I'm glad you liked my day lilies. Wish you could see the yellow one up close. It is much prettier than the photo shows. I had forgot I had the pink. Didn't know my pink had survived the years we were away. I had thought it was in a bed we had to abandon and mow over. Got to find that jewel next summer and some transplants going. I have a new day lily my niece in Tennessee sent me it is called a black day lily. Can't wait to see what it looks like.
No one understands how tiring sitting at a hospital can be. I'm a lot tireder at night from hospital stays than I am if I've worked in the yard all day.
I'm thinking about keeping the rose. After 48 years, she is a fixture.
Chezca, if you figure out how to collect coyote pee, please let me know. For the life of me, all I can see is Chezca running around behind a coyote with a bed pan hollering, "In the pan, in the pan."
i have slugs
jjsgramma, I sure do like your bowling ball figurine and that daylily......which one did you say that one was?
Jim, you wife is a beautiful lady and she sure is a "Rose" is that her name?
Chezca, you alway's give me a good laugh with your writting's.
Lynnie and Cat, hope you both had a good day at work.
Nope my rose's name is Joanne. She just happened to have her attention on the rose, only way I could get her picture. Extremely camera shy.
I've seen those bowling balls at rummage but never dawned on me to use them around the flowers. Good thinking, jjs.
Know where cat is, she's piggin out on cobbler. If I were a cook, I'd have to try all three receipes to see which one was best. I mean at one time. Only way to run a comparison test.
Good morning all. Nobody posting yet. So I guess I'll go pull up spent tomatoe vines. Good while they lasted.
Its the red one Rachel.
Jim I started using bowling balls because between the grand kids, storms and dog the glass gazing balls kept getting broke. If you are really energetic you sand off any writing, fill holes with caulk, prime and paint. I have seen a web site where they even cover them with glass tiles, but never tried it. I like to recycle things so I will use about anything to set them on. I have one on a metal fruit bowl turned upside down. Drives my DH crazy always dragging home something. He had to build me a shed. Should see my candy cane yard at Xmas.
Does yur Rose know you are posting her pic? You may just get a thorn ! LOL
Black day lily sounds unique
Chezca , maybe Jim will chase the coyote for you. If not they sell it at hunting stores, at least they do here.
Lynnie if you get bored I have beans to pick and freeze. Could use the help I'll even make cobbler!
No fair Jim. I just got my first ripe tomato.
Cayote pee huh... Hmmm... Let's see where in the Bay Area can I get cayote pee... :-) ^-^!
I've scouted my local box stores for booger-repellants (yes, squirrels:-), bought and tried all of the sprays they had to offer but no luck! I even made my own concoction last season: a bag of soooperdoooper hot chili powdah mixed with a cup of oil (for staying powah) to make a eye-watering paste and slathered it on my fence... Did it work, you ask? Well let's just say I found them boogers actually licking the stuff! Then I thought, huh, I KNOW! CHOCOLATE! Why? This is how my genius brain worked it out: if dogs can't eat choclate cos it makes them sick, maybe them boogers will eat a bunch and diarreah all day! THAT should give them the incentive to stay away! Smart right? Eh. Not exacatactly... I left a few of my PRIZED belgian choclates (it's the only cholate ever available in our house coz IT'S MINE and I hide it) on top of the fence post, left for a while, came back, choclates gone (so me thought, hmmm, it's gotta be workin!). So I put the rest on the post, left, came back, and they're gone!!! Next day, I hear a whole lotta barkin and screechin and what do I find? FOUR! Count em, FOUR boogers instead of just my usual THREE! I guess they liked the choclates so much that they told the neighborhood boogers where they can score it! ARGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such is life...
And gramps, I ain't gonna run around chasing cayotes and trying to catch their pee! No sireebob! :-)
Been living here in CAHLIFOHNIA for over 10 years now and FOR SOME REASON, I don't see that many HUNTERS around... I see a lot of people stuck around trees though (I think they call em tree-huggers or sumthin)^-^... But I do know a coupla CLOSET HUNTERS (they don't wannu come out bcos they don wannu be "judged") that I can score some cayote tinkle from!
Good morning all. Busy morning here, but it's settling down a little now.
Chez, I saw coyote urine concentrate in some nursery store I was in awhile back, but can't for the life of me remember where.
jjs, thanks for the link! I tried Jims' last night and it was delicious! I will try the others next time. I love new recipes! :-) It's about time to find some good ones for Christmas candies and cookies!
By the way, if you have too many green beans, you can always beam me some! LOL. I haven't had a mess of fresh green beans yet this summer!
Cat are you any where near Springfield MO? My brother headed ther next week I would send some down.
I have green beans comin out my ears. Can't pick em fast enough. I started pickin the tiny ones just so I could skip a day. If I'm not freezin them we're eating them. Thats what I get for thinking they weren't gonna amount to nothin.
