New bees chit chat thread...Seed Junkies welcome

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I'm always looking for them and sometimes can find them on freecycle or craigslist. DH works all over the city and I have him on the lookout for stuff people dump in the alleys - lol.

I was just "THINKING" and have maybe a couple hundred different packs of seeds that COULD be listed with a new thread each time to ask if anyone was interested in a trade??? if anyone is interested they could do the same, I sure would love to see each pack and what you might want for each one. I wouldn't want to TIE up the seed thread much though with OUR seeds. What do you guys think? Anyone interested in a one for one trade?

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Wow - thought I lost my navigation skills for a minute. Is this where I'm supposed to be? So we're not in the swap thread now. I shouldn't have taken the weekend off!

Al

Sorry AL, some complaining about us tieing up the forum there with out chatting. I guess everyone is just low spirits today. I was trying to liven things up but didn't find any here, yet, today.

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

Okay - So are we still swapping seeds, or just BS here? I guess my BS is about as good as anybody's. Sorry, not to offend anyone.

Al

Won't offend anyone here only out there. You find busy bodies every where. We're still tradeing seeds and doing the auctions anyway so they can just get over it. We just move UP TOWN to the big city. Condo with pool and cabanas and mojitos palm trees and the "WORKS". Use you imagination. It's ALL HERE, with US. Hope you are having a good day.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

chelle,
If you have a dollar store close go there and buy a couple packs of the Dixie cups and use those for starter plants. They are great fro things like that and you can get them for a 1.00 a pkge and there is about 40 to 50 in a pack. They make good seed starter pots too. Just poke a hole in the bottoms for drainage.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Hey gals I have a BUNCH of clematis seeds, does anyone want any?

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Any that will grow here flower? I'd take some if so.

loca

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Oh I don't know LOL I know they grow here.. I'll send you some anyway and try and see if they will , nothing lost if they don't.

There are 2 different kinds and they are both planted on one trellis so you would probably get two different ones as I don't know which one is which at this point.

Hi Flower

I'd love some of those clematis seeds!

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

ok will send them out.

I've seen beautiful pics of Doosie. It's pink I think. A few are in the Brug challenge this week. All of those are nice. LOL I think we left this weeks challenge on the old Brug thread in the seed trading forum. My have to hunt that one and move it to it's new home.

Thanks for the prayers for my friend, she is going to be going home from the hospital soon. Where she is ready or not, don't know but without insurance here, you get booted out as soon as you are stable. But she seems to be much better. Thought I'd let you all know.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

HI Everyone.
welcome to the new home AL. As for the BS we'll just use it as a green layer on the lasagna beds no problem there.
Flower may I have some of those seeds too pretty please? But wait until I get my new address before you send mine OK? Hoping to get that all done tomorrow but hubby's boss wants to go get another junk car tomorrow so it depends on whether he gets back in time or not now.
Mekos Glad your friend is doing better prayers will continue for contindued progress.

Florence, KY(Zone 6a)

I'd love some Flower

Thanks Mindy. Good one for the bs. Haha.
Does anyone want to do the auction tonight, for the next one? Ptilda had asked to do it and just let me know she isn't going to do it tonight, so if anyone wants to put their stuff up, it's up for grabs. Or Mechelle if you want to do another one- let me know. Arejay, or anyone interested for this one?

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

flower - whatever kind you have is fine by me. Just tell me the names if you know and I can figure out what's what later - lol. I'll try them anyways!

Florence, KY(Zone 6a)

Can anyone identify these? The are blooming in ditches and hillsides all over Northern KY right now. I want to know how to capture seeds from from them.

Oh I have had them for about 6 years and as far as I can remember this is the first year that they have produced seed galore. Always had seed but not like I have this year.

Thanks. I love clematis and I have those 2 and 5 more that I put out this year so I'll hopefully have seed from them next year and they are some beautiful ones too. The one I will be so glad to see what it looks like is called Crystal Palace.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Lolly I don't know the actual name of them but they are a daisy. The ones I have got just down the road from me are about 7 ft. tall and gorgeous.

It something like yellow cup or something like that. I had them on my have list a while back. Trying to remember. They are wild flowers, and the bloom dies and you take the dead head like zinnias or marigolds kind of flowers for seeds. Gold cup maybe. Plant ID WILL know I'm sure.

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

Hi ladies! Boy am I having a tough time choosing a winner in my auction! According to DG, the time is 6:14 pm and my time here in TN is 7:14.. So I will be going off of DG time and closing my auction at 8:00 tonight. I would like to do the next auction, but have a lot going on this week, so would like to ask if there is anyone out there who could chip in and do an auction for us this week. We would really appreciate it, ad love to see this keep going. If absolutely no one can, then I will but any takers would be welcome.

Had an interesting day.. went to a baby shower in another little town not too far from where I live and noticed some beautiful cannas at 2 different houses. I felt the need to leave the shower as quickly as possible so i could go knock on doors and ask for some! See what this addiction does to you? lol Anyway, the first lady was super nice and ended up giving me an orange canna I didn't have, along with this variegated monkey grass I have been wanting and she had beautiful tall (like 3 ft) Irises with yellow flowers. Then I stopped at the 2nd house and this elderly man came out and let me have 2 big canna bulbs of his gorgeous yellow & reddish orange cannas, 2 giant seed pods from his Magnolia tree and a plastic bag full of fresh chestnuts from his tree that he had in a bucket of salt. LOL So I thought what the heck, I'm having a good day- I saw this huge greenhouse frame that I thought might be up for sale since there was a for sale sign on the property and met this nice lady who ended up being a Master Gardener. She had a lot of really neat plants, but she didn't offer and I didn't ask. I told her about DG and to look at what I have and if she wanted to trade to let me know. We talked for about an hour and she ended up inviting me to a Master Gardener meeting tomorrow where they are making hypertoofa (I think I spelled that right) pots. So what the heck, I'm going! They say that everything happens for a reason, so I'm digging in with both heels!!

Florence, KY(Zone 6a)

I'm going to try that as soon as they start to die off. I successfully gathered my first seeds yesterday from dying zinnias so now I think I can do it. Harvesting seeds and picking up a truckload of manure all in the same week. It's like the training wheels are coming off. LOL

Check out the hypertof? forum. They have some really neat things!!!

Lollyjean Go back to the Brug sprout forum. DeeS (I think) found the name of your flower.

You go lollyjean. You will be an old pro before you know it and rolling down a hill with a roll of toilet paper under one arm and seed bags in the other just like starlight. (I'm still in stitches over her seed collecting)

Florence, KY(Zone 6a)

Yep. She was right. It is a swamp sunflower. It says they will bloom into the fall and need plenty of water but we've hardly had any rain at all and they are blooming like crazy. I think I'm going to try some in my beds.
