Hello ladies ^_^
Beautiful day today, NO SNOW!!
Kel's brother and wife came Saturday to give us a break, for a few hours. Like thieves, we seized that moment, before they changed their minds and we sped to a theater!!
We watched "The Blind Side" and that movie's a 2 hankie rating!
I strongly recommend all to watch it.

Yesterday, it was busy.. busy... busy.. for us again. Won't go to any details, as Christmas is almost here and I sure don't want to dampen anyone's spirits.
But I thank ALL of you for your prayers, and those few hours of being able to turn off the cell phone, and escape into our own world, must have come from answered prayers ;) Your collective gift to us!

Debbie, so good to see you hear. You're right.. Scotch Eggs is not a Cajun thing. My first taste of Scotch Eggs were in a British restaurant, back in Singapore 40 years ago. I had Scotch Eggs with some pickled shallots... and didn't learn to make them till I come to the States. The other British fare I like is Steak and Kidney pie, might as well be a ca c'est bon over rice without the pastry!

Bonnie, were you served typical English dinner at the Christmas party? Oooooh a roast with Yorkshire pudding and a slice of that Christmas Pudding with brandy sauce!! Goodness, some very rich foods there!
BTW, your Aunt Polly's having the most enviable Christmas with our Lord up there ;)
We've also seen Julia/Julia and wished that it should have been about Julia Child. The other Julia was weak... and it's not because I have all of Julia Child cookbooks;) Wishing I can cook like her :(

Pegi, how's your sweet peas coming along? Are you one for baking every Christmas, like Cookie?

Cookie, I'm sure you'll be getting more orders after Christmas. Once word pass around from your customers how good your home baked morsels are.

Trisha, I know you've been one busy lady.. but have you used your new bike yet? Probably not, with the snow and all!

Audrey, be careful when driving to Lisa's. Don't know goiter can cause bp to go up.

So sorry Linda, Ladybug still has not been found. If she's stolen, that might be a good thing, as we can hope that she'll be well taken care of.
Wow.. I'm glad you survive that robbery. Do hope your knee doesn't give you any problems.

Maid Marion, $3,000 isn't small change!!!! But the truck's sentimental value is worth more than that, I'm sure Charles would get it fixed.
I was laughing away reading your sampling rendezvous at Costco... cause that's what my very frugal BIL will do for lunch! He'd head for Costco or Sam's and free lunched his way...
Hope your Christmas won't be a wet one.

Love the pictures Donna. But you can keep the snow!! I can hear the kids squealing from here!! Bet they learnt fast to dodge snowballs!!
Ahhh.. you must be relieved to understand why Teara's behaving badly. Kids who are rejected act aggressively. That's their defense. How lucky are the twins to get a step mum like you.
You know you are our Christmas miracle, right. This time last year, hope was at a low for you and your family. Look at you now.. happiness all around...

Synda, LK is right. Talk to your mum often. Kel's dad had multi strokes, but his speech is slightly impaired.
Try to get some rest, me think that's what affecting your health. Just remember to turn everything to Him. He can't do His best work, if we don't trust Him ;)
God answers all prayers. He'd either say yes or no. Just remember, He does it all according to His will. We don't know what His plans are, but trust that His plans are always for our best.
I can relate to you hiding when times are rough... but fellowship is very important. From fellowship and Him you'll gain some strength to face another day.

3 daughters Julie? How lucky!!!!! Yep, my late mum did the same to her 4 older daughters. For the Muslim holiday, she'd just put us in charge of the cookies, and all the while she'd be claiming her arms hurt... Hmm.. only before the holidays :D
Care to share with us about "Harlem Springs ,Christmas cookies,a cop,a cruiser, car stopped running out in God's country, having to walk a mile in a blizzard and almost no clothes." Sounds interesting... Julie.. Synda.. ? We're nosey remember?

