System Issues (Part III)

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

That issue with the latest posts showing PlantFiles entries with a future time seems to be a know problem, something that is on the list for the tech folks but which they've not yet fixed.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Strange to see a post with a time stamp before my latest PF image was released.

That PlantFiels date/time stamp issue is a known bug, and it's on the tech team's list of things to do ;o)

Here's a new on for you! I have my preferences set for 15pt type, and that works great for me. Just now, however, I went to the California Gardening forum and clicked on a thread, and when it came up it was in a much smaller typeface! Here's the thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1090117/

I clicked on other threads in that forum and they were fine. Weird, huh? I hope it misfires for you too so you can see what I mean.

Just got logged out again ~ 7:35 pm while in Hydroponics going from a thread to a photo in the same thread. Grrrr....

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

I just got the database error page again from 2:30 - 2:31 as I continued to try to access DG. After about a minute I was able to get back on. I also noticed a visible pause when attempting to open this thread (approx 2:32). All times EDT.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Same here... DST ~ central time of course.

Albuquerque, NM(Zone 7a)

Same here (MDT) but it lasted less than a minute and
I was able to get back on easily then.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Here's another one for you. I used to be able to write a post, include a link, preview it, and then when I clicked on the link in "preview" to make sure the link worked it would open in a new window. Now it opens in the same window, which means that there is no way I can check to make sure my link works without losing the whole post! AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I can ask the tech team to look at that.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

It doesn't make sense to even have a "preview" button if you can't double-check ALL of your post, does it? Hope they can figure this one out.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 8b)

In the mean time, before you click on PREVIEW, copy the entire post to your "clipboard".

I was viewing an older article about 3 gardeners just now. When I went to view the comment threads, each time I got an error message. It's working now and I forgot to write down the message, but it was a white box with DSQL or something like that and davesgarden Server not found. Don't know if this helps or not, but I got to the article by way of the newsletter from my email. I tried several different comment threads from that article with the same message. Once I got "here", and remembered I didn't write anything down, I tried recreating the "incident" and then, of course, it worked like a charm.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

I know how to do that, and do so when I find it necessary. However, when one expects a particular outcome based on past experience it's not something one thinks of doing.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

I understand that you want the problem fixed as apposed to a work around. Still, I thought I would point out that you should be able to get around the problem by changing to Firefox. I'm assuming that you are probably using IE.

With IE, I have the same problem you expressed. With Firefox, none of this matters. Firefox saves what you typed so that you can just use the back button to go back to the original screen and find everything still there. I love this feature of Firefox. Even on the rare occasion that the computer crashes or something happens to the browser window while I am in the process of typing a post, when Firefox comes back up (or I relaunch it) it will, amazingly, still have my post right there waiting for me to continue.

Again, I realize that you are seeking a fix not a work around. Still, I could not resist advertising this wonderful feature of Firefox.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I agree, don't use IE unless a certain website just won't work on Firefox.

Logan Lake, BC(Zone 3a)

I LOVE FIREFOX! I used to have so much trouble with freezing and slow loading but since I changed it's been great!!!;~D

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

I can remember when Dave suggested everyone change to Firefox. I did then, but didn't know it doesn't have all the problems IE has.

I am wondering how long we have to put up with the "Bug" that is in latest threads every night. It's getting very annoying.

Here's another problem I just noticed. Down below my favorite forums is an area called "Latest posts on DG." That area hasn't updated since about 7:30pm PDT LAST NIGHT! It should constantly be updating as we post to the threads.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

That's what I am talking about. Right now showing last post, May 3, 11:48 PM.

SF Bay Area, CA(Zone 9b)

Sorry - I didn't understand that it was the same problem. Thanks for letting me know.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

faeden,

That's a known bug that Terry and melody have already reported to the tech team.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

glad I'm not the only one that "bug" is bugging!!!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

oops - wrong thread!

Just got that database error again repeatedly (for under a minute) at 2:51PM EDT.

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I got it too. :((

Phoenix, AZ

I haven't checked in for a while, but reading down the posts, I see that several people have noted the slowness of the site. For days now, DG has been slower than molasses in January - in Minnesota. It seems to take forever for a thread to load. And I had the weird experience today of opening a thread only to have it jump up and down the page! And it still sometimes takes me to the end of the posts instead of where I left off the last time. I have to scroll back up if I want to see what I missed.

Phoenix, AZ

OK, about the time: It shows my post was made at 5:24 p.m. Arizona is never on DST and my time now is 4:25 p.m. Is there a fix for that?

Logan Lake, BC(Zone 3a)

I agree the site has been very slow loading.

Montgomery, TX(Zone 9a)

I agree very slow.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Still slow here too.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Ditto on slow.

I've seen that strange behavior where the thread jumps up and down the page when opened, too, several times. Sometimes it jumps around before I 'get control of the cursor'. The other day, I had just arrived at the new post when the page suddenly jumped up somewhere else in the thread and then back down again a second or so later.

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Tomatofreak, the site has been having 'troubles' with DST for a while. My time has been off for an hour for quite a while now... They are working on it.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Aha ~ but AZ doesn't have to endure DST. Possible the time changed for the rest of the country and AZ too? Spring ahead, you know? You should be able to change the time on your page maybe.

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

We can only change our time to the correct time by changing our time zone to an incorrect one... Korea doesn't have DST either.

Marlton, NJ

I'm experiencing slowness when getting from any forum back to the Home Page. I'll let you know if it changes.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I'm also getting timed out messages when something is slow to load.

Also, I've gotten this message several times in the last few days when trying to navigate the PlantFile pictures forum. Just this message in the upper left corner of a blank white screen.

Quoting:
Database error: connect to host davesgardendbhost1 failed
MySQL Error: ()
Session halted.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Joan, is it mainly when you're running a search, or trying to pull up a page from search results?

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

No, it has nothing to do with searching.

When I'm running through the PlantFile photos on that forum, I look for any with comments to try and pick up any potential errors that weren't brought to the helpdesk. It's when I click on the photo discussion link off of the forum that I'm getting that error.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Teh next time it happens, please note the time it occurred, then back up and try it again. If it times out a second time, give us the link.

Freedom, CA(Zone 9b)

I have seen that same message. I will make a note of the circumstances if I see it again. For a moment, I thought the site had suddenly gone down.
