If she isnt there when we leave!! Where did Mechelle go?? She must have gotten nervous running to hide in case we ask for directions and head for her house!!
The Lasagna Garden Brigade #2 (Continued)
Yes how could she not be happy right? New Bees and Mojitos...what else could anyone need....
OMG I just saw this, you guys are so funny!! We really should plan that for sure. I'm crazy enough to do it! next spring sounds awesome to me! We could have a bbq, drink some real mojitos, have a campfire by the pond.. Totally do-able. I'm not kidding, lol
That sound fabulous to me. I know I would enjoy meeting everyone, but you young whipper snappers just don't expect me to keep up with you all. LOL
Hey I'm 37, so I'm no spring chicken! Wouldn't that be fun though? We could turn this into something really cool and fun you guys!!
We could start doing an annual get together.. I am really good at this kinda stuff.. I was a cub scout mom, lol lol
We could call it something like "DG Annual Flower Fest" hmmm hmmm Need Feedback
Let's all agree to a date and time to meet somewhere and talk about this..
Well if I am not disabled by that time it really sounds nice. chelle I am 62 yrs young and have alot of physical things going on so I know I wouldn't be able to keep up.,But that doesn't stop me from enjoying things.
Shoot flower, thats okay.. we'll make sure you have a good time
LOL I am sure I would anyway.
I'm going to plant the Allium bulbs that skellogg sent me and I haven't decided on what else yet. I'm going to go through my newbie seeds and make my selections. Definitely something to climb the fence and maybe the wildflower mix.
That is going to look super, Lolly! Can't wait to see the pics next spring when everything is blooming and growing! Yippee! Another finished bed. We rock, ladies! It looks wonderful, Lolly!
ooh Lolly, nice lasagna bed! Some pretty Morning Glories would look amazing there ;-)
this is my first time with this group . i want to tell you my experience with my 2 new lasagna bed this spring. It took 7 months to finish a big one measuring perhaps 30 x 10.We compost everything including stuff from the freezer.I had to hire someone to finish 2 new beds late spring because I just can not do everything and improve my golf game too. LOL!!! He used all my compost and had attracted or made earthworm galore that the birds congregate for food. I get 100's of them for my kois. DH told me not to compost meats but i did not listen and i still do it.I am on vacation right now but i will pix of this 2 new beds when i get home. Belle
Come back Belle...show us the pictures!!
arejay are you here?
Welcome Belle! And yes, do show us pix, as we love seeing how e1 does things. This is the first year for alot of us with lasagna beds, so we are learning tons!
Im here right now Flower.....
Yeah up bright and early I see. LOL Wish I could get up like that LOL I am to lazy to even try that early.
4:48 a.m. - I agree with you Flower - I wonder if even God is up at that hour, LOL!!!!
Cynthia
I hope so!! 4 am does come early.
Hi there Gals. Got plants to put in the ground today so I guess I have to work HUH?
Me too - this is what makes for a good day!
Cyn
Ok, I have what may seem like the stupidest question ever but here goes....A lot of the seeds I'm gathering for planting in the Spring say "sow 6 weeks before the last frost". How am I supposed to know when that's going to be?
well you can pretty well say your last frost will be the last of april or the 1st of may. I know ours is normally in the 1st to middle of May and yoou are farther south so yours woould be earlier than ours.
Lollyjean the farmers almanac predicts the date for each location. It's a guessing game really. In coastal GA I've learned not to plant until the middle of April unless I want to spend lots of time covering up the babies and keeping my fingers crossed. In this case practice will give you a good idea but is not perfect. :)
How's this for another stupid question... once your garden is "lasagnaed", how do you keep adding to it if it has plants in it, or do you not?
Once it is ready for planting which means you have enough depth to grow plants then you can landscape but take your time. this is talking through experience, i consider color height perennial or annuals, shade loving, sun loving etc etc. After you had planted add the bagged mulch so you will have a no weed bed.again this is what I do in my beds. We have a no weed in our gardens and I am not kidding. Aside from the mulch that we have DH puts 75 bags of bag mulch. We save all clippings, leaves from the fall and even the neighbors clippings during trash days as long as no one is watching!! LOL!!! I employ help, teenagers from church or teen neighbors and at one time mentally challenged so they can have extra money. i do not have problem getting help because i pay over minimum!! LOL!!! and feed them too!!! The lady with big heart. !!! Belle
Great advice Belle! NO WEEDS!!! is my goal for next year. I'm saving everything and my friends are giving me their leaves. We have mostly pines. I will add a thicker mulch to my next bed. My first had irises and I was afraid to put it on too thick. I feel encouraged about the weed thing. That was my biggest challenge this year. Just don't have the time it takes to weed large areas. Sherri
Hey that's a problem for me too . I just don't have the back and legs to get down and weed much. I am going to mulch my iris bed and hope it dont grow to many weeds next year like it did this year. couldn't hardly see the flowers for the weeds and the irises are in there really thick so you can imagine what the weeds looked like.
Start you lasagna garden now and keep adding and by spring everything is decomposed and ready to go. i use several thickness of corrugated boxes. One thing that adds to more rapid decomposition is water often. i wish i have more room but area in our .45 acre lot is landscaped. I will post pix when i get home. We are having a baby boy tomorrow!!!Belle
I've covered the lasagna bed that is ready to go with plastic. Do I need to uncover it and water it periodically or just let it cook as is?
lolly jean,
Do you have the thickness that you want for planting next spring or are you planting fall bulbs? If the answer is yes then a plastic cover is good and add water as needed to aid in the decomposition. If not keep it open and keep adding clippings and compost. Dh shreds fall leaves before adding to our compost. Is this your first lasagna garden? Belle
Belle,
I have all the thickness I need and plan to plant some bulbs in the next month. This is my first lasagna bed.
