sorry to say I'm not in bed yet. I should be chastised - I drank a dietcoke at the movie, and I KNOW better - despite a whole Tylenol pm, no sleep yet, but I"m getting there.

Randall and I worked hard to get these to download from the graphic card. Faith's and Hope's Christmas -

omy goodness - what a Christmas morning you had, and What a Cookie-Gedon! Oven on fire???????? You have a lovely large kitchen, too - just perfect for cookie baking lol
I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, however it was spent.
What's everyone's plans for New Year's Eve/Day?

I spent my day baking yesterday, and this morning I had the turkey in the oven at 7:35. It was originally ready at 7:20, but then I realized I'd stuffed the turkey without any onions in the stuffing..........lol So, leave the turkey in the pan, unstuff it, and chop onions, mix into the stuffing and re-stuff LOL
It'll take 9 hours to cook this 28 lb turkey!
Yesterday I baked pumpkin pie, butter tarts (2 kinds - one with honey and one without honey but with vinegar. Yes, I said vinegar - never had them before, but very good), mincemeat tarts, pumpkin tarts and today I'll do whipped shortbread.
Company comes at 4pm, for a 5pm dinner.
You may think this odd, but I enjoyed yesterday, even with the cleaning inbetween the baking, it was relaxing. Didn't hurt to have a bit of a 'spiked eggnog' either lol

Tomorrow I'll see if I can "roll" to the church after today's dinner LOL I expect I'll fall asleep on my company after I get so stuffed myself ^_^

Oh, Linda, you made my day. I was laughing so hard the dog thought something was wrong with me. I loved the whole thing and am going to keep it for when I need a good laugh.

Have a Happy, safe, and refreshing Holiday.

Happy Boxing Day ladies!

Bon, Amen to reminding us what the essence of Christmas is all about.
Cindy, that's a hoot!!!! I'll have to pass that on to my 'testerone' man-friends!!

What a Christmas show at your house, Bonnie! Santa must have known not to wait for Faith and Hope to open up their pressies. They'll be after his sack.
Now .. the big question... who did the cleaning up?

I envy your company Susan. Wish I'm there to partake of that turkey and all the tarts. "Roll" will be a common verb here too!

We had a wonderful Christmas lunch at PILs. Grilled rib eye steaks and chicken with a side of green salad.
Then for supper, we had roast goose, dumplings, sour kraut and home made by this German proprietess, apple strudels. Hmm.. libations... just coffee!!!
It rained all day yesterday, but didn't dampen our spirits.

Well, we're off to catch some light sales, pick up food for the furbabies and maybe to the bookstore if the cell phone don't ring.
FIL said he 'thinks' he won't have an episode. He has taken his shot on Christmas eve to bring up his platelets count. So, that might help him some.

See you later ladies.
Coffee with a hint of Kahlua on the sideboard, and help yourself to cheesecake with crushed candy cane on top, after all it's Christmas still!

Good Morning Everyone!!
Bonnie great story up before your crazy morning! LOL Love the animals going after their presents!
LOL Cindy, that's way cute!

Jaye so glad you had a wonderful lunch!

Let's see, we got a $50.00 gift certificate from my mom and Lynn to Olive Garden, $20.00 gift certificate to Chili's from Dave's childhood friend Greg and his wife, I got Dave a trailer ramp kit, he got me a Burr Coffee Grinder, and I bought us a kit for the Wii that has the steering wheel, tennis racket, golf club, and baseball bat, plus a NASCAR Cart racing game. We still haven't received our gifts from my dad and his girlfriend, not sure what's going on with that because they mailed them from Joplin Missouri 9 days ago and it only takes 3 days to get mail back and forth, but Dad said he's going to go to the PO today (It'll be Monday) and see what's going on.

Yesterday we went to Dave's Aunt Eller's house, sat and watched TV and had some good laughs. Dave's dad and step-mom heater went out in their house (they just live 2 blocks from Eller,) so Dave's step-mom was at Eller's and his dad went to work. We stayed there for probably 3 hours then came back home. Every time I go over there I feel like I'm entering a whole new demention of the world LOL

Looook what I got done yesterday!

Indeed Happy Boxing day all!! Susan your baking has my mouth watering---tarts!!!!! My weakness for sure--love those things!!!

I has a wonderful albeit damp Christmas day but it didn't dampen out spirits. Only bad thing was Kim had food poisoning and was unable to share the day with us--had her on private party. The GD's were busy with the goodies but more excited that Santa's elves had put out landing lights in their yard so Santa didn't land on some of their toys and plants. Clever elves!! I prepared a standing rib roast with twice baked potatoes, green beans, salad and rolls. My oldest GD was joking when she said she loved roast beef!!!!

With the economy being what it is this past year, my son and his family got very creative with gifts and I must confess I love it so much better. I got a book of certificates good for odd jobs around my house for the year from my son. Oh how I am going to enjoy those!!! Daughter added to my "quilting habit" with some long wished for books and jelly rolls.

