Hi Everyone =
Betty - so sorry to hear about DM's dog. Is she old and what will they do for her? It's hard to loose one, I'm sure she has been with your Mom a long time. Sometimes they are a bother, but I don't know what I'd do without any of mine (5). We wish her the best.
I'd love for it to be in the 70's, but we didn't decide to live down south. I did get my chores done outside when I got home from work. I sent my DM on her way while it was nice and got busy. We can just stay in the house and look out tomorrow while it's windy, cold and chance of snow. I think the white stuff will stay north, I'll cross everything I can.
Tubby tucked in for the night. I'll go soon. The orange rolls I made are by Rhodes in the freezer section. They make cinnamon also. They are delicious and frosting comes with them. I want to make some sticky rolls with pecans, but I'll make them from scratch. I want to make a pan of cream cheese brownies for DM for Christmas. I'll only put so many in a package, so she take out what she wants from the freezer. She has a heck of sweet tooth. I use to make all kinds of baked goods for elderly people that I knew, most of them are gone now and so many can't have sweets, makes it hard. Love to cook, bake & share.
I haven't made it out for a me day yet, but it's on my list of things to do. HA!
Betty, remember my DM sewing right through her forefinger. Hurt like the devil and had to pull one piece out from the top and one from bottom of finger. Heck when one gets distracted. Maybe you could get gloves of mess like they make for the fishermen so they don't filet their hand when cleaning fish. Did you ever look up Red Lake, ON.? That's pretty country there, would go pick blueberries, high bush cranberries and one other cherry (can't remember name). Memories are sure entertaining!
LK, it's hard to exchange rolls of being the parent now and them being the child. Just remember that if we are lucky we'll get to that age and who knows what we'll be like. Someday you will look back on those moments and giggle to yourself.
Judy, the cake sounds great, take a pic. and post. To be 21 again and know what we know now!
Hope Jacob's back gets better.
Good Night and sleep tight, God Bless you all!
Tubby & Shirley
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? Chat with friends..
Thank you Mary! He has the "shape" of my eyes, but the color is his own. Not DH's which is more brown with tiny green flecks. Shanes is kind of a golden green with brown flecks.
Yes, this year is such an emotional rollercoaster. And yesterday, he applied to a college almost 3 hours away. He really wants this...but I am just so upset. Won't let on to him for anything...he deserves this opportunity.
Shirley, my DM used to make the orange rolls...but like Mary mentioned, from Pillsbury. Christmas morning we do the cinnamon rolls while kids are opening gifts. I hope you have a good nights rest. Glad our Tubby is tucked in, and may you both have sweet dreams.
Judy I hope you have a wonderful time tomorrow celebrating your daughters 21st birthday! Tomorrow is my Carries 25th birthday....that one doesn't seem possible either. She has had such a hard year and I just pray the year ahead is much easier. Waiting for some test results to come back, and dang but it is stressful.
Ok, I am going to turn in...Shane just got home from work, so I can shut my eyes now for a bit.
Sweet dreams,
Debbie
Hello All -
Here is the "Cajun" joke that DH had to endure from our Florida relative visit a while back... LOL
A Cajun Shrimper wants a job cleaning up the oil spill, but the BP Foreman won't hire him until he passes a little math test.
Here is your first question, the foreman said. 'Without using numbers, represent the number 9.'
'Without numbers?' The Cajun says, 'Dat is easy.' And proceeds to draw three trees.
'What's this?' the boss asks
'Ave you got no brain? Tree and tree and tree make nine,' says the Cajun.
'Fair enough,' says the boss. 'Here's your second question. Use the same rules, but this time the number is 99.'
The Cajun stares into space for a while, then picks up the picture that he has just drawn and makes a smudge on each tree. 'Ere you go.'
The boss scratches his head and says, 'How on earth do you get that to represent 99?'
'Each of DA trees is dirty now. So, it's dirty tree, and dirty tree, and dirty tree. Dat is 99.'
The boss is getting worried that he's going to actually have to hire this Cajun, so he says, 'All right, last question. Same rules again, but represent the number 100.'
The Cajun stares into space some more, then he picks up the picture again and makes a little mark at the base of each tree and says, 'Ere you go. One hundred.'
The boss looks at the attempt. 'You must be nuts if you think that represents a hundred!'
