Having children is like having a bowling alley installed in your brain.
Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends
Now where on earth did you get that 'saying' Crissy..lol
Did the smell test and even in this heat, room smells like roses so guess all is well with the mattress...
Crissy...I like the one "having children is like being slowly pecked to death by chickens" also....and this week, it sure has been!
I hope both of you feel better soon....not the best time of year to get rid of that. I will have a bout before summer is up I am sure.
Would you all tell me why "hitting 50" is having a major impact on my brain....and I am refusing to do it? Thinks I am just going to have a 21st anniversary of turning 29....and forget the whole thing. I feel like I am ready for the glue factory!
Debbie
Getting old, hmmm guess we just have to look at it like the seasons, we look forward to spring/summer/fall and well maybe not as excited for winter but we know it's the cycle Mother Nature puts us through, same for getting older, each cycle of life has it's own wonders! for example Debbie, young lady at the till at the restaurant told me I saved 62 cents, she was quite cheery, had never had a discount at that restaurant so asked if there was a special going on, she said 'it's a young lady's discount price' her way of saying senior ... I smilled and thought oh well, age has to get you something right?
Getting a kick out of your and Crissy's words of wisdom regarding kids..lol..I'm so lucky to have you gals to give me a laugh..will shortly need one! Ann will be here shortly ,said she'd like to just talk for awhile, so I'll be listening, just hope I don't break down along with her..
Went outside and worked a little of the garden area I want around the deck, was much too hot, came in and put my feet up...best I go wash up and make myself presentable..
Sailor is upstairs/downstairs/ she just can't seem to settle down, storm is a brewing..Toronto got hit hard, mega hail, lots of damage, hope it doesn't come my way...
Think I'll go take a few photo's of the garden just incase it does...
Oh Betty, Sailor senses that storm coming. Ann better be careful driving.
She is blessed to have you (as we all are) and such a hard time she is facing. I will certainly keep her in my prayers.
I do like the steps/deck also...with the change. Looks very welcoming, and a definately sturdy build.
As for the children....all four of mine (and even Michael dds bf) are fighting with each other. I kid you not...via text message...email...telephone.....and I am not getting involved. If they quit talking to each other....it will be peace and quiet! lol
Oh Debbie ! "I feel ya" as the kids say...
Funny how they text all the time. I text them now... but miss that DS doesn't have txt anymore... DH cancelled his the last time we had issues with him.
I hate it when the kids have drama like that (usually it's the girls). I wish you peace!
Judy - LOL you are SO RESOURCEFUL !!! I'd have never thought of a pantyliner...
Betty - we had 'issues' with Shadow... if someone closed the door between livingroom and our bedroom... he would "go"... DH used baking soda and that worked pretty well... he said it 'draws up the moisture' from the carpet.....also that OxyClean spray. I'm sure it doesn't smell but I know what you mean by ...you think it should even though it probably is fine....
Hello ALL! Crissy, LK, Susan, Stacey, Barb, Tubby "et al"....
Susan - sounds like when it rains it pours...
I'll pop back on here in a bit...
Hugs,
Mary
Debbie, must be something in the air...everyone seems agitated lately...
No $$$ didn't win...been quite a night though..a friend dropped in earlier, stayed for about 1/2 hr. - she no sooner left that Ann came, we just started to have a heart to heart when Aunt Muriel and my cousin Barb dropped in to play bingo with us..she doesn't have the bingo channel soooo we had to stop our conversation...
We played about 2 games when Susan called, waving Susan, was so nice to hear your voice sweetie...you do sound congested but you have your friend humor side a going..lol..
Girls took over playing bingo for me while Susan and I gabbed...best any of us could do was get down to 2 numbers for the big jackpot...
As the dogs were at home and a storm is brewing Aunt Muriel and Barb left after walking the gardens with me...oooh some more pretties were in bloom..
Waving Mary, how are things going for you...funny, at lunch today Suzanne and I were talking about state side, was saying how much I love New Orleans, so Suzanne says, how long of a trip is it???? I said a few days and I've a friend nearby who we could have coffee with..she smilled..maybe one day she'll decide she wants to see some of the states and off we go...
How are the gardens doing?
Never thought of oxyclean and do have some..before making the bed I sprinkled some baking soda on it..if I think it smells later on in the week I'll do the oxyclean thing..
Need more red phlox
Can tell I'm tired, rambling here...
