Betty, the peonies may well have to do with the soil acidity. Mom gave me about 10 peonies 8 years ago....they were this beautiful pink! Oh so sweet smelling. I planted them out back along the property line....as peonies tend to pull ants in the house.
Well, low and behold...they bloomed the following year...all white...with a tiny ribbon of pink here and there through them! OHH I was sooooo mad! And now, they are almost all white. I will have to go see if any blooms left in good shape and show you a picture. We had a rain and it flattened them out.
My rhododendrom was blue planted also....now white. Ugh!
No trip to the nursery after all. Other priorites in the budget I am told. So will go seperate some of mine out in the front garden and move around some needed foilage.
I have ribs in the oven, and corn on the cob on the stove. Ahhhh yes. They will love me...and the doctor will scream about my "lack of weight loss" tomorrow.
Debbie
Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #109
Well it turns out that Mrs. Cheerful is married to Mr. Cheerful, what a surprise!
Debbie, want to come eat at your house, just passing near computer, must run, need to wash wheelbarrel of cement otherwise I'll be in trouble...no more cement in my trunk...so laughing, knocked on someones door, told them a story of woooo about cement and no rhubbarb leaves, she told me to help myself anytime..pays to smile and look distraught..who could say no to this old lady...lol
Crissy.....Mr. & Mrs. CHeerful....are their kids name Grumpy, Grouchy, Kranky & Crabby
lol...Debbie, you are such a card! Hate to put you and Crissy together goodness knows what you 2 would get up to..
It's amazing what a person can accomplish if they run inside, change and run back outside without sitting or getting something to eat..just got in and amazed at what I've accomplished...
Started with unloading my car...omg what I didn't have in it...
the bags of cement will now be these pretty leaves, thanks to a stranger..lol..see the pretty book rack I got for $4.00, bargoooon for sure
Managed to rid myself of some sod and make an area for new shrub and the Rodger's plant...see some room for more plants..yep I do!
Mosquito's were enough to carry me in...Sailor stays by my side..know she's saying, enough is enough let's go in....so in we are..she's now laying at my feet looking at me so must mean she want's her treat before bed...Missy, she's on my bed waiting for me and Riley who is the hunter is meowing, wants out....
Off for a bath, bite to eat and bedtime it is...
Best of the day...All around enjoyable day..
Worse of the day...worrying about my brother Bernie...the lawyers are meeting again tomorrow re his claim for coverage for his house burning..I sure do pray something comes of this meeting..
What did I learn...a bit about grafting and plants changing color...
Thanks for keeping me company today..
Good Lord willing, we'll gab tomorrow...
Night/night
"Mosquito's carried me in" ...Betty I think you need to write a book - that is wonderful!
Hello To All!;
Liz & Trisha - Do you think I should buy more crocosmia - this one looks so wimpy by itself...or just wait and they'll start to 'take over'....it's next to a post near the hammock so if they go crazy, DH can mow....
I would love for them to get at least 4' tall and clump to about a 1 foot area....
Hey Debbie - Hey Sis! So Shannon volunteers with the kindergarteners? That is SO wonderful! My DS is a "Deborah" as well - the biblical spelling... as opposed to Debra. The ribs sound yummy. I was gonna cook yesterday but since we had "Fathers Day" a week early, MIL cooked...
We had it a week early because BIL is having Open Heart Surgery tomorrow....and .....this is horrible....someone broke into his house today! He said probably some kids....they took some guns, he wasn't sure what else...but just the timing of it all was the worst...
Liz - Thank you re: the Girls. But I'm worried about you! Are you getting back in to get that checked out?
Crissy - (A TOAST TO YOU!) Congratulations....Well Deserved! So nice to have a manager that appreciates you too...if only I had that I wouldn't be trying to find a new job...
Betty - I think you need an SUV....or maybe a School Bus ....for all the stuff you've collected! The Japanese plant is pretty....what pretty yellow flowers...I'm trying to talk DH into a Japanese maple...but not sure where we'd put it...
Last year I did exactly like you....I would find a plant I loved and then figure out a place for it, if it didn't work out it wasn't meant to be! :) But I'm running out of plantable space (until DH gets rid of "Sanford & Son") so I am a bit more particular...whenever DH moves Sanford & Son to a side yard... then I'll have more room to 'go crazy' again...I CAN"T WAIT! LOL!
