This little fellow is a holy terror in the yard and will be the cause of many "no's!!" and "get outta there!!" because he chews everything. EVERYTHING. I've started referring to him a a 'drive by eater.' He runs 5 steps and takes a bit of the nearest plant, sprints another 5 steps and takes a bite out of the next green thing, another 5 steps and bites my shoe! I've caught him eating: dirt, bark, small rocks (tasting larger ones), the hoses, my gloves... nothing is safe. Anyhow... this is the owners new puppy. He is super cute. But one day he's going to chomp the wrong plant and have indigestion. My oldest cat can't stand him because she doesn't fight back... just runs. Precious, my orange cat, is about 3x his size and has swatted the heck out of him every time he gets within biting range (remember his issue with chewing things?? that includes the cats' tail) I figure that it's a good lesson learned. it's really quite funny to watch because you know what's coming as he gets close to her. He should know better. But, he still tries. I think that they might get along in a year or two. His name is Sambuko, we call him Sam.

another of him. It's hard to get him to sit still for a picture. So, I put my gloves there to give him a reason to stay there

Your so clever Shelly.
Good morning.Its hotter-n-hell here.Big Tstorm yesterday.
I still have 8 more DL's to plant.
4 of them will go in the garden from hell because I just cant dig 8 holes in that clay and sod.
The rest will go in the easy garden behind the Buddleah.
Youe salvia is a stunner How unusual to see oxblood leaves and blue flowers.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

good Morning Jo Ann.
Was it at least an interesting T-storm to watch? I like those kind. I definitely have much sympathy for you on digging in that clay on a hot day. I've been doing a lot of that as well lately. That's a great plan that you have for splitting them up. What kind of daylilies? Thanks, I agree about that Salvia. It was really almost accidental that it was planted there. I set it down near the tree as I had to pick up something else instead. When I came back to pick it up, I realized that I sort of liked it there. So, there it stays!

Falmouth, ME(Zone 5b)

But my oh my is he cute!!!!!!!!!! Perhaps THAT is why he's still alive.. .lol!!

I love it when the robot brain makes the choices.
I took advantage of the B&D lilly half price sale and bought 5 verieties and they tossed in Northfield ,a tall one.
You can see how big the plants are
They advertised bundles of 3 fans 3 divisions. Many of the verieties had 5 and 7.I gave some to my neighbor and tried to give to Debilu when she came yesterday, she doesnt like DL's but I had 2 hostas (1 NOID from you)

Thanks Leighton! I'm sure that you're right on that one.

It looks like you came away with quite a bargain there Jo Ann. healthy ones too. It should be interesting to see how they turn out.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

DGer said northwest DL's are always the size of leeks but emerge the following year, smaller like the ones are here,OK with me as long as the colors are right.
I have had mistagged lilies from this place before and gave up on them twice.
They are discontinuing DL's and turned up all their beds for the sale, they offered every DL' they grow.
Here is the selection

Nice collage! In your picture I recognize DALLAS STAR ... a favorite of mine (in over 700 or more)...

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Wow... those looks great. They are very pretty.

When you said a DGer said that northwest dayliles are the size of leaks..... did you mean the Northwest as in my location or Northwest as a name of a nursery or something like that?

I admire you DGers with big gardens.
Mine are big enough for me to handle.
DD has gardens further from the house,I just cant walk back from so far to get a forgotten tool if needs be.
I wish I had mor room for DL's they are so beautiful in masses.

Falmouth, ME(Zone 5b)

I wish I didn't have so much room for DL's.... I keep adding and adding like I have helpers here.. lol!! They are beautiful in masses... Funny, I get so busy working with them and hybridizing that I rarely step back to enjoy the overall view. I would love to downsize a few hundred and add a few more perennials...

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

She asked me where they were grown, when I asked how far apart to plant them.
I tend to crowd a bit.
I told her Washington State and the daughter has fields in Idaho "Snowey Creek" I believe. Both locations were selling half price.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

RC I love that saliva too!... Sam is a cutie pie (other than the biting of things)

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Thanks Allison!

