Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Puppy is beautiful and you are so sweet.

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Okay - Here's my sunflower picture for the year, over 10' tall with multibranches and blooms by my back porch. The flowers are somewhat small though. I'm saving seeds from this one for everybody's envies next year.

My tomato wall is on the left, yellow zuchini in front. Look carefully and you'll see my fearless garden guardian and stray dog repellant sitting on the top step.

Another view of my rear walkway. Generic marigolds on left, lots of zinnias on the right. We saved an old bathroom storage rack which worked well as a cucumber trellis earlier, next year I'll probably use it for my Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes

This is the new Zahara "Starlight Rose" zinnia so heavily hyped in catalogs this year. The seeds were expensive, but grew well here despite the unusual heat this summer.

One last flower to light up your screen - this "Peppermint Stick" zinnia was a real stopper, though it came from a DG newbie pack somebody dear sent me!

Beautiful Al, and I love your lighthouse! I have a facination with lighthouses. I built one for my flower garden in the front about 8 foot tall and put a light fixture on top but got to re-do some of the top, it is so old it is getting rotten. ;0(
Love the flowers though.

Beautiful Al - esp the Starlight Rose - very nice! Mekos - I had to go back and search for the lighthouse. I missed it the first time I looked at the pics - good eye!

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Yep - We got one! This is an older picture of our garden, but shows it better. It's about 3' tall and has a solor power light on top. Wife Ellen is lighthouse nuts, so we have to visit one nearly every trip or vacation. I have over 100 original lighthouse photos in my comp file!

last one... I would really like to get an idea what this is. As you can see in the 1st pic there are a lot of old dead canes and it needs to be pruned, but I want to make sure it's done right. This was dug from an old homestead in northern Maine many years ago and I'm sure it has been there for decades before that...

Kelly, that is pretty but not what I was thinking. Sorry I don't know.

Edited to say, maybe Arejay will know.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I'm hoping she will as it is some kind of old Maine homestead rose. I can always try the rose forum but wanted to share with my buds first!

Good night. Hope your daylilies get there tomorrow. They went priority.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I hope so too - I'll let you know! I'm very excited to get them!

Good night Nettie. Sleep well.

Beautiful heritage rose Kelly, they are common around here. I saw some similar at Geneseo Country museum a just a couple of weeks ago. Sorry, I don't have a name for them. The aroma is unequal to any I've known.

Thanks for the info peeps! It smells so divine!

I don't necessarily need an ID/name per se - more so I need an idea of when and how to prune it and cut it back so it doesn't look so ratty. Maybe you guys know that?

Robin, this one my Mom dug up probably 40 years ago and it had been where she got it for at least that many years before that;o) I'm not a rose grower so I want to make sure I tell her how to prune/cut it right so she doesn't kill it - lol.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

This looks like my rose in question - what do you think?

http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/200215/

Looks like it to me, But everyone knows I'm blind in one eye and can't see out of the other one so don't go by what I think! ;0)

Booneville, AR

meko that looks like a rugosa rose the leaves for sure they all smell real good. most roses don,t mind if you take the dead wood out at any time thats how i do mine that dead wood serves no purpose just makes the bush look bad.if it has black spot its probly not a rugosa cause they don,t get black spot. might be an older tea rose. does it have a graph ball or do the crains come out of the ground. nettie

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

If I remember correctly nettie they all come out of the ground. I'm hoping she can cut in way back and it will grow in nice. Problem is does she cut it now (fall) or in the spring? She's in Maine Zone 4a - cold cold winters.

Booneville, AR

loka it sure looks like a rugosa anold one but ive never seen them get black spot they hane fuzzy stemsyou only feed them once a year they don.t like to be sprayed for black spot or for bugs or any reaso they take good care of themselfs.i would have to see it in person to be sure. nettie

Nettie, what time of year would you prune it?
