gorgeous baby there!

Virginia Beach, VA

i will be posting more pix of the gardens soon. Yes we are very happy of the low maintenance lawn. We are in a point of our lives where we have to enjoy and not a slave of the garden and yard!!! LOL!!! We are doubly blessed of our new addition, our daughter first child is 21 years old, did in vitro but lost the fetus and then here is Seaver. Later Belle

Florence, KY(Zone 6a)

My compost bin got totally soaked by the continuous rain that we've had and is now just a big pile of slop. Can I still use it in my lasagna bed by spreading it out and letting it dry (if the sun ever comes back) or should I just dispose of it?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

let it dry out... keep turning it... airing it out. If you know its about to rain, then I suggest covering it with a tarp to keep anymore water from getting in.

you will be ok. Try adding more 'dry' stuff while keeping water out.

Belle Beautiful baby. I know you are one happy grandma!

Beautiful gardens!!! The Japanese maples are to die for! What kind are they? I'm like Cue jealous of your grass. Keep em coming!!! We love pictures.

And the unplanted "Goth Garden" lol .. will start on this one today with some Red Spider Lilies..

Very nice Mechelle! I like the goth garden fence. I'm working up my design as well. Who's gonna do Goth with us? LOL

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

I think Cue was.. I need to add more brown leaves on the one side and one more green layer and I will start planting in it. After Top Soil that is. I have some nice ones to start it with that Mekos sent me from that auction I won.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

What are you doing ? Did I miss a contest? Goth Gardens ? Everyone? Do we have a thread? I would have to plant mine in the house!!

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

LOL.. CUE has BEEN done a Goth Garden... as a matter of fact.. the Goth Garden was a CUE original idea ;)

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

I know you have one.But it looks like Mechelle has the fence and I have seen Seray talking about Goth Gardens, and Jan I think talking about Bat Flowers have you taken over their minds one a t a time? Fess up Missy!!

She most certainly has!!!! Read her journal. She's IS Goth didn't you know? LOL

I have my spot all picked out working on my plan. Who's in? It takes all winter to germinate bat flowers doesn't it Mekos? Ridesredmule has a spot for one. Who else? Flower has a black flower Collection. Out of the closets Goth Queens! LOL

Cue can trade her HP status on the Brug Sprout when that's over for what Top Goth Queen? Queen of the Goth? High Priestess of Gothdom? What?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

I'll settle for the Title 'Queen of Darkness' with positions of 'Ladies in Waiting' open...ROTFL...

Queen of Darkness! Has a nice ring to it. We might have some gents who want to play. LOL

Florence, KY(Zone 6a)

I saw some black tulip bulbs at the store the other day and almost bought them. I've not gone goth yet. But maybe someday.

Well LollyJean might as well join the "Ladies in Waiting" or the "Gents on Hold". We'll all plan our Goth gardens this winter, sprout our seeds, build our lasagna beds and July next year we'll show our stuff to the reigning "Queen of Darkness" and her chosen set of judges. They can decide who amongst the goth wannabe's will be the "Queen of Darkness" for 2010. Doesn't have to be a big spot. Just imagination and creativity. Doesn't have to be all black.

And to add education to it for all us old and new seed junkies we must start a Goth journal with pictures. Since Cue's the only one so far (that I'm aware of) that has taken advantage of this feature of DG. That will give her something to see and read to help her judge. She's not gonna want to give up THIS title without some dues being paid. So our journals have to reflect our Gothness. LOL

What say you Queen of Darkness?

Florence, KY(Zone 6a)

Hmm. I do have a small lasagna bed I'm building next to my ac thingy on the back of my house. What other black flowers are there? I can get the tulips. I saw some black hollyhocks on eBay. What else?

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

Oh my! Just googled black flowers, and the black violas and pansies are so pretty! And I don't normally like black flowers. I am amazed at the varieties that have black! Those little nemophila "total eclipse" are really cute too!

Florence, KY(Zone 6a)

I just went to eBay and searched for black flower seeds. I had no idea there were so many black flowers!

Do I hear the goth closets opening? LOL

Florence, KY(Zone 6a)

My DH will really think I've got 'round the bend with this one!

I think this would be a good place for cobra lilies and other carnivorous plants. Great black foliage plants like Black Magic EE's. LOL Your DH would like those Lolly. :)

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

ooh Black elephant ears would be extra cool.. and The Jungle Beauty Daylily is darn near black.. Yep it's all Cue's fault.. but in a good way ;-)

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

I think it just isn't a true Goth Garden if the plants aren't all black. It would be more fun and challenging for us to find black plants. I have started a mix but I think I changed my mind and will start adding only black plants. That black fence is at Wal Mart, but my SIL gave it to me.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

A goth Garden doesnt need to be all black flowers.. ark foliage would work, as well as.. ahem.. carnivorous plants. Simply using Gothic style decor would work as well.

and NO.. i do NOT intend to give up my crown.. however, i am willing to take on a 'Queen of Darkness in Training' or a 'Princess of Darkness'... he he he

No 'Dowager' prefixes to precede MY title ROTFL

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

That's true Cue.. about the different colors.. I just think the idea of having a bed with all black plants is kinda cool. With Halloween coming, you could find some neat things to decorate it with. Carnivorous plants? Now that's Gothic, lol.. Like say... Venus Flytraps? I have never seen one of those in person but it would be a good way to keep our cats out of our flowerbeds.. HA

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

like lucy . . .

ROTFLOL

ROTFL Cue

It's true you truly own the title Queen of Darkness! However since I've passed the princess stage about 50 years ago LOL How about every year in theory (or next one for sure) you anoint a "Goth Queen" for that year based on the most interesting and creative garden. Subject to your rule of course. LOL You can find a Prince of Darkness and a Lady of the Netherworld to help you judge.

We could come up with a bubbling cauldron of goodies like we did for the Brugs. Everyone contributing a little makes a powerful potion. Can start anytime as long as the contribution to the kettle is there. Anyone can play. July 31st the pics are in the persons journal along with all other "Gothness" poems etc. You and your attendants judge from that. The thread is for us to compare notes, exchange seeds etc.

What say you great Queen of the Blackest Night? LOL
