What have you ordered for 2009_Part 8

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

WNYwillieB, better yet!

Wha,I may be up that next weekend through Monday. I will d-mail you when I have my plans nailed down. We have some social events that are not flexible, but I plan on doing some nursery crawling while up there. Sounds like a plan. Patti

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

risMa, My DH hid mine until I found it yesterday. I am bellied up to a Van Engelen right now. Patti

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Can you believe I got Josephine there for about 35? IT was a good size plant, but due to my own poor sighting, she had to be moved and it has set her back greatly.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you will love josie!

South Hamilton, MA

Don't have space for a van Englan, but reading Sheepers off & on. Need to replace Katharine Hodgken as we are down to one last spring. But that isn't the $35 minimum.

Thomaston, CT

Sheepers is so close to us---wish I could just pop in & get stuff, but you can't ---mail order only. Went to HD today to find a light fixture---found huechera 'Saturn' instead---they also had 'Pinot Noir", but it was sort of a dull color.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Came home today with huechera "Miracle' here...was looking for 'Tiramisu'. lol

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

both are very nice!!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i went to a different hd in nashua yesterday to pick up a couple indoor plants that my wife will kill in about 6 months (she has indoor watering duty). and saw they had kolkwitzia amabilis "dream catcher" from proven winners - it came home and now i looking for a filtered shade location:)

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I picked up some nice hydrangea yesterday at a speciality grower in Nantucket. I can't believe that I never went to visit these people before. What a treasure if you want interesting hydrangea. They have an immense collection of hydrangea and the owner is delightful. I just met him, not his wife who is apparently very involved too. He was beyond knowledgeable and helpful. I had him pick out some for me after I showed him the list that I am growing now. I never normally do that. He asked me all the right questions before deciding on what he thought I would like. He wants to see my garden. I am going to send him a few pictures of my hydrangea first. I am a bit shy about having people visit. He also grows viburnums. I could be in major trouble.

I bought these for 102.00 They have them in many pot sizes, but I went for 3 smaller ones and one bigger, Bits of Lace. They will grow quickly. Patti

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

You guys just never stop, do ya? ☺

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

no jen we don't - although i need too

received my replacement red baron jm today and a glowing embers jm from Davidsans - both were large with full branch structures - can't say enough good things about David and his new jm business!

Thomaston, CT

Glad I'm too cold for those hydrangeas!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Robindog, Maybe you aren't too cold for some of them.

Quoting:
Gardeners in zones 3 and 4 should rely on the arborescens and paniculatta for their hydrangea requirements
They have a list of what does well in colder zones but lots do well in zones 5 -6. What zone are you? Patti

Thomaston, CT

We are zone 5, but on top of a hill---gets a very cold wind---I have had success with Endless Summer, & it looks like Lady in Red has a bloom coming---Blushing Bride is hardy here also, but I haven't planted it yet. But that's it for the colorful ones ---I do have a PeeGee that's huge, & it looks nice once the blooms turn copppery.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Allison, I bought Tutti Frutti ag last year and mine did fine through the winter, but it was in the ground, not in pots in the ground. Maybe wet feet? They like it really well drained and often when they die over the winter it's because the drainage wasn't good enough for them.

Jo Anne, as for Apricot Sprite, DG lists it as good to zone 6, but Thompson and Morgan has it listed for zones 7-10, a half hardy perennial.

Robindog, I did not make it to Dummerston, VT today. Just didn't have the time. Would have had to leave super early, and though my Dad and I wouldn't have had a problem with it, my friend Karen would not have been able to get out that early. Will have to do it another time. Might make a day trip up there in July before my RU.

Patti, thanks for the info on all those places in VT near Walker's farm. Now I will definitely have to make a day trip up there in July. I'm taking off a week prior to my RU, so I think I will use one of those days to go up there. Woo hoo!!!!!

Nice plants everyone has been getting. Bill, I have been wanting that Dream Catcher Kolkwitzia. I'm green with envy!

This past week I bought 3 plants at a local nursery. I got 2 different kinds of Lamb's Ears, one with very large leaves, and one with smaller than normal leaves. Also got a hairy campanula that has white flowers.

Karen

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Karen I think the problem was I planted it in the fall... didn't get time to get well rooted

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

That could be. I planted mine in August, I think. I also planted ag 'Black Adder', and that one came back, too. I love it!

Karen

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Bill. Got two replacement JM's. Another Koto no ito and an Englishtown. I'll get pics.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Sorry I cant remember what Ive posted.
You'll like them togetherWatson also liiks great with Gold Drop a smaller version.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

another koto no ito? Englishtown is what patti got from diana from topiary gardens i believe. yeah i'll grab a pic of the glowing embers (nice tree) and the red baron. ge is in the ground where the stewartia was and red baron will go on the hill along the driveway behind my koto no ito after i move out a big rody. i have temporarily put the stewarthia in a large container, fortunately it had not grown any rot system which i thought was kind of strange since it was planted last fall. very healthy though.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Happy Father's Day to all you Dads! Stayed in all day except to go out to dinner with my little sis and Dad. Just got back from there. What a gloomy day. Couldn't do any yard work.

Nice Glowing Embers JM, Bill! Working hard, as usual, I see.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

I have a few more DL's coming:

Sanford Star Search (07-Morss), Dixie Highway (07-Stamile), Southbound Odyssey (07-Smith), Goldenzelle (07-Smith), and Crazy Ivan (06-Smith)

I also have a few more hostas coming:

Tropical Storm, Frosted Mouse Ears, American Halo, and White Elephant. (I started to "collect" the Blue Mouse Ears sports this year, along with the Striptease Sports, so far I have 8 Striptease Sports and 3 Mouse Ears sports :-)

I went to one of my local garden centers and picked a few odds and ends also. I picked up 2 Amsonias 'blue star' and a new Ligularia..can't remember the cultivar at the moment, the leaves are the same color as Britt Marie, but they are smaller and ruffled, it looks sorta like a tall Heuchera.
