System Issues (Part III)

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Why are all the posts showing times that are all wrong? I've noticed this in all the threads I've looked at this evening. The time right now in my Central time zone is 10:03 PM so it will be interesting to see what time it shows I made this post. I"m looking at Posts I made this morning around 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM that are showing times in the middle of the night! Even if DG uses Pacific time they're still all messed up.

Is anybody else seeing this? Or is it just on my computer?

This thread shows I made a post at 3:08 AM! At 3:08 AM I was sound asleep. Everybody elses posts are just as bad.

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Yep, that's a problem that's been presented already, and they plan to work on that. Looks funny, doesn't it?

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I went to the SW Forum a while ago and saw all kinds of new threads that are showing times from this morning - lol. I know I didn't miss them all earlier.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

That doesn't work when the item's already in a Word program.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Now the banner and all of the menu choices at the top of the page are square boxes with little xes in them.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

This is about the issue discussed the other day, the one where the page sometimes jumps around. I'm just providing additional info here because I just saw it happen again. I realize you have other things going on that may be bigger priorities.

I opened a thread (link available if you need it) and clicked "skip to new" which took me to the bottom of the page. I was reading the last 2 posts at the bottom when suddenly the screen jumped back up to or near the top and then back down again. When it does this, it moves so fast that I can't see exactly how high it goes before it's back down again.

I thought about what you said (about it possibly having something to do with ads). Since it moved up toward the top and back down again, I thought your suggestion seemed more likely than my own (that it might have to do with 'skip to new' since that would move down not up).

I went to my preferences and found that I had Top Watchdog Ads checked (on) and also sponsor ads (on). I decided to run an experiment. I turned off Top Watchdog Ads. Now I'll wait a while to see if the pages still jump around. If that doesn't fix it, I'll try turning off sponsor adds. If either of these appears to fix the problem I will report back.

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

I had a weird thing happen the other day. Should have posted then, but I didn't really have the time. Didn't think of it again until now after reading this thread.

I was editing an entry in my blog. When I was done I clicked finished as usual. Then I clicked on 'Back to Viewing your Garden Blog'. Instead of taking me back to my blog, it took me to a page from June 2005 in the Daylily Forum.

Melbourne, FL

I am having the same problem with the top banner and buttons missing. I assume it is universal.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

localkelly, I think we all gained an hour (*smile*) It is a problem that started after we put in some fixes last night. I've let them know.

DreamofSpring - thank you; that may be an important clue to being able to replicate this problem. Please let me know if you continue to have the bouncing page issue occur now that you've changed your preferences.

Joy, that is a navigation issue that has been "wonky" on a few pages (mostly administrative reports and such) for quite a while, but has recently become worse. We've notified the tech team about it.

faeden and gardenpom, I'm seeing the banner fine. Can you try refreshing or rebooting and see if that clears it up?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

This a.m. when going to a thread with new posts (listed in thread watcher) I click on skip to new and it drops to the bottom of the thread. I have to scroll back up and see where I last left off. Is it just me? It just started this a.m.

BTW, I lost that hour you gained. Send it my way. My posts read an hour shy.... lol

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

pod,

No, it isn't just you. I have seen that a number of times. For me it has been happening for weeks.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Is it EVERY thread that has "new" next to it? Or just some? Is it the same thread (new posts cause you to return to it?)

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

I'm not sure. One reason I never reported it is that I was never paying enough attention to be able to report things like what you asked. I know it has happened a number of times with a particular thread in Wildlife, but don't know, for instance, if it has happened with others as well. When it happened, I was returning to a thread I had visited many times before. As podster stated, I had new posts as indicated by the thread watcher. I actually did have the new posts, but when I clicked "skip to new" it went all the way down on the page to the reply box. I had to scroll back up and find my starting place. It doesn't happen all of the time with that thread or even most of the time. At least, I don't think so. I will try to gather better info on my occurrences.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

When it happens, are there actually new posts (or a new post) that you haven't read yet?

Shenandoah Valley, VA

I'm having the same problem with the graphics on the banner (and at the bottom of pages) being x'd boxes. Refreshing, closing the site and coming back haven't fixed it.

Photos inside posts are showing up fine.

Okay, this is odd. The banner photo is showing up in the Dahlia forum but not on any other pages. And the home button is showing up on the forum pages but not on the main page.

Oh good (sort of) -- then I'm not the only one. What hart said, I have the same thing, just started this morning.

