Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Hot hot hot and muggy. It is going to be in the 90s for several days. My plants need water now and it rained 4 miles north of us and we have nothing. Maybe this evening. One time you wish for rain and another wish it would quit. LOL

Looks as though it's clouding up here as well Bev, could use rain, just not on weekends but weekend is almost over ..I've tools all over the yard, just picking up, bringing inside just incase...in happy medium is it..either too hot and humid or rain and then comes fall..this year was crazy, everything blooming earlier than it should have, then the humidity and heat, this morning the grass was wet from humidity and you could almost feel fall..when you think of it really, another few weekends and we'll be in August, all over but the crying then...I'll be thinking white..shaking my head and saying, please no....

Had to cut a piece of wood for the 4th birdhouse, while looking in my supply area didn't I find 2 legs already cut for a small bench..hmmm I say to myself...piece of lumber left from the birdhouses...simply glue and brad nail and there's a little bench for corner of the garden shed...is that luck or what

Victoria Harbour, ON

That did it..went outside and just had time to bring in the compressor and tools...rain..light rain but still the tools needed to be taken it..most likely won't last long..going to run down to Foodland, get a few things, perhaps by the time I return the rain will have moved on, if not, then it's a relaxing evening for me

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Mary it's weird about the GPS, I live in the hills and I never have a problem with it here. I did have a problem with it in Memphis and there are no hills or valleys or gully's in Memphis, it's like it works when it doesn't need to but will get you all turned around when you need it to work. I'm not impressed with them. I wonder if the cars that have GPS built into them work any better...

Betty look at those flox and all of the other colors too! So glad you get all the help you need, and then some! Love the add on to the back bedroom balcony, that's really nice, and looks great too!

Bev your pics are always very pretty, love how you do the bubbles and all. Gorgeous.

I'm trying to upload pics but I'm having a hard time, for some reason my satellite internet keeps going down!

Betty did Roger's Cable come out?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, they changed the telephone from Bell to Rogers, put new hightech system in, added cables etc.; was still difficult to access and he said it's my computer not the system..did start having problems when the girls started adding things to my system a few weeks ago...removed several of them, those that I knew were new..Jeff is suppose to be here Wednesday for a few hours before he and Julie leave for their 'kayak' adventure so maybe he can look at any other program I can un-instal..don't want to play with it myself...

Diane called and we chatted for 1/2 hr. unusual for me to spend that much time on the telephone...

Barb, was just talking to Ann, she is very upset and angry with the world..things did not go well...tumors are growing with speed, he has an infection and problems with one lung, what's hard to believe is that he is the picture of health..doctor told him he has to watch that he doesn't get an infection, well he didn't even know he had an infection..now they are saying very well could be in his bones...NOT ABLE to cure him...well you know what that means..Ann says he is very positive and says he's going to beat it, she says at some point you have to be realistic and start preparing..was hard for her to talk, said she'll be over either tomorrow night or Tuesday night...

Prayers would greatly be appreciated..

Debbie, was thinking of you today, less than 3 weeks 250 Elvis' come to town..lol

(((((((((Betty)))))))))))) prayer for you and yours..... so sorry to hear this news

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty, try to find out if I can call her. I did put another card in the mail but I think someone she doesn't really know talking to her might be beneficial. I'm more than willing. I once considered working for Hospice but felt that I couldn't do that kind of counseling on a continual basis. I know they were wonderful to me and my family with both my mother's passing and Norm's mother's passing. I have the utmost respect for them. In any case, please keep me posted. Off to get laundry started .....

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'll mention it to her tonight if she comes over, if not tomorrow night for sure Barb as it's our regular t.v. bingo...feel so badly for them...when I was in a grieving group the question that most came up by newcomers was, is it easier on the person grieving to have someone die without warning or a loved one that you spend time with over a long period of time knowing the ultimate end???

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That is a tough question Betty. I know I lost my Mom suddenly, and I thank God that she did not suffer when she had her massive brain hemorrhage. It is never easy either way.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I think being able to say "Goodbye" means the world to the griever when they know someone will pass. Knowing the time is near gives the person dying time to mend a few fences, too.

My father passed away after only a week in the hospital and that gave the family time for closure, and not a lot of time for pain on his part (relatively speaking, cuz he suffered a lot before going into the hospital......). I think that was the best all-around.

Victoria Harbour, ON

From our weekly talks I did learn that both are equally as traumatic..

