The Lasagna Garden Brigade #2 (Continued)

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

I sure did - lol.

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

Ok guys, here ya go. This is one side of the garden. I have two more "squares" on the other side, so it is twice this big. So far I just have the cardboard layer and aged horse manure with leaves, shavings, and pine needles mixed. I am going to put down a layer of leaves and straw and then one more thin layer of horse manure. I will take more pics when the rain lets up. I walked it and it is 20 x 35. Hope thats not too big but I figured I could plant some flowers in part of it if I needed to.

Spinach, Swiss Chard, Bok Choy and Leeks. The Leeks were from an old commercial pack and didn't all germinate. The others are from you, Kelly ;-)

This is Cabbage, Cauliflower, Broccoli, and Romaine Lettuce. Yesterday I started a mixed Bell Pepper, cucumber, green bell pepper, zucchini, butternut squash and black futsu squash. Next i am going to start some tomatoes ;-) Oh, I got those peat packs and I like them. I think I will start my flowers that way from now on too. I just use grow lights and they do really well.

Looking good Mechelle! You'll have some good eats there in no time!

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

Thanks! I need to thin them out pretty soon, or do you think I should wait until I plant them in the ground? When do you think is the best time to put them in the ground? First day of spring is just around the corner, but I guess I need to check on the frost date.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

The chard, lettuce, leeks and bok choy and brassicas can handle cool weather. Check your last frost - they can probably be planted now. The peppers, cukes, zukes and squash need to wait until after last frost. They're not cold tolerant at all.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Forgot to say if they are not going in the ground soon thin them now so they are not competing. Also feed them with a half strength fertilizer - preferably something like fish emulsion. Peat has no nutrients so you will need to feed them!

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Your doing great with this Mechelle. You will have fresh veggies in no time!!

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Looks great to me Mechelle. Wish I could go ahead and plant but I'm married to a stubborn man who thinks doing all that work to make a garden plot better is nonsense all because his parents and grandparents didn't do it. Though MIL did build nice beds for her flowers grin.

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

Ha ha Mindy! Yeah the male species around my house don't quite get it yet either.. That's okay though.. I know it's gonna be awesome and hey, we can be the new, smarter parents and grandparents! My in laws are moving here in June and my mil can't wait to see my garden!

Thanks for the info Kelly.. I am going to get them out asap. I have to put up a fence to keep the deer out first ..

Thank you Arejay :) I owe it all to my amazing DG friends ( or should I say blame it all on them .. Ha lol ) but you started it all with that newbie pack :-)

Love ya'lls lol

Florence, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi Peeps! Long time no see. I just wanted to report on my first lasagna bed. I've got lots of the bulbs sprouting and also several empty holes from whatever critters stole my bulbs. But the soil looks great!

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

That is great Mechelle, mine arent up yet but I cleaned that bed out today...

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

Hi Lolly! Isn't it great how fast the soil turned? It's amazing.

Your tulips look awesome LJ!!

Lasagna is the way to go!! Good looking flowers you have. We had been extremely busy trying to get ready, DH bought 2 tons of river rocks and placed them mostly in front of the house and I love it!! He also bought a truck load of red mulch and spread them already but not enough to cover the 2 newest lasagna beds. I will take a picture when it is finished. I am also repotting some of my hostas and giving them fertilizer. there is a lot to do and with golf season and covering at a plastic surgeon office who fired her OR nurse. I am stressed!! LOL!!!. There are lots of hired help looking for jobs, i meet them at our food pantry and so far it is working well to ease some of the stress!! LOL!!! I also found some cheap and good looking bulbs and rhizomes at Walmart . they are very cheap!!! Keep those pictures coming!! Happy gardening !!! Belle

Hiya Sis! Where you been hiding out?

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

She's been hiding out on Facebook LOL only place I can find her to bug her off and on. Not that she lets me get away with the bugging (sticks out tongue here)

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

I had a problem gettingonto DG whe I lost my PC.. I couldnt get on because I had forgotten my password (they were stored) and for some reason, I either didnt do the DG password retreival correctly... or it got lost.. or who knows.. but, figured out what it was finally...LOL

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

HA HA HA Mindy - that's where I find her too if I need to - lol.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

JUST so everyone is quite aware... LUCY survived the freezes...lol... just sayin

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

How is my girl Lucy these days?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

she's fine... learning to live tolerantly if not peacefully with the cats... she is happy winter is finally over...lol

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Lucky for the cats - lol. You all had a rough winter so I bet you're glad spring is here. We are supposed to hit 90° for the first time this year today. Been close a few times.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

I wonder if LUCY can be killed with kindness??????

Low to mid 80's here the last few days rain coming and cooler weather in the upper 60's for the weekend.

Been busy repotting seedlings wish they would hurry up and get big enough to set outside I"m running out of room and dirt.

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

It hit 92° here today - yikes... Better than last year though. We were into the 100s the first week of April.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Good morning ladies! mt L bed is going great so far.. it is now the herb garden...sadly, thats about all that is growing. Most everyting in my garden was killed by hard uncharacteristic hard freezes this year. the irises survived as did a few salvia and 2 brugs.. but thats about it. everything else is gone.. so looks like I am starting over.

guess this gives me the opportunity to move the butterfly garden to along the fence wall... i guess there is an upside to everything...lol

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Cue you let us know what you are wanting and we'll see if we have whatever it is for you.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Thanks hun! I have been updating my want lis for things.. so if any of you happen to browse it and have anything.. just let me know.. and what you might want inexchange.. I havent much, but what I do have I will gladly share share... or send postage.. and so forth.

Hey you guys, I can't believe I found the lasagna garden place. I've been gone so long I got lost. Well Cue, I currently have seeds for at least 6 or more of your wants and as I was telling you before, I'm about to clean my greenhouse out and the bunches of extra stuff growing in there I'm planning to devide with my buddies from here, so if anyone is interested, I've got lots of stuff I won't be able to take care of now and would love to find new homes for them. I'm only keeping my very favorites that I can keep inside with me during winter. Not keeping the greenhouse any more so all the others will be planted outside but stuff that won't live here outside will have to find a new home. I'm not sure exactly what day I will be going through it but soon. Got several Dr. appointments over the next 2 weeks so just when I get the time to do it. If anyone is interested I'll list names and pictures and you guys can look and see if you want some. I also have several pots of seedlings of hibiscus plants, several colors but not sure which is which.(yellow, red, pink and white and some red and white Texas swamp hibiscus all sowed together.)Be glad to share if interested. I got a couple seedlings of blue satin and blue bird rose of sharon plants also but still tiny on those. Got a bromelaid I offered someone last fall but forgot who so if it's you tell me, it got to go too and it is putting out another plant on the side of it. I think it blooms red. Lots of little house plants will show pictures later.Lost names off some of the pots but some I think I remember names of. Got some pretty little puya plants that need repotting and they are mixed colors ????? Be thinking and I'll be back (if I don't get lost again ) and you can let me know. I'm loving the garden pictures.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Mekos.. I wold be happy to give some of your plants a home.. even if they arent on my want list... you just tell me what ya got.. and how much postage to send!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Ditto little buddy, but it will have to make it outside here year round without babying - lol...
