Well, Sage and I got our first Frog stepping stone poured tonight (the boring part).....tomorrow we get to unmold and decorate it..the fun part....will get a picture as soon as it is out of the mold.....I think she is going to want to get more cement tomorrow!
Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #108 visit with friends!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Linda Kay..singing off key here, do hope you don't mind...may the day be filled with sunshine....
Oh my, Greg must be right, I am getting old, had supper last night, sat for awhile and ended up sleeping well past 1:00 at which time off to bed I went..soooo should be well rested for my day..
Although they had called for a beautiful day it will be overcast but NO rain...
OMG Liz, must have given you quite a scare? reading your antics with previous injuries and illness..don't think you'd make a good patient but you'd be entertaining for sure...lol
Trisha, I'm on my way for more cement this morning, figure if I'm going to make leaves I might as well make a few, besides, as I look out at the garden, there isn't much more to do..edging yes, but that's about it... can't wait to see your and Sage's project...have you ever though to take mactac and cut it in the shape of your mold..go to dollar store and purchase some of the glass flat globs, stick them to the mactac and then pour your cement...would really give him a glitter in the sun..just a thought..
Mary, I'm sure you are too hard on yourself...bet you get the position...my only concern is that it sounded as though they had to drum up more business before hiring, did I misunderstand that? if so, then I'd be concerned that I'd give up my job and then there wouldn't be any work.. I'm sure you've checked it out though...when you said your wisteria wasn't in full sun well perhaps that's the problem with mine so today I'll dig her up and plant her somewhere in full sunshine...
Debbie, love the quote..guess as we all are aging, that's exactly how we should arrive at the finishing line...my body is starting to look quite like the quote says..better beat it up some more...you've had quite a scare with Carrie..you never have a dull moment sweetie, always something ..hope you get to enjoy playing in the sunshine today...
Bev, you probably aren't feeling well as you've had a traumatic experience last week..do you have ulcers?
Judy, is there a weed left in that garden of yours?
Trisha, your garden art and design is beautiful...bet you are so pleased..pretty sad when we work only to spend it all on our gardens..lol..not, making earth a little bit of heaven..and yours is looking so pretty...
Ohhh Linda Kay, must tell you, when I sent our your 'fat quarter swap' pkg. I took it with the tracking just to make sure, think it was $14.30 (something like that) then I had a teeny, light weight package to send to Twyla and they wanted $13.10 imagine..hardly a thing in it well I just wouldn't pay that amound..came home and the Post Office girl helped me change the package somewhat and mailed it without tracking and it was still $6.80..I just can't believe how the system works..your package was heavy, double the size and they wanted but pennies less for Twyla's...shaking my head...oh well guess they have to stay in business right?
Gabbed long enough, Atlas Block should be open and perhaps there might be a few garage sales...
Be back on break..
Ohhh.Bev! Thanks so much!
The little hidden tea room amid the lilac trees facing the neighbor (I've planted trees in hopes they grow big enough to hide his yard..lol) are hundreds of iris..because they are so shaded they don't bloom as well as they should..see a tree has fallen on his side, guess I'll pull it out so it doesn't kill the iris and burn it..might be a nice night for a campfire...you bring the marshmallows please..
Couldn't have gone more than an hour but it was long enough to get into trouble...
Managed to purchase another 4 stepping stones and 2 more bags of cement for rhubbarb leaves..they close at noon and are just down the street so I'll start this project, might need to do more, just thought of a creative idea to use them...
I'd be in trouble if I had a truck!
Then I found a garage sale..could have done mega damage there had I had room for the furniture they were selling..beautiful...
But I did purchase a few things...all for $15.00
Nice bronze/black table $10.00
Med. size roaster/new $ 1.00
Potato Ricer $ 1.00 just like the one grandma used to make me my favorite string potatoes for a 'treat'..hers was metal - a must have in memory of her..think I'll make some tonight...lol
Candle Set for $3.00, had to have as it has a red plate..going to set it up on back set I panted red...
