Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #108 visit with friends!

Baton Rouge, LA

That does sound tedious! I'll send you a Coke - sometimes that wakes me up. :)

Got my second interview so depression is lifting a bit. DH says 'be patient'! Been job searching 2 days now...

Hugs,

Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Your hubby is right Mary...omg..you aren't very patient..lol..2 days...how long did it take you to find the last one? you are just too cute...

It's freezing outside, can you imagine, they are saying possible frost tonight..just on my way to turn the furnace up for both main floor and basement..ohhh brrrr...

Bought my bingo cards, does that mean I will win?

Now to stay awake until 8pm..going to start giving coats to floormat...about 1 every half hour so that by bedtime it will be done, might take out my sketching, anything to keep me awake...

What do you all have planned for this evening?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Mary 2 whole days!! Waaaaaayyyyyyyyyy too cute Mary ((((((((HUGS))))))))

What do I have planned, watering the plants is on the agenda since I didn't do it last night, I'm sure everything is wilted. Since it's my second evening by myself I realized yesterday that I am quite spoiled with Dave cooking dinner for me all the time, I'm hoping he made something this afternoon and left leftovers for me LOL Other than that, I have no idea, will have to see what the evening brings I guess. I have about 100 things I could do if I wanted to, but that's no fun! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

So Dave has now started his new shift? Guess it will take time to get both of you into a routine...my Roger did all the cooking as well, even cooked enough to make t.v. dinners so I'd not starve the boys..no wonder they think I can't cook...

Wilted??? we'll be lucky to not have some frost damage to ours..can't believe the weather...sure missing out on spring...

Gave first coat to the floormat now I'll see what I'll have to eat..maybe there is a t.v. dinner left in the freezer..you lucky guys..home cooked meals..not worth it just for 1....

Better go look for magnetic bingo chips and wand, have no clue where I put them...

Betty I like those planters....looks like Laura and I have another project to add to our list....

Laura is here, we have been cleaning out a half barrel liner that I am giving her to make her small pond/fountain. Sean is dropping Sage off and they are going to hang out here while we are on our bike ride then we will throw something on the grill for dinner afterwards.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty your new floor rug looks wonderful.. I'm amazed at how you matched the colors to the pillows.
Had a fairly lazy day today. Made two quilt blocks to send out. Sat and just chatted with Norm for almost two hours.... It's funny the things we think each other knows and then find out they don't!! I'll take a phone call from one of our kids and think he knows everything that was said. Duh!!!! Just a senior moment I guess.
Trisha, glad to hear your MIL is doing well. Patience with your sister my friend. This too shall pass. Enjoy your ride...
Good luck with your Bingo tonight. Let us know how rich WE are okay?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Drats, now I remember why I gave up playing bingo..needed 0-68 for about 10 numbers...called 3 - 0's and mine wasn't one of them..oh well, someone else must have needed the $2,000 more than I..sure does make your heart beat quicker...

Barb, got to get a couple of mine out this weekend as well...printed off a few of the months but lordy I'm having trouble finding anything USA patriotic in color here in Canada...

Trisha, how far was your ride? Suzanne is telling me if she can get her schedule organized we'll ride every Sat. morning at 7am..I'm for it but doubt with what she always has on her plate that she'll be able to...

Now that my adrenaline is going to beat the dickens I'm off to bed...

Best of today...just having an enjoyable day all around...

Worse of the day...hearing that my SIL Marg isn't doing well..they are keeping her in the hospital..the think it's enjina (?) I should learn to spell..lol

What did I learn today? Niece at work told me when she was in her teens she wrote a few stories that got published in a local newspaper, then got interested in boys and there went her writting, but she's decided with time on her hands that she'll write..asked me if she could send me bits as she writes to see what I think ....not sure I can help but would love to read it...

Good Lord willing we'll gab tomorrow

I counted today and there are more than 75 in bloom, and only one or two on each plant. So a few days from now it'll be a real show.

Baton Rouge, LA

Gorgeous daylilies Sharran!

You are right Crissy& Betty - I do need more patience! I just feel 'guilty' I guess taking these vacation days to look for the new job....If i'm not 100% busy the whole time....

