My daughter (who was embarrassed yesterday by my hib seed pod swiping) just said, "Oh no ... you're not really gonna do that, are you?" LOL
Now I HAVE to do it! LOL
New bees chit chat thread...Seed Junkies welcome 09/27/09
aint it so much fun embarrassing the offspring? I know I do it at every possible opportunity.. just ask my son.
Anyone know how long pansies take to germinate and grow? Would it be feasible to do it this fall still? I know pansies last here (zone 8a) well into the late fall/early winter.
I don't know that I want to buy plants because it might be really hard to get like colors for a uniform look.

I planted pansy seed and they sprouted within a week.
YOU got the FEVER!!!!! I'll be looking around here for some plants and you be looking for seeds. Advertise on the seed trading forum for some seeds of the blue pansy, and If I find some, I'll get you some plants to get you started. Go over to the thread where it says list your most wanted seeds here and put in what you want, maybe someone will have some and send you some.
Oh, in that case, it's ON! Thanks cue-chik! I might have to get on ebay tonight and order bulk seeds. Will they do okay in part-sun/part-shade?
Yes, they do better that way.
Cue, did the black ones I sent you sprout for you?
Love it Blondie.
HI Everyone. Lovely mascot Belle spoil him every chance you get for us.
I would show you all my babies but the darn mutts won't be still long enough to take their picture. Today they decided I needed help digging up the shade bed. I was doing fine all by myself when all of a sudden I felt dirt hitting me full blast from two active little diggers off to the side of me. I like one more corner having everything dug up so I can change the plants in there.
Robin I'm not doing the Goth you know I don't like black plants though one of my friends wants me to plant black columbines just so she can see if she likes them or not. I told her to plant them herself.
Hi all, Just checking in! Can't stay long, too much to still do before dark. Enjoy your Sunday everyone!
My dream assignment is done and submitted (without sarcasm for the instructor, I might add).
I'm gonna go mist my cuttings and relax for what's left of my weekend. Hope everyone has a great night and week ahead!
Good night veryone. I'm turning in also. Talk to ya tomorrow.
Night Seray. Take care everyone and watch out for the halloween moons. You might get got.
Hey, girls, I have black Columbine seed.
I'm reading up to see what to plant in a Goth Garden.
Know it will be interesting.
I had no idea there were so many black flowers out there.
I just looked up Gothic Gardens and found almost a half dozen.
It would have been had I added the Ajuga Plant.
Hey guys.. How is e1? Great I hope. Well I got a lot accomplished outside today. I finally mulched my crepe myrtles, the new ones anyway and the Magnolia tree. I dug all the new Red Spider Lilies and replanted them in the Goth Garden. I had enough to go all the way around the tree twice. I also planted the Red,Black & Blue Petunias in the Goth Garden as well as the Blue Salvia (both from Mekos) I cannot even believe how wonderful the soil is already in that lasagna bed! I am so amazed. That's what prompted me to go ahead and plant the live plants in there. I will get a pic for you guys tomorrow. I have become a stickler on marking everything I plant because I have so many different things, I know by spring I will forget what's where and who I got them from. Then I broke the handle on my stupid wheelbarrow and then when trying to dig maiden grass, broke my darn shovel. LOL.. thats okay cause I still kicked butt.. I mowed the entire lawn.. took like 3 hours. My intent was to do just a little area and rake it up for the lasagna bed, but got started and couldn't quit. My DH had made a nice dinner when I came in.. Linguine with shrimp and mixed veggies with alfredo sauce. We do things backwards sometimes, lol.. Ok, done writing my book now, GN e1 CU in the AM!
Do you put other colors of flowers besides black in a goth garden?
I will Lolly. I think you need something to pop out that black or purple foliage. Otherwise you won't see it as well. I have a lot of dark foliage and it doesn't always stand out unless it's accented in some way. I have three chocolate mimosas in this bed and unless you look you can't really see them. Once everything got big they had a nice background of green to pop them out. Silver or red would have been better.
To Funny..I didn't get it DUH
A PRE-SCHOOL TEST FOR YOU
Which
way is the bus below traveling?
To
the left or to the right?
Can't
make up your mind?
Look
carefully at the picture again.
Still don't
know?
Pre-schoolers all over the United States
were
shown this picture asked the same
question.
90%
of the pre-schooler's gave this answer.
'The
bus is traveling to the left.'
When asked, 'Why do you
think the bus is traveling to the left?'
They answered:
'Because you can't see the door to get on the bus.'
How
do you feel now ???
I know, me
too.
You
don't stop laughing when you get old,
you get old when you stop
laughing!!'
oh seray that chocolate mimosa is gorgeous. I hadn't really seen one but had heard about them.
Yep, I didn't get it either! LOL! Tubby, is it cold at your house this morning? We are hovering at about 25 degrees, and have been for about 2 hours at least. That's when I got up and checked, and it's not warming up any yet. But the sun's not out yet either. Bummer, I didn't bring any plants in last night. Hope they didn't freeze too bad!
Can somebody tell me what the difference is between a hydrangea bush and a snowball bush?
Morning, Flower! A snowball bush is actually a viburnum, and blooms in the spring. Hydrangeas bloom in later summer, August , Sept. That's about all I know about the differences! LOL! I'm sure someone else can give you more info, tho.
Morning everyone! seray, like your pictures ;-) skellogg, that is too cold already, I am just not ready and willing to give up summer yet, lol.. be back later.. hagd
Thanks skellogg, I know that they look the same and that is about my limit on knowledge of them. LOL
A snowball can make a tree also, it grows tall, but the hydrangeas only make a bush that spreads out wider. There is a big difference when it gets big enough to bloom and you look at them.
Ok I know they looked the same to me and just didn't know cause of that. Thanks mekos
Morning All! Hope everyone has a great day. 63 degrees sounds nice to me!
Funny Tubby! Needed coffee. lol Your hosta seed pods are in the mail.
Flower I tried to take cuttings from the mimosa to pass them around. Big failure!!! lol I grew an incredible amount of mildew.
Gus will be happy to get home Mekos. I'll keep my eye open for him here. :)
Enjoy your day!
In the Gothic gardens I read about , there was also listed a Moonlight garden. It was pretty too.
Could put them side by side or within close enough distance to Show off the differences of each garden.
Also added gazing balls and Gargoyles.