I'm a happy camper, just started my day and already I've got a smile on my face... doesn't take much to make me happy does it...
Already I've walked the gardens to see where to put my new 'art' think I've found a place..will get a plant for it this aft....seems to match the door metal mirror with the black/bronze look..perhaps it will age a bit more when it starts to rust...
What do you think? do I leave it there or find it another home..had thought where the metal chair and staircase garden is that I could also paint it white with metal paint...what to do, what to do...
Break is over, off to Bernice's and cut some rhubbarb...not only can I do a craft with them but I also get to eat the stalk...
Looks like your neighbor's flowers in the shade are daylillies not Iris right Betty?
good morning,
oh thanks all a little better today but it is still there and my mother found out ahhhh
darn sister cant keep a secret! so i know not to tell them anything oh well, mother already started on me being suicidle wearing hormone patch and smoking told her to mind her bussiness and look at herself!
so now to begin a productive day lol
betty nice finds match you area nice
yard is looking great!
trisha cool find i like that!
carol,bev omg beauties!
hello everyone hope you are enjoying the day got to go run my errands before the crouds start.. later
I'm so laughing Liz, you sound your old self, makes me happy..can just see you getting riled up and telling your mom that..omg, wouldn't dare tell mine that...lol
Ahhh Bev, daylillies, yep that's what they are, orange right? pretty bad when you can't tell an iris from a lily..going to mark that in my garden journal right now so you won't have to tell me same thing next year..
Trisha, worked with 3 bags of cement, 2 were perfect as always..the 3rd had no cement mixed in the stone, you only find that out after you've started the leaves..I'm soaking wet and dirty, I'd run and get more but don't think I'd make their noon closing..I'll call them on Monday, am sure they'll replace it..just what I need, planning next weekend before I finish this weekend...
Might even sit and have a bowl of rhubbarb..luckily I remembered it on the stove and got to it before burning point..drats, one shouldn't cook while doing outside gardening should they...
I did dig up the shrub that had been eaten, going to spray water/soap on it, replant it in another area where no one will see it..lol and who knows, might come back to life..
Off to find dry clothes...got to get Greg to fix where the hose attached to the spray unit..I've more water on me than the plants have...
Enjoying my day, hope yours is the same!
Morning everyone. Just had a great pancake breakfast, personalized. Hubby put my initials in the pancakes! ^_^Thanks for the Birthday wishes! Just gonna take it weasy today!
Betty the pineapple upside cake I make starts with a box of pineapple cake mix, but I use the juice from the sliced pineapples, instead of water.
Melt some butter, and place it on the bottom of the cake pan, then lots of brown sugar. Place pineapple slices, then cherrie, then pour the cake mix on top! Bake as directed. I bake mine about 5 - 10 more minutes, cause I like the brown sugar nice and sticky! Turn over onto a plate, and enjoy! I put whip cream on mine sometimes!
I will post a picture when I et it done!
Betty, your garden get more lovely each time you show it! Very nice on the garage sale finds!
Ladies, so sorry to hear of all the bad heartburn. So glad it was not more serious.
LK HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
LindaKay, sounds as though you are getting spoilt..good for you..you deserve it! tell DH I said so....that ought to make me brownie points..lol
I got dressed in a flash, went to Atlas Block and they gave me 2 more bags of cement, gizzzz I wasted my best leaves on the not so good cement...will have to take a walk over to Bernice's, there are only small leaves left but that's ok..want to rid myself of the cement..
HELP/HELP
Dug up the shrub that all the leaves were eaten, not sure if it was tent caterpillars or another critter but it's sick..my question is to you..I have planted it in another location..sprayed it well with soap/water and will do so again..if it were you would you cut all the branches off and hope next year it survives or just leave it now and see what happens...can see some green branches although bare?
Guess I shouldn't feel badly, there are more than 30 shrubs, infact more like 40..this is the only one that doesn't look healthy, all others are growing well...