Glad to hear you seen coyote urine for sale I know Chezca and Jim thought I was nuts.
If my tomatos all turn at once I'm in trouble too because my DH don't eat them or anything with them in it.
Suns shining and its warm here for a change I'm going outside to enjoy it with a book.
Hope everyone has a GREAT day
Morning all! Got some sleep. And some food.
Chezka do you want me to mail you some coyote poop? *grin* I saw coyote pee at the nursery/garden centers around here too...costs a fortune. Why IS that?
Cat, please! I'm trying to get through THIS week, never mind Christmas! lol Slow down!
I agree with Rachel, Jo looks like a lovely lady. I'm thinking she doesn't know you posted her pic. I pictured her plumper, probably because of all the talk of food . Where's your pic, Jim?
JJ we're heading over to the pool right now. Too hot for yardwork anyway :)
Lynnie thats where I'm headed. I have a above ground one. It's small but serves the pupose if all you want to do is get cool or float around with a book in one hand a cool drink in the other.
Enjoy your day
I am about 2 hours from Springfield. Wish it was closer, I'd take you up on that offer! :-) Thanks so much for the thought! There's a farmers market started up here now. I am going to try to get to the Sat morning one this week and see if anyone brought green beans!
I love Christmas. I normally do lots of baking and candy making and give to people. Several older folks who don't have much family etc. This year I think I am going to gather different bread recipes. Banana, strawberry, lemon, etc. And make a smorgasboard of small loaves for people. Anyone out there got any good sweet bread recipes?
Did somebody say, CHRISTMAS?!? I Loooooooooooooove Christmas! In fact, as soon as July 1st hits, I start a-countin down the days! :-) I don't know why but the atmosphere is wayyy much nicer around the holidays that's why me likey so! I'm even nicer to them boogers around that time! :-) [shhhh! And I actually LIKE fruit cakes too!]
Lynnie, uh, nah. I appreciate the offer but cayote poop?!? And why, do you ask, does it cost a fortune? Like gramps pointed out, it ain't easy chasin after them cayotes beggin them to "pee in the pan!" :-) I wonder who does that... ^-^

Now this is the bunch of girls I love. Up and running, getting ready for christmas, feeding the squirrels, collecting pee and lounging and swimming. Never a dull moment.
Wonder what they call that stuff, "coyote in a jar." Saw a man on TV one night that caught skunks for a living. Collected their musk and sold it perfume companys. Hmmm, been wondering why some women you can smell when they walk in the room.
True Story: Had a friend who liked to trap in the winter. Came in to my store on morning, stinking to high heaven. "What on earth you got on you," says I. " Wild Cat pee," says he. He had caught a young female Bob Cat and stead of killing her for the belt, he somehow got her out of the trap and into a croker sack. Went home and built a cage, slanted tin floor in it so that when she peed the liquid would run down into a jar. He would then use this scent around his traps to entice the male cats in for a closer look or smell as the case maybe. Only problem on this morning, he had slipped down and fell on the bottle. It was in the pocket of his bib overalls. He was covered in Bob Cat pee from his neck down.
Know what you mean about those beans. Went to resteraunt the other day and asked the waitress what came with the entree and she green beans. "Lordy, lady, I been eatin them thangs every day for the past three weeks. Can't I have something else?" Sweet little thing didn't know whether to hug my neck or slap me."
The only wildlife I ever see here are the boogers and the possum :-). That's as wild as it gets round here (thank goodness!). Oh sometimes the semi-dog puppy pretends to be a lioness stalking "her" prey (he's a dude). The prey being a rolliepollie bug, mind ya :-)... Or he tries to "fly" after the hummingbirds, pretending to be an eagle or a falcon, possibly getting six inches of air then whines when he doesn't get one single bird ^-^.
Your semi-dog puppy sounds like one of my old cats Chez! :-)
Hmmm...I bet Bobcat urine would keep lots of critters away from a garden too!
Bet it kept his wife at arms length, too.
Girls, my wife doesn't even know I made a picture of her. If I want her to know I'll go straight and tell her. Jo is 5 feet tall and weighs in at 105 and is 65. If I want her to know that I'll tell her. Mums the word.
Sending this photo so all can see what I look like.
You sure are a handsome "young" man Jim! :-)
People are like wine... They get better with age... :-) You don't care about the bottle, but what's inside it ^-^...
My nephew looks just like you in that baby pic! He's two ^-^...
Jim you sure are cute....I think I see a stubborn set to your jaw even then ;)
What a cute kid you were. Keep going I want to see the HIPPIE picture
I want to see more picture's too;-) Darling pic's of you and your wife Jim and Jim I have been admiring your picture's too. Thank you so much for sending me the link to those and the recipe! Your place is beautiful and I especially love your knock-out's and your Azalea bushe's! Just wish the Azalea's bloomed all year long. The video would not load for me though.
