She's about to...53

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Evening all, I have been away, at Bonnies. I am usually in Buffalo at this time of year with DH to visit his mother for her birthday.
We have a birthday everyday from the 7th to the 10th with my family. Joes mom, Greta, is usually spoiled by me every day with breakfast served and lunch cooked, her gardens tended to and a dinner at a Chinese restaurant. This is the first year in almost 8 years I couldn't go. The tickets were three times as expensive as last year. All the family went last year so that was good.
Bonnie came to stay here for a few days and then I went to her place for a day. Her brugs are awsome, as well as the rest of her Garden.

Lovely 4 o clock, neener, I will send you some of mine, I have white, yellow, pink, salmon, two toneds and fragrants.
There was no rain here while the storms were going everywhere else, but after watering today, it just thunder dundered and even hailed a little.

Charles Grimaldi finally bloomed for me the first time in two years, after being ate up all the time by worms. He did have 4 buds, but two fell off in the last wind storm. Poor Guy
While in the wilderness with Bonnie, we found oodles of the Gaura ( Pink) growing wild with oodles of white ageratum, and really nice purple iron weed .

rvnsbrk, that is surely brug land! I would sit on that bench and sniff until I got so dizzy I would pass out! What beautiful trees in the back drop!

Debra, my brugs also got beat to death in the winds from the storms. I finally got rain last night. Sun is out this morning...yeah. I will try to take some pics today of my blooms, some are burnt from the storm tho. Hope Bonnie is doing good. Sounds like it.

Everyone have a great day, out to go dig in the mud.....will have to fill up the holes with potting soil but at least the stuff will be in the ground.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful blooms Debra, glad your back with us!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Oh yeah as far as Sam the dog and the pears, luckily he stays outside all the time now and I worried about the same thing. Problem is I couldn't stop him cause they are constantly falling off the tree, we have 3 acres on the house and I haven't seen any problems....LOL

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

Gm all Not a good morning for me so not going to stay on long will try to get back in later in the day .

have a safe weekend
susie

Oh deejay hope your headaches aren't doing you in again....dag nab it. I sure feel for you.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susie, what's wrong! If you still have those headaches, you need to go see a good Dr.?

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

This is a really big elephant ear, and it had been laying on its side for two days cause of the wind, now all the leaves starting pointing all one direction...LOL

edited to say I am casting a couple of those leaves in concrete this winter. Can't wait!

Debra so gald you ar back. I knew you'd like that 4 o'clock. I'll take any seeds you have for them. I was looking at several places online yesterday for some.

Sam the dog will be very healthy with his pears. The trainers we had for our dog when she was little said that fruit and veggies were great things to feed a dog. Ours loves apples, carrots and pretty much any other fruit. Those are the treats she gets.

Happ you are welcome to come sit under my trees anytime. I only have 18 acres of them. :0)

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

WOW!! Look at that EE!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

OMG I would love to come sit under your trees. Can we build a tree house overlooking your garden? What fun......18 acres of trees....wow, our house was built in a soy bean field, we have been here long enough to have trees now but for a very long time there wasn't any shade!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Here is a hibiscus I have, don't know the name sorry for the blurry picture but it captures the true colors.
A friend gave it to me when she was moving to florida.

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Oh it's fun until the Fall when all the leaves fall off and I am up to my butt in them. :0)

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Oh, didn't think of that...rofl. Bet you could get lost in them......

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Lots of compost/mulch!

Beautiful blooms, and those EE are huge. I want to see more of that old gas pump in the background please?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

That Hibiscus is drop dead gorgeous.. it looks blue? Oh my..
Neener, if you buy any seeds online I will clobber ya.. I am sending out seeds from my Gardens to everyone here..
Joyce, that EE is Gigongus! Ginormous! I can't wait to see your casting. Oh and the pears and Sam? Duke has been eating the dropped pears for almost 16 years now. I think dogs aren't sposed to eat grapes or raisins, and Duke sure loves watermelon.. silly old dog. Susan, I hope your family doesn't get any more bad storms. Lots of damage around the country. OH! The ferns are doing well here.
Deejay, I hope you get to feeling better.. I will say a little prayer for you to feel better as the day grows. What kind of plants were you digging up?
Linda, your brug Garden is so pretty. Sad you lost so many, we will have to fix that.
AuntB says Hi to all of ya, too. ;)

We went to visit Tropicman and his wife, Patty. Here is his sidewalk in front of his house, looking north, in a nice normal neighborhood.. Wichita , Kansas.

I am amazed at his yard still today, I can't believe he gets all that out and then stores it all in those greenhouses that interwine all over, it was an amazing place!

I will take another picture of the gas pump. This one DH bought me for my birthday a long time ago. He hasn't done anything to it but bolt it to the driveway. I love old gas stuff. I know I am a strange woman. I want some dog kennels and told DH I want it built like an old gas station with the cover and all that, with lots of glass. The kennels can run out the back where you won't see them unless you walk around there, but the front and sides will look "normal". LOL

Those hibiscus blooms are about as blue as any plant I have ever seen. About a week ago it was in solid bloom all over, must of been 20 blooms, then the storm came........

Thats true rvnsbrk lots of compost....rofl. DH and I have a thing about compost I like it he doesn't, so we kind of drive each other crazy. Actually most of the time I give up......

I Went to bed with BEN GAY in stead of waking with Arther , I Woke with Headthrob like an all night Drunk .