Bought a miniature 'mock orange' already in bloom..say it won't get higher than 4'..I had an entire yard of them at the farm and in the spring the smell was to die for...last year bought 2 or 3 but I believe they are a different type of mock orange as well..still no flowers on those...
Just next to the mock orange was the location of the sick shrub, might take some of the soil out, amend with new and purchase something more colorful...
always something..
Have hamburger on, haven't decided if it will be spaghetti, stuffed peppers or divide mixture, so some adding to it and have both..always nice to have something in the freezer...
My physical energy will be short lived..have more cement slabs to dig into the ground, will do the bags of cement I have, only takes a few minutes, wash down the back deck cafe..bit on the dusty side then it's inside for the rest of the day..might even take the sewing machine out and play tonight, all those slacks the MIL brought are still not done and I'd love do do some quilt blocks..we'll see..could also mean an evening on the couch..if I keep pushing I can work to beat the devil, it's when I say I'll have a short break...things go wrong then..
Betty, if it were me, I think I would at least isolate that shrub. You don't want it to spread to the others! If there is new growth, it may come back, but I think I would get rid of it!
Good luck.
Think I'll unplant it..not worth taking a chance right?
thanks LindaKay..
Bernice was over, Michelle her daughter works at a seniors home and she wondered because I've got seating all over the yard and the pond would I mind if they did a tea in the yard...I'd be thrilled for them to do so..great compliment from Bernice, I always aspire for my yard to look like hers..now here she is telling me she wants to bring them here...sure made me feel good...
I am cooking spaghetti sauce so said I'd bring over supper for her and Cliff, he's playing at the seniors home today, Elvis impersonator is coming in..they sure do entertain their clients well...so it will be nice for her not to cook..
We checked the chain link fencing near the gazeby and of course the neighbors have done nothing to repair it, I've golden hops growing .. the metal has left the main frame so off I go to home depot and pick up black large ties in hopes that I can salvage it before the hops get out of control (which in this case I want them to)...
So my sitting for a visit is over..time to get back to work...Bernice says she can see the corner of my garden between the 2 houses, always knows when she should come over so that I quit working and rest..purpose to her visit...
Betty, love that new table right where it is....and the coloring is perfect. You don't want everything white...I think the coloring adds great character....is it the angle or not...table top flat? Looks like it is beveled out to me...and if so some birdseed in that would be a great feeder.
Wasn't me with the wonderful quote....I have seen it before, and it is awesome. Do you think the doc will buy that line when I tell her Tuesday why my BP is still up! LOL
Mary, we had quite a scare with Carrie. She has been so distant the last couple months, just not coming around and communicating like normal. Come to find out, she really hadn't been feeling well, and was seeing a doctor. Lots of details in between there...but we found out yesterday she has Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease. She is only 23, and quite the kid....been married almost two years, and although I love all my kids...she has a very special place in my heart. She is going to have quite a struggle ahead of her staying healthy, and especially so if they decide to have children.
I am loving all the flower pictures. You are giving me such great ideas....and the colors of all your flowers are so pretty.
I have been moving non-stop since early this morning, and had a late night, so I have to get up and move before I go into nap mode....and can't do that as DD has to be to work at 4:00!
Debbie
Debbie, let's hope they take a breather, she wouldn't want to get pregnant right now with so many health issues..we want a strong baby!!!
As me, spent 7 of my 9 months in the hospital while pregnant because I was too stubborn (young) to listen..the 2 they had to take away - same reason...
She's still quite young, another year or so will put her back on the road to recovery...
Know what you mean about stopping..just came in to make sure I wasn't burning the spaghetti sauce..imagine, telling Bernice and Cliff I'd be bringing over supper, even have a bread cooking and then have to call and say I burnt it..nope..wouldn't be nice although it wouldn't surprise them...