Now Crissy, I'm happy to know you get that shot! I still haven't touched Betty's 'woodwork'. Post a pic will you and share with us when you're through. We'll definitely be praying for Dave.

LK, bet you and Todd will hear some happy laughter from your grandkids when they open up their gifts.
You've mentioned how your dad gets help. I'm afraid, Kel's dad does not get any help at all. His brother Leslie got help right until he died. Kel's dad doesn't qualify for Medicaid because of his life insurance policy. Isn't that a shame?

Stacey and Barb.. here's your HUGS!! How did I miss you both.. so sorry. Know that I love you two, too!!
I bet you two are keeping yourselves busy with your crafts.
Talking of crafts.... sistah Judy.... no word on your Christmas projects?

Sweet Susan, are you really really ready for Christmas. Through with all the decorations and the baking? Like I've told you, 2010, this house will be lit up for Him!! So, we'll be hitting the after Christmas sales for lights!

I hope everyone's through with wrapping pressies, baking and all the Christmas preps.
Stay warm and safe!

Jaye my woodwork is going slow, mainly because I don't have anywhere to work on it except for the kitchen table which isn't very comfortable with my foot issue. Which one are you doing?

I'm trying to keep up with ya'lls posts and having a really hard time with it! LOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

So far none right now :(
Kel got the one with the robin, and me.. the primitive looking one.. don't remember the numbers.
But I told Betty, they'll be done before Christmas 2010!!!

Sharing some Christmas humor here.

"Sweet"???? moi? Who's been telling that nasty story about me? hahahahaha Rofl!

Shopping's all done, finished the last of the gift baskets, have people invited for
day-after Christmas Dinner (going to be cleaning & relaxing Christmas Day! hmmm oxymoron? guess so, but who cares?!)

I've got some "wee visitors" for Christmas - in a Canadian thread we're sending a "party of a gnome, a bear and a moose" across Canada, and it's my turn to 'host' em.
The thread's called "The boys arrive in Winnipeg... err Calgary, yeah, that's it!"
or something like that. It's fun!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey there.
My computer has been acting really strange, and works when it wants too. It has been down all day.
Sounds like most of you are ready, or getting ready for Christmas.
Jaye, glad to hear you had a day off, and enjoyed the movie! Sorry that Murdock does not qualify for medicaid becasue of his life insurance. That is really sad!
Off to check the other threads!
LK

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Synda, I can't hug a snowman!!! But I'll hug you back, gladly!!!

Post a link over here Susan, so we can 'follow' the wee visitors.

Oh dear, not you too LK! Hope it's just there are too many traffic on your server being it's the holidays.
I'm having to spend hours on FB just catching up with all the 'gifts' and 'invitations' :( Think I make a boo-boo returning the gifts... don't remember who sent what!!! Lol!!!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Ths sunshine is gone, guess that is supposed to happen on the first day of winter. I'm so sorry so many are suffering from bad snow storms. We had about 5 drops of rain today, I do hope we get a little more, but PLEASE not Christmas Day.

I don't think I was ever ready for Christmas, stopped into Wal-Mart today and it was packed with procrastenators like myself. One man left the store with his cart loaded up, could max out your credit card that way. It was my thrift store day and I was surprised how many people were there. The Christmas stuff was 50% off, but I sure don't need more things. Almost 50 years of collecting Christmas ornaments, etc. I think it is time to clear some of them out. That is for another time way down the line.

My brug cuttings under the grow lights are doing well except for Maya, she is such a stubborn one, don't know if she will make it. I treated her just like all the rest, but for some reason is drying up. Cassie Curls is right behind her, but I may be able to save one of them.

Falling asleep while I'm trying so time to get off and move around.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL!!! Ya'll are cracking me up!! I'm going to be busy tomorrow so I'm saying hi now!

