Thanks nettie - I'll let my Mom know! Hopefully I'll have fabulous pics of it to post next year! If it gets to looking better, I'll have to see if I can root some cuttings of it. The blackspot is only in a couple of areas. She never sprays it so hopefully once it's pruned it will be better;o)

We're bracing for another 90 degree heat wave this week, a fine end to a very warm summer. Garden is growing beautifully though, I have a virtual wall of tomatoes out there. Already made two big batches of spag. sauce that we keep frozen in cool-whip containers. Lots of fresh garlic, basil, and oregano to go with it. The kitchen will be stunk up with it for weeks. I love all this pasta stuff cooked fresh, but it should last us a while out of the freezer.

Al

Al all that sauce sounds great. Wish I had planted more tomatoe plants this year, but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to tend them so only planted 2. Sigh.
Here is Blossom and her Moma this week. Both doing great!
Hugs everyone and good night.

Well, we had frost last night! Guess I'll probably done with the morning glories now, boohoo!! Sure hope we have an "indian summer" as I just am not wanting or ready for winter yet. But, I can always put out the fall fertilizer now on the lawn, lol!

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Hope you got your tomatoes in Sandi! Sounds colder than here! We're getting hurricane warnings for "Earl" but we're quite a ways inland to matter much. Still the coastal people aren't taking chances and moving back inland. Might hit Saturday or Sunday.

Al

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

Actually, Al, we didn't get the frost warnings yesterday that they usually give us, but I thought it might so I went out last night about 11 and covered everything good to protect them, lol! And they are forecasting weather in the upper 70's for the weekend. So we will see how everything fared! It's still chilly out, so haven't gone out and uncovered things yet.

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Two weeks ago we traveled the last of our summer short trips to Newport, Rhode Island. Got to visit a couple of the many mansions of the former rich and famous there. This is the "Breakers Mansion" off Bellvue Ave on the coastline previously owned by Cornelius Vanderbilt. He was a shipping and transportation tycoon mostly into the NY Central Railroad. His "summer" home in RI was built in the 1890's. Had 70 rooms on 4 floors on 11 oceanfront acres, maintained by 40 house and grounds servants. The interior was just stunning. We took a fabulous 2 hour tour just to get through the place, hard to beleive the lifestyle they had. The children's playhouse was bigger than my cape cod house.

Amazing Al! But I can't believe we don't all have 40 servants! What are we doing wrong, LOL! That summer house is bigger than our state capitol building, from the looks of it! S'pose we could turn their old dog house into a greenhouse? That would be more the size I could use, lol!

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

If you're really into mansions check this out about "Breakers", amazing!

Sorry about your cold weather Sandi - still well over 100 here...

Wow Al - that's a huge house for sure. Can you imagine the heating/cooling bills for a house that size?!?!

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

Awwww, they got nothing on me, I have a summer cottage too! I think most people call it a tent!

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Surprizingly, the place was quite cool and airy (off the coast) when we were there in the heat of summer. We were told that it was used as a summer home only, minimum maintenance during the winter months by a smaller staff. Some sections were heated, though not all, and some people lived there all year round to keep the place maintained.

Al

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

I hear ya, Sandi. My tent get's pretty airy, too.

Al

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

So close and yet so far. Gram's family were Van's too, only instead of Vanderbilts, they are Vanderlindens. LOL!

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Oops, I almost forgot, they had a garden there, too. This dahlia obviously belonged to one of the Vanderbilt daughters, I don't remember which one. She probably didn't have to get her hands dirty to have it planted. LOL

It's beautiful! But no fun if you can't get dirty! They have no idea what they were missing! I wouldn't enjoy it anywhere near as much with someone else doing all the work, ya know?

Booneville, AR

skell im so sorry you got frost. just thinking about it makes me sad its to soon love and hugs nettie

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

Thanks Nettie! I agree, just too soon, and I'm definately not ready for it! I really love fall, and all the leaves changing, but it can wait for October, lol.

Booneville, AR

i don,t think i could live like that. but i could try i guess lots of room for parkers chickens and the goat he is going to have. oh my the neighbors wouldn,t like crirers.im sure. not gona live like that anyway. love nettie. no wore fried potatos or corn bread. id starve to death.

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

LOL! I make fried taters and cornbread all the time! And cornbread muffins too! You'd just have to live on a few acres so you could have all the critters. But don't know if you'd like all the snow and cold and the short growing seasons!

Booneville, AR

i ment i couldn,t live luike a rich person i need to do my own thing. couldn,t have people cooking and cleaning for me i can,t find anything in this house now someone else doing the laundry and pitting clothes away id go crazy. nettie

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

I imagine they ate their share of corn bread, too. They had about 5 cooks in the kitchen to feed everybody! Love pones and muffins myself, but have to limit what I eat because of the sugar and carbs. They sure are tasty out of the oven with butter though.
