Shes about too... #49

Congrats on being a new Mom, Debra :) Here's the average size of a clump of ferns. After digging I clip last year's spent fronds, rinse the roots, and set them on newspapers overnight to drain the excess moisture before mailing the next day. Even after that, the clumps are still fairly heavy and it's darn near impossible to rinse all of our wonderful red clay out. I'm thinking the best way to go is a Large or Medium Flat Rate box and I pack those suckers full. Just depends on how many you'd like to have. I dug and mailed 70 last year! This clump went to my SIL in DWF earlier this month and she told me last week it is already putting out new fronds and fiddleheads.

happ, dang I could have sent you some Creeping Jenny, it's really cool draping down the sides of pots. WOW...you had a fabulous time. Christmas Fern fronds die in Winter and start coming back late February or early March. I'll send you a box too, let me know how many clumps you'd like. Back to your question about other perennials since you're looking like a D/L farm...LOL What about Asters, Mums, Cranesbill (hardy Geranium), Verbena, Black-Eyed Susan's, Heleniums, Chocolate Joe Pye Weed, Butterfly Bushes, and Bee Balm? Also Agastache / Hyssop, I absolutely love these plants! Any of those should do well for you and are mid-to-late Summer bloomers. Can't help with shrubs since I'm not much into them either. I say that just after I bought 2 Loropetalums this week... LOL Our MG graduation is Wednesday AT a commercial greenhouse and we're warming up, tonight back down in the 30's but after that it looks like clear sailing. Ya'll know that just spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

Our washer hose exploded all over the place and it rained downstairs today so now the washer is pulled out against the back door waiting for the Plumber ( again) and I have to go out the front to go around to the back.. sheese!

Sorry I forgot to attach the pic. Postage will depend on how many clumps you'd like to have, Debra. I'll use my digital scales so you're not overcharged. OR if you want to send a few bags of coffee that's just as good. Whatever you think is OK with me.

Quote from Debra
Who sent me "My first white" and "Yardsale" Yellow? they are repotted and getting very nice leaves on them..

Hello Debra, I did send "My First White" "Yard Sale Yellow" and "Day Dreams". I am so glad they are growing for you. I will be so glad when I can plant my new one's in the ground, but most of all, I will be so glad to see mine coming back from last year. This year from my cuttings, I rooted 3 different colors together. I am anxious to see my "3-in-one plant" bloom. I did this with 3 different sets of cuttings.
Love and hugs
Faye

I'll be glad to, tubby. In the meantime, how about a bunch of BIG Happy Birthday Wishes on your special day today!

FOTV, that pic looks like my hair first thing in the morning....rofl.... that is quite a mess of roots. If it isn't too much trouble I would like to have some roots...LOL Like your suggestions on plants. I just discovered Agastache / Hyssop and they are beautiful. Haven't purchased any yet. Master Gardeners and greenhouses are a wonderful combination for the greenhouse owner....rofl....! ;D

Debra, I should of had you meet us, I just didn't even think about it. One year Bonnie met me down there. That was the first time we ever saw each other. I met a girl down at Arnolds and I had picked up a brug (before I knew what they were asking) and she got interested and picked one up then I found out they wanted $25.00! She was so nice and I told her about Daves, and my email address. When I get my burgs trimed I am going to send her one, when I send out to everyone else. So we may have another brug crazy....LOL Need to get the brugs outside and get rose stuff on them. Your fish should be fine. Do you have a pump like a fountain or something, waterfall? It adds oxygen to the water. My pond right now is green and awful. I need to clean it which is what I was going to do today until I went to work instead. Gold fish and Koi are very hardy. Just don't over feed them while the temps are cool. I don't feed the Koi all winter, their bodies go into slow motion and they can't digest food. If your pond is not real deep the water should be warm enough you shouldn't have a problem, but just keep that in the back of your mind.

Dang have to start getting ready for work......ughhhh!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Do the hybrid loniceras's smell as wonderful as all of them?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

nope, they just look good.. LOL

I have the old fashioned gold and white on the front porch corner with the trailing red roses. Now those smell good.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I had this open for the week end! It gets darker everyday. it started out mostly yellow with dark pink edges, and look at her now. I don't know the name, but I bought it at wal mart for $5.00! It smells so nice!

oh that is beautiful!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Good Morning!

You guys have been busy last night. A word of caution about the creeping jenny though. Just be sure you keep it in pots. I had a client who thought it would be fun to just plant it in the ground. Been pulling it out for several years now and I am convinced that a nuclear winter wouldn't kill that stuff. :0)

Gorgeous rose LK. I want some honeysuckle....Used to have some here but the trees have shaded it now that it doesn't bloom. Wouldn't mind it wrapping itself around everything if it bloomed and smelled good.

Oh well off the mulch pile. Have 10 yards to put down today at aforementioned client's house. My partner seems to think we can do it all in one day. Obviously he has me confused with someone much younger.

Goodness, that is a lot of mulch! Don't work too hard!
I too would love some hiney suckle. Please send some tis way, if any of you have extra! I will be more than happy to pay for postage!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

We made it. Only needed 9 yards. :)) Then finished washing a deck for someone else. I think I am about done for the week now. Oh yeah it's Monday.....Yippee. :(

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

"that pic looks like my hair first thing in the morning...rofl" You crack me up, happ.

She's stunning, LK!

Only 9 yards? You sure your middle name isn't Monday Mulch? My day was shot when my MIL showed up.
This is the only pic I could find of Creeping Jenny last year, not a very good one, but the stuff did get much longer and made a thick mat. It's baacck. And a good thing you mentioned to keep it in pots, I was toying with the idea of planting it amongst Hostas.