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

I've had that problem off and on. Sometimes I have to refresh more then once to fix it.

Bark River, MI

Nothing I do (reboot, refresh, leave DG and come back) seems to change anything. Has DG completely stopped working with IE, maybe?

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Terry, yes, when it happens, there are new posts that I haven't read yet.

If/when it happens again, I'm going to try to collect more specific information for you: link to thread, date/time, etc. Will report back then.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

For those of you experiencing banner photo problems, are you operating in I.E. 8 or some other browser (or version of I.E.)?

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

I'm on IE8, and today the banner/menu problems are gone.

Kalama, WA(Zone 8b)

I'm using Opera. I used Firefox forever, but it doesn't like my 10 year old computer sense their update. IE is too slow on my computer.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

All the posting times are wildly off today. I just posted
something at 1:07 p.m. Mtn Daylight time and it showed
as 07:06 AM. It's been happening all day in numerous
threads.

Edited to add that I use Firefox and I did go back in and
check that my DG preferences were correct. They were.

Hi june_nmexico,
Apparently that's been an ongoing complaint. I, also complained about it in a post yesterday. KyWoods mentioned that it's an issue that others have already brought up. I assume it's site wide, but don't know for sure.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

IE performing well here.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes there are new posts on the threads that jump to the bottom of the page. I apologize as I did not note which forums/threads that has happened on. I will promise to do better...

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Argh! Ok, now I'm totally confused with the time thing. Is the time at the top right side of the home page supposed to be right for my area? Because it's not. It used to be. I haven't changed anything, but now according to that time at the top of the Home page, I appear to be on Eastern Standard Time rather than Eastern Daylight Time. What happened?

I checked my preferences. It's set to UTC-5 which corresponds with Eastern Standard Time (the time showing on my home screen), I didn't change anything. My account has been correct time-wise since I 1st set it up years ago. I don't understand how it suddenly became incorrect.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Last niight, we put in a fix that was supposed to correct the problem with the PlantFiles photos having an 8-hour time difference between their actual posting time and the time stamped on their accompanying threads.

I could be wrong, but I think instead of fixing that problem (it didn't), it may have messed up everybody's time on their posts. Please don't worry about trying to tweak your personal settings - let's let the tech team undo whatever they did and try it again ;o)

Logan Lake, BC(Zone 3a)

I just checked my time and it's incorrect now.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Sigh...think I'll unwatch, after 3 threads of this, it's getting rather old, makes me sad. Just feels like things are spinning in circles.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Terry, I am running IE6 at work (no other choice) and on the SW Forum this is what I see in the header... No pics/tabs just the red x in the little box. Never had this issue before in IE6. That after the page takes forever to load...

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Well, no image... I've always been able to print screen and save to a word doc and post. What happened there?

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

My time is fixed now! (happy dance) It (Korean Standard Time) had been off by an hour ever since y'all went to DST.

I have had the (skip to new taking me to the reply box instead of the first new post) problem intermittently too. I think that it get's better when I clear my cache and reboot my browser (chrome)

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

As Terry wrote above

Quoting:
You can't post a word document - you'll need to save the screenshot (print screen) as a .jpg or .gif or .bmp file (a photo file) and then upload it.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Thanks Calif_Sue... I wonder when that changed as I have always done it that way... I'll have to try again and save as an image file!

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

And it just happened.... I got the message that another post had been made while I was typing and I returned to the thread and hit skip to new and it skipped right to locakelley's second post, missing the first one and Calf_Sue's post.

Oh, in the box on the left; what time we post at is off by 3 hours.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

My current time is just after 2 pm... Time on posts is showing just after 5 am today.

Here's another attempt at a screen shot of the SW Forum issue. I am not having this issue in any other forum so far. Notice at the bottom it still shows 23 items remaining to download... It will go on like that for minutes and when it is finally "done", still not tabs or pic - just the red x and box.

Another weird thing I just noticed is none of the Admins say Admin under their username. And Farmerdill's does not show Uber under his when he just posted on the veggie forum.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

The screenshot shows pictures...do you mean further down the page there are just red x's? I see the banner now (I was looking at the forum pics.)

So is that forum doing that consistently or just once? The SW forum is one that has its own banner, correct?

This message was edited May 13, 2010 4:19 PM

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

It's consistent - has been all day long. We have our own banner, you are correct - a beautiful cactus bloom!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Is it working now? Because it loaded fine for me.
