System Issues (Part III)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Yep - the tech team leader caught it while we were on a conference call, so he's digging into it. They've been very random and elusive - very hard to pin point them, but now that it happened to him, it might be easier to trace it back ;o)

Silsbee, TX(Zone 9a)

This may have already been covered and please ignore this post if it has...this is really just an annoyance anyway...

On my homepage every now and then (right now it's doing it) the latest posts will *all* be PlantFiles Pictures. Posts are by different users, the date is the current date, but the time is 9:23 PM. What the heck is up with that?

The thing is that even if I hit refresh it doesn't change the latest posts. I don't think it updates or changes until after 9:23 PM, or whatever time is listed for the posts. All the posts have the same posting time listed for them, and it seems as though they always have a posting time of around 9 PM. Go figure.

Just wondering about this. It seems to happen at least once a week, maybe twice. I'll have to pay more attention or post here when it does happen. Like I said, it's more of an annoyance than anything. I just happen to really like the latest posts board, that's all.

Thanks for any and all help,
Heather

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Heather I reported that to the tech guys today. It is an irritant when the home page "newest posts" area is overrun for several hours ;o)

Thanks Terry

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Not sure if this was intentional (it was kinda funny), but worth a mention. I clicked on the chat and where it says who is online? when I clicked on it it said Who is online: Nobody is online? There must be a bug.

Made me laugh (and it doesn't do it everytime), but thought you might want to know just in case...

I obviously have too much time on my hands today...

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

LOL, I saw that message once a long time ago, way before IB got here.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

So maybe it is supposed to say that... I found it rather funny though thought it strange I had never seen it before;o)

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

It made me laugh, too, when I saw it...wonder if that was Dave's sense of humor, or someone else's...

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Sounds like something Dave would do - lol.

I've been getting this error off and on all day:

Database error: connect to host davesgardendbhost1 failed
MySQL Error: ()
Session halted

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I know - I just flagged an alert to the tech team.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Yep, me too.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Me too!

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

yes, I got this this am

Database error: connect to host davesgardendbhost1 failed
MySQL Error: ()
Session halted

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

In these cases, are you able to quickly get into the system by refreshing your browser or hitting the link again?

If you can note two things:

1) the specific time you got the message; and
2) the link you were trying to access (preferably the hyperlink, but if not, at least a description of the specific post, thread, forum, photo, feature, etc. you were trying to open.)

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Got this message at 2:27pm:

Database error: connect to host davesgardendbhost1 failed
MySQL Error: ()

Session halted.

I was trying to access this thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1088749/

I used my "back" button to get back to DG, then tried the link again and it worked.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

I just got the database error msg, same one others have indicated.

I was trying to make a post to this thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1089673/

My post did not go through. I was taken immediately to the page with the database error msg. I hit 'Send' again. This time the post went through as expected.

This happened about a minute ago. I came directly here to report it.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

The site was also very slow to respond when I clicked on the link to return to this thread (to check my post). Again this happened a minute or less ago.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks - that helps!

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

I got that same database error page when I was trying to post a photo to this thread:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1088288/#new

I immediately refreshed the page and it went through just fine.

I've been noticing a new behavior lately. For a while I ignored it, thinking maybe I had misinterpreted something. This time I paid more attention and found that the behavior is real.

I leave DG up in one or more browser window/tab pretty much all of the time. I'm using a MacBook Pro laptop and running the latest Firefox. I close the laptop (such that it takes a nap) when I'm not using it. When I return, and periodically while I am working, I bring up one of the browser windows with DG loaded. Often the DG home page is loaded. To update it and see if I have any new posts to read in my watch list, I click on the "Home" tab (even though I'm already on the Home page).

Normally, this works. I can verify that the page has updated by the time on the top/1st item in the list of Forums I'm watching. DG is sufficiently busy such that the time (of the most recent post for the top forum on that list) will almost always be close to the current time.

Recently, I've begun to notice that the page doesn't always update properly. I click the Home tab when the DG Home page is already loaded. The browser tab associated with that window says "Loading" for a minute or so, but when it stops "Loading" the page has not updated (as obviated by the fact that the time has not updated). It happened about 5 min ago. I clicked the Home tab again several times. Each time I saw the same "Loading" message on the browser tab for a minute or so, but the page did not update. Finally, I clicked on a different tab and then clicked back to the Home page. This caused the page to update properly.

just received this message at 6:53 PM central time. it took about 5 or 6 refreshes with some long pauses in between to get on.

Database error: connect to host davesgardendbhost1 failed
MySQL Error: ()

Session halted.

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

The system still shows (Korean Standard Time, GMT+9) as one hour ahead of what it actually is. Can you check to see if they have set us up with daylight savings time or something?

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Got same message as bloomheaven at the same time.