LK that's sad how that works.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

So, Pegi.. if it's not now.. when? To reduce the size of your Christmas decorations that is? I know you'll be saying "Lucky Jaye" after you read this.. All my Christmas ornaments, the ones you're supposed to hang on a tree... can fit in a shoe box.. and still plenty of room for more...so...there!
I'm a procrastinator myself, but GOOD excuse this year :D
In fact, this evening, we trekked to the Christian supply house to get last minute gifts!
Cassie's Curls limbs are small, as her blooms are small. You might have to stick her in a dirt, instead of water.

Palms together... no rain on Christmas Day for Pegi....

Not too busy for lunch I hope, tomorrow, Crissy!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Had to run up to Parkland today to pick up some supplies.

Then Sage and I made dog biscuits for Porter, Buddy, Pepper and Maggie.... then a friend called and Sage has gone to Olivia's house to help bake Christmas cookeies

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Dog biscuits? You think Lola will like them? Share the recipe please.
I've never made dog biscuits.. bet she'll woof them down!

Looks like Sage is a great Santa's helper ;)

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Basic Dog Biscuits

combine:
3 1/2 cups unbleached flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup Milk Powder

Dissolve 1 Tablespoon (1 pkg.) dry yeast in 3 cups lukewarm chicken or meat broth and let set 10 minutes. Add to dry ingredients and mix well. Roll out 1/4" thick and cut into shapes. Brush with egg wash. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 300* for 45 minutes. Then turn off oven and leave biscuits in the oven overnight to finish hardening. Makes 60 medium size biscuits.
(I made half a recipe and had a ton of biscuits). Porter loves them!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Thank you Trish!
Papa Kel says it sounds tasty. You think I can perhaps fold in some peanut butter? Lola loves peanut butter.
Hmm.. meat broth.. might not need peanut butter after all.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I don't see that a little peanut butter would hurt...but Sage and Porter both like these just with the broth or stock.... yes Sage likes these too! And there is nothing in there that isn't People food.

Raleigh, NC

oHHHHHHH MY BACK....FEET.....HEAD

Cookie-Geddon ran over to a 3rd day, and even then a few recipes got cut out. I stopped working on any of mine after the Texas Buttermilk Brownie fiasco. So there's no bar cookie and no chocolate cookie.

[I had a marvelous recipe for these, which I shared with my sisters. Lost my copy in the divorce. Decided we needed a "chocolate fix" and needed a bar cookie, so asked sis Mel if she still had a copy. She did and BIL Brad emailed it, along with the comment that they hadn't made them in years. YUCK - this is not my recipe, it's a disaster. Batter to thin, frosting set up like foundant.]

But DD Bevin has filled sterilte 12 qt containers with all sorts of homemade goodies and old fashioned candy. her homemade marshmellows are divine.

Been falling asleep at the switch for two days I'm that tired. never want to eat another sweet or cookie. Tonight, comfort food - beef stew and cornbread. Haven't read any here -started too before I got to doing catch up chores this morning. Our tree decorating got put on hold since last Wednesday when the prep for C-G started. Randall says some cards for me have arrived - I've not opened them yet. Haven't done my own yet, either. please forgive me folks, I'll get 'em done somehow...

I know how you are feeling Bon...I think a few of us decided our Christmas cards are now going to be New Years Cards.....:(

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

and then for some of us.. Christmas gifts will be New Year's Gifts-- if not birthday gifts :(

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

((((HUGS))) Jaye and Kel.

Just talked to our neighbors who had the pipe burst in their ceiling....the insurance adjuster, the contractors, the owners of our units were all by today and it will be at least three weeks before they can get repairs done.... the ceilings are sagging in the front room and it is dangerous to be in the room, you have to go through it to get to and from all other rooms....... the owners are going to see if there is another unit they can stay in until this one is repaired. (Sure am glad mom discovered her pipe problem and got it thawed out in time.... me, I guess I can be thankful for the drippy faucet we hadn't gotten around to having repaired, it kept ours from freezing up.) If that isn't enough trouble for our neighbors, their 11 month old cat has some type of disease and may have to be put to sleep. So sad, it is such a sweet, pretty cat.

