I just planted my Irises this spring...
JJ do want some Italian Plain Parsley?
so I can set some aside for you when you come

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I am here Venice...some times i just float around reading and learning, hearing and keeping up. Looked like the clematis seeds were causing a bit of consternation, so just wanted to toss a bit in..

JJs, are those miniature daffodils narccissus, "paper whites"? this link has some good info, if you can get past the bloomin' ads.....grin

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Go ahead set some aside.
bonjon I'm thinking the soil was to wet? DH had removed the gutters above them and didn't replace them until early July. or maybe not enough sun.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

soil is never to wet for irises...they are used for riverbank erosion problems!

Raleigh, NC

a yeah, actually, it can be too wet. depends on the iris. beardless (water/bog based heritage) ones are used for riverback erosion. the Bearded irises (desert based heritage) will rot with too much water. they require excellent drainage.

but wet won't cause no bloom - it causes stinky rot and dead plants.

editted to add - jjsg, you've got dmail

Yep thats it.Narccissus its the yellow one. Whish I'd dug them all up. Had permission from the owners, but thought it looked better out fron with the flowers. I even cleaned up a few beds before these people bought it .
This is it now ugh

Trina I did see your irises, they're gorgeous! Mine are supposed to be rebloomers, but that's not happening.
JJ I learned that irises like to be very shallowly planted. Mine have part of the rhizome showing. Here they are in May.

Dear JJs, how often should I clean under my refrigerator?

Dear Lynnie, should I chop up pecans before mixing them in with my brownies?

Dear Venice, what can you tell me about composting verbascum?

Dear Imazadi, is it really warmer where you live now?

Dear Trina, where is the best place to buy pots?

Dear Bonjon, aren't you glad you logged on here?

Grins girls....sounds like you are having a great time. Moon

Hello: My name is Karla.
Glad! to pop in and say hello!
I enjoy! daylilies and TB irises.
I hand pollinated alot of my daylilies this summer.
life has been busy and I had no time, to mark my crossings.
I have been collecting crossed daylily seeds.
I dry the daylily eeds for 24 hours and chill the seeds in the refrigerator.
I will let them chill until I am ready to start the seeds indoors in Febuary.
if anyone would like crossed daylily seeds send me a Dg mail.
I can send at least 20 seeds for sasbe.
Here is one of the few of my crosses, that bloomed for me this year.

they use the bearded ones here for that because the others wont survive our winters...i didn't know it could get too cold for an iris but apparently it can

Ok JJ saved you 4 of them..how about Artillery Plant?

Moon can I plant regular chives and garlic chives in the same pot?

(Zone 5b)

wow Skimper, I'm impressed & that one's a beauty!

yep

Lynnie - that color combo you just posted is called pliccata - it refers to the white (or other color) ground and contrasting banding of color around it.

any of y'all clematis growers have a good word for me on growing clematis? got a really big mailbox post that's bare. would love to find a variety that blooms after the irises. here, that's after Memorial day. isn't about now the time to plant them?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Moon best place for pots is dollar tree!

And hello Karla nice to meet you, welcome to the rebels thread!

Greenwich, OH

Thank You!It takes patience to see first blooms from daylily seedlings.
especially in my zone.A couple growing seasons.
Worth! the wait to see what surprises! you may get.
I am admiring the iris photos.Pretty!

Raleigh, NC

hmmm, I may be giving away a secret, but I get most of my pots on craigslist! often, for free! folks moving away don't want them to go to a landfill...

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

No stinky rot or dead yet.
They were here

I am on vacation this weekend.Look where I am spending it.
Right here on DG. Life is good!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

hello Pajonica, very nice to meet you sorry to hear about your typhoon

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Trina, since they are both members of the allium family, they can be planted together since they have the same requirements. But, I would think that they may cross pollenate and you would wind up with onion garlic chive. i havr a link.....aren't you surprised? LOL. This link has a lot of info about herbs in general...good bookmark

gosh! I had to open another browser so I don't miss anything I want to post!