Betty- I can't believe you are having frost tonight! I hope the plants are okay. We got up to 103 degrees today in the sun....But was a gorgeous day and my red hibiscus have finally bloomed...planted them last year...they died back but are pretty as ever now...

Betty - is it angina? or something like that. My prayers for all the friends & famlies who need them out there....

Back in a bit - Hugs to All...

Mary

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Angina, I don't remember what that is, I'll have to look it up.

Yea Betty Dave started swing shift yesterday. He's already in a better mood LOL. He made some sort of bbq flavored hamburger meat sauce, so I made spaghetti noodles, put some cheddar cheese in it, and it was delicious! Oh phooey, I have something on my contact. Drats and more Drats!

Oh yea, by the way, I'm liking these contact things, they're kinda difficult to get used to because they slightly move sometimes and they can itch, and the left one doesn't fit right all the time, but it's so much better than wearing glasses. I'm not continuously looking around frames! I'm actually getting to where I'm not rubbing my makeup off 2 hours into my shift.

Well, have a great night, sorry you didn't win a Bingo, now I wanna play and I wish I remembered where I saw Bingo on TV, I'm thinking it was when we first moved here and lived in the apartment and had a small local cable company. I bet there's a place to play online! Oooo better not go there, you'll never see me again, but you'd know where to find me!

See ya'll in the am!

Baton Rouge, LA

Nite Nite Crissy! Bless you for trying out contacts! I was not brave enough.....

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Betty, our Tuesday/ Thursday night rides vary from 20 to 35 miles depending on how hilly it is...Sunday rides can be 40 or 50.....used to do up to 100 or so in a day...but that was a long time ago....age is catching up with us.....these days anything over 40 and I am done for the week.
Prayers for your SIL and so many other DGer's family members who are in need.

Shar love the beautiful flowers!!

Love my contacts, just hate having to have Readers.....going to ask my Doc if I can wear the multi-focal ones..

talk to ya later Mary.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, no frost but still mighty cold and damp out there...can tell it's not been a good week, Sailor can hardly move...hoping sunshine and warth will bring her around..

Shar..I especially love the red one..omg that's a lot of lilies..you all have me hooked..July 1st is a big event in Elmvale, I bought 5 or 6 last year, will go again this year and purchase 10 or so..I'm keeping away from the lily farm up the street..that would mean mega trouble and I think from what I hear they are priced far too high..your yard must look like the Garden of Eden Shar... how pretty and your roses, are most of them in bloom...could you take a photo of the gardens? would love to see it..

Trisha, I was fine Monday/Tuesday but this morning my knee is hurting..takes a few days I guess before the pain hits..omg that's a lot of miles..and hills to boot..one thing about our trails, the were old train lines that now have been upgraded and paved so pretty much flat as a pancake... good for me and the older ones...I do think though once the trail is paved right into Midland town proper that I would on a Saturday morning ride in, shop (for whatever would fit in the storage box) and enjoy the morning...interesting to see if Suzanne will come on Sat. at 7am..lol

Mary - 103...wow, poor plants must get damaged as much as ours in the cold..you just couldn't sit outside and enjoy...

Crissy wish I was younger, I'd try contacts...

Bev any news on DGD??? How is Scotty, things like this must really upset him...

Barb, don't remember you posting much about gardening, you are a gardener? what is your favorite things to plant or does Norm do much of it?

Tonight I have class, tomorrow it's my cat scan and then off to the city to apply for passport so another full day..I'm planning on NOT doing a 'to do' list for the weekend..believe I've accomplished most of my outside chores except the front gardens, them I can play an hour or so here and there on them...

Time to get myself ready, love leaving 1/2 hr. early and taking a leisurely drive..still have cement in my trunk, too wet outside to take it out...

Still thinking about that 'bingo' game...should have given me my last number..a riding lawnmower would have been sitting in my yard tonight...lol

Morgan is doing better thanks but is still convulsing. They tried a new med and called in a couple more docs and were going to do a scan this morning. BEV

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well thankfully they are on top of it Bev...scan should provide them with necessary info so they can get her on the road to recovery! sending prayers for Morgan, grandma/grandpa and Rick...

Drats my leg is paining, went and found a box to put it up on..might help...