Wishing you all a warm and restful good night...need to get Bill's dinner ready...been smelling that Onion Soup for hours and I am starving!!

Raleigh, NC

sweet dreams, sweet sisters, catch y'all tomorrow.

I'm trying to head to bed, but in the time since I've posted, the very last batch coming out of the oven ...well, she got a nasty burn on the palm below her pinkie finger, so I've switched into Dr. Mom mode....and I'm dragon lady Mom to the other DD, making her go to bed early, even though it's holiday break, since she's feeling sick. (comfort food was mostly for her.)

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

ok Jaye - you asked for it......... my thread for my wee visitors:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1064160/

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Ooh too close to Christmas for your neighbor to go through all that moving... but hope they find a replacement unit soon.
Onion soup sounds good! We're having ham sandwiches!!

Bon, think the kitchen's revolting with all that baking!!

Good night ladies, been so good to be able to spend time here.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

TY Susan.. will check into them tomorrow!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Hi Laura!!! Been meaning to say hi all day! LOL

Oh Trisha that's horrible about the kii kii, and their apartment! I hope that no personal belongings were lost to water damage.

Jaye and Kel you are in my nightly prayers, big hugs too!

My Christmas cards have become next years Christmas cards LOL! Oh well, at least I won't have to worry about buying/making any next year, just as long as I don't forget that I have these, I've done that before!

Bon all of that baking is getting me motivated to bake, but I can't think of anything I seriously want to bake. Well, I can think of things but don't want to be standing on my foot for a very long period of time.

Night night everyone, it's bedtime for Bonzo!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Hi Ladies,
A quick "HELLO" tonight. Kids are out of school and I'm babysitting, plus bowling Xmas parties mom and I have been making Lil' Smokies wrapped in bacon and then baked, very time consuming to take for tomorrow's bowling, still making Barbie clothes. The wedding dress is giving me fits. I can not get the bodice to fit right however I do have 5 outfits made. Steve brought up a dishwasher box for the doll house. Have it wrapped, took one whole roll plus part of another. I'm just going to sit the box over the doll house so she can just lift it up. Hope to take over Christmas Eve after she goes to bed (hope it's before my bedtime, lol)

TTYL

Dellroy, OH(Zone 6b)

Jaye, I love that pic of the lights.....Maybe the neighbor just practices green living and decided to conserve energy.. ROFLOL...

You guys all seem to be so Christmas motivated it is making me ashamed of how little I did this year. Which reminds me, Synda, do you still have that chocolate cherry ball recipe we made on that blizzardy night so long ago? Those were addictive. And, no I will not explain about the half naked crazy lady chasing cops in the middle of nowhere.....you are more than welcome to explain that one, missy!

Cindy, I think Barbie has changed her shape through the years to keep avid sewers like you from making prettier clothes than people can buy. I remember when my grandmother use to sit for hours over her machine making itty bitty little dresses for my Barbies. Someone is very lucky to have you in their lives.

Well, ladies.....I am going to go finish writing a few articles and will talk to you all later today...(or in the wee hours of the morning again)

((((((((((((((hugs to all)))))))))))))
Prayers to our good Lord for everyone......Thank Him for safety, security, health, wisdom, and a joyful spirit this time of year.

Julie

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Good morning!!
Wow Julie... you're one to compete with the owls! Curious now as to what kind of articles are you writing. Hope you got lots of inspirations.
Didn't think of the neighbor having a green Christmas! Good one there Julie!

Today we're bringing Murdock to the oncology center. But have to pick up some supplies for the shop first. So, need extra grub to keep us going this morning.

Yep, woke up early just to fix this Sausage and Egg bake.
At my old work place, the caferia would use left over bacon and sausage.. mix them with eggs, season and ladle them into muffin pans that are already lined with biscuits. Then they'd be covered with more cheese... oh so goood.