Hey Judy - I've always had the shakes when I get nervous...one reason I could never do those piano concerts when I was a little girl....but I couldn't talk about myself much though I tend to do that too...this guy interviewing me talked the WHOLE time...I mean he did have some wonderful ideas.......BUT.......
So glad you got the red flowers you wanted....the memory garden is special....I can't wait to plant one as well.....but the 'ideas for it' just have not come to me yet....
Hugs to all - Please say a prayer for BIL tomorrow....
Mary
Mary your BIL is definitely in our prayers.....will also add a prayer that they find whoever broke into his house.
As for the Crocosmia, I would pick up one or two more......I have only had mine for a year and they are not taking over the entire yard.....they have hardly spread at all yet....I keep hoping...looks like it will take awhile for them to spread the amount I am looking for.
Thanks Trisha! I will put it on my list for this weekend! I love the red...do you know if it comes in other colors? Red is fine by me though...it is striking where it is....
Right after we planted the little thing...the squirrels ate one of the plants....DH is still having trouble with them getting his banana's.
Did you get your fish yet? I do love mine...they come up to the surface when I walk by...must feel the vibrations or something...wanting food.
30 mile bike ride! WOW! That's quite a trail...
I'll have to get a speedometer...maybe I can start biking ........the whole running/walking thing hasn't happened at ALL lately...
Hugs,
Mary
Don't know about other colors....probably,but the red is the one I love.
Squirrels.....wonder if a rag soaked in ammonia that they recommend for racoons would work for squirrels???
Anything other than around the block is done on the Tandem....I would never make it 30 miles on my own. Running is too hard on the knees and I just can't make myself walk far enough or fast enough to do any good....so guess DH will just keep dragging me around on the Tandem.
Chrissy is right about grafting. Those 'breeders' who create new species of roses do so by taking the root of a strong established rose, and they 'graft' to it, just above the root line, a sort of weaker one, but one that is of a specific color, and it takes on the old root and grows into the new transplanted color.
I had a peace rose once, and a young man who mowed my yard. The peace rose was wonderful until he mowed over it about three times, and suddenly I no longer had a peace rose, but I had a red climber. I still like it though. What happens if if it is cut down below the line where it was grafted, it reverts back to its old color.
And Debbie is right about plants changing colors because of the soil. Some soils leach the color right out (for lack of a better word) of a plant, like the peonies, and they become white.
Congratulations to all of you who have good things happening, and prayers for those who need them. Judy, I'll look for the blue shirt/garden picture. Remind me tomorrow since I am ready to crash tonight.
In the meantime, I'll share my rainbow...

Have a wonderful day, loving those flowers Sharran....and to think I got something right about a plant/flower! Ya can teach an old dog new tricks! haha
Debbie
Morning, what an absolutely gorgeous day out theire and here I am in here...thinking wouldn't it be lovely to retire AGAIN and enjoy being home playing, then a second later I'm a thinking, play with what, you'd not have all those $$$ to play with each week, so here I sit...
Jeff (my youngest) Paul (BIL-boss) Colin (lawyer friend) are going out golfing in a bit and then steak dinner...say it's a business meeting but doubt it...now why couldn't Paul say 'girls off you go this afternoon and enjoy'..nope, we've appointments..wonder what I could do to make him (them) feel guilty..
Liz, hands on his, shaking my head, stern look, what are you doing girl, a couple of cigarettes, throw them away...RIGHT NOW, boy are you lucky I don't live closer and you think your sister will give you the what for...are you in trouble...
Carol, love the setting, no more racoon problems??? I can just picture looking out your back door, hot tub to the left, looking in the distance at the gazebo and knowing what lies behind...what a treat it was for me to visit..your turn you know...spend a night and we'll do all the garden centers and boutiques...tell me when to expect you!
Shar those lilies are beautiful..would you say your gardens are in their prime?
Trisha, know I should know this but what is a tandem? Walking machine?
Did you and Sage finish your project..must take a run to the stained glass shop here in Barrie, they have quite a few different molds, see if there is anything like it...
Mary sorry to hear about your BIL and the theft..omg will he get charged because of having guns in the house or did they break into a lock cabinet..do you think it's someone who knew he had guns? will be saying prayers for him..
Laura, Wonderhug how are things going for you and yours..haven't seen you posting so starting to worry...
Trisha's Laura, how are you doing? anxious to see photo's of your garden..