Had an interesting ride in this a.m. Left early as I had planned to..travelled 1/2 hr. then stopped at a coffee house..line up was long so as usual I watch people...there was a couple sitting at the front window having coffee/toast, both looking intently out the window, both lost in their own thoughts..they peaked my interest so rather than take my coffee to go I took a table a few down from them...must have been there for 10 minutes, not once did they talk to each other, odd glance towards each other from time to time but not once said a word! Just as I was leaving they got up, again not a word, as one started towards the door the other followed...I left at same time and my car was parked ahead of theirs..I walked slowly and as they got in the car NOT one work..I thought how lonely they must be even though they are together...just struck me odd and reminded me that when you are on your own you don't have to be alone..some are together and are more alone than I..does this make sense???? probably not, I 'm rambling...

Gave 3 more coats to my floorcloth so should be able to put it outside under the table/chairs tonight...

Found a couple of plastic scrubber under my counter so stopped in at Walmart and got more cotton yarn to match the scrubber color..that ought to take me 1 hr. to do then what???

I had thought of bringing in a photo to sketch, went through a few pkgs of photo's that I had set aside to do scrapbooking..wasn't a good thing, most of the people I cherished are now dead...couldn't believe as I went through the photo's .. so that didn't make me sad...

But, the sun was starting to peep through the clouds, could be a glorious day after all...

While I'm moaning/groaning and rambling on, what do you all have planned for the day..sure hope it's keeping me company..lol...need it today!

Glenview, IL

Good Morning!

Betty, bummer your leg is hurting! Why?
I sure hope the sun does come out today, man, joining in the grumbling, I am tired of cold!!

Oh my, your new floor mat is incredible...I love that your using the pillow as the "inspiration"

Shar, Thanks for sharing your Daylilies, they are so pretty and Vivd!
Still waiting on my roses to bloom, I guess they need some sun to open up.

My canna's are still very small, I know I started them too late so thats what happens when i procrastinate.
Lets, see the Peonies are blooming, so pretty! When the neighbors moved they planted arborvitae's so blocked alot of sun, they bloomed but not in the abundance they are today, so I am excited to see this...(they moved again and took some Arbor Vitaes) woohoo, giving my plants more sun!

Mary, I know what your going thru looking for a job, yikes...forwent everything except doc appts. spent my entire day searching for a job, filled out apps and sent my resume to quite a few...Geesh, I am getting some responces mostly for insurance agents, yuck, I do not want to sell insurance...I am still not in a big hurry, so will continue to look, so good luck in your search, I hope you find something you will enjoy.

Aww, not sure if I told you, Feathers is sick!! Poor lil bird, I am going to call the vet today and see if they can look at her. She is almost 11 now, and in all these years has never been so sick, I think she has a bad cold...Been literally sneezing and coughing and her breathing is very rapid, and her talk is nothing more than a squeek, like she has a sore throat! I have her in Breenie's room where it is nice and warm and quiet, So I hope that helps her...

I have got to work in the yard today, been putting it off due to cold weather but the behind is sufferring from too much sitting!

So off to get in some work...see you in a bit.

Bev, I hope they are able to help Morgan. She remains in my prayers, along with all others.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, poor Feathers...probably with all this cold/damp weather it's no doubt she's caught a cold..did I tell you that Suzanne (SIL) is trying to get all the paper work done for customs to send her bird to a DG member in USA...he's about 30 but think they live to 100...she and Lenny are always working or away from home and their children now have homes of their own so must find a home...they are getting antsy, so many restrictions, to do's, different gmt. agencies etc. red tape is something else...

I've had peonies at the farm..they were there for over 80 years, kept digging plants from the mother plant, gave the children of the previous owner plants, just couldn't kill the mother plant...I've purchased many and they just don't bloom...last year I got excited, bought one with a pretty flower already open, planted it, only to realize the flower was silk, they had put it in to show coloring..imagine..this morning when I walked the gardens to see if if any were damaged by frost I could see the plants themselves look healthy..in full sunshine, let's hope i get a bud or two.. what zone are you in Judy, your plant growth and flowering seems much more advanced than mine...

Judy maybe you'll get the rest of the summer staying at home then you can get pro-active into finding a position again..sales isn't my forte for sure..I'd give everything away!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone.
Betty, hope that knee stops hurting soon! Bad knees puts a damper on everything you have to do! Betty, that floor rug is beautiful! Love how the design, and colors came out matching the pillow!

