What have you ordered for 2009_Part 8

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Me too, the rain is to blame. ^_^

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

That's gotta be it! :)

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I received a small order of DL's today, they were supposed to be shipped a few weeks ago, and I totally forgot about them...Imagine my surprise when I saw the box on the porch today!

I received: Baracuda Bay, Cherry Custard Cheesecake, and Eye on America

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Hemhostholic, I can't say that I am surprised that you are still getting DL's. I had to put a halt on ordering more until the ones from the last few years fill out. They tend to get into bigger clumps than I imagine when ordering them. Same with the big hosta. I have lots of space, but too many deer to plant them outside the deer fenced area and those two are just deer candy. Can't wait to see more of your pictures of all your work and new beds. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

meredith - i'm off recommending hcg anymore - i have one hardy 4 o'clock that died from this years order and three monarda that are still the same size from when they were delivered two months ago - plus half my order from last year did not come back. i will say all the different lavender came back and is getting large and ready to bloom when the rain stops.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

good to know Bill.

Thomaston, CT

I think Western plants have different needs & conditions than here---even if they're zone hardy. Thom, can't wait to see those DLs---'Carnival Mask' that I got from Two Stooges last month has a bud on it---I'm thrilled! Came home yest with an astilbe from WM---price was good, & condition was great----am trying to tame a wild area where DH parks his truck---right now, it's poison ivyville.

last purchase for a while

famous last words

Thomaston, CT

LOL---too true----when JMs are on sale, we'll see the true Bill!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Nice Kousa, Bill, though I have a hard time believing it will be your last purchase for awhile. I guess it depends on what your idea of awhile is.

I ordered 5 plants from HCG. Here's hoping they will do well. I do realize the plants they sell have different requirements than ones grown here. They get a lot less rain and humidity there than we do. I actually miss that.....

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Tomorrow ends a while.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yeah, but it will be humid as anything. That's the only drawback to summers here, otherwise it really doesn't get too hot. It's just the bleeping humidity I don't like.

Karen

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you guys are funny - i've spent enough and need to find a job - not much out there right now.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I am ordering iris from the coops going on now. Too many. No news in that. Patti

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

More, Patti? Will it ever end?

BTW, the hamamelis I bought through you from John are doing great. I was in that area a short time this evening pulling weeds. That will be a major project in itself! You should see the weed jungles I have in my back gardens, what with the tradescantia, goldenrod, raspberries, briars, Jerusalem artichokes (heliopsis that you can eat), quack grass, creeping Charlie, and other weeds I don't even know the names of, well, I have my work cut out for me. Oh, and I musn't forget a huge patch of mint. Sigh!!!!!!

Karen

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I also have great Hammamalis from John and Patti.
They will be such a treat next Feb when they bloom.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I am happy that both of yours are doing well. I know Wha's are, as I have visited them. Mine are doing well too, except for the couple of branches that my dear dog decided to eat. Bad. I hope they will put out blooms next winter. All the Ilex verticillata that I put in have leafed out nicely, but again, it will be a few years until they do much to make my yard a winter wonderland. Patti

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i also ordered some iris - that was last week

South Hamilton, MA

From where did you order?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

same coop as patti - there looks like there will be another starting soon

Thomaston, CT

And how does one find the coop?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

here is the link to the coop in progress and asking if another is wanted - beware these are hard to resist!!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

robin this one starts tomorrow - plan spending all day on the computer deciding what you want - read the rules carefully - there are only 5 of each variety and it is first come/first serve - write your list now and tomorrow copy and past it in to save time - good luck

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

My list is made and ready to post if I am at a computer tomorrow night. I think we are heading for Vt and to Tanglewood. I just finished my first major bulb order of the season to Brent and Becky. I wanted to get the 5% discount which pays for half of the shipping. I ordered new for my garden, narcissus, tulips, allium and spring iris, but I will hold off on many of the minor bulbs until they go on sale in Nov. I have a Van Engelen and Scheepers orders to send in too. Bulb nut for sure. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

My garden seems like tanglewood with all the weeds from the rain!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I can't keep up with the weeds.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

me either... going for mulch sat morning

Thomaston, CT

Put up more supports for the pole beans----getting out of control! Wish the peppers & eggplant would do something besides sit there.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm not gonna look at the iris co-op. As Bill said, they will be hard to resist!

Karen

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

me either!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

me either.
TBI's around here get eaten by the borer. Its a waste of time

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like iris, but they bloom for such a short time. And in a few years they stop blooming and have to be divided. Too much work. Way more bang for the buck (and per square foot) from other perennials and shrubs.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thats reason number 3

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I have borers. : (

I have a beautiful bloom to make up for it. This is one of my new roses, although I only have 'new' roses right now : ) She's a keeper.

Wow, you're right, Meredith---very pretty. I love iris---not much work---just rip out what you don't want & chuck into the compost---or give away! To me, they are very easy keepers. And their colors cannot be matched---that said, I passed up this co-op, but will join the Sept. one.

South Hamilton, MA

irises for me--see my user name.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I think I like the sibs and Jap irises best, as they are more prolific bloomers with less problems than the TBI's, though I do love my TBI's when they're blooming. They do so much better in a climate like the southwest has, though, as it's dry there.

Karen

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Do only the Bearded ones get Iris borers? Almost all my Iris here were free from a friend. I like them. I have a new one on order and one about to bloom for the first time that I bought a year ago. It was past bloom when I got it.
