Can you guys figure out how to keep this message board on your watched site? On my home page it shows 13 sites you are watching....but this one never appears unless someone has made a response after me. I have done the same as JBerger and lost the site completely. I have finally figured out in General Discussion, yadda yadda yadda and can get here.
fotv, I am reluctant to ask but I saw you post about missing drapelady, and it made me think I hadn't seen a post in awhile......so I am guessing it isn't good.......
Rain and rain and rain......sigh! No planting for me. Guess I will be weeding between clamps of thunder....right...
Has anyone sent you guys the cool pictures of the volcano and the lightening? OMG they are beautiful!
Shes about too... #49
Did you click on the watch this thread?
Linda Kay, I checked and the only thing that is available is "unwatch" so that makes me think I have it "watched" checked...., and it always lets me know when someone has posted, but doesn't stay in that bottom list on my home page. I figured out the way I lose it, is someone posts, I go to read, then have to jump out and then, if I want to go back I have to start all over and go to communities....and yadda.... LOL.
I didn't know if anyone else had that problem or not.
Yep, your right, if you make a post, and no one post after that, it will not show up, until someone makes a new post.
So if you want to make a post again, you will have to go to the top, click on my info, then on threads I'm watching. Scroll down and you will find it.
She's about to....rain for two days off and on. I worked outside most of the day to take advantage of the weather and it was actually chilly enough to wear a sweater. Got a few clean-up chores done, moved tenders back out (please be the last dang time), planted a few new perennials, and repotted a bunch of houseplants. I noticed about a dozen Caladiums are up and all my Hostas came back except 3, I think. Check this out, one of the plants I bought Wednesday is named "Tutti Fruiti" Agastache. happ, somebody I'm trading with has asked me to root a few of my Agastaches for them since most of them aren't large enough to divide yet. Do you want me to do the same for you? A couple of the Blackberry Lily seeds from you in one of the Robins are up along with a bunch of D/L seeds from trades. "Pink China" EE is already putting out new leaves. All the ones your shared are doing so well.
My neighbor's glowing Peony.....
you can also mark as unread to keep it on the top.. I don't, but you can...there are so many maple and elm tree seeds flying around it is piling up like snow here. ugh!
I am on vacation.. what have I done today? Clean the basement.. set it up for an inside growing nursery and tropical atrium.. that is what I did today, sides the dishes laundry, sweeping etc.
wish I had peonys blooming, I only have one I just planted it so won't see anything until next year I guess.. ( bare root)
As I sit here and look out my window to the patio in back I see tree seeds whirling all around..
Too funny Fruity. I bought a Tutti Fruiti Agastache on Tuesday. Just planted it today. I had one before and it didn't do much. Not enough light where I put it. Hopefully this one is in a better spot.
Great minds think alike...LOL Bought mine Wednesday and planted it today too. Are we in the Twilight Zone or what?
I had one last year, I havn't checked to see if it came back. I did not try to save it. It didn't impress me enough. Might have been the location. What impressed me was my Anthony Parker salvia. Now he kicked the heck out of showing off!
Yes... mine is four years old, it is just about too..I collect them.. my hotlips wintered over inside as well as the mexicalli and the anthonyparker and the splendins I had in containers. My Cardona is about to also.. so is snow nymph she is over taking the area.. the rosequeens are budded also, and all the B&Bs, and the Omaha Golds are up. Edited because I twpe too fast. hmmm type yeal thats it.

fotv, you know me I can't turn down a plant unless it is a major thug and then I plant them by our driveway which is about a 1/4 mile long....LOL "happ, somebody I'm trading with has asked me to root a few of my Agastaches for them since most of them aren't large enough to divide yet. Do you want me to do the same for you?"
" A couple of the Blackberry Lily seeds from you in one of the Robins are up", if you have never had these before they "walk" around the garden. I like them but wish they would stay put....LOL "Pink China" EE is already putting out new leaves". Glad they are doing good. I need to look and figure out those two black ee's and figure out who is who. I know I have the tag unless the dog ate it which is a real possiblity. I will do that today and figure out the mystery....LOL I love my ee's. I have a huge upright ee that I bought at a garden show. The bulb must of weighed 10 lbs. I will see if I can get a start off of it and send to you if you want it.
Just taking a quick break then have to try to finish mowing before the rain gets here. happ, will do and yes ma'am, purdy please. Yowzer, a 10 lb bulb!