Its Raining here today so will be spending much of My time today with my seed stash & Get it ready for its
Flight trip this winter :)

So happ you cut off the leaves & Bring in the BULBS ??? Question on them , they stay in the ground in Hotter weather right or warmer climets , why would they not stay in a pot of dirt & be ok in a house ?? where it is warm .
do they have to go dorment ?

thank you Debra , I have been sharing many of my lost tag & Extra clumps of named Daylilies & I Have
about 30 dug up & washed & Another 20-30 more to dig yet . & about 12 boxes to mail out this month :)

For anyone your wants I Have loads of BROKEN COLOR, PINK OR ROSE COLOR , YELLOW?SPECKELED PINK 4 O'CLOCKS ,

Gee time went fast this morning I have to go start some lunch for daddy so you all have a great day nice chatting.

susie

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

save a few of the speckled and broken colours for me would ya? It would be fun to see them crossed with some of my other colours here. Have a Great rest of the day! ( Day lillies, I just don't understand them, they don't bloom for me much here)

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Deejay I leave my favorite ee's in pots, well let me restate that I leave all my ee's in pots and they do fine over the winter. Alot of them don't like to be in sun and will do fine in the house. That one I took the pic of takes up alot of room. It has a huge bulb when I bought it several years ago. I bought it at a lawn and garden show and all the leaves had been cut off and it was laying in a box with probably 50 of them. With peat or sand can't really remember but it isn't round like the ee's you see at wally world. It is more like a ....have to think about that there is a stalk area where you know the leaves come out. Oh before I forget they also like spider mites just like brugs....ughhhhh! That one isn't so bad I guess because the leaves are so thick and heavy maybe? If the mites get too bad while they are still potted I will cut off all the leaves and start over....never done that on that big one but the black one I do that to alot.

Beautiful day been planting like a fool. Came in for food...LOL

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Joyce me too.. I had bacon egg and cheese toasted sandwiches for me and college girl.. and canteluope. mmmmm ..
Getting the already rooted cuttings potted up so I can cut the extra stalks off of the others. (brugs)
I leave my EEs in their pots too.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I love breakfast sandwiches, there is a resturant in Excelsior Springs that puts all the breakfast stuff on toast (potatoes and all), it is a mess to eat but really fun I think. Use to take my nephew there cause he thought it was so fun to have such a mess...rofl. Is your baby home for the weekend?

I hope I never have so many volunteer trees as I have had this year, seems all I am doing is pulling those things. I even tried preen hoping that would stop them. Planting and tagging..LOL I love doing this stuff.

Gonna have to water cause we didn't get that much rain.....dang. Course at least I am not digging in the mud. Oh went to the little store in town and found giant bag of Miracle Grow (huge size) for 10.00, and he gave me a discount so I got it for 9.00....yeah. I will be ready for cuttings and playing this fall, if I get the garden room clean.

Well gotta get back out, came in to see about transplanting strawberries and then figured out I am not really ready for that. Back to planting.

(susie) Hastings, MI(Zone 5a)

thanks for the info & Debra I Have 4 O'Clocks / speckeled & Broken colors Tomorrow I will go out &I Just ordered a few Burg cuttings & I sure hope I can root them anyone here that can give me good tips as to how ??? they should be here end of Next week or next so teach me QUICK Please..

Sprinkling rain started here about mid-morning and is supposed to last til sometime tomorrow, remnants of the Texas storm earlier in the week that's just about fizzled out. Early this morning while I was weeding, it was downright chilly and even got goosebumps for the first time and had to change clothes from shorts to sweats.

We had yummy bacon, egg and cheese omelettes this morning with a side of tomatoes our neighbor brought us I stuffed with cottage cheese.

Aster "Professor Anton Kippenberg" is strutting it's stuff.

A throwaway Sedum that wasn't much bigger than a plug a neighbor gave me last year is looking good.

Last year at hubby's prodding, I bought two small 4" pots of Cortaderia pumila for $4 each at a local nursery. Pampas grass reminds us of our trips to the beach, our alltime favorite place to vacation, and we'll always have these and similiar grasses in our landsccape knowing they can become invasive. Those two small plants have grown 6' tall in a only a year and are blooming now. I know I need to move them out of the garden next Spring since they're starting to tower over my Spider Daylilies. Once moved, they'll have lots of room to spread. Maybe they're good candidates to plant around telephone poles? Lots of folks around here do that. Another thought I had is they could be used as a privacy fence where we've lost White pines.

Last post tonight is of a not so friendly garden helper. My Canna garden is just around the corner and these meanies have managed to make "hole punches" in the leaves. When I walk in the Cannas either trying to prune or collect seeds, these guys sound like divebombers bouncing off the walls.

Firist I have to put Dinner in the Roaster but i need to go read my other mail & Have my coffee so you all have a great day .

What are your BEST FALL COLORFULL PLANTS ?? PLEASE SHARE WITH US .

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Susie, I have always placed my cuttings in cups of wet sphagnum moss, but that was not real good last year for over wintering. Maybe they just sat around too long. I am waiting on Debra to show her bubbler methaod, that sounds nice. But what ever you do, if nothing else, place your brugs in water with a little bit of peroxide, and keep the water fresh till you get them rooted. Once they show signs of rooting, you can plant them in pots.

Love the blooms, that aster is so pretty. Watch the pampass grass, they are well known here for a good hiding place for slithering creepies, and rodents.

Good Morning ladies, what a pretty yellow calla. A nice thing to see for sure. I love your sedums, too Susie, I hope you have a good day off and feel better. Off to work for me..

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

DeeJay, my callas bloom for me more in the winter than in the summer, go figure. I do put them in the solar room so they get lots of light.

Warmer and more humid here today, I would of taken today off but we had a meeting,.....course after I get here they cancel the meeting.....oh well.. it is pretty warm here today. Told hubby I would mow around the flower beds tonight...yuck..LOL anything to keep him away from them. I think I have most of the grass, crabgrass, and weeds out of the beds and would really like to keep it that way. We are suppose to have rain later this week but now it is clouding up.

Saw these steps at an antique/booth place. Looks like a good idea to me and not hard to make.