After Barb and Aunt Muriel left, Ann and I chatted for a few minutes when Barb called...so nice to put a voice to a name..you have no idea Barb just what your cards and call has done for Ann...she's simply overwhelmed..
Had a nice talk afterwards...lots of things to think about...she is hoping that if Mike is up to it, on Sunday they might drive to Sault Ste. Marie, take the train and do Agua and then over to Makinaw (Makanaw ?) Island and spend a few days...
Said she was on a real downer but knows there is little she can do but start enjoying what days they have left, making the most of every one of them...
She sure appreciates all you concern and prayers...
Time for bed..
Best..the friendships
Worse..having a friend who is hurting so right now
What did I learn..things and people you meet happen for a reason, you may have been someone's earthly angel today...
night night
Betty, maybe you need to buy a waterproof mattress pad. Next time it won't get wet?
Beautiful garden Betty. All your flowers are really blooming now!
Oh Betty ! I can't imagine that I could grow flowers like that with our heat! Our phlox is SO SMALL...... tiny bedding plants!
You bring Suzanne down this way... and I'll have more than coffee! Funny I walked the path and as walking...thinking... October would be a great time for a Canadian visitor....the gardens will be pretty still and a bit of warm weather ....April is nice too..but the yard not much to brag about... (although with last years freeze...nothings much to brag about this year).
I ordered a free magazine from louisianatravel.com. There are festivals and Plantations and more
DH wants to visit ...just got home from work....so I'll be back....
Hugs,
Mary
Betty I'm glad you had a good conversation with Ann even with the interruption, and so glad Barb called when she was there, and Susan called too! Awesome!
Susan I should put International Calling on my phone so I can call you and we could be hacky and congested together! LOL
I'm sure after being locked in a room for 2 days the poor ki ki had to pee! LOL why do they always choose the bed over the floor?
Seems Toronto gets hit with a lot of weather. Yikes! Hail! Duck!
Mary, most likely you have creeping phlox..
Walked the gardens this morning and couldn't believe that fall flowers such as mums are starting to bloom, you know what that means don't you? I have a few lillies, not a lot of greenery on them but they still insist on blooming..made me smile..
So hot here at the office, a/c repairman said the main compressor needs replacing or repaired, has to check with building manager as to which they will do, doesn't help today though as it won't be ready he said for several more days..
Have Jeff and Julie over this evening, not sure if they'll spend the night or go to Greg's..would imagine Greg's because it's next to the lake entrance where they set off tomorrow morning..then Jeff can drive his truck back to Greg's and leave it there for 3 weeks...3 weeks of relaxation, how wonderful..
Know some of you followed his trip last year so just incase you want to check some of his antics..here is the thread!
hahaha Crissy - I have International calling - if you like, dmail me with your # and I'll do the same.
Ok - which one of us calling do you consider the "Interruption" LOL j/k, j/k!!!!
It was great to finally hear your voice, Betty - you're such a sweetheart!
I am feeling better for having Complete Rest...... and because the rain has stopped, it's not Quite As Humid. We also got rid of our mister/humidifier in our bedroom so I'll bet that helped, too. Thank you for all your prayers - I'm not completely better and it will take time that I have, thanks to my vacation time.
Now, to get sloooowly back to doing things - 1st thing is to find stuff for camping next week, including our camping dishes, and heavy clothing for the nighttime.
It will be soooooo great to get out of the city. My DH suggests we take a tiny TV because we'll be gone for about a week. We'll be have a huge power plug-in because it is RV-capable in the campsite.
Hope everyone's having a great summer day doing what you love best.
♫♪~§usan~♪♫
okay Betty - where's the thread? I watched his progress last year......
Crissy, it was 90% the quilts that took her mishap..very little on the mattress, infact I led the girls who were over last night into the room and nobody could smell a thing..thanks goodness, how embarassing would that be..
had coffee outside, walked the gardens, am amazed how much has flowered in just this past week, omg, even some of my lillies, basically just the stem and flowers...little critters ate most of the leaves..they must be strong willed to still be able to flower..
Looked at the back deck and saw that at the end there should be a railing but you know me, mind is always working...I remembered the other day that I had that 4-5' glass blue heron that I made still sitting under the bed...don't want anything to close the end of the deck so why not purchase copper tubbing and copper bendable pipping and make some kind of unit which includes soldering the heron on??? would look pretty so that's my goal...
