LOL - Susan, you just reminded me of my first house! It was originally built in 1910, was the town's original "cat house" = two bedrooms upstairs ["Eagle Rock" was a progressive town, they had TWO painted ladies] and a reception room down, 700SF, moved onto it's new foundation in 1950's farther away from the Snake River when the town dammed it to make power. With the new foundation, a bathroom was created under the stairs up, and the hallway to the back door was widened to creat a "Pullman" style kitchen, with a jut out at the end large enough for a bistro table for two and a tiny frig. But it was really only a narrow hallway to begin with, two people couldn't get by! I remember you couldn't set up the high chair and still open the back door! LOL sounds like y'all will be doing some shopping this next week with all the gift certificates! We, too, got creative with gifts. Not one "gift for the sake of having a gift to give" was purchased. We gave things like restaurant gift certificates to places where folks really liked to go and couldn't afford it anymore, or necessities, or homemade things. We gave everyone cookies, banana bread, and Atlas gloves from the DG co-op. I received "certificates" good for weeding help! And for irises to arrive in February! Yippee!