Here I come to save the day!!!!!!
NO....NOO........NO......Don't do it... Phew. Maybe I saved you. Trust me on this one.. You do NOT want this stuff loose anywhere in your garden or yard. I've seen it crawl all through a yard and choke out the grass.

Off to collapse somewhere in a big heap.

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes you did. Have a soft landing.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Can someone tell me what this is? I know it is an iris, but just wondering what kind it is, or if it has a name? I got them in one of the many swaps last year, and not knowing what to do with them, I stuck them in an extra tub I had. I got three of the fans, and now there are at least 6 seperate plants coming up. This is the first to bloom. I was so surprised to see the yellow in the middle, and all the pretty fuzzy stuff too! So pretty. This is my first iris, and I just may look for more next year. So sorry, I don't remember who I got them from.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I have no clue on the iris.. but it is purty.. I got some too last fall at swap meet, and I will have some blooms soon.. as for creeping Jenny, I love it and I have three colours of it everywhere, I just yank and compost, pull and move it, DH mows it, I love it. as long as I can pull it out, I am good..
same with my honey suckles.. If ya all want honey suckles, best time to plant is fall, so let me know so I can start rooting for you. I have these kinds:
John Clayton
Major wheeler
Blanche Sandman
Mandarin
Gold Flame
Old Fashioned Gold and White ( smells yummy)

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debra, I would love to have som eof the old fashioned gold and white please? Bet the hummers would love it?

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I know creeping jenny is bad, I just want to use it in pots. I have planted 3 garden bulleys (as usual can't remember their names) and have to keep weed killer on them and still can't get rid of them.....

FOTV, are you the one with a fairy garden? Home Depot has some of the coolest small ground covers. I just love touching them, I can't remember the names.

Someone put creeping jenny in the city planter that I am going to plant my stuff in and I noticed tonight it is coming back in there also.

Tonight the mg's got together to do a project. I think I told you all that we have a real variety of people as far as how we garden and our interest. You should see us all working together....LOL and everyone has an opinoin the chemical free, doesn't agree with chemical man, herb person wants herbs, native garden wants all natives, flower person wants flower, grass person and so on and so on holy moley! ....LOL....

taters that is a beautiful iris. I have never seen it before so I can't help.

LOL joyce.. I would be the Native person.. grab me some Native plants would ya??
Lindakay, the oldfashioned is the easiest and I already have some rooted and growing.. if it isn't too hot there you can drop it into the ground with some violets or creeping jenny over the base of it ( I use creeping sedums, violets, and creeping daiseys as well)
see the little seedling in between the iris? what do you think that is? You know how crazy I get about throwing down seeds.. ut ohhs!! LOL it is so cute!

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Looks like a little brug?
Do you have any extra creepy jenny? I have a tiki pot, that is about 18 inches tall, and I think that would look cool, planted in there, for some kind of crazy looking hair?
Let me know when you get ready to ship the honeysuckle out, so I can send you postage!
Thanks

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Geez LK.. wish I had known you wanted some creeping jenny before I excavated it again yesterday. for a client.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Never knew about it before yesterday, when you all talked about it! Sorry!
Just goes to prove we learn something new everyday! Thanks to DG!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Linda Kay, I am sure later after this gets to growing I will have extra......and I will gladly send you some of it, but that won't help with your pots now, it would be great as hair....you know the other thing I love in photos is that silver falls or something like that, but I rarely see it for sale and when I do it is really expensive. Course in my windy area it would look alot like those roots that FOTV posted.....

I want to put things outside but am so afraid if I do it will get to darn cold....this Missouri weather until about May 15 is soooo unstable. Some of the pots are so darn heavy I hate to have to drag them around too much.

rvnsbrk, had to laugh, you are the only one I know who looks forward to Mondays....rofl....glad you are getting to rest. Sounds like you had a really busy time.....

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

You might be thinking of Elf and her GD Goober with the Fairy Garden.

Your honeysuckle pic with the spider is adorable.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

You are right, that is who it is. When we went to Arnolds they had a whole plot planted with small ground covers and little elves....they wouldn't stand a snowball chance at my house with big black foot dog, 2 basset's with huge feet, and the wire terrier. What one didn't sprinkle the other would chew, and what wasn't chewed would be stomped to death....LOL Gotta be rugged at my house....

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debra, make sure that spider stays at your place. I have enough of them here. Maybe we could swap spiders, some of my tarantulas for that little one! LOL!

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Tarantula?!?!???? EEEEEKKKKKKK!!! Guess that's why I couldn't live in Texas. That about sums it up.

Too funny Joyce. I hate Monday.. You didn't see my little frowny face. ;))

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

rvnsbrk, saw the frowny face, can you be dyslexia in pictures?.rofl....whew I was worried about you, now I am worried about me....LOL

Linda Kay, you got all those fun things, scorpins, fire ants, rattlesnakes......and warm weather.....

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Too funny Joyce!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

yep, we got all those things! Want some?

Blue Ridge Mtns, VA(Zone 7a)

No thanks, LK. And your HOT weather this Summer. Do you have Armadillos too?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Lots of them!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

spider? I didn't see a spider? LOL
course, I love them, they eat bad bugs. where did you see a spider?
just got hoome from college girls' honour award event, she is making us so proud, our late baby girl has shone like the sun. I can't believe she is 21. *sigh*
All her friends thought we were her granparents. bleah.

Congrats Debra on your sunshine girl, you should be very proud!
All kids think we are old....LOL my poor step-son was 40 before his daughter was born, and has white hair like his Dad already, so everyone is really going to think he is the Grandpa....LOL
