System Issues (Part III)

As I'm sure you're aware, the whole site was down from 5:08 to about 5:25pm PDT. Here's the message I got:

Database error: connect to host davesgardendbhost1 failed
MySQL Error: ()

Session halted.

I just tried posting over on "Coffee" and received the following error

I've been undable to get back on DG for the past 10 mins. I kept getting that same page.

I just got the same message when I tried to open another window on DG, tried a second time and got the same message again so I didn't bother trying again.

Guess that would be correct for our time zone too. Tried to log on to DavesGarden multiple times between 7:15 and & 7:30 with the white blank stare and same Database error.

Hoping for resolution sooner or (even) later.

Same thing here so I had to give up after several tries and water plants. It was fine when I returned about five minutes ago.

Same thing for me here. Hope it's nothing major.

Just happened to me again as well. I was trying to post in a forum and bam!
None of my links worked to get back in. I finally gave up and did some other work on the internet.
Very releived to see DavesGarden appear when I tried again!

Add me to the list of receiving data base err0 message several times tonight, and randomly on occasion.

I thought it was just me, but I've gotten that white page with the error message a few times, too. I usually give up, go away and come back later.

Nope, not just you but it seems like "just us". Admin is acting like we want to throw rotten tomatoes. lol

LOL!! I feel like I'm throwing them sometimes. LOL

Well, that happened to be the time I was trying to get dinner on the table (7 pm CDT, yes?)

I'll ask the tech team to take a look at the logs for that time period. On the one hand, the site stats say the pages are loading pretty fast, as a rule. But we keep getting reports of sporadic outages. It sounds like that one lasted long enough that it should show up in the logs.

I got the same database error message around the same time here on the East Coast. I think it was @ 8:30 p.m. (DST) here. I went to facebook and asked if anyone else was having the problem because I couldn't get back on DG anywhere, anyhow. Never got anyone to answer me on facebook so I finally just quit Safari. Later when I went back I was logged out of DG but signed back in without a problem and haven't had the error again.

I'm on Firefox now and no problems at all.

I just got the blank white page with the error in the upper left corner at 9:05 Mountain Time. I was trying to access a thread in the "Latest Posts at DG" feature on the home page. The thread I was trying to access was 'Are trumpet vines really actually EVIL??' in the Vines & Climbers forum.

I got the message the first time, backed out using the browser (firefox) back button, tried again and got in the second time.

I couldn't access the site last night for about 2 hours around 8 EDT.
It seems like the site is down a lot more after the new folks bought it.

I just wanted to say that I just used the search feature and it worked perfectly and was very fast, I found the exact thread I was looking for in about 2 seconds! Wooooo hooooooo! Good job tech team!

I forgot to mention this earlier. This afternoon I uploaded a fairly sizable photo to my journal. It 'went' instantly, so fast that I had to double check to convince myself it was actually there.

On the other hand, I am still seeing that rather odd thing where the screen jumps around. Just now, for instance, when I 1st started to type my post in the message box on this thread, the screen suddenly jumped up to a post 2 or 3 up and then jumped back down to the message box again. This is not an isolated occurrence but something I see fairly often.

I have seen that jumping around thing twice when starting to type a post.

The page-jumping...do you ahve ads turned on or off? And are you running any ad-blocking software? (I suspect it has to do with the space that an ad takes up, even if you don't see the ad itself.)

I have popup blocking on. I don't know about add blocking software. I'm using a MacBook Pro - not a Windows computer. I'm running Firefox.

I have adds turned off on DG, the only exception being the Top Watchdog Adds which I turned on back when Dave was testing that new feature. I've never turned it off since then. I've noticed that it is blank now since IB took over. Don't know if that may have anything to do with it.

This issue with the screen jumping around is a new problem. It is something which very definitely started since IB moved the software. I had seen it a number of times before I actually mentioned it. It also happens when I'm reading threads (as well as writing posts). I had wondered if it might have something to do with a malfunction of the "Jump to new" feature.

It's been slow to load for months. If things aren't running smoothly again soon I can't see paying the subscription to renew. That's sad too because I've always enjoyed Dave's Garden. It's still on my current home page but the slowness sure doesn't encourage me to come see what's new. Everytime I try to open photos a big blank box sits there and sits there. It was never that way before. Sure is discouraging when other sites work so well.

My pages still skip, was skipping about the pages even before I noted it in my April 29th post.

I had that same problem last winter for a short time, but it was on all sites not just DG. Cleared itself up.

Occasionally I still have the issue of the text spilling out of the borders--am I still the only one who has that? Don't see it on any other site. I'm using WindowsXP and Firefox.

This thread took about 45 seconds to load. I'm on High Speed so that isn't an issue. If this thread was full of photos I could possibly understand the delay, but there are NONE here.

It's been this way since the middle of March. Rarely do I not have some type of issue that frustrates me since then. I use several different computers and it's the same on them all.

I love Dave's Garden and sure hope these issues are resolved soon. I know you guys are working diligently on the problems and I do appreciate all you all do. The site worked better than any other I've ever been on before the server changeover. It's very discouraging though to sit and wait and wait and wait. The photos are a big deal on this site. Everyone posts them and I'm so glad they do. That's one of the main attractions for me.... being able to see new coleus, etc. But when I open a thumbnail, 9 times out of 10 (regardless of the forum I'm trying to visit) I'll get a big white box that just sits there. I will try to get a screen shot next time it happens.

Janet, please do record all the details you can. No one else seems to be encountering this issue, which makes me wonder if it isn't something in your set-up that's fighting the system here. (I have no idea what it would be, though.)

It's 11:25 pm EDT and the voting booth question hasn't been updated from last week.

daves wouldnt load tonight took for ever and page times out. tried to lo0ad this thread and all i got was blck boxes for a minute then it would load.