I bought a Blackberry Lily last year but it only set 3 seeds, and Susie gave me a Candy Lily, both are behaving and haven't "walked" too far yet...lol
What a day having to make two trips to town, 16 miles each way. The first one to Lowe's early this morning was for potting soil and of course I had to noodle around in the Garden Center but didn't buy any plants, and the second one this afternoon was to pick up a new lawn mower belt since one of ours slung off right in the middle of mowing. My acre and half of grass is still half mowed and it's raining now, probably will be til Monday. Geez....I bought two of those same belts last year. The nice guy who waited on me said I should check the pulleys....yeah right, l know what pulleys are but wouldn't have a clue how to adjust them. He even had to cross-reference his book since our rider is a 1999 Troy Bilt and the parts numbers changed last year. Can't wait for a break in the weather and Hubby makes the adjustments & threads on the new belt so I can finish mowing. Oh, then I ran to Wally World to pick up an Rx for him I'd dropped off Tuesday...can you believe it still wasn't ready? So I waited. While standing in line, my girlfriend called and said she'd won a gift at Lowe's and would I please pick it up and bring it to her. I'd planned to visit her anyway after I finished mowing so I could see her new revamped gardens, which by the way look great. Her Earth Day gifts from Lowe's included a 5 gallon paint pail, new paint pan with two rollers and a brush, a dropcloth, a really nice stainless steel travel mug, a huge roll of 200 industrial paper towels made from re-cycled fibers, and a Gift Certificate for a gallon of Olympic primer and a gallon of paint in her choice of color. She's a painting fool and is happy as a clam with her gifts. Meanwhile, I'll be watching the grass.
We got your rain also, after we just mowed the back lawn. I hand clip the edges so DH does'nt mow anything.. here is the back yard right now.. DH just bringing in a bbq's lamb burger,, Before that, I had undone a nice box ot tres from juanita. and they are planted in the little woodland area I have going on, can't tell her how much that surprised me. went to sons' lake side place and saw all the native wildflower seeds had come up and some are blooming, the white yarrow, the yellow yarrow, the milkweed gold, I found an apple gourd from a vine I planted from seed last year, LOL
He has cones and rudbekias and cleomes and morning glories, honey suckle , brides wreath, and we planted a row of all my different kinds of monardas, along with some obedient plant that hasn't been quite so obedient. I planted a huge hanging basket of Huge two toned pink petunias with white ones in the center, and a pot of white petunia with blue lobelia, Have three heucheras to put in to the front behind the fir tree, two are dark and one is light coppery gold. had to take clippings from the back of the dark leafed weigelia and so I made starts of them all around. good day today all in all.
Think tomorrow I will try smoking salmon on the grill....never done it but can't be too hard.
Still raining, enough already......save some for when it gets hot....saying rain tomorrow and Monday, dropping down into the low 40's. This is when the covered porch comes in handy.
fotv, your friend won some good stuff! The olympic stuff isn't cheap....I have a hardware store about 2 miles from the house, but if you are going to buy much I need to drive about 30 miles each way....mulch in the city I live in is 5.99 for 2 cu feet....talk about taking your back pocket, I guess if you only need one you would be ok...but darn otherwise I am traveling down the road!
I think that is a great pressie also, FOTV, I do however have a gripe about Bagged potting soils, top soils and mulches too expensive.. they should have huge piles of it from land fills and road work areas for people to go get at their liking.. that is just my opinion.. I keep turning my compost pile until it is ready for the big brown leaf bag holder thingy.
If anyone wants any violet corms or Monardas let me know. I have to thin them out. Cold grey and windy and rainey here for the next week it is predicted.
Mike, Paulas' hubby, ( my sons aunt) is in hospital, he went in for an annual heart stress test and they kept him he is having quadruple bypass tommorrow. My litle brother in delaware that I just reunited with three years ago after ten years just got home from a pancreas and liver disease scare. they are both only 50. Please say prayers for anyone in ill health with me.
LK hope you like the coffee, I am drinking some now.
Will be thinking of you and your Family, Debra. It hasn't been a good week for a lot of our friends and families.
The tree people have been clearing power lines in our neighborhood so when they stopped in front of our house to collect their 'men at work' sign, I asked what they do with the mulch? The guy said 'where do you want it' LOL I felt like a kid at Christmas. Look at this *free* dump truck load that will soon turn to black gold.
Prayers and cyber hugs to all those in the states where the storms were just devastating. JB
Amen to that JB..
Hey Debra, had the coffee this morning. It is very good! Thanks so much.
Sure hope your all safe and out of harm from the storms!
Look at all those nice mulch piles. You got lucky on that one!
Boy everyone has piles of gold getting ready to form.....
Debra, I thought you had a great idea. Wish I had the time to appoarch the city about starting a mulching site. Course it is almost impossible to get volunteers but if you had master gardeners or boy scouts, you could collect tree mulch, grass clippings, and leaves and you could make it free to people. Like you said potting soil is so expensive.