When I think back on those last weeks I remember the pain, remember not being able to do anything for him, being at a loss! Did not talk about his dying because we were trying to have a positive outlook, didn't get the final word that he had little time to live until Christmas Day..he died New Years Day..most of my thoughts and memories are from those few weeks...

Those that have a loved one die without warning can remember what it was like the last day, the day they simply went on with their lives not knowing what would happen, to family who are left, they grieve not being able to say their last goodbyes...

No one way is better...what I did learn though was having the traditional mourning in a funeral home seemed to put those who went that route made them go through the grieving ritual while those who did not, had more issues with dealing with the death...

Not something we should be gabbing about on such a gorgeous day, but often, when it the time???

Been busy trying to look busy this morning...t.v. camera reporter and camera man are here doing a piece on a local Indian Band issue..Paul and Colin are representing them...they were here a few weeks ago meeting with everyone and scheduled the actual interviews for this morning..still ongoing..wouldn't want them to catch me sleeping on camera now would I?

Been reading Mary Higgins Clark novel 'Where Are You Now? about 1/2 way through and it's very interesting..

A/C doesn't seem to be working here this morning, muggy as old heck..

Called TimBrr Mart and ordered wood this morning so I can complete my weekend projects..most likely won't be delivered until tomorrow..they all know me at the order desk so who knows, might make a special delivery because they know when I decide to take on a project I want it done today...lol

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Boy Betty what a reputaion you are getting. I'm impatient too when I get going on something and need to stop. Sorry about the AC - I'd be on my way home without it!! Can't breathe when it's hot....
If Ann wants to talk, you need to dmail your phone number to me okay? Actually do that anyway. I'm updating some of my contacts and I don't have your number.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Prayers are going up here too Betty. Dave's favorite BIL is going through the same thing, bone marrow cancer, didn't know he had it, now it's everywhere and they can do chemo but it more than likely won't stop it, he opted out and told Dave over the phone that he's had a wonderful life and for everyone to not grieve for his loss, but to cherish the time he had with each and every person.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, sending prayers for Ann & her DH. It has been my experience that it is comforting to know...and prepare some, but you are never really prepared. It has only helped that I could say "I love you" every day til she left.

Waving...hello

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, hugs to you, know how difficult a time it was for you with your mom terminal..takes special people to deal with such crisis..are you on a routine now that school is out?

Crissy prayers for Dave's BIL as well...

Looks like a storm is brewing, you getting the same Debbie? how's everything in your neck of the woods? busy as usual I imagine and you are anxiously waiting for Paul's surgery???

Barb sent you my tel.#..Ann will be at the house tomorrow night between 8-900 pm, perhaps you'd like to call and say 'hi' just after 9pm...???

Lyndonville, NY

Betty we had a storm blow through between 2:00 & 4:00....of course Paul road the motorcycle to work. He said it wasn't bad on way home.

We have had some ups and downs, DD had a miscarriage...and I have been spending some extra time with her. She was just a few weeks along. They have been trying for some time and that is what the surgery she had in Feb. was for...to help with fertility issues along with the Endo.

Just going slow and steady here. It has been hot as anything for a few days.....and now the much needed rain. I will NOT complain!

Will hear tomorrow on DH's surgery dates and testing as he has instructions to call doctors office.

Be back in a bit

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Debbie, what a let down for them...on the good side they know they can now conceive??? poor little one, hugs and prayers going out to her and her hubby...As for Paul, let's hope he gets the operation and gets his eyesight back to the way it was...I've never seen anyone Debbie have more ups/downs than you sweetie...I've a nieve that of late same thing is happening..thank goodness you have such a sunny disposition or you would never have made it through everything...Got to tell you, sure wish you were here so I could mother you up..I'm good at that you know..drats, Elvis might have helped as well...lolBarb, you said TimBrr staff know me, indeed they do..all my supplies were waiting here when I got home..of course, one can't leave things in supply mode, must do something with some of it right?Did, but know I'll be in big trouble next time Bernie comes over...going to have to gently break it to him..Remember Saturday I said he and I were having issues, he put a little side step down, I said that was a no/no and he said it would be fine, said nobody is going to use that deck same as nobody uses the others..said I wanted a longer step down but he won out..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Well I didn't like it, so with it lightly raining when I got home it did not deter me...now have a 4 1/2 ft. step down...little high but my thoughts are this...within the next couple of weeks there will be gardens all around the back deck with some cement walking stones, so I'll build up the area maybe by 6" and it will be perfect...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Now doesn't that look better especially once there are flower gardens around it? please say 'yes' lol

Suzanne just called, she came into the office today with her foot black/blue, thought she broke her toe, well tonight she went to the hospital and broken it is, broke into a 'v' shape so tomorrow morning it's off for a walking cast because of the 'v' shape they don't want her putting any undo pressure on it..