Leighton.... I have that same problem.

That's interesting Jo Ann. All of my daylilies are much larger than leaks. Much larger!!

Falmouth, ME(Zone 5b)

Have always wanted to see beautiful Oregon and the flowers there... maybe one day!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I know your not exagerating, my GF's son lives in Seattle and they traveled to the gardens in British Columbia ,Victoria.
She alwasys remarks about how much bigger plant life is there in the north west.
Your pix are always anazing.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Leighton.... I would hope that you make it out here someday. I think that Maine is just as pretty as Oregon. But, it's their differences that make them both pretty. When I've been to the east coast, I'm always amazed at how much shorter the conifers are and how many more deciduous trees that are there.

thanks Jo Ann. So many times i've been sooooo surprised at how much larger plants have become than what the tags said. Now I know to give plants twice as much room as they say, but some of the first beds that I planted became very overcrowded very quickly.

I hadn't really planned on posting this picture as I took it to keep notes on all of the changes and projects going on in the yard now. But here's a perfect example of what I was mentioning. The daylilly in this picture is twice the size that I was expecting. It's currently over 6' tall. (you can't miss the one that I'm talking about)

Thumbnail by redchic01
Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

that is pretty tall

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

lol. yeah, the tag said three feet. If it will help, I will take a picture with someone standing next to it tomorrow. I have other daylilies in that mess, but they're mixed in very well with the monarda. But, even those are at least 4'.

Falmouth, ME(Zone 5b)

After all the rain we've been getting.... our plants will be the biggest they have every been. We don't usually have much for rain in June.. this has been an unreal year weather wise! My sister lives in CA so I have intentions of getting to WA,OR and then to CA (someday). Currently kids and animals keep my fairly firmly in place.. lol! Beautiful picture Redchic....

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Thanks. It will be interesting for you to compare to see how differently things grow this year, I would think. Hopefully they will be happier and healthier. I'm sure that you'll get out here at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later. But, you will.

Falmouth, ME(Zone 5b)

Yes, I will get there... I will get there... I will get there.. lol!! I'll be sharing photos soon. Everything is incredibly lush. At this point, I'd be welcoming a drought!!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

The unfortunate part is that the weeds grow faster with that kind of weather as well! at least in my yard!

Falmouth, ME(Zone 5b)

Oh yes... that, I think... is a country wide issue... lol!!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

holicow Shelly.
You do need to give them more room.
I would dread dividing, just go in there with an industrial tree felling machineLOL

Shelley----just loved the photo with the drops on it---very clever! And Sam's adorable---but he's a terrier & they never grow up! My 7 yr old still acts like a 2 yr old--this is my last terrier! Loved the photo of the DLs as well, Jo Ann---I'm sorry they're giving up DLs ---I've ordered from them frequently.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have had three bad experiences with them and gave up on them.
Now and then I haunt their website because they do have the best and widest variety of DL's as well as Lily bulbs.
Couldnt resist this sale now I hope all the colors are according to lables. That was my past problem.

Thanks Robin.... When I was younger, I had a Westie that I just loved. She was very mellow and followed me everywhere. Hopefully the owners will have the same luck with this one, that he'll eventually calm down and mellow out.

Jo Ann... Yep, I agree, the daylilies there need more room. As i mentioned before, I didn't realize that they'd be double the size that the the tags said! Yep, I'm going to divide them here soon..... one way or the other!! Machine or shovel!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Those dl's are HUGE.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Interesting info on the bubbletea....thanks for that link, Victor! I love Thai Iced tea....but it's very sweet and creamy. I can't drink it often....like dessert!

Thanks, Shelly! And I love your first shot as well....that one with the rain drops...so unusual. Great photography!! Sam is adorable! I wonder if he has a medical condition that makes him eat everything in sight.

Nice collage, JoAnn! Very pretty DLs!

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Victor, at this point perhaps you know the name of the butterfly. I have a book of all insects, looked it up and found it is a European Cabbage butterfly. Perhaps you want to double check it on Google