The Cajun leans forward and points to the marks at the base of each tree and says, 'A little dog come along and poop by each tree.. So now you got dirty tree and a turd, dirty tree and a turd, and dirty tree and a turd, which make one hundred.'
The Cajun is now the new supervisor
Mary, just proves that Cajuns are very smart.... Hope Y'all are doing well and staying warm...I have two sweatshirts on, and a fleece blanket on my lap...guess it is time to break out one of the big quilts, in need of more hand stitching!!!!
Debbie very handsome man you have there. It is hard to lat them spread their wings and find there way in life but at least he wants to keep going to school.
I sat through my DD graduation and cryed I could not help it.Bring tissues and camera.
Good morning to all I have coffee and applesauce bread with cranberries if anyone would like.
Morning all, cold outside but as yet no snow! Left work early (some young ones thought I should) lol and seeing as I had brought the last rag quilt (for now) with me I stopped into laundromat and got it washed, taking no more chances with my washer. Just as I pulled in a saw the plowman so asked if he had a moment to come to my house to I could give him $$$? Off we went while quilt was washing and he plowed as I got the $$ from the house, didn't think we had that much snow, but snowbanks are getting high. Andrew I would think is about 38, 3 young ones and just went for another 3 month check up and no signs of cancer. As we stood and talked Ann dropped in..wanted to go to lay down but knew I needed a few groceries so off I went, got home and Cathy was here, she did all the pathways and decks, I had purchased one of those roasted chickens, made supper for Cathy/Rose and I, put my head down and didn't wake up till morning, yikes, not very nice to my company am I?
Friends Rita/Gerry are coming over this morning for a visit so I'm busy washing floors, dusting and making everything pretty, will take a few minutes to oil the knitting machine so when they leave I'll have time to play and do the dickies for the kids.
Debbie, omg I just love the black and white photo, how grown up he looks, can understand your feelings about letting your baby go, did the same when Jeff left for university, felt he was much too young and now it won't be many more years before the grandchildren will be heading there.
Mary, congratulations, doesn't matter if you'll have some months at work in sales not as good as others, you are UP there now, what a feeling..sorry you are still having some ups/downs with the kids, nerve racking, been there..step-moms I think should get badges of courage and to me heroes..not easy trying to re-establish a new kind of family..hugs..Loved the joke, sounds like what we would call a 'newfie' joke...poor people from Newfoundland, jokes are in abundance making fun of them!
Thunder, is it that cold in Florida? Guess it's not often you get to snuggle up under blankets and shiver? lol
I was talking to Cathy last night and was saying it would have been the perfect time to take a trip south seeing as my Christmas is being held on Christmas eve day and Christmas morning, could have skipped town about noon..hmmmm have to think that one out!
Shirley, glad you got all the winterizing done, now you'll not worry. I so envy you guys who know how to bake all those goodies, me, I'm an A+ pie maker but never got to making sweet treats, maybe that's not a bad thing, I imagine I'd eat all I'd bake so that wouldn't be good.. Does Tubby go to bed early? that would give you time to sit and rest if he did, hard trying to work part-time, look after him and taking on all the extra work and still finding time to put your feet up? How's the island coming along, get the other coat on? not quite sure what it is you are using so anxious to see!
Mom's dog is about 8 and I know lots treat dogs like humans but she and Jim go 10 steps beyond that. Did not call her last night because I fell asleep but will do so this morning! When I asked her what could be done said she wasn't sure, that maybe they could take some of the pad out but won't know until MOnday when she speaks with the vet. Am sure Rocky won't be out of her arms until then.
Next time I'm grocery shopping will go look for the orange rolls, often see cinnamom rolls but don't ever remember seeing orange rolls. Now wouldn't one go well with my coffee
See how fast Laura that I have my hand out, applesauce cake with cranberries, mouth is just a watering.
Guess you are up working on projects?
Applesauce cake with cranberries sure does sound good!!!! I'm hiding in the office on the computer so I don't wake Sean. He went Christmas shopping with Papa last night and stayed over. So we wrap this morning.......
Sending a quick hello to all - I guess I wasn't as quiet as I thought - he is awake!! Be back later......
snowman projects to get done today. DH found a strand of small lights for project
That bread is so easy to make and you can put anything in it. I think I would like to try cherrys next.