On my way to work this morning I was almost in Hillsdale and there at the roadside was black wrought iron bed..2 pieces foot and head boards, could be used for something decorative in the garden..boo hoo, could only put the footboard in my little car..larger piece had to stay..didn't give up yet, called Bernie, he was bending metal and busy but I asked him if he could go check to see if it was still there???? haven't heard..so will be satisfied with the piece I have in the car...
I'll say like my boys 'mom, where will it end?' lol
Tubby, been a few days since you dropped in with a 'hi' you ok...
Bev, how about you and Scotty...
Debbie, sending you hugs..every time I think of Collingwood - biggest Elvis competition I believe in the world I think of how much you would have enjoyed coming over for the weekend and going wild with me..lol..sure wish you could have...
http://www.collingwoodelvisfestival.com/
Susan, neither you or Barb were the interruption, besides, always time to gab with all my friends...
Linda Kay, just noticed I didn't attach it...
http://2010summertrip.blogspot.com/
Should make a get together with all of you slated on the Elvis Festival weekend...sure is worth the trip, performers from all over the world...
think I'll be going on the Saturday and the Sunday if not Friday night as well..lol..was so much fun last year..
Hi Betty
Not lot to say...........
Tubby
Tubby, I look forward to you keeping me busy, I'm bored here at the office...let's play a game...you write a word or a sentence and I'll gab about it, wonder if I could do that..lol
How's the heat in your neck of the woods?
hahaha Betty - I was Just Kidding LOL (me and my abbreviations, eh? j/k!!)
I forgot you are at work during the day, so I called you, and (Elaine?) answered. She said it's "painting day".
I'm glad you posted the link, cuz I liked following his travels last year. You were a nervous wreak!
I'll try to call tonight.
More friends visiting my home when I'm not there than when I am lol
Aline is the telephone answering person for all the women..Ann since she's moved up also has joined them, they are such a fun group that I'm sure they will raise her spirits...
Yes, am a nervous wreck but not so much this year because he's not going solo...he's been seeing Julie here and there I guess for over 1 year because he stayed at her parents resort for a few days last year...I've never met her before, will be interesting tonight for sure..lol
Oooh sorry I wasn't home for your call..last night was kind of rushed with all those ladies joking about my missing the jackpot..lol another time for sure we'll gab/gab/gab
Que Susan? LOL

A MUST FOR YOU ALL TO READ, just sent to me by Cathy, sure think it's worthwhile to post...
Johns Hopkins Update – Very Good Article
AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY ('TRY', BEING THE KEY WORD) TO ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY ..
Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins :
1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer
cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have
multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients
that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after
treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the
cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable
size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a
person's lifetime.
3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer
cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and
forming tumors.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has
nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic,
but also to environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing
diet to eat more adequately and healthy, 4-5 times/day
and by including supplements will strengthen the immune system.
6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing
cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells
in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can
cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.
7.. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars
and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.
8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often
reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of
chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor
destruction.
9. When the body has too much toxic burden from
chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either
compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb
to various kinds of infections and complications.
10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to
mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy.
Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other
sites.
11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer
cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply.
*CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made
with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute
would be Manuka honey or molasses, but only in very small
amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in
color Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the
gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting
off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer
cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based
diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little other meat,
like chicken. Meat also contains livestock
antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all
harmful, especially to people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole
grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into
an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked
food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live
enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to
cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance
growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building
healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most
vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw
vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at
temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C)..
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high
caffeine Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer
fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or
filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap
water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.
12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of
digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the
intestines becomes putrefied and leads to more toxic
buildup.
13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By
refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes
to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the
body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
14. Some supplements build up the immune system
(IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals,
EFAs etc.) to enable the bodies own killer cells to destroy
cancer cells.. Other supplements like vitamin E are known
to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's
normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or
unneeded cells.
15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit.
A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior
be a survivor. Anger, un-forgiveness and bitterness put
the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to
have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy
life.
16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated
environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to
get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen
therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer
cells.
1. No plastic containers in micro.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave..
Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital , was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.
Please share this with your whole email list.........................
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead.
Susan! Thanks for calling me, I can talk on the phone at work, it's in our handbook that we're allowed to just as long as it doesn't interfere with our work, I like to keep it to a dull roar though, if you know what I mean. It was an absolute joy talking to you, call me anytime girl!
Crossword..hmmmm
Although I love doing crossword puzzles I'm not the best with any that are beyond Crossword Puzzles for Dummies...