Found a recipe for an easy big one!

Sausage and Egg bake.
Ingredients:
8 frozen or refrigerated biscuits, baked according to package directions
1 pound sausage
1 can (4 ounces) chopped mild green chile
1 small onion, chopped
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon dried leaf oregano
2 cups shredded Mexican-style cheese blend, such as Cheddar Jack or a similar combination
8 large eggs
2 cups milk
Preparation:
Heat oven to 350°.
Butter a 2 1/2- to 3-quart baking dish. Heat Split the biscuits and line the baking dish with the biscuit halves, cut side up.

Brown sausage in a large skillet with onions, breaking up the sausage as it cooks. Add the chile peppers and seasonings. Sprinkle the sausage mixture evenly over the biscuit layer. Top with the cheese.

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk with salt and pepper. Pour over the cheese layer. Bake for about 25 to 30 minutes, until set. A knife should come out clean when inserted in the center.

Enjoy ladies! Coffee's made. For those that are still fussy eaters like Donna.. scrambled eggs and toasts!!!

Have a wonderful day ladies. Stay warm!

P.S.
God bless everyone!!
*not so tiny Jaye*

Morning Ladies,
For some reason I have been waking up at 3:30 for the last week or so urrrggg!!!
Julie you are right about Barbie's shape changing, luckily I have an old one that was mine and my mom had bought my DGD a new one for Christmas. The new one has a smaller waist but a bigger chest go figure, LOL. But the thing that sucks is the legs are made of a different type of rubber and the clothes don't slide up her legs to well. So luckily my DGD has both types of Barbie's to play with.
Synda!!! I'm so happy to see you posting again. I've missed your humor. So sorry to hear about your mama though.

Well, I need to hop in the shower so my hair can be drying, have to leave early for bowling this morning to get the tables set up for the food. 96 people bringing food OMG!! where are we going to put it all???? But will be some good eatin' going on. My DGD wants to go with us instead of going to work with her mom. She loves to eat, lol.

TTYL ^_^

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Good Morning! Oh Jaye that sounds wonderful, thank you for that recipe! Thoughts and prayers are with you, Kel, and Murdock today hun.

Synda there is a definite void when you're not posting.

LOL Cindy, at the bowling alley already? I'll be there in a few hours, I love to eat too!

I have these new shoes on thinking that would help, but they're not. It's still real sore and bruised around that shot area, it's got to be that, that's causing the problem. If it's still bothering me after Christmas weekend I'll call and get a referral to an orthopedic specialist, I'm wondering if I should wait until the bruising goes away first?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

hahahaha I like the Christmas lights on the neighbour's house lol
I musta skimmed too much

'fraid I have been doing more lurking than posting. Sorry sistahs, but I'll get back on track after Dec 26th (when we're having guests for Christmas Dinner).
I have off from Christmas to Jan 3, inclusive.

♫♪~§usan~♪♫

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone. Jaye thanks for the brakfast.
Wow, Cindy, that is a lot of food! Enjoy your party.
Julie, or Synda, one of you have to tell that story, you can't leave us in suspense like that!
Where is Kathy, and Stacey, and BJ, and Phyllis??? So many are missing, hope you all are ready for Christmas?

Raleigh, NC

Merry Christmas everyone! And good morning!

I'm in the Christmas spirit and ready to go Christmas shopping! 31 gift baskets of goodies left my living room last night, and while I cleaned as much as I could in the kitchen before bed, wisely left a bit behind for DDs to do today/tonight.

Because we cut back so much, we have 25lb too much flour, 7 dozen too many eggs, and at least 12 lb too much butter left over. not including nuts, etc.

so I'm thinking of teaching DD about charity and over the course of the next few weeks, we'll be baking for homeless shelters. But after Christmas. Before Christmas they have lots of volunteers, at Christmas, too. The local papers have been filled with stories of need this year. In two weeks time, those folks will be hungry again, and everyone will have gone home.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

This lazy sleepy head is just stumbling out, is there any breakfast left? Coffee? Got busy working on the trees and baby doll blankets and the night flew by so I just let myself sleep in today.