It is sooo cold here and wet! The sun is come out for about an hour, but no heat! I brought in all the annual pots I bought at sutherlands can't afford to lose those they were too cheap! LOL
I started a new growing area downstairs last night. We are getting down to 37 tonite, but I told my hubby no sheets, no trips to save everythng will get cold but they will perk up at sunrise and as the day warms up. In one cardboard box I took a cheap plastic draw string Laundry bag from dollar tree, put box inside and drew the string after tamping it down, poked a few holes for draininnage, filled it up with potting mix, planted beets, lettuce, radishes, spanish onions, dill, spoon tomatoes, carrots, and more beans. Salad in a box zi call it. Planted russets out under the edge of the compost pile out in the alley, they are all up and growing. This up and down temps are good for salvias and penstamons to germinate, they like that sorta thing. I have alot up and going outside, and i can't wait to see some blooms. Iochromas and lantanas and I. carneas are really leafing out.
Here is wild thing...
No frost but I brought in everything now I will take them back out.....sigh
Anyone have an idea what lives in this hole? A friend of mine has about 6 of these holes in her yard. No signs of tunnels, lives in an housing addition, and uses a lawn company so uses lots of chemicals.....so what is your best guess? Picture isn't great, but you will get the jest.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1091520/
Free dahlias up for grabs, for postage! He does this every year.
Joyce that hole could be for some kind of spider. I have em here. They burrow in uder the mulch or grass. Sometime you can see them sitting there outside the hole, but if you get close they skitter back in.
That is a pretty big hole for a spider! Maybe a rodent or something?
How big is that hole?
I don't know since she lives about 50 miles from me. She was telling me about these holes one day at lunch then someone posted the picture of the spider and the hole and I emailed her to see if the hole looked like that, but these holes are really clean and round, she sent me about 6 different pictures of 6 different holes and they all look the same, almost perfectly round and clean. I mean I live in the middle of no where but haven't seen holes like these....she has never seen anything go in and out and she mows her grass probably 2 times a week since it has been raining. So it isn't tall grass....you would think you would see something.
Anyone have a good idea what forum I might post the picture on?
Since you're in the Midwest, it can't be a Hermit Crab...lol I thought it looked like a Spider hole too. Bees live underground too. Can you ask you friend how big the hole is and if she ever sees deposits of Earth behind it? Judging from the blades of grass, it looks to be about 1" diameter.
Yeah, we are having climate change, but the Hermit Crabs probably haven't wobbled all this way yet....LOL
I talked to her today and she asked a lawn guy, he suggested it could be voles? He is bringing her something to stick in the hole. She said if it were snakes she is moving! LOL She said she is now afraid to get too close....rofl.
looks like a small rodent hole.. moles mound in trails, gophers hill, rats and mice live in holes, but usually near some kind of building or cover, snakes like to live in holes, but they are usually near a log, lqarge rock or brush, look for droppings or remants of food it feeds on, kind of hard to see how big it is.. that was me that posted the spder hole, it was about three inches round.. ( the hole)
this momma was in a 3 inch hole beside my back steps, she didn't know I was there with my camera watching to see what was living in that hole. ( we caught her and all 8 of her off spring and the dad that fall.. this was last May.)
Lizards, and horned toads also live in holes.

Come and check out the fun with a plant swap.
I am sure someone has tried this, but has anyone used crayon on blind cuttings for plant tags and will that work?
I tried it here, and in this heat, it melts off real quick! A #2 Pencil works pretty good. Even the so called permanent marker will fade in one season.
I was reading about a pigma micron pen. It is actually for artist, "Unlike dye-based ink found in most pens and markers, Pigma ink will not feather or bleed, even through the thinnest paper. Pigma ink is derived from a single pigment to ensure color consistency, and is fadeproof against sunlight or UV light. Pigma inks will not clog or dry out like most mechanical pens". I am going to pick some up and walmart and will see how they do. From what I read they are the only nonfading pen. Worth a shot. I also think I will pick up some plastic shims from home depot and use my ingraver, I know they will last unless the dog eats them....so far the only thing I have found is aluminum strips I can engrave on, but they are a pain....I want something simple .....
Didn't think about crayons melting...I didn't figure I could have found something someone hadn't already tried.....oh well.....
I had candles in these candle things along my walk and one year it got so hot outside they melted....LOL
I use a P-touch label maker and affix the labels on strips of cut-up vinyl mini-blinds. Here's one I made last year and it still looks brand new. It's the Sun's UV rays I think that fade Sharpies. Industrial Paint Markers like the automotive industry uses take extremely high heat and don't fade. Since I'm married to a motorhead, we just happen to have extra Black ones I'll be glad to send you if you'd like to try those. They're not fine point but more like a fat Sharpie. Shake, jab jab jab the point, and the paint comes out.
The rain, and elements don't make the lable come off? That is really nice, where do you get the label maker?
I took a blind out of the neighbors garbage a few weeks ago, now to get it cut up, and ready for lables.
