hello i am new here and it is the (most) for any info your looking for . I have found that most of the ones i have talked to are very friendly and i really enjoy being here. i am a paid subscriber and i live in zone 6 which is in greeneville tennessee. I am a mother of 2 beautiful girls and a grandmother to 1 handsome grandson. Been married to my wonderful husband for 11 yrs. My mom was green hands not just the thumb she could grow anything anywhere . Dont think she ever lost or killed a plant in her life. I lost her to the good lord 2 yrs ago this july 1st and it has taken me this long to get back into plants when she passed i gave all my plants away , mowed them down , or whatever i had to do to stay clear of the beauty . I couldnt bare seeing all that she had loved all her life to still be here and her not. SILLY HUH !!! But im back into my plants now . So thanks for having me here .
Welcome and thanks for joining us Brady.
Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful dads out there!
It is going to be 98* with a heat index up to 108* here today so I don't guess we'll be doing much outside.
Everyone have a good day!

Hi, All. While I've been using Dave's Garden for years for plant info, and have even posted many pictures from my own gardens, I have never participated in the forums. Decided this morning that I'd go ahead an get involved with you all, if you think you can stand me! I participated for years in another garden forum, but it seems to be breathing it's last.
I've been gardening here in Central Alabama about 24 years ago, though didn't call myself a gardener for the first 5 or so years. I had so many different gardens ... full sun, part sun, dappled shade, deep shade. I was on a forested mountain ridge and it seemed I had the best of everything. DH and I got tired of dealing with all the leaves, etc. We built a new home in a new subdivision and moved in fall of 2007. This is my 3rd gardening season here and I'm still working on improving the soil. Not only was the top soil the builder brought in the worst you ever saw, it was placed on top of rocky hard subsoil. It was very tricky to create well-drained beds, but I'm beginning to make friends with it all.
Daylilies are at the top of my favorite bloomers, and I'm obscessed about deadheading every morning so that when I take pictures there are no spent blooms. The neighbors here in my new neighborhood have gotten used to seeing me every morning running around with a bucket in one hand and my camera in the other. They just shake their heads, say "Bless her heart!" and go on.
Sorry for the long post. Did I mention that I'm a little "wordy"? The first daylily I every purchased and planted was the Red Volunteer. It is still my favorite and I'll bet I've divided it at least a dozen times, and photographed it hundreds!
Welcome Blumz and Brady! WooHoo! New Friends! Blumz, I love that one! Going on my list! I love red flowers!
Thank you, Skellogg. I got it from Oakes Daylilies in Tennessee ... my favorite source. As a matter of fact, I'm going to their Daylily Festival this weekend. I've never been and have been wanting to go for years. I'll be joining approximately 4,000 others who never met a daylily they didn't love.
Welcome blumz! We always welcome new friends. We'll have to introduce you to the lasagna bed thread to help you with that soil! I have heard of the daylily place you're going to. Sounds awesome! Be sure to take lots of pictures for us if you can.
Have a good day everyone-- Hugs ;-)

Good to meet you Bradysnana and blumz....Love the red lily, mine is just budding out. I take the same picture of the same fower sometimes several times a day...they look different in the morning ,noon and night. Right?

Oh ny the way the chatty...you would get lost in here if you weren't chatty!!
Doesn't the surprise lily do that? The leaves die back and then it surprises you with a bloom stalk later on in summer?