Her girlfriend Marie is flying in from New Brunswick on Friday and they had so many plans, not sure she'll be able to do them all the way she is...now there's another girl that everything seems to go wrong for her...

Prayers for all who are going through mishaps....

I'll be going through a mishap when Bernie drops in, that's for sure...yikes, hope I don't make him feel bad...got to think of something to ease it in a conversation before then..oooh maybe I can put him off visiting until the snow falls...no can do, he's coming over in the next few weeks to figure out how to close the back deck in...

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

just got home - spent day at Dr office, ambulance and Health Care Center.
Extreme bronchitis and they can't do anything (took x-ray), but advised Codeine cough suppressant.
tired, and going to lay down

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh goodness Susan, sure hope your feeling better soon! Get lots of rest please? Are you on a breathing machine?

Baton Rouge, LA

Hugs to all ;

Betty - I've pondered that philosophical question as well. Mom was 'sick' in October of 2003. She went to hospital to have tumour removed and was released ...and came to visit us... during hospitalization many times. When (maternal) Grandma passed (in March 2004)...Mom told me that it was terminal but I would NOT believe it. Did NOT accept it.

She told me early August that it was not going to be long... again ... I did NOT believe...would not accept.

Granted.... I was newly married with a (now) family of five who depended on me as the primary bread-winner for the family in a job on commission ( I did not make $$ unless I sold something... and how do you sell anything when you are depressed?)

So I suppose that knowing in advance is better...however I beat myself up all the time on how I could have "BETTER" spent that last year with my Mom. (My mom was a perfect Mom by the way)....

Hugs to Debbie... I know that must be hard.... but as Betty alluded to... does that mean there is hope that she can conceive ? (((HUGS)))

Thank you to all - LK/Barb etc. who are reaching out to all folks...

Hugs,
mary

This weekend was absolutely incredible!!!
We hosted a wonderful weekend for all the people who Helped us with our Cottage, the Wi house...They did absolutley NO work, just played, ate and drank, lol and slept in between.

Yikes, one of our guys caught his woman some fish, she is vegetarian, well, My honey showed them how to clean the fish...LOL,, the Alfa male ( not my Dh) did great except that he proceeded to Stab his finger clear thu!! So, being the Ma, I cleaned his finger. Well showed him the soap, Peroxide and Bandaids...a single bandaid did nothing for him, and being a woman, proceed to fix him up with a???
ROFLOL, A Pantyliner! lolo, but it worked like a charm, We laughed so hard, I was crying....

Anyway it terribly late and my kids just got home so I will see you all tomorrow.

Best, The entire weekend.
Worst, Someone got hurt.
Learned, younger people are overwhelming at times , But excellent company. Also, It was incredible to see my Bro, and SIL.

See you tomorrow!

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Susan-Do you have fluid in your lungs or is it a dry cough?? Have had bronchitis many times when we lived in AZ-2X a year for the last 4 years we lived there. Mine always came with fluid in the lungs. I would get prescribed an antibiotic and a cough syrup and in about a week and a half would be all better. Sometimes I got an inhaler too.

Judy-sounds like you all had a blast!! What a man-wearing a pantyliner on his finger;)LOL

Betty-just tell Bernie that you wanted the step to match the over all look of the deck (which it does now) and instead of being a pain and calling him, you just decided to spare him the headache and did it yourself. That makes it seem like you wanted to involve him, but instead of being a nuisance over one measly step, you did it yourself to save him the trouble:)

Victoria Harbour, ON

LOL sounds like a plan Stacey..I'll dig out the gardens this week and say that I decided to hide the cement deck holders and because the one step was attached to it thought I should move it..one thing you don't want to do is hurt the feelings of someone who is always there to help out right?

Susan, you are on 2 weeks vacation right, the new meds surely will help but if you are out camping and it's damp it might create more of a problem..

Judy, you always seem to give me something to chuckle about, yes you do...how creative is that, using a pantyliner..multi purposing..you'd better let the panty liner company know there are more than one use for their product...sounds as though you had a fantastic weekend..you'll not be going up to the cottage till fall now right..imagine those words 'fall' it is just around the corner isn't it? then we all know what comes next..

