Good Morning Jim. We were at 35 this morning. How dare Nature be that sneaky....grin
Smiley, he has a couple boxes in the attic of stuff that belonged to my kids. He played with them, and when he outgrew them we packed them back up. Especially books. Jordan has a box of things he is saving for his children...as he is 15, I am hoping they sit in the attic for at least another decade...LOL
FAMILY, FRIENDS AND GYPSIES
We use the front half of my old country store building for storage. My daughter has every school paper the kids ever did out there. There are two humongus blue plastic boxs full of books. One is the little children books and one full of Nancy Drew and Hardy Boy books.
Those books will be priceless one day, Jim. I grew up on Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys and Trixie Belden books.
I loved Trixie Belden! When we first moved to Buffalo, it was such a different lifestyle than what I was used to (we lived with my aunt for a little while) I read all her Trixie Belden books, and a series called "The Boxcar Children".
It is nice that at 15, Jordan has stuff from his childhood that he wants his children to experience also. Must be a deep kid.
Jim, being an artist, DH has saved all our kids stuff too. Some framed, most in boxes also. Good thing we have a big cold storage crawl space in the basement!
Either JJ is still shopping, on her way home, or now home and sleeping!
Not me, you folks can have the black Friday. I haven't had my flue shot yet lol Just lazing around eating left overs and napping then eating more leftovers and sitting by the fire. Got a baby shower tomorrow so gonna have to stir up some food to take for it in a while. It's sunny here but wind is making 50 degrees feel more like 30.Have fun with family today Jim and don't eat too much, aw what the hey, gorge yourself lol
Bet you didn't know this: Most deer only have front teeth only on their lower jaw. Instead of upper front teeth, deer have a thick pad of skin. And the pudu is the smallest deer in the world, grows up to one foot tll and weighs less than twenty lbs. Pudu are indigenous to western South America.
Venice read your post about the garlic in plants, that was me that told you. Sorry it stunk up your house but that was too funny. Maybe just put a small piece in it next time.
Ok no one here to play with so I'm going forem hopping. Will check in later to hear about good deals yall found. cya
We have lots of things from my son's child hood put away too. This mom saved things for him. Tonka trucks and cars and match box ones too, and he has remote control things too. And a peddle car.
My niece has his old books. She used them for her kids, but she will give them back when the time comes. She has already returned his toy box and some of the infant toys.
I told him they better have a boy.............LOL
flowers, we will check to see if ours have teeth in front on top today, after BF's daughter gets one.............she saw one yesterday morning, but couldn't get a clear shot. So it walked away. She would have had to shot it in the butt.
Well we know it doesn't have teet down there Kassy lol. Hope she gets one its that time of year they need to be thinned out. I have a two seater tricycle that the kids have played and played on that I plan on keeping just because its so unique. Are you enjoying your time off?
Sure am enjoying the time off.. Not sure when I will get time off again after I go back.
Switching to a different house and will be on a different rotation at work, so I may end up with 2 weeks on in a row. Plus 2 nights of training at the new house starting monday night.
Well maybe you will have more computer time and less driving now. Have you met your new patient yet?
Yes I did ^_^
After work one day I had to go over to the house they are at now and read their care plans. All of them are none verbal. 3 of them.
And the guy that will be moving in, well I met him a long time ago, and just never realized I would be taking care of him some day..........He is the brother of a former GF, and I only say former, because we just lost contact with me working nights and coming up here on my week off.
Wow didn't realize you had so many to look after thought it was only one.
Do you take care of bathing, cooking, meds and such for all of them?
I will have 6 when the place is full. They are lower functioning then the ones I take care of are. They said nights are pretty easy. And none of them go to day programs, so day staff comes in.
Right now I take care of 3, but they are all higher functioning. And I cook for then, clean, and then get them all ready for their day programs in the morning (including all the showers), give them their breakfasts and meds. And then send them off to their day programs.
I gotta go for right now.
Having lunch and then BF and daughter are going to head out to the woods to hunt again.
Talk to you later.
Thats a job indeed and bet time flys because you are so busy. I got my certificate many years ago and did it for a short time then moved on to other things. It is gratifying work and the people appreciate it so much. Well most of them lol
OK Kassy, enjoyed the chat. Good luck
Kassy, that must be difficult taking care of patients that aren't verbal. You said you do nights. Does the day person do all the showers and stuff in the morning and evening? Or do you do that? I really appreciate that you do that type of work.
Maybe you can answer a couple of questions for me. Are these the people that would be in a nursing home? Or aren't they in that poor of condition? What type of service or house do you call what you are doing? Where do old people go who can't take care of themselves any longer? I am only aware of nursing homes and complexes with small type apartments that have medical care. I am just thinking about family that may need care eventually.
Venice, I think she is gone for now. I can answer your questions if you like, if not then you can wait for her reply.
If you can, that is fine also.
Well she will have to answer her work routine as it is different acording to whom you work for. Not sure but think Kassy is a CNA which stands for certified nursing assistant. She may have more education and be a nurse don't know.
