His stuff is great.
What have you ordered 2010 #7
New echinacea order arrived. Plants look good. Got three each of 'Maui Sunshine', 'Marmalade', 'Tangerine Dream' and one 'Flame Thrower'. Now all I have to do is keep the ground hog away from them after they get planted so they can grow and bloom. Also noticed some bug is eating my new pink echies 'Prairie Splendor'. Looks kinda like beetle damage, but can't find the culprit. Will have to go out after dark to check I think. Also a few top tender leaves here and there are turning black from frostbite but most things seem to have done okay. It's a battle out there, bug, critters and strange weather will not leave my garden alone. It does make it more rewarding when things thrive and bloom I guess, so keep up the good fight everyone.
Ordered four stokesia 'Peachy's Pick' for the slope garden to replace weigela midnight wine. The weigela stays nice, compact and flowers but most of the time it looks a ratty shade of brown to me. Maybe too much sun or that may be the mature color, at any rate I can't stand looking at it any more. Some nice bright green and blue flowers will be a welcome replacement.

Also the clems from Deb should arrive next week too so that will be that as far as orders. Get the clems in and the new echies and all the planting for this spring will be done. Now to keep the weeds under control and mulch the rest of the beds and the hardest part... waiting for everything to grow and bloom.
I placed another quick order with Deer Resistant Plants. Hellebores, and a few more geranium and mayapples.
I need more geraniums, but I can't decide which ones I want. Got my order from Fieldstone Gardens in Maine: Phlox Magic Blue, Helenium Mardi Gras, Nepeta Joanna Reed, and 2 campanulas, Plum Wine, & Odessa. Now to plant them.
everyone needs some martha washington geraniums!!!
Yep, but these are perennial ones that I need for edging.
Two totally surprise purchases today. I went to get fuchsias for the front porch, so the hummingbird would quit coming to the window and nagging, and lo and behold my favorite nursery has tiny little evergreens and ONE miniature Ginkgo biloba "Green Pagoda". I also bought Chamzecyparis pisifera "Snow", a white Swara Cypress. They are perfect for my fairy park.
I ordered 5 shrub Knockout roses in the color "rainbow" from the same place we got them last fall. They called a few weeks ago and apologized and said all their roses froze and they couldn't fulfill the order. I said fine, fine, we'll make do. But now our first three are blooming and they look fantastic. And they would look even better with a few more! I think I will try to track down a vendor.
i went to hd today to cancel the fp redbud - saw it and it came home. will be planted tomorrow.
You are WEAK!
Don't walk by the brothel!
Carrie, I've seen Rainbow Knockout at nurseries around here, so you should be able to find some. Bill, You are soooo bad.
no i am not:) my forest pansy is a mess and the burgandy ?? was supposed to be more purple NOT - a great tree needed a good one.
Went to a couple nurseries today to see if I could find a new JM. THe first one had good prices but no weeping form JM lots of Shirazzes.
The next one had Tamukeyama but trained up in tree form...they wanted $90!!! I got mine for $65 at Rare Find.
I want to take another ride to the town south of me there's about 3 nurseries on this LOOOOONGGGGG country road.
I like that purple flower, Jo...is it an ice plant? Wish there were more nurseries around here....think I'll take a trip up to Wards in Great Barrington next week.
It's a Livingston Daisy....but I've never had one! Bought purple salvia, million bells, & verbena, & white petunias & verbena for a container.. also bought some lavender.
Hee hee! Just received a box of more plants to trial! 2 each of three new flowering quince and 2 of a new landscape rose.
Hit one of the nurseries that was closed yesterday, they had JM's but they wanted $190 for them.
EEEK....I would run the other way. Victor, what color are the landscape roses?
Reddish. I'll get the name and try to get a link.
We bought a Acer Shirazz today in Hyannis. It is still at the Country Garden Nursery until we can get it to Nantucket. A Nice one for 179.00. It is bigger than the one we saw in Vt for 260.00 recently. They had about 10 of them. They have put it in their hold area, so we will get it next week or when I have to go back up to the doctors. That has been way too many times of late.
Yesterday DH and I were starting to lay the walk ways in the veggie bed when DH discovered a stone. He tried to dig it up and it turned into a pretty nice sized boulder left over from the ice age. Cool. We dug it up and hauled it via a big hand dolly to a spot I liked. Then he found another one, and yet a third. By then the afternoon was shot, but we now had three new rocks which is a big deal on a sand pile like Nantucket. I am going to extend both ends of the Japanese maple bed to house them, thus we needed that Shirazz to anchor the extension on one end. Perhaps I need another one for the other end. I will take pictures when I get the Shirazz and the rocks settled into their new spots. The rocks are not WOW ROCKS, like Wha's, but a cool find. Patti
Bluestone is replacing my Lithodora Grace Ward, they never came up.
I'll be making another trip to RareFind to check the JM stock again.
congrats on the shirazz and the three rocks patti!! can't wait to see it - do not be afraid to plant it in full sun.
Heading out tomorrow at the crack of dawn on the Garden Centre Shopping Tour. Dum de dum de dum. Can't lift a steamer trunk to carry the purchases so going with giant tubs. Dum de dum de dum. HEY Isnt it time for the Bluestone SALE?
nice choices Jen
My JM has been shipped, hope to get it soon....I'm sure it will be small, but that's OK. The one I gave my son is looking better in the ground....the color deepened, but it still needs to be staked....kind of an odd shape to it.
Ordeing irises today. First time this year, as I have to see what we are digging for the sale. All are median (5) no TBs.
digging day at your house .... would love to be there for that!!!
We don't dig until July. Then our iris club has its sale.
love cindy - and your tree too marilyn :)
Here is the rose I received to trial.