Haven't seen Barb on line for a few days ...sure hope Norm is ok...
And "Tubby" just not like you not to have a morning smile posted...are you doing ok...
Debbie, now your headaches begin! Yep, better get that high blood pressure looked after..laughing at nurse cratchett...just posted same, unusual that Tubby hasn't been posting..Shirley can't be working him that hard..
It could only happen to you Crissy, so laughing...lovely floweret...
Debbie, meant to ask what are your plans on July 4th long weekend..lots of family activities? think I might take mom over, spend a couple of night, maybe take her to the Ellicotville gambling casino - make her happy, know it's a very bad time but wondered if you could spend the day with us???
LOL Debbie!!!! You crack me up girl!
You not busy today Crissy?
last night just before going to bed I realized someone had called while I was outside playing ..called to say she is taking varigated ground cover so tonight I promised I'd be over....always a place for more plants right...
finally made my perm appt.- busy most evenings next week...eye exam on Monday, perm on Tues. painting on Wedn. portraits Thurs. just too much but all needs to be done..
I'm waiting for a fax, can't do anything without it. I could look at these others but then my little brain will get all confused :)
I don't know what to do about my hairdresser situation. Me and Dave have/had a real good one, but the day before we left for the cruise Dave talked to him at 5:00pm and said we'd be there at 6:00. Got there at 6 and he left at 5:15. He's working at a new salon in Hot Springs Mall so I'm not sure what's going on, but I can tell ya Dave was Not happy, said he'll probably not go back to him. I know there's a crises going on, my hair dresser worked at a salon with another gal he's best friends with. The salon shut down and moved locations so him and his gal friend decided to open a salon by themselves. I don't know what's going on, but he told me he was moving because she was shutting it down and doing the salon thing out of her house, then I heard that he had to move away from her because of other issues and she's still got the salon open. Dave's looking for a new barber and I want to support him in his decision but dang he's a good hair dresser.
I used to go to Liz in a nearby town every Sat. morning at 8:00 a.m. for about 15 yrs.-she and hubby separated, then about 8 yrs after she met a man from Quebec and moved, sold her house..was skiing at Mount Tremblanc, had a fall and when she was at the hospital they found it was because the bone had been damaged from cancer..ended up cutting off her leg below the knee cap..she also wrote short stories of her travel all over Canada/USA on her motorcycle....guess the guy from Quebec couldn't deal with her leg cut of so she moved back into the area but is not doing hairdressing..I'd have followed her for 50 miles at least...Judith whom I just found seems good but since Liz's quitting I have never found another that does my hair well...
So can understand your quandry..good hairdressers are truly hard to find, when you find one, best you keep them...
Brought my material bag to the office, cutting out quilt blocks..and here I was saying I wanted to be retired, lordy I am retired just retired in a different place..lol
So do I keep him or do I try to find someone else? Is it unethical if you go to a salon that has multiple hair dressers and switch stylists in the same salon until you've seen everyone?
Many of the quick salons here do exactly that, you put your name on a list and when the first hairstylist becomes available when your name is up, you get your hair looked after...a few weeks ago I did that and got butchered...so learning a lesson, will keep trying tillI get someone that does a nice cut and do and I'm staying there for life...
Say a prayer will you please..Bernie's lawyer, the insurance company lawyer and agent's lawyer are meeting again today..sure hope there is a happy outcome otherwise he loses his home...
Good afternoon!
Well, I ve caught up with everything, today just working on some paper for Steve...It's going to rain today.
catch some movies while i play at the craft table...
Thank you Shar and Crissy for rose explanation! LOL, I was really shocked as you can tell. So since, she is so beautiful and I have made that bed into my memory garden I renamed the Rose to Carol's Love...Named after three Carols, my sister, mybestfriend and Carol Eades...
OMG She is absolutley Stunning!! Today She is fully opened! Carol, Thank you, charging Batteries as I type...She was beautiful in white but oh my the red bloom is just incredible.
OH Mary, Keeping your BIL in thoughts and prayers...I hope they catch that thief too, my goodness.
Crissy and Betty, hope you find a good hairperson!
Liz, glad you got a doc appointment, giggling over the outbrak with your mom...
Now Shar, drumming fingers, waiting to see your your BlueDress picture!! Come on show us your smile.
got to make some coffee! bbl.