Beautiful jewelry Betty. And Laura, I think cherries would be heavenly too.....
No Betty, no peeking. We had a discussion while we were doing our projects last year about the "Joy of Giving" at Christmas and how peeking spoils things for the person doing the giving. He learned about watching someone else open a gift from him and seeing the happiness he gave to them. I would no more spoil that than the man in the moon.... it's a good lesson for the kids to learn and I'm glad he remembers our talk.....
Off to get the orange rolls out of the oven. Enjoy your day everyone.... Be back later.....
One in black and white
I love this one! Black & white photos are always my favorite!
Morning Maggie, see you are up but sure hope you are resting, maybe make a chart of what needs to be done and section of parts of it and do them here and there and give some duties to all. Do hope you are not in major pain and if you are then take the meds!!!
It truly is something to pass down to the young..got to tell you, don't know how many gifts I've bought and given before Christmas because I just can't wait then have to go purchase more..lol. Enjoy your day with Sean..
Told Jeff how easy the jewelery (at least the type I'm learning on is to do) so if they come early they'll have time to make their mom and grandma a set as well.... my gift??? having them see their end results and know they'll remember these times when I'm gone and they grow up, am sure they'll tell their how much fun their gramdma was..at least I hope so!!!
You girls have me running into town after Rita and Gerry leave just to purchase the orange rolls...
Have fun Laura finishing the project..imagine 2 weeks today and it will all be over for yet another year..
Chores are done for the day, everything looks pretty and clean, Reba's singing 'I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus...come sing with me, lets make memories, what Christmas is all about!!!!
Good morning, Betty. What kind of kiln did you get? I've always thought one would be fun to have...even though I've never used one. I might put that on my wish list....mothers day maybe???
Good Morning!
Well this is how our day started out. The furnace didn't want to run so have the guy out here now. It's 57F in house and too cold for Tubby. I have him all tucked under blankets and the TV just decided to go off the air. It's cold, windy and snowing out. Drats! Hopefully everything will straighten out here in the next little while. I think I will make second pot of coffee to help warm up. If I want to warm up then it is chilly in here. Just hope it's not anything major.
The island looks pretty good if say so myself. I have to get the sander in and sand off the drips that I didn't get off. The epoxy didn't sun even over the sides, so will have to figure out what to do. I have some touch up painting to do and get the knobs for drawers and doors. I got some epoxy on my good floor so will get the heat gun in and try to remove that today. I'll have to talk to myself first to go out in the wind to the shop. The top of the island looks like there is a piece of glass over everything. Will put a placemat in center and some Christmas decoration on that later. I better clean the kitchen first. I'll stay in and clean all weekend.
Yes, it's good to know the outside chores done. What is ever left can wait till spring. Wish it was here next week. Ha! Ha!
Debbie - you have a very handsome fella there! It's fun to see pics of people even if you haven't meant them. I always enjoyed seeing peoples Senior pics.
Mary - love the cajun story. I like to listen with accents speak. The oldest GD in Wis. has quite an accent. None of the rest of them do. Ididn't think it got that cold in FL. One never knows.
Betty - what good pics of everyone having a good time making something for someone and memories for themselves. I remember making some jewelry like that, but you placed it on cookie sheets in the oven. What the boys made is darling. I love the colors they chose.
TV is back on for Tubby's westerns and the furnace is running, but the guy will probably be back next week to replace another part after he talks to the company about what is going on.
The cake sounds good and coffee too. I'd probably put a dab of butter on a slice. I can always think of ways of adding a few more calories.
Better get busy and get something accomplished around here today. I'll warm up that much faster by getting something done. I haven't decided about a Christmas tree since the space is limited and I'm not sure if any of the kids will be home. There won't be much in the way of gifts so we'll see. You all stay warm and have a wonderful weekend. Prayers and hugs to all and God Bless.
Tubby & Shirley
Yes it is THAT cold!!! we have had three nights in a row of FREEZE warnings....got buckets and buckets of fruit in my garage!! in hopes that they will not freeze. it is 57 now, that is the highest it has been for days!!!
got to go get ready for work. Y'all have a great day.
Maggie, it's an evenheat, just small jewelery kiln, am sure I'll have mega fun with it..
