What have you ordered for 2009_Part 8

Falmouth, ME(Zone 5b)

hmmm not sure which was my very first. One of my firsts was CHRISTMAS CAROL which is a nice plant all around. Also, LEEBEA ORANGE CRUSH was a first and I still grow it. I have a few that I just love that are older ones like DALLAS STAR (a favorite for sure) and it will always grow here.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Lhill do you have a picture of dallas star? has to be blue i would guess

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

'Dallas Star' is one of my favorites also! Never fails to perform beautifuly.
Bill, Not blue, there is no such thing as a blue lily but they are working on it! lol

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i looked it up on plant files - looks kinda light lavender - think i'll have to get that one being a cowboys fan

South Hamilton, MA

Oh ugh, Bill. Now if you get gold with a green eye, it could be dedicated to the Packers. Only DL in bloom is Three Seasons--very small flowered lemon, earlier that any of the big ones.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I just got a Dallas Star from a DG classified add this year. It is still small and it had a scape with buds on it but they ?bolted. (If that's the right term) I think it's because I moved it. It looked like a beauty in pictures.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Here is my new Crocosmia Lucifer I picked up at Countrybrook Farms. I went during a break in the rain and as soon as I opened the door to my car it started raining again. I went into the barn area trying to wait for it to let up. IT did just enough for me to deal with walking around in it with no jacket or umbrella. I am starting to get sick of the rain now.

I really like it... now I just need to figure out where to plant. : )

Another old favorite DL would be 'Bela Lugosi', 'Indian Giver' and 'Pandora's Box' but my favorite is 'Rocky's Eye' just because the bud count is OUT of this world!! It starts the 1st or 2nd week in July and is still blooming in Aug. !!!!!!!!

Can't find a good photo of DALLAS STAR... in this picture it looks thinner than it normally looks to me... and it looks more lavender to me (in real life.. )... love it...

INDIAN GIVER is such a pretty color and its a good performer. I have ROCKY'S EYE too... yes, excellent bud count on it for sure.

Gorgeous!

Thank you!

Wow---liked them all! My fav, right now, is the one I think is Egyptian Ibis---it may not be, but it's a grand bloomer for me. My earliest ones I started from seed---they are mostly yellow & orange, but some are quite pretty----not as full of blooms though as the hybrids.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

That Dallas Star is a real beauty! I, too, have Rocky's Eye, and what a performer and great looking flower. Here's a pic of mine.

What a gorgeous hydrangea.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

That is a very pretty hydrangea!

It looks a lot like the serrata I just asked Victor about on Garden Photo Thread #30 called Pretty Maiden (or Komachi)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hope the pix are right.
No pix from me until next year,I also bought Lavendar Dew
KissyFace,Night Beacon and they threw in
Northfield.

Thomaston, CT

Thanks, folks---usually it's Thom who gets the bargains---K-Mart had about 5 varieties of hydrangea that I could see, & all the plants were huge---every color that they come in. Jo Ann----sounds like you made out well, also! Here is the new one planted already....

This is supposed to be 'Endless Summer' also planted in that garden, but the blooms seem larger, & the color too blue for ES...

Van Bourgandins (sp?) catalog arrived.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

my catalog went into the recycling pile - and i walked into and out of a nursery yesterday empty handed

South Hamilton, MA

Are you OK?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

well i did go to the nursery with cash in my pocket to get a certain conifer - and the one they had was not in good shape so i turned around and left - have done this twice now at two different places

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Which De-Tox Program are you following, Bill??

Is the doctor any good?

^_^

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

well being temporarily out of work seems to be the ticket:)
Although i do not recommend it.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I agree with Karen, nice selection fo daylilies Jo Ann. 'Night Beacon' is one beautiful DL.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

We were way poor when I was growing up, so I know all about that situ (Buffalo has a long history of being at the top of the list of poorest cities).

I have a hunch that is why I still would rather grow many plants from seed than buy one plant already grown for the same price.

Firm grasp of the value of the dollar, here, for sure!

Plus, I am almost still young enough that I can afford to wait and watch things grow.