Just a quick scan, have to help mom finish getting ready for our church lunch...then back to work at Doris's house. Feel a bit bad as Antonio finally called mom yesterday and she had to tell him since they couldn't reach him last week someone else did the work this month...I know he has a family to support....but Laura's family really needs the money too and while I am sorry, family comes first. I do know a couple of people who need some work done and I will give them Antonio's number as it is more suited to Antonio and his brother. Laura and I will stick to our local neighborhood for now.
Liz you take care....agree with Betty, if you are down to two just throw them away!!
When I was having all my heartburn and reflux issues was really strange.....I could eat tacos and hot peppers not problem, drinking plain water would cause horrible heartburn. Was quite strange.
Tandem: Bicycle built for two!
Waving to all I have missed but have to run...talk to you later!
Judy, rain rain go away! calling for rain here for next 3 or 4 days but today it's sunshine..only about 2 1/2 hrs. left and I'm spending it playing outside..just got back from lunch, omg I shouldn't have started to go to that sewing boutique down the road, ended up purchasing more material, then stopped in at the Italian bakery and got lunch well, it will do me for the day, brought it back with me...
Looking forward Judy to see photo of the roses..I'll have to go in search of a few plants, you've got me thinking it's something I should try as well..never had a rosebush live other than those little ones in the grocery store..do they count...
So what are you crafting Judy, can you tell...
Tubby, where are you? I sure hope all is well and you are just busy playing in the gardens.
woohoo, hope the time goes quickly for you Betty! Yep enjoy all the sunshine, it going to be raining all day, already poured twice.
On the craft table, working on the last of RWB, finishing a small dream catcher for Sistah Phylis, and a special something for a certain Brat who's birthday is Sunday! lol...not making a big deal about it because Liz, er, I mean my friend don't like it to be a big harry deal, roflol...
oops be back in a minute camera ready!
Ladies, I am just skimming through, and will not be on much for the next few days!
Hubby is in the hospital, and probably will need surgery. He passed out this morning, and I took him to the ER. They thought he was having a heart attack, but after all the test came back, he has a bad bleeding ulcer, that has left him with hardly any red blood cells, low oxygen levels, and severely anemic! So he has started one of four pints of blood transfusions, and The specialist will put scopes down into his stomach later today, to find out what kind of damage has been done, and what repairs are needed!
So please add him to t he prayer list!
Thanks so much!
LK
OMG LindaKay you must be frantic..we'll be praying for both of you...just shaking here...had he not been feeling well or did it just come on all of a sudden..yikes...
Judy, enjoy the rainy weather to get done inside what you've put off playing with those weeds..the rose looks velvet like...
He has been really tired for a few weeks now, and we just thought it was the hot weather! he works out on the flight line all day, and it has been more than 100 here for several weeks!
Looks like he will be getting a small vacation?
LK
Oh Linda Kay! Dear God, praying praying praying! That had to scare the heck out of you....and him!
You keep us posted as you can, and remember, you take care of yourself also, no sense running you down.
I am back from my day of adventures. My baby boy has his drivers permit! I let him drive this afternoon, and he was great....much better than my girls! At age 18, Shannon still has her permit...and is no where near getting her license as far as I am concerned.
Betty, Doctors appointment was pretty good....only minor scolding. And she told me she was proud of me. Gee, lost a whole 6 lbs in a month. BP is down to a good level right now...but she is still worried as I am showing signs of CHF issues...so must keep the weight coming off.
The not so good news, got home with a message to call the Dermo....and another one came back bad...which mean more surgery to remove further skin on that area....the abdomen of course. WHy they can't just do a complete tummy tuck and take it all.....I don't know!
I will be back in a bit, have to run DS down town.
Debbie
LindaKay, that's a hard way to get a vacation though..was listening to the news on my way in this morning and they were saying that 40% more men die of cancer/heart attacks etc. because they think they are too macho to make appts. when they aren't feeling up to par or on a regular basis..guess they are saying that women spend much more time in the doctors office...is he one of these men, the "I'm ok" kind of man..know with Roger it was always just a cold, tired, etc. etc. maybe this will be a warning that he has to spend time with regular check-ups when he's just not up to par....did you have to call the ambulance or did you drive him in...you must have been terrified...
Debbie it's a good news/bad news day for you...congratulations to your son..exciting time for him...what is CHF??? you are too cute...tummy tuck...why not..if I keep growing in size I want something...not sure what...lol..clock watching here, 6 more minutes and off into the sunshine..
