Sharran wrote: Chrissy is right about grafting. Those 'breeders' who create new species of roses do so by taking the root of a strong established rose, and they 'graft' to it, just above the root line, a sort of weaker one, but one that is of a specific color, and it takes on the old root and grows into the new transplanted color. I had a peace rose once, and a young man who mowed my yard. The peace rose was wonderful until he mowed over it about three times, and suddenly I no longer had a peace rose, but I had a red climber. I still like it though. What happens if if it is cut down below the line where it was grafted, it reverts back to its old color. And Debbie is right about plants changing colors because of the soil. Some soils leach the color right out (for lack of a better word) of a plant, like the peonies, and they become white. Congratulations to all of you who have good things happening, and prayers for those who need them. Judy, I'll look for the blue shirt/garden picture. Remind me tomorrow since I am ready to crash tonight. In the meantime, I'll share my rainbow... |