Everyone sounds like they had a wonderful, blessed day. Bonnie it is so good to put a face with your name now--thanks for the lovely pictures and sharing your day with all of us.

Jaye, hope you find some real bargains out there today. Crissy love the snowman!!!!!!!!

Raleigh, NC

Oh Crissy - crafty on Christmas Day! LOL

Ah, there's still fun here. Such a lovely day to snuggle in bed! Still greywhite skies out. We were very lazy about getting up^_^ Nothing planned for today. Except, maybe.....

Now the best working frig has developed a freeze up problem. We've experienced this problem with the older frig, when the water line dispensing chilled water freezes up, splits, and leaks into the freezer section insulation. no filtered water, and everything in the refrigerator section starts freezing. Great for meat, bad for lettuce and celery. That's our filtered water source, so want to go today for a Brita filter pitcher. I cringed when I had to drink our unfiltered well water with my pills.

Thanks Susan for the compliment! I sometimes forget my kitchen looks big to others. It's actually very small. Typical of split foyer homes built in the early '70s, the bare minimum kitchen of that era, with old style cabinets I have to get down on my hands and knees to look into. Someone took down the wall between the kitchen (which would have had room for a small breakfast table) and the formal dining room, then quit. There's a lot of empty space. Which I've filled with metal racks, folding tables and junk. Randall was against the diningroom far wall to take that photo. Really makes the kitchen look deep.

My last kitchen was huge, more like BJ's kitchen, with under cabinet lights, huge double ovens, yards of granite countertops and giant tiered lazy susans in the lower cabinet corners. And a walk-in pantry, with open well-lit shelves, the size of this kitchen! Awesome for cookies - that's how Cookie Geddon got started, I had all the room in the world for five cooks to bake together!

Darn I miss those lazy susans! I'm so tired of getting down on all fours to find a pot to cook in! To give you an idea, less than one fourth of my cooking paraphenalia will fit in this kitchen. Hence all those metal shelves. Those folding tables are the ones I've been slowly buying for setting up at the farmers' markets to sell irises.

Hello everyone! Sounds like you all had a great Christmas day! We got back from San Antonio, about an hour ago, still have to unpack the suitcase, but had to make coffee, and check in here first! Santa was very good to the Grandsons, and now we are getting ready for a 2nd Christmas when my Grandaughter shows up on Wed.!
It is very nice to see Lisa, and Janice pop in, don't be such strangers, we would love to hear more from you.
Guess I need to read the other threads, and unpack.
Take care.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Bon - you found out my secret - I'm a lazy susan, f'sure LOL Y'know........ it takes fewer muscles to smile than to frown, and it's obvious I'm lazy, cuz I love to smile LOL
Also, when you have a home that's 873 sq ft, your kitchen looks enormous LOL (mind you I have a built-on room that's 24x16, but I'm no good with math and can't calculate the additional sq footage lol)

I forgot to mention one non-bake treat I made yesterday, and only those who've visited Canada may know what they are - Nanaimo Bars......... yummmmmmmy
There's a chocolate cake (with butter) & walnut base, creamy filling (with butter), and a thin chocolate & butter topping poured on. It's chilled between each layer, and cut into squares. Very tasty. Lots of butter, though, so don't know who could handle all the butter and chocolate ^_^

I hope everyone had a great Christmas!

Jaye, Happy Boxing Day! I always loved the idea of boxing day. Not many places that will take used items and give them to those who need them anymore.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Day after Christmas and I would like to stay in bed where it is nice and cozy. Our weather is really nice, stays in the 60's and lots of sunshine. I made a couple of resolutions for the new year, first one is to get busy and paint my kitchen. I would love to have new cupboards but that isn't going to happen so a new coat of paint may make them look better to me. ^_^ As long as I get one job accomplished I'll feel like I did a major overhaul. Another resolution is to eat more healhy foods, wonder how long I can stay away from all the sweets I always crave.

I got a $50 gift certificate from my sister for Target and $50 from my son for Wal-Mart, so soon I'll have a nice shopping day. But, I still look forward to my weekly trip on Monday to the thrift store. Amazing what some people give away and I envy the ones who can clean out their cupboards and give what they don't use to Goodwill, etc. I always think I need everything, and then sometimes add to it from what I find at the thrift stores.

DH says electricity is going up next year so could I cut his hair today. After all these years I haven't got enough experience to consider myself a barber. LOL Hasn't got that much left to cut anyway.

Dellroy, OH(Zone 6b)

Good afternoon ladies....looks like you all had a great Christmas. I like coming in here and reading....just about the time I am feeling blue, one of you posts a joke or a funny story....and the joyous spirit you all spread can be felt through the companionship you all share......great group here! I like it.

So what funny stuff is every one planning for this coming week to get ready for New Years?

Raleigh, NC

That's the word - Happy Boxing Day, Susan and Betty! I could not think of it. That is a cool tradition, isn't it, Laura? Wish we had that here. Guess we could do it all the same.