Sunny today with just a wee nip in the air but the "R" word is now being predicted for Thursday. Arrrggghhh!

I have an appointment with the eye doctor to have the nevus in my eye checked--it is okay but has to be checked yearly so this is routine. Meeting DIL afterwards to finsh up the shopping for the little ones, and then home to finish working on the baby doll blankets while watching The Tudors. Love that series, just wish we had showtime so I wasn't always a year behind.

Found a very interesting recipe on the cooking thread I want Kim to try tonight----garlic chocolate chip cookies. No the isn't a typo and none other than Planolinda started the thread. I was so good to see you online as I miss her posting on this thread too. Missing a lot of the sistahs here, Kathy, Tink, Phyllis, BJ, Janice, Judy come on out of hiding all, please.

Jaye sending prayers and hugs for Murdock today--for you and Kel also. You are never out of my thoughts and I am so counting the days til we meet at Cookies in June. What fun!!!

Son called to tell me the lady in the other car is claiming "whiplash" and has hired 2 attorneys--both we discovered on the personal injury list that claims "we can get you .......... well I am sure you all know what that type is" Insurance company said they are used to this type claim so just sit back--probably 6 months or more before this is over. That news I didn't need to hear!!! He is still complaining of soreness in his chest and think maybe a rib might be cracked but can we get him to a doctor? NO!!! Men!!!!!

Well, I need to run and get myself ready for my appointment. Will check back later.

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

Ok Linda Kay and all..........A Christmas story of the young, very dumb and oh so in love....LOL.Now you all need to remember that we live in a very small rural area,1 town cop on duty and 1 county cop on duty.Very low crime.
Well I was seeing this fella that just so happened to be the county deputy. One stormy night I was at Julie's house and we were making cookies,candy....you name it.About 3 am this cruiser keeps driving by and turning on his lights anything to get our attention. So I said that's Frank he must want me ,so I grabbed my car keys and was out the door. But all I had on was a pair of shorts,a denim shirt, leg warmers(it was in the 80's) and my shoes. We were baking and Julie's house had a coal furnace,so it was quite hot in the house.Never having it cross my mind that something could happen.Remember I was 22 years old and in LOVE....LOL.Well we were not allowed to meet when he was on duty,so we when to meet on this deserted dirt ,back in the sticks road.Sat and talked for an hour or so and then he had to go finish doing his rounds. He left first and then I.What happened next is something we laugh about today, but I would never want to happen again. My car stopped running !!!!!!!!!!! It is a blizzard outside and below zero. Here I am in very little clothing and there is only one house one this road ,maybe a mile away. And this is the 80's and no such things as cellphones. So I have to walk........................to this house. The whole time thinking I am going to die out here and they won't find my thawing body til spring. Finally make it to this guys house, pounded on his door, with what little strength I had left.Thank the dear Lord this guy woke up and let me in.He instantly gave me a blanket ,made me a pot of coffee and let me use the phone to call Julie.Julie wakes up a friend(George) that was staying with them and told him where I was and to go get me.As he is going out the door she hands him a pile of clothes, his response ,"I don't even want to know".So he came and rescued me,I instantly got dressed in the car and he took me back to Julies.Where I thawed out.

Oh and by the way......I met this fella "deputy" because one night Julie and I had gone grocery shopping in the middle of the night at an open all night grocery store. And on the way home we see a car weaving all over the road, the driver apparently drunk. And so Julie makes a citizens arrest and we have to go to the Sheriff's office to make a report, which this deputy was on duty.

And Julie as far as the recipe...I think I do ,but it must still be packed up in the basemaent.