Now if I look at crossword and taking it as 'cross word' I'd have to say that each word that comes out of our mouths should be reflected upon .. they must be word builders, just as in a crossword you build words, so should the words you say..must be uplifting to the person you are speaking with...think of the little silver box with the silver ribbon on top..each word that we say should be a word reflective of a silver box with a silver bow ontop..build the person's self esteem, bring them joy..no CROSS words...
how did I do tubby with your first word...
Betty - thank you for sharing the Johns Hopkins update. I sent it to my sister who has lung cancer - a lot of it is good common sense, and so has she ^_^
She's been a survivor for 12 years, and had more surgery in January, so is healing yet again......
I love the crossword "wordage", too. Keep 'em coming, Tubby!
Love the John Hopkins post Betty ! I had heard about the plastic in the microwave and wondered if anyone else had heard of this as well...
Hugs,
Mary
I always use glass containers in the microwave.
Hey LK!
How's the weather been? Seems like it's drought then floods in your area... Are your agapanthus doing well? I noticed they have the dark purple (the one DH wants) at my office.... SO.... wonder if I can propogate somehow !
Betty - Again - I'm being philosophical I guess... but reading the John Hopkins report reminds me of DH talking about gardening and the Acid vs. Alkaline...
The asparagus we planted likes an acid soil. The grass under our biggest tree won't grow well because DH says it's TOO acidic...so he's added lime.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if scientists could use gardening ideas to help curb cancer?
Hugs,
Mary
Hey Mary, weather is very humid here. Our temps have been in the high 90's, but the humidity is like 85 %! The agapanthus are doing really well. If you have some of the dark purple at the office, just keep an eye on the seed pods to develope where the blooms are, when they are dry, just pick them off. Or maybe ask if you can dig and divide them later this year?
Morning everyone! Betty, hope you have a good day at work. Hope you get that AC fixed.
morning everyone,
A/C still not working so will be a hot one today!
Yikes, wish the girls who come painting wouldn't try to help me out installing new fandangles...couldn't even access internet this a.m. or download all the photo's I took..Jeff was on a schedule so said before he goes back to the city after his vacation he'll make sure he fixes it, IF, I don't get frustrated and bring it in for repair before then..you know me, NO patience...
Got home at 5:30 and Jeff and Julie got there about 5:45..took the 2 kayaks off the truck, I'd never have guessed what came out of that truck could fit into 2 kayaks, was a challenge but it did...
Jeff/Julie just wanted to unwind but Greg and Melanie came over and wanted all of us to go boating, lordy, Greg was almost stamping his foot saying come on/come on and the more he'd say it the slower Jeff got..brothers...you got to love them..finally about 7:30 it was off for a ride on the bay and ended up heading to Penetang with a stop in at Paul's spent a few hours there, beautiful fire to keep the mosquito's away..ended up getting home at midnight..wasn't a ripple on the bay and the breeze was so warm..such an enjoyable evening with my family..
this morning I left for work and Jeff/Julie were ready to head out to start their 3 week adventure..let's hope as he did last year either be ahead of the rain or behind it...
Regardless, they'll enjoy!
As for saran wrap, yikes I'm always using it in the microwave..will have to pick up some glass containers..these things you just don't think about..
LindaKay, love the blanket..you did a fantastic job..sure love the prints/colors.. has the rain stopped in your neck of the woods...
Mary. yes, would be wonderful if they could help 'cancer' you have to wonder will all the brilliant minds how it's not possible..
Waving to all...Tubby need a new 'word'
No rain for a few days, but rain is all around us. Temps have been in the high 90's, and the humidty is 85 - 90 %. Witht he heat index, it made it feel like 108 yesterday!
Not far off that here Lindakay.. the humidity is the killer..
Must tell you Bernie called last night and said he did manage to go before garbage pick up to pick up the black wrought iron piece..doing the happy dance..lol..goodness knows here I will put it, getting pretty artsy..if not I, someone else will find a purpose for it..
Betty, knowing you, you will find the perfect place for that bedframe! Maybe some vines growing up and around it?
Betty it's just one girl. That would make me really mad. I don't know what you're going to do with her, it's not her computer and she has no business touching it, especially when you're not home. That's extremely disrespectful and you told her to stay off of it at least twice when I was there. You might have to tell her that if she touches your computer again she won't be allowed over to your house, period. You don't need a child in there.
Hope you get your AC fixed, supposed to be 112F here today...
Betty, you can set your computer with a password, that way no one can use it but you.