LOL - Susan, you just reminded me of my first house! It was originally built in 1910, was the town's original "cat house" = two bedrooms upstairs ["Eagle Rock" was a progressive town, they had TWO painted ladies] and a reception room down, 700SF, moved onto it's new foundation in 1950's farther away from the Snake River when the town dammed it to make power. With the new foundation, a bathroom was created under the stairs up, and the hallway to the back door was widened to creat a "Pullman" style kitchen, with a jut out at the end large enough for a bistro table for two and a tiny frig. But it was really only a narrow hallway to begin with, two people couldn't get by! I remember you couldn't set up the high chair and still open the back door! LOL

sounds like y'all will be doing some shopping this next week with all the gift certificates! We, too, got creative with gifts. Not one "gift for the sake of having a gift to give" was purchased. We gave things like restaurant gift certificates to places where folks really liked to go and couldn't afford it anymore, or necessities, or homemade things. We gave everyone cookies, banana bread, and Atlas gloves from the DG co-op. I received "certificates" good for weeding help! And for irises to arrive in February! Yippee!

I've been telling Randall for months I think we have a mouse in the house. Last night, Faith caught a little brown one in my kitchen! when we all came running, she jumped back away, letting it go, then chased it downstairs. can't wait for her to catch it again. been setting out traps for months with no results.

Hey ladies. Just need alittle lift from my friends.
Had to put Mia my greyhound down this
morning so very sad today

Dellroy, OH(Zone 6b)

So sorry to hear about your greyhound. Did you ever notice that dogs forget they are dogs? and many times, we do too. They become a part of our family. It always hurts to lose a member of the family.
As for me, I have a dog who thinks she is human and three kids who forget they are not animals....maybe I should let Willow eat at the table and feed the kids in bowls on the floor! I think there would be less mess!

Raleigh, NC

oh, ChinookCottage

Hugs to you and here's hands to hold and a shoulder to cry on. three boxes of tissues, and a hot cuppa tea. You're not alone, sweetie.

Greyhounds are just the best.

Our dog Hope is really showing age. I'll hold you now, maybe you can hold me next year when it's our turn to go through this.

Jacksonville, FL

Good evening Sistahs! It sounds like you all had a great Christmas and lots of good pressies and great food. I spent the Day with one of my DG friends and her DH and had a fantastic day. Did some things outside today but was too cold to do much. I have some painting projects to start working on tomorrow--a couple more stepping stones, and some of the small statues at the pond. These I can do inside since it is going to be cold tomorrow and for the next 4-5 days. I am so ready for spring!!!

Have a Happy New Year!!!

Linda

Linda, in case I didn't write this earlier, just about peed my pants laughing at "Christmas dinner at my house." sent it to everyone I knew,as it sounded so much like my house!

smalltown, IL

Ladies;
A few months back Mia had to have 7 teeth pulled and the surgery and stress to her was hard but over the few months I had noticed that she wasn't eating like before but the vet said that was normal. She had her teeth cleaned after that and the vet said everything looked good.Well the other day I nioticed the same lump as before but on the other side So I knew what is was.I had made Mia a promise that I won't put her through that kind of trauma again so when I took her in the morning I asked him what he thought. The vet said it was her teeth again and was pretty sure it was more then one and he told me even if I had it taken out it's most likely to return again..
So I made the hard choice and stayed with Mia until she reached the Rainbow Bridge...I have been crying all day it hurts so much..
When we put the other dog down a few yrs back we had Mia to help us through it but now there is no one to help me through the pain..
So in Loving memory of Mia(Kiowa Berma Bea) 6/5/2000-12/26/2009
Mia was very dear to me. I was blessed with her grace, love and companionship since 2002.

A person hasn't lived a complete life until they have had a Greyhound in their home to love and be their best friend. I will love and keep her in my heart forever.
Last night you were crying, sad thoughts made you weep. So I slept by you in bed until you drifted off to sleep. I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "I'm sorry that I had to go, when you need me I'll be here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea. You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.

I stood next to you at the front door when you fumbled for your key, I gently put my paw on you, hoping you would know its me.

When you came home you looked so tired, and sank into your chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there. You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

It's possible for me to be near you everyday. I live on in your memories, a happy thought away. And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll run across to greet you, and once again stand by your side. I have so many things to show you, there is much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out...then come home to be with me.

Love always Mommy(Lisa)

Chinook I am so so sorry. I'm going to be in that boat again too someday, Tiga's going to be 14 in February and she had an episode the other day. Worries me to death. Big big soft hugs.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Lisa so sorry to hear about your greyhound. My daughter and I just finished watching " Marley". What a wonderful and well done movie--sad and yes, I cried even knowing ahead of time how it would end. Especially touching as my son has a lab and my BF in Gainesville has labs.

Raleigh, NC

I cried buckets on Marley. I cry at every dog movie. and I love the hounds. I had an afghan hound. Another irisarian not far from here raises Russian wolf hounds, and my sis's favorite dog was a fox hound. just something about hounds. They tend to be a one person dog, even if they do like to hunt in packs.

an afghan hound is a greyhound with long hair. they run and look about the same without the hair.