Bonjon - yes, this region of the state is much underrated. (we who live here call it western new york) This weekend is the chicken wing festival for all who love them! Lotsa good restaurants, art & music in this area.

Venice, you made a smiley face with your seeds!

Bonjon - some clematis are finicky. I have a Miss Bateman that's tough, but an easier one would be jackmanii. I'll post one of mine in all it's glory. After it was done, I cut the bejezzus out of it. Got a little bit of a second bloom going on now.

Here's my daughter's smiley face when we were at Vinny T's in Boston:

ok Pam that's it last go around...whatever I can't fit in pots is going home with you!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Pajonica, wondered if you were caught up in that. Sorry about your garden, but so glad you are well. Come take your mind off the mess for a while.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I want a jackmanii clematis, hubby used to have in a hanging pot climbed all over the kitchen but his ex tore it to shreads and left it in the middle of the floor

Tokyo, Japan(Zone 10a)

Typhoon is the Pacific equivalent of an Atlantic hurricane. Yep and plenty of water often around 8'' of it!
Everyone here OK thanks jjsgramma.

Hi Skimer and Pajonica. Welcome. I just came up for a minute. I get my mom on Saturdays. She's in her 80's. I make her do a little gardening and then we watch movies for a bit.

Here's my jackmanii clematis in it's glory:

glad to hear that PJ. Trina - that's just wrong! ripping up a poor defenseless plant!!

Raleigh, NC

trina- gee, the two biggest beardless growers I know of are in Kalamazoo MI, near Utica NY, and several hybridizers in Ontario - that's north of you, isn't it? siberian irises make great bank holders. they get really dense and thick.

Lynnie, you are in zone 5b. Suttons (google it) has a great chart online of the reblooming reliabilities by zone. RIS (reblooming iris society) also has info. if you get frost before the iris has time to rebloom, it won't.

just think of it, though, I have to fight to get peonies to bloom, and forget having a fragrant lilac here! not enough cold weather.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

my goodness....i think the plants are trying to attack me...there isn't one single flat surface in this house now not covered with plants except a small section of the kitchen counter where we have morning coffee

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Moon you should clean under refrigerator more often than I do. lol (bout every 3 months)
Skimper love the daylily.
Trina get them seeds, call me when have plant ready for me.

DH is starting the grill suppose he is hungry???

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

my stupid nursery won't carry the siberian ones no matter how much I complain!!!!!!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Smiley, you see smiley faces in everything! I reallly like the spaghetti one!

Moon, you do know I was just kidding. You saved us from banging our heads on the wall!

Trina, did you see any 12" pots at the dollar store? I be not. They are expensive. I will have to keep looking so I can repot my trees per Dave.

Boy, run a few errands and a person can miss out on a lot!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Forgot, I meant to tell you all that your flowers were beautiful!!!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

they will be ready by tonight JJ...like I said anything I can't get potted are going home with you!!!

I didn't really use to be afraid of my plants...but now I'm having nightmares!

the dining room table and all the chairs are covered...it really does look like a jungle in here!

Tokyo, Japan(Zone 10a)

smileymom343 love your Jackmanii, one of my faves. whats that I spy growin with it?

Raleigh, NC

((((((trina))))))) shhhhh - they are all on line! your local nursery won't know a sib from a species. take my word for it. ensata.com snowpeakiris.com (she's irisloverdee on here) and pollyk on DG, send her dmail and ask her. you can order now for spring planting...... shhhhhh and I'm envious. between tree canopy and allergies, no house plants here.

DH started the george forman and has hotdogs and pork and beans started - we're eating light tonight. this time I trained...or he decided....to get this right. he's a finicky eater, so he does most of cooking.

smiley - now that's what I'm talking about! that's a gorgeous specimen clematis. any suggestions of one in a rose or pink and white?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Just being silly ladies....love the thread. good to see everyone chiming in.Lots of good stuff here.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

that is the understatement of the year bonjon...they didn't even know what a jade tree was!