PERTH, Australia

Ditto. The photos in a thread were taking an increasingly long time to load up, then I received the same message as bloomheaven. I tried 5 times. I went to another thread, which loaded fine and returned to the original thread and the problem was resolved.

Click to go to central midwest and beginning gardening forums , wierd loading the pages and takes 4 to 5 tries before page loads with too much of an pause interval in-between, frustrating but will get my davesgarden fix tomorrow! ;0)

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Every morning,....every morning....I have to keep re-logging in. If I click on any other thread in a forum, once I'm logged in and reading, I find I'm redirected to the non-member page.

Faster this morning, however the page skips around so if I don't wait for the second or third skip then nothing happens when I click on "skip to new" Guess it gives a new meaning to "SKIP" ! LOL!

I don't know if this has already been reported, but the new posts are not being updated at the bottom of the home page. The time of the last posted post is listed Apr 29 at 11:23 PM. It seems that they are only plantfiles updates too.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Now they show April 30 & some weird time. Bad BUG!

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Twice now I was posting to a thread and got the following message:

Replying to a thread
Advanced Search

Database error: Invalid SQL: replace into t_ibSearch_queue set postid = '7749821', done = '0'
MySQL Error: 1146 (Table 'gardening.t_ibSearch_queue' doesn't exist)

Session halted.

The first time it was to a thread in the Cacti & Succulents forum, the second time it was to a thread in the Orchids forum (http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1092297/#new). Thank goodness both times the post went through in spite of the message!

Just had it happen again on the Cacti & Succulents forum: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1091554/

I have received the same error notice faeden but my posts are showing.

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Hang loose.

They are in the process of rolling out the new search engine and we've noted the glitches.

They are on the tech team's radar and they're looking into them.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

I am getting that same error message, but after composing a post, hitting send, the message shows up. I hit back and the post is there, and then I go back to the home page.

As long as the posts are going through, it is just a minor irritant.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

I had a very strange experience this morning. Upon awakening (around 10AM), I got out my laptop, opened the DG window, and clicked on the Home tab to update. After a brief pause, the page updated to show that 2 of my watched threads had new content.

I clicked on one of them, this one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1089241/
I was confused by what I saw as the 'new' posts it showed me were 2 which I had already read the night before. To add to my confusion, the post I had made the night before in response was not there. Trying to figure out where my post (of the night before had gone), I hit the browser's refresh button. Suddenly, the browser updated to show my missing post + a new post from someone else (a post which had been made around 4AM and which should have been visible on the page all along.

After reading the new post, I clicked the Home tab again. This time it showed I had new content on a different thread, one which had not shown up when I 1st clicked the Home tab (only about 5min earlier) - even though the new content had actually been added around 4AM.

To sum up (realizing my description above may be confusing), when I 1st clicked on the Home tab around 10AM this morning, one of the two watched threads on which new posts had been made overnight did not show up (in my watched threads list). When I clicked on the one watched thread that did show up, it appeared as it had last night. One of my posts was missing as was the new post which had been made overnight. I had to update the browser window to get the new content and my missing post to show up. Then when I clicked the Home tab a 2nd time the other watched thread (on which new posts had been made overnight) showed up.

Very strange behavior.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Also, although I've largely quit mentioning it, I've been experiencing significantly slow response time for about the past week when updating pages, clicking on the Home tab, and pretty much everything.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Have you timed the slowdowns? It would help to know how long they are lasting.

I think the phenomeon from last night was most likely due to the rollout of the new search engine (which is now up and running!) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1092874/

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Mostly, no, I haven't bothered to time them or note other specifics as they've been happening (this week) virtually all of the time, so lots of them. There was one occasion in the last 2 days in which I noted that 2 minutes had passed and the screen had still not updated. After that I lost interest - short attention span. sorry - and went to something else, returning later.

Right now things seem to be going faster, more as expected. If I note any more slow downs, I'll try to remember to capture more specific info as to date/time and duration and report that.

Good to hear about the new search engine. I look forward to trying it out. I had seen the thread in DG Forum this morning when I came here to report the problem noted above. I had actually wondered if that might have had anything to do with the strange behavior I was seeing.

Thanks for the info. I'll try to do better at gathering info if I note additional slowdowns.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

At 8:52 EDT I again got the database error screen. I had clicked the Home tab to update when this occurred. I clicked the back button and tried again. I repeated this 3 times getting the database error msg each time. On the 4th try, the screen updated correctly. The total time was under one minute.

I'm also still seeing a lot of sluggishness when I click on things. It's not in any one place but pretty much all over the site. The wait time each time has been less than a minute; however, even 30 seconds is an eternity in computer time.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Sluggish for me too, all over the site. Not too bad, but noticable.

Also the latest posts is showing PlantFiles entries for tomorrow at 3:16am.