It's been raining hard here since late afternoon but we are not getting hit as hard as some around us. Lot's of ping-pong sized hail happening in countie's near us. Hard rain's are suppose to continue through out the night! We need more sunshine and less rain for a while.
Rachel it rained for the short time I was at my sister's pool, sunny before, sunny after!
I came home from the weekend to find my knock out roses had sent big shoots full of buds, it looks ridiculous with those 3 or 4 shoots on each shrub sticking 2 feet above the others, but I couldn't cut them they're full of blooms.
The video on Jim's garden link wouldn't load for me either. What a beautiful place though !
Hi Lynnie, I would not cut those new knock out shoot's either!
It's definitly been a rainy summer and below normal temp's. for us here. Starting to wonder just how our Winter month's are going to turn out now! I am already dreading the thought's of Winter again! Lot's of people I know like our Winter's but not this gal;-)
Our weather was off all year, winter we had the usual big storms but then the temp would go up, it hit 70 in Jan one day, that's just wrong. So we'd get a big storm, then a weird thaw and all the snow would melt, then it would get cold & the melt would turn to ice..all winter this went on. Spring was hot & dry, instead of cool & rainy, and now summer is cool & rainy with a few 90 degree scorchers thrown in. I expect fall to be like summer & winter to be like last year.
Our saying in Louisiana, is if you don't like the weather, just stand there a few minutes and it will change. Pretty accurate saying, especially in the winter.
I still got a little left in the bottle, Chezca. If my bod would just live up to what my mind tells it. Ole dumb me been wanting to play softball all summer. My mind says, "you got one more game in you." My brain says, "you lying sucker." Oh well.
Glad you liked my yard. It took a lot of labor, after being gone seven years. Joanne kept wanting to hire someone to help us but I wouldn't go for that. I wanted it to be our yard when we were through. My way of working is to pick one job and stay with it till its done. Forget every thing else.
I don't really have any pictures of Jo and I. Nothing at all on the digital. She is really camera shy. The first picture, Chezca, I was two. The second, I was fifteen. Didn't know they were in existence until my niece, who happens to be my age, stumbled on them and put them in her computer and emailed them to me.
Jim that's our saying about the weather...if you don't like the weather in New England wait a few minutes. The other one is crazy New England weather. I remember a guy from Tennessee years ago, asking in his cute southern drawl what's up with the weather, first it's hot then it's cold then it's hot again.
Chezka I meant to tell you, I was having dinner with my mother & telling her about the wallpaper in the haunted house looking like hers and she said sometimes she hears people walking around the dining room! This is the first time ever she admitted to anything! Of course the house isn't full of screaming girls now.
Good morning all. It's gonna be hot and humid here today. I think our cooler spell is past now and we have to pay for it! Calling for over 100 Fri - Sun and humid. Oh well, that's what air conditioners are for! :-)
Hope you all have a wonderful day!
Hi Cat are you at work, it must be cool there! 100 degrees yikes. I think we're supposed to get a cool spell next week. I guess you won't be at work all weekend though, will you. I weeded a bed last night till I got bit by mosquitos...my shoulder got chewed up ugh! And I was chlorine-y from the pool.
Yes I'm at work and it's cool as long as I stay inside! :-) I have to water tonight and it's going to be yukky out there. Also need to feed the few brugs I have this year. No blooms yet, but one should be starting any time now!
brugs are pretty but they seem complicated....,beyond me I'm new at this stuff...
Last year was my first year for them. they are addictive. Only problem is you can't leave them out over the winter unless you are way down south. But you can take cuttings for the next year or bring the pot into the garage etc. The blooms smell wonderful!!!
If you want to try one, I can send you a cutting this fall. Just let me know
Cat that's sweet! I'm not sure I'd know what to do with it, though. Have you checked out the brug forum? I REALLY need to get my subscription in! I keep saying tonight, then by the time dinner & bedtime & all that is done, I'm tired & forget.
Yes, I watched every post in there last year! :-) I kind of went nutty! Had 35 different varities by the end of fall. I lost several over the winter and then moved the 1st of April, so didn't bring many with me. They are beautiful flowers, but can be lots of trouble.
Is your subscription about to run out?
No I haven't subscribed yet SSSHHH! I've been on here 1 1/2 years...been meaning to subscribe for ages, it will take 2 seconds...need to sit my husband down to get it done.
Tonight!
Yikes! Just bite the bullet and do it! :-) You can do all kinds of stuff when you're a member
Lynnie, you can do what I did, subscribe for 2 months at 5 clams then see if there's any big difference from your non-subscribing days. If ya don't like it, you're only out 5 clams. So far I've renewed. One of these days I'm gonna go for the big kahuna: 1 full year! ^-^