Home Depot had the big plastic ties they use for plumbing and hydro..started to list and attach to the main fence...when I was leaving for Home Depot mom and 14 year old came out, doing some flowers, so I mentioned that I would go get the ties to try and repair the fence, that way hops could give us both privacy (more me than she) but she went on to say the elder boy was going to work, the 14 year old was going to help her garden and Darren would be back until late...
So as I'm trying to fix the fence there they are just sitting, so I called over and said, 'excuse me, this isn't my fence, I'm trying to salvage it for you, DO YOU THINK I could have a hand for 2 minutes, no more" Derek came over, at first not too pleased but I kept saying how nice it was of him to help, about 5 thank you's and when the job was over thanked him again and he said 'no problem Betty, anytime' right....
I spoke to Darren once, here he is working 12 hr. shifts, comes home while 2 teens are sitting virtually doing nothing and he is cutting grass in the dark..asked him why these 2 young strong fellows could do it, and Darren said it wasn't worth the fight with his wife..she doesn't believe in making kids work...well that explains the difficulties she's now having..enough of my preaching, job is done...
Also picked up a ninebark to replace the sick tree...I've several around the pond and they are lovely...plant is only about 2 or 3ft. but you have to start somewhere...
Betty, they weren't trying to have a baby. She was downright sick....went to the doctors for severe cramping all month and cycle issues....and this is the trouble they found.....and they discoverd this was the problem she was sick throughout the body....hormones so out of wack....and the potential of pregnancy issues in the future. They want kids in the future...just not right now.
Still no nap....the cat stole my spot...and he is dang cute I hate to move him. But, I will. LOL
Debbie
Sorry Debbie, knew somewhere I read they wanted children, thought perhaps that's when she ran into problems...better read better right..must be the eyesight..thank goodness, 2 more weeks and new glasses...
I so laugh Debbie, Riley stays out all night but the minute she sees a light on she's at the door...she runs downstairs , eats and then up on my bed...which means I have to make it the second I get up otherwise she growls when I try to get her to move..so now it's easier, one foot off the bed, second foot off the bed, make the bed and relax...
Isn't it funny, if it were one of the children or relative we've ask them to move for us but our kitties, no way!
Drats, forgot dog food...
In the house stirring sauce, I so don't want to burn it..breadmaker timer says 50 minutes so just called Bernice and said they'd have to eat 20 minutes later than usual unless they don't want homemade bread..1/2 for me and 1/2 for them...sure smells yummy, especially putting honey in the mixture...my mouth is watering...
Back upstairs I go...
Sure hope you've all enjoyed your day...wonders what sunshine will do..
Betty, I got the box and I love it. Check out the swap forum!!!
Hello To All;
Bev - You've got to tell me what type of lily that is and where I should plant it...that is gorgeous! Do you know the "Daves Garden" name for Lilies? I thought I saw some flowers like that at the nursery only they didn't say "lily" anywhere....
Hello Betty - The spaghetti sounds delish! Send some this way! You sure did get some good garage sale finds....
I just yelled to DH and he says - yes - wisteria like full sun. Ours were on a trellis in mostly shade and sadly- all leaves are brown today because I didn't know to water it. Yes - you understand correctly...The companies interested in me aren't providing much in the way of what we call a "List" of potential clients. I do know that another (Better) company is about to lose a salesperson...so I'm going to hang tight and see what happens then....My biggest client is friends with their sales manager and told me she'd give me a reference...
Carol - love your wisteria....so sad mine are gone!
Everyone has such gorgeous iris! Mine were pretty back in March or so...but all but gone now...
I did get my red hibiscus to finally bloom....I have a pic but was waiting to see if I could get one more stunning to show (off) to you all....LOL
Debbie - My prayers for Carrie! I do try so hard to keep up with everyone on here but must have missed that...So now they've caught it....it's treatable I take it?
MIL and I decided to "do" Fathers Day tomorrow - 1 week early. BIL has heart surgery Tuesday and will be recovering for 6 weeks.