Drats, Bernice from across the street came over for a visit, back steps although clear of snow were icy, she's not very stable on her legs so while she was putting her coat on I went out to clear ice! Of course I cannot do anything low, got to be rushing, fell down the stairs backside hitting every step, hit my heat, yikes, not going to be able to move by nightfall I'm sure, off to take a hot bath and see if that might help then onto the couch..
Just started the snowmobile dickies on the knitting machine but they will have to wait! drats and more drats..my fault!!
Want to gab with both you and Shirley BUT got to go bathe..am lucky though, could have easily broken a hip..be back after..
Dear Lord, Please look after our Betty and save her from herself once again. She really does mean well and we need her here to give us her encouragment. We do believe in miracles!!!!! Thank you, Amen
OMG Betty, you be careful, we don't want to hear that you are laid up also. Sometimes it's good to
have that padding on the backside. You need to get those straps that have srew like things on them that you slip on to your shoes so they dig in to the ice. Please be careful and hope there aren't too many aches and pains later. Say you have quite the selection of toys to play with. The machine looks interesting. I'd like to see it work.
Okay, I haven't got one thing done yet. I.m procrastinating. I think it is more like a day to snuggle up with a blanket and watch TV or take nap. One shouldn't sleep their life away, oh well, no ones gonna come in and do it for me so will wait.
Couch is calling, be back later.
Hope you are ok Betty. Let us know. HUGS BEV
Betty, please be cafreful. Hope your not too sore!
Just worked myself downstairs to feed the furries and shut the lights off, got some painkillers so that will help, not bad if I don't move or lay on my right side...such a stupid thing to do..
Going to call it a night..maybe tomorrow I'll be up early and ready to step dance...lol..thanks for your concern!
Betty, Betty, Betty!!!!! you NEED to be more careful!!! Always hurts more later!! hope you are not feelin too very bad (((((((((((((((((((hugs for Betty))))))))))))))))))))))))))) gentle ones..
Maggie, and Shirley so very glad to see you both posting...Shirley, we all need to just snuggle on the sofa sometimes!!!
((((HUGS)))) gentle ones though. You take care of yourself now - you need to be in tip top shape to enjoy your Christmas you have worked so hard to get ready for everyone.
Goodmorning to all the coffee is on and Applesauce bread with cranberries is warm.
Betty take it easy please.
Raining here not going to complain as the mid-west is getting dumped on badly. (GLAD IT IS NOT HERE)
(((Betty))) Surely hoping you feel better this morning. Not a good time of year to be bummed up!
Went to the Water Garden Society Christmas Party last night. It was a carry-in with lots of good food. I took a pecan pie. I was able to bring one tiny piece home. Anyway we took a $10 gift and played the greed game. I took this awesome chip dip cooler I found with pictures of mushrooms on two sides and pears on two sides...I just loved that thing! Well, in the greed game when my name was called I got a cute stuffed Santa. Then when my name was called the second time, I stole this adorable cement gnome....well, should have known that didn't last long! I lost it and got a Christmas table runner. It was okay...didn't really need one though....didn't matter......that got stolen too, and guess what I ended up with?????? The chip dip cooler! I wanted one of them anyway, so I was happy....
Supposed to snow today, but it hasn't started yet. I have GOT to get in the kitchen and start making some cookies!
Morning all, this ole gal must be stronger than she look, aches for sure but no broken bones so as long as I move slowly today and rest here and there I'll be back to rushing around like a stupid fool..
Laughing at your greed game Joyce, we often play it at baby/wedding showers, always fun but rarely do I get the item I want. Must tell you a little story, at the Township Christmas luncheon all the girls would watch what bag I brought in for the greed, always knew it would be hand made and to them a 'treasure' so they'd fight over my bag, finally one of the public works guy would bring it in for me so noboby would know which was mine..lol With your lovely gardens too bad you didn't get to keep the cement knome.
You all are enjoying baking, drats, wish I was a baker, don't know why I'm not, grandfather owned a bakery and was good at it, none of his baking talent drifted down to me..boo hoo but I'll taste yours with my morning coffee and am sure I'll save on a calorie or two!
Shirley, glad you got to enjoy some down time and that furnace and t.v. both got repaired..drats, don't you hate it when it happens right at Christmas.