There are several different options for people now according to their needs. They can get in home care, where certified people come to the home so many times a week and give baths, cook or just keep patient company while every day care giver like wife or husband can get out for shopping or whatever.
There is assisted living places that deal with all phases and can put people up in apartments and give daily care, or there is usually nursing facilitys on same property that can give round the clock care for bed ridden patients. These places are set up to handle any and all needs and have come a long way from years past. They have transportation to take people shopping or to dr. apts and they can even have family dinners on site in nice eating halls. Some have their own swimming pools for the ones that are still able to enjoy. Hope this helped.
Hi everyone, hope you're all ok,it's already 7PM here and a cool and more seasonal 41f.The type of work that Kassy does would be known here as care in the community, instead of living in a residential care home, with a large amont of people, smaller houses are used with just a few residents and their carers, then more individual care can be given....sounds similar,I bet the work is tiring yet rewarding.
My Dad has Parkinson's disease and so he doesn't have to go into a care home,a carer comes twice daily to get him up in morning and to bed at night.Their help is invaluble,as I cannot always be there,my brother doesn't live close and my mum cannot manage alone. We appreciate them so much.
Starting Christmas shopping tommorow and I expect it will be very busy :}
Joy
Hi Joy, good to hear from you and hope your holiday was enjoyable. Things sound pretty close to our way of doing there just fancied up a bit here and put on a huge piece of property to handle different needs. Although we do still have small individual facilities that some prefer. It is cold here in the Carolinas and expected to dip tonight. Just not ready to see snow just yet. Good luck on the shopping will need to do some finishing up soon myself. Its 2:20 here, so must be around 5 hrs difference in time.
And Joy, yes I was talking about the Balmoral Castle summer home of the Queen. I was doing some research on your neck of the woods and found a picture of it and was wondering if you were nearby. Castles are so cool. would love to visit.
Hi did every one get enough to eat yesterday! I know I did. JJ's you have a spectacular light show going! Looks so pretty! I have been so lazy today. I had to put my self on the food recovery program. Grin...Here's a pic.of my son.he is smirking with his lip turned up at me. He doesn't like his picture taken. He has already left for home, I miss him all ready. We all had a nice family day. Hope all of you did as well.
Hi Folks. Flowers, good to see ya survived the grandkids....know you are gonna miss them....grin
Hi Joy. In home care is such a wonderful thing. Allows for a sense of normalcy. The smaller homes like Kassy works in are not just for the elderly. They handle disabled folk also and can be invaluable to elderly parents of a disabled child. It takes a special person to be so giving. Have fun shopping.
Venice, the night shift usually handles getting them their medicine, getting them settled for the night, and then being there to handle anything that may come up during the night. They also get them up in the morning, get them bathed and dressed, medicine and breakfast and then either off to day programs or settled in for the day. Kassy is very good at her job and has a lot of kindness and compassion to share.
Hi Dixie thats a big handsome boy you have there! Glad you had a good day. Yes Moon it is awfully quiet around here today and miss the little voices. Glad you told us what Kassy does exactly and am sure she is terrific at it.
Bet there's a whole lot of waddling going on today and, I don't mean the Poo's. Grin
HI Dixie...good to see ya survived...grin. Your son is a good-looking man...but has that OH Mother look...grin Know you are missing him already. Does he live really far from you, or just far enough to not be able to get together much?
Hope the Poos have calmed down from all the "fowl cooking talk" Bet Lester is gonna be really bossy now....grin
Thanks Flowers. Hope you and loved ones had a terrific day! Hi Moon, did you and family have a nice time on T.G.?
Bet hes sharpening those spurs and cock a doddling do all over the place!
Had a quiet day, Dixie. DH worked until 5AM Thursday, so he Jordan and I had a quiet dinner Thursday night. Jordan is off to spend the weekend with his Dad, so DH and I have a home projects weekend planned. Yeah right...grin somehow I see it being all about DH having to work on his computer...grin Gonna go get his DH's B'day present tomorrow...his B'day is Wednesday. Maybe new tools will inspire him...LOL
pOO'S WERE KEEPING A LOW PROFILE. Seem to know the danger is over today. Heard Lester telling them, now if we can just make it through Christmas. Son lives in Jacksonville Fla. which is not far from us. He just doesnt get a lot of time off from work. He is coming back for Christmas. I'm just grateful for the time we do get to see each other.
Yep 17 of us and lord at the food!! Everyone was still able to take left overs home. I found Santas hot line at the north pole and all the little ones got to talk to him and tell him their wish list. It sends their recordings back to e-mail so I got to save their voices to listen to when I want. Had five year olds B-day party too. He was so happy to have all his cousins to share it with.
Well flip the breaker to computer and ball games Moon and just maybe will get something out of him today lol
Sounds like everyone had a warm happy time. Know the kids were excited to talk to Santa and have a birthday party too. Always so wonderful to have them home, and even though sad for them to leave, it is kinda nice to just enjoy the silence..grin
Well I never take naps and I've dozed on and off all day lol
