possibly guarantee making it work even if he couldn't sell and put it on the market for rent..that in itself could create more problems than you'd both want to deal with.

Oh/oh, had to smile, now don't get me wrong this is just ME, when I wanted something that I knew I shouldn't couldn't get, I'd ask for something that was so unreasonable and knew Roger would go on and on and on, I'd sulk (yes me) and then ask for the thing I most wanted knowing he'd agree!!!! me bad right!

Hope the freezing rain passes you on by..

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

OH Betty - when you heard the description of the young many who was killed it must have made your heart skip a beat............... or several!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 3b)

LOL Betty - had to laugh about "bad you", and your sulking!!! lol
Crissy - it could be that he's doing exactly what Betty says - feeling bad about being unemployed and he's trying to "perk" himself up with a Project, as unreasonable as it is and sounds!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

The problem is his eyesight is so bad and coming from CA he's not used to driving in it. He literally can't see anything at night, especially if there is any sort of precipitation on the ground, and he likes to work Graveyard.

LOL LOL LOL Betty, not YOOOUUUU!!! LOL That's hilarious. I can have fun with the 4-wheeler myself, I'm a little worried that he has agreed to buy it sight unseen but what the hey, whatever. He's extremely bored, I know that, my dad's girlfriend was telling me to fight it because it's not a 4 wheel drive, I told her I wasn't going to fight it, the man needs something fun to do!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning Susan, and what are you up to today???? Hope it's something exciting! Church then what...

I took spaghettie sauce out of the refrigerator, makes for an easy supper, must take a quick ride to the grocery store which is all of 5 minutes but not sure I'm even up to that! I'll wait an hour or so, Ann usually drops in on her way back from Church for a visit..she and Mike were in Toronto for several days so will be much to gab about.

Laura, just went and did all the floors upstairs again, am sure it will take 3 or 4 times for them to shine like new..

Back to my project..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Worse that can happen Crissy if you don't use it is he can do repairs and re-sell...yep, bit of a spoilt brat I was..Lord helped me change my ways though..lol

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty are you able to take a picture of that material? I have several blues and need a hint!!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb, I'm ok now with the red/maroon, was able to do the santa's and unless you are right up at it you'd never know there was stars in his santa suit...doesn't matter, looks ok..

Here's the blue she used...but the almost black/blue with silver stars is spectacular, going to find a way of making it work..

Have all my pieces places, looked for the old iron as not to have the iron on glue ruin my iron and in my purging off it went into the dump..that's what you get for purging...couple other places I might look BUT when my Aunt Muriel worked at fabulous formals she gave me a big box of beads and sequins so in the snowflakes I have the perfect solution embellishment! oh happy days

Good morning!

Just a quick note to say hello to all and hope everyone has a great day. Tubby taking a nap right now, I just took fresh cinnamon rolls out of oven and will frost in a little bit. GD is up finally and so will do dishes here shortly. The girls from Omaha were out yesterday. It was a good day. Was glad to see them go. I get tired easily and Tubby tries not to quit till they are gone. His legs and feet are so swollen and they are uncomfortable for him. Will see what Dr. says tomorrow and will tell him I stopped the drug. They are going to do IV antibiotics every day after dialysis at the hospital so Medicare will pay. If it gets too much I will see about doing it at home.
GD has some pictures of the scenery around here, so we are going to reprint them in B&W for her. I hope they turn out okay. She will either do a coulage of them or frame individually and make it her headboard of her bed.
I will have to go back and catch up on everything later. It's hard to do with people here, and somedays just aren't good for me lately. I seem to want to cry at the drop of a hat.
Well, chat later of at least check in and see what's going on.
God Bless you all.
Shirley

Victoria Harbour, ON

Know that we are here Shirley anytime you need a cry...company when your ill is ok but tiring and I can just see Tubby fighting not to have an afternoon rest. Are you feeling any better?

How much longer will your grandaughter be with you? Could you encourage her to stay longer...she sounds lovely and a crafter at that..

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

Crissy, too funny...my DH bought a 4 wheeler, fixer upper not to long ago...just for something to do.....we have a big yard, but not big enough for a dirt bike track!!
DH and son did get it fixed up and running, bought a little wagon type thing, and they pull it around the yard to pick up brush/fallen limbs/moss/citrus....so it did end up being a good thing......hope your works out too!!!

Shirley, what Betty said...we are here....
I am right there with you on the "cry at the drop of a hat" !! seems anything and every thing gets to me lately !!!

Betty show us your rows....looks like a fun quilt to do if nothing else...put a piece of paper over your appliqué pieces, then press...I have done that and it has always worked for me...no stuff on the iron, and if there is stuff that gets on the paper...as long as you pick paper up as soon as you are done pressing (still hot fabrics) I have never had paper stick to project....if you get sticky stuff on paper..then you just throw away and use new piece.

Is blue fabric for strip across top??? could you make the next row (candy canes in red, in photo of quilt) larger to make up the few inches??? how tall is Santa? will he fit in 7 1/2 inches piece of blue background?? maybe add some white to the bottom for snow on the ground???

if you are going to be doing a lot of appliqué...there is a plastic sheet thing?? you can buy to use that won't stick ...seen it in a catalog somewhere??? want me to try to find it???

Judy, I will send you the book when I am done. I read a little last night, did not want to put it down, but I had to. I was so very tired....