So DH & I went shopping and I found for my Dad the cutest card (Snoopy on a motorcycle) and gift (POW/MIA and Air Force flags for his Goldwing Trike). We bought a tiller for FIL - going in with BIL on that so he won't have to get anything. And I snuck out later and got a couple shirts and 2 Pool Rafts for DH. (I have to put Dad's in the mail)
Should be a nice day tomorrow.
Be back later....
Mary
I'm sure he'll enjoy the gift Mary...
Bernice just called, woke me up, yep, snoozed again...thanked me for the wonderful meal..no wonder I don't cook, cooked for about 20..made a container for Cathy and her parents for tomorrow, froze 2 big portions for me and still think I have enough to call Greg/Mel to come and get it for tomorrow's supper...
When I brought Bernice their bread and spaghetti, crossing the street on my way back there were 5 teen girls laughing and going up the street, stopped in front of them and told them " how nice it must be to enjoy youth, laughing and not a care...go enjoy yourselves..." they looked at me strangely and said thank you lady....must have said out of hearing 'who was that quack?"
Barb, wish I would have asked if you did a lot of gardening before getting your Red/White/Blue swap gift made..lol..maybe Norm can make use of it...
Feel chilled to the bone so off to bed I go...
Best of today...just truly enjoying God's beauty..a lot of it is in my yard...
Worse of Today...no worse...
What did I learn today...attract more bees with honey...a few thanks you's and Derek next door didn't seem to mind helping...
Good Lord willing we'll gab tomorrow
Night/Night
OMG Trisha, it's to die for...talk about garden art...do you grout the area where the glass is? Love it..must look for a mold..
Yes you grout between the glass, we got this one at Michael's.
It seemed to have a bit of both...yellow fading into orange....I still have the asiatic lily I tried that the squirrels ate the flowers on . Wonder if I put it back in the ground if it will flower again?
Guess I need to do some research on Daves Garden - not gab all the time. LOL
Trisha - I would LOVE to see the finished product! Did you do the swirls with pencil? I could see you doing a ladybug one day... So Precious - this is Sage's first one?
Betty - OMG! Those girls are still scratching their heads.....HMM? LOL!
Back in a bit...
Mary
Betty, with regards to those young girls. I find parents of my age were drilled into teaching our kids "DO NOT talk to strangers!" And I find when someone stops to talk to teens these days...they first get a look of "should we run" or is this person Ok. I know most don't mean it...but it is drilled in them from preschool up about stranger danger. Ya just really never know when a wonderful woman walking down the street being polite could turn into a demented ole coot of a man in drag and carry them off! LOL
Mary, I don't think Iever posted on here about my Carrie. Not in that aspect of her having problems. I have a thread on Prayers...I think we are up to #23 or so, that was started a little over a year ago when my Mom was so sick...and I have just kept it going. Seems there is always some type of chaos going on around here....and I could really do without it! I say many times...I truly long for a dull moment!
Unfortunately, Carries illness is not curable...it is manageable. "If" she follows doctors directions to the "T" should be able to help her respond and be pain free. She is at a high risk for other disease because of this illness, including diabetes...which already runs in our family I find out.
Speaking of Carrie, I got a new picture of her....OK, I have a couple. This is her with some of her "babies".
Bev - That's gorgeous! I would love to plant one somewhere in my back yard....where do they do best? Sun/Shade/Moist/drained...etc?
Debbie - Carrie is precious - those pictures look almost professionally taken...they really capture a moment... So Carrie loves animals....she is so petite! Probably very much like how I heard my Mom was at that age....
I suppose with watching her diet and doing whatever the DR.'s tell her.....she can get through this...My prayers with her!
((((HUGS))))
Mary
Looks like another sunshine day..imagine 2 in a row, I'm quite impressed..
Bev...27 blooms..it's just so beautiful, the color striking..can't wait to see what mine are..last year is a long time ago to try and remember..lol
You've beautiful girls Debbie...much like mom...
Getting hard for some on dial up to access so am moving us over...