Had an incident the other day, Missy, my white and black kitty went missing for 2 days..not unusual for Riley but unusual for Missy..last night when I arrived home Cathy had left me a note saying she was over to let Sailor out and went in the back bedroom to look at the deck changes and there was Missy, dying to get out BUT guess in the 2 days she's been in there she wet my bed...so washed all the bedding, including top quilt and lap quilt...had some rug wash for when the kitty went on the rug years ago, took it and made a mixture and washed the end of the mattress...sure hope I don't have to buy a new mattress, that one was only slept on about 10 times..yikes...any suggestions as to what else I can do..don't think it smells but because I know, I think it smells...

Better win at t.v. bingo tonight and buy another..odd thing is, she never cries, or meows..my bedroom is right next to that bedroom and I should have heard her...hmmm that`s what I get for shutting doors..

Always something!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Too adorable Stacey, know that Janice does stitching, saw the beautiful work she did on your shower gift at Joyce`s..do you do cross stitch as well..

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I do some cross stitch-have to have the patience to get one done though. Poor Missy. Maybe you can go to a pet store and ask them about the mattress-I know they have special stuff for carpets, so why wouldn't that work on the mattress as well??

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty I love the deck, and yes it does look better! Best wishes for Susanne's toe, I know how that hurts!

Susan won't they give you antibiotics? I'm a coughing fiend right now probably until we can turn on the heaters. Hopefully it won't go into Bronchitis but it wouldn't surprise me if it does, I think I'm going to make an appt to get another prescription. I had a standing prescription for unlimited refills of Advair and another inhaler but that pharmacy has been bulldozed.

Stacey that stuff is all so cute!!! Johnathan's going to be all decked out in his dragon stuff.

Judy so awesome that you got to spend time with your brother and SIL! How cool! Yes Dave has an interview Friday at 1pm. Thanks for keeping everything that is crossable crossed! LOL I want to eavesdrop on your and Liz's conversations about me, I'd be ROFLOL!

Well Beans, I've got to visit some other threads real quick and get to working here.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Betty, Tiga has an 'open door policy,' we have to keep bedroom and closet doors open just enough so they're not latched or she'll jump and hit the door handle (we have handles, not knobs) and open the door herself, so yes, all of our doors in the house are always open a little.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Just the a/c was working so hard in this heat, thought why cool the bedrooms if they are not in use..should have known Missy is always around the house..oh/oh not last night though, the neighbors have a raised flower bed on the side of their house, saw them gabbing when they came home from work, yep, Missy was in digging..

She sure is getting herself into trouble..

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

It's a dry cough - no fluid
Didn't give me any antibiotics, but said to take codeine cough suppressant - available over-the-counter, and we got rid of our little humidifier in the bedroom - probably had scummy water, it's difficult to keep water clean in it. I'm also supposed to use the puffer.

Calgary is normally very dry, and I hadn't had bronchitis since I left humid Winnipeg. This year Calgary is very very humid (very unusual) and this year is the one for me to contract bronchitis again. Coincidental? I think not.
Anyway - Waterton is also very dry, so hopefully camping will be ok...

We got a call while I was in Emerg, from our salesman with a client who wanted to see our mobile....... so we missed it. He'll see if the client would like to see it tonight.
In the meantime, I'm gently moving around to hang up coats and do the dishes. What would normally take 1/2 hr is taking 3 hours......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Drats, am sure Susan if they were interested last night they'll be interested today..hope this is the one...

You just be careful and don't overdo while on vacation, slow yourself down...a must!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

yes Betty - slowing down..... I know better. Glad I'm on vacation, and I will slow down. Had a 2 hr nap last night, and went to be 1 hr after I got up. slept 8 1/2 hrs. Still feeling dragged of course, but am taking 3 hrs to do 1/2 hr's work to get the place ready for viewing.
It's a buyer's market, so don't know how things will go with the buyer. We'll just have to wait and see.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Eventually you'll hit upon the right buyer and for close to the asking price..am sure of it...

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

me too.
I have faith!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh my goodness Judy, that is just too funny! Glad it worked for you.
We are doing fine here. All the flooding is 8 miles from us.

Susan, please take care.

Stacey, those items are so cute. Wish I knew how to cross stitch!

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay, never too old to learn..lol

Glad you weren't involved in all the flooding