I was sleeping early last evening and Kyle called, wanted to know if I'd like company??? As Greg was snowmobiling all day, Melanie off with Noah for hockey tournament Kyle had stayed home to do a slide and music presentation that could be shown at his great grandmother's 90th birthday today, guess he finished it and was feeling he needed to be with people so NOT that I wanted to go get him which is about 3 miles, he'd have walked I know, but I hobbled to the car/picked him up/fell back asleep and I woke up to he and Rose saying goodnight at 2:20a.m. They get gabbing about computers/school and such and forget to look at the clock. Not sure what time Greg will pick him up this morning but hope it's NOT too early!!
Coffee taste good, going to sit at the knitting machine and see if I can't finish at least one of the neck warmers and if lucky perhaps the 2nd...
Gab with you all on my next break ...don't forget, want to see and taste those goodies of yours!
Betty sounds like Kyle did not want to be alone all night you are a very good Grandma to get up injured and go get him.
Would like to see knitting gadget in action. That is new to me never saw before.
No calories in the bread I baked it all out so have 2 slices.
Is everyone okay??? I don't think I've ever seen this forum so quiet.....
Wow!
It really is quiet. I expected to get on and find a bunch of chat and not. I'm just sitting here mending an old comforter that I use to cover the sofa with for the dogs. I don't have the heart to make them stay down. They get to sleep with me too. They are spoiled.
I'm doing a bit of laundry too, I want clean sweats for Tubby tomorrow. I talked him into wearing some long johns, he said no at first, but I told him how cold it was to be and so he agreed. He is so cold blooded anyway.
The furnace is running good today. It only acts up when the wind is very strong and out of the NNW. I hope he can figure it out. I just don't like the thought of the bill we'll get. Oh well.
Dogs are out howling at something. One will wait till I let her out. She doesn't like the dog door when it gets hard in the cold weather. Picky little thing. She's the oldest, so guess okay.
Well, will close for the night and check in with you all tomorrow after we get home. Sweet dreams and hugs and prayers for all.
T&S
Our little town needs some prayer...
Our neighbors house, across the street and 3 down, is on fire.
Mr. Housel and his little doxie Trinka, were not able to get out. He was quite elderly, possibly close to if not over 90.
Right now, we have four fire companies and about 50 firemen, state police, sherriffs and a hole slew of people who should be around gawking.
I am just a mess. I just loved talking to him, and his little dog Trinca helped me get over missing Fritz...she was such a sweetheart.
Debbie
Awww Debbie! So sad! I'm sorry, sweetie. Things like that always seem to happen this time of the year. I hate it. I'm here if you want to talk. I'll be up all night worrying about my sister with her messed up flights so call if you'd like. xoxox
Debbie, hugs from me too......I'm sure you're really sad......
Hello All;
Debbie - (HUGS) to you... any chance they got them out ?
Betty - please do be careful! So sweet that Kyle is visiting..;.. I know you will both miss Rose... may need to stay in touch with her as a pen pal.... or invite her here on your blog...
Joyce... glad you got the gift you wanted ! Those are so much fun ! :)
We had a nice night... all 3 teens "off" from work, etc... and we finally decorated the tree... I had made a chili.... then we started watching "UP" which is a movie I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE (as re: the FIRST post here LOL) I highly recommend this movie if you haven't seen it... and expect tears ..... good ones...
DS left 1/2 way through the movie... had to visit 'friends'... ah... wish I could handcuff them all to the house sometimes..
Shirley - so sorry you had a tough weekend ! You have such a positive outlook .... I love reading your posts !
Hugs to all,
Mary
Morning all, it's a winter wonderland here, me bad, wishing that the wind would come up between hours of 7 - 9 a.m. so I could spend another day healing and during that process doing a few things that need to be done for Christmas gifts...
Debbie, I'm so sorry to hear about your neighbor? Mary asked if perhaps they could have gotten them out? Could he have been visiting? sure hope amiracle has happened and all are safe. Should that not be the case am sending you hugs and prayers as I know you are overwhelmed by this tragedy!
Mary, going to check out the movie on my work movie channels to see if it's something I can watch today. Sure is hard in this day and age to get everyone together for more than 4 hrs...
Are any of you in this storm watch??