Judy, sorry to hear about your bird not feeling well. What kind of bird is it. Must be a parrot if it is 11 years old. Mine is 26 years old, and don't know what I would do if something happened. It would be a sad day for sure!

Glad to hear that Morgan is doing a little better. Still praying for her full recovery!

Back to sewing for a bit! Be back later.
LK

Glenview, IL

Thank you for Birdie...
Linda Kay, Feathers is a Cockeltiel...Here she is taking a lil snooze.
Do you have a Parrott, how cool! What his/her name? Wow, 26...I sure know how sad it will be when time comes, our birds are so precious to us, as is any pet...so sad when they are sick.
My kids are almost frantic over her, so I'm freaking out a little bit too, but keeping a close eye on her, took her out this AM for some snuggling...She loves that.

Betty, So glad to hear a home was found for the Cocketoo, Red tape, yikes...I am sure thogh it will be well loved.
My friend, adopted two Macaws, Wow, what patients, one she had to send back though as it was really mean, but thats what happens when it was horribly abused...The other she still has it has some issues too, but is finally used to the family, but that is it, she does not like other people.

So cute Judy, remember talking to her when I was there last summer...omg, almost a year already since we toured Chicago..one day I'll be back...

Linda Kay hoping to go to post office today and get your fat quarters in the mail..omg what will I do with no more swaps to catch up on???
What are you sewing???

Victoria Harbour, ON

OK, got another 2 scrubber crochet dishcloths done, only 11am...suggestions please how to fill in the rest of the day...might have to make another trip to Walmart at lunch..but then what do I do with all of these, already have far too many as I was doing them everyday while travelling to Toronto....

Yes Betty, I usually hurt the worst a day or two later. We have a good forty or fifty miles, or more, of Rail Bed Bike Paths…..that is My favorite place to ride but it gets a bit difficult with a group of ten to twenty riders which is our average riding group.

Bev continued prayers for Morgan.

“The dangling conversation”….Simon and Garfunkel…..although I guess they did exchange a few words in that song…..but I have seen people like you described….sad isn’t it?

I can certainly understand the job search issues….Laura so desperately needs a job and there is just nothing to be had around here…..I don’t know what they are going to do and hurts so much to not be able to help.

Love your scrubbers Betty....I used to do sunflower ones like that....don't know what ever happened to that pattern.....

Hope everyone has a good day....will try to check in later....

Judy, hope Feathers feels better soon…..my Pete is 16…..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trisha, think Suzanne's is a cockatoo (do they live over 100)?

Just seemed odd to me Trisha that they'd go to a coffee shop, enjoy coffee/toast and not even talk to each other...perhaps it's not so odd, just me thinking it is so...maybe it's feeling sorry for myself thinking how chatty I was when we'd go out..talk the ear off poor DH, but then he could talk up a storm as well...

Nothing worse I imagine than wanting to work and there is NO work..lordy, is the state helping anyone out during this crisis? surely people aren't just put out of their homes or go without groceries etc.? just so sad...maybe families will have to do what was done in older days, all live together under one roof for the benefit of the other...

Trisha, remember you had the little fairy door, did you create a fairy garden?

Pete is 16, how old do they normally live to? quite a commitment isn't it having these kind of birds...Suzanne says even her budgie birds that don't normally live long lives have doubled their years...she must look after them well...

It's my time for lunch, not sure what I'll do..already taken 2 pain killers, dragging my left around..might be better to move than to sit quietly...

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Not positive on Cockatoo lifespan.....I know it is reasonably long....Cockatiels like Judy and I have generally live in the range of twenty years or so.....the larger parrots can go to 100 to 130....

I do find that when I am stiff and sore from a ride it does help to get up and move......the initial "getting up" can be difficult at times......

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Trisha I'd rather wear readers than try gardening wearing glasses anymore. I was perfectly fine with glasses until I started gardening. I've noticed I sometimes look at plants upside down for some reason, when I do that with glasses they tend to 'fall' a little. My contacts need to be cleaned, I'm having a hard time with them today. I'll catch up in a while.

Glenview, IL

Hi..
We are very sad to Say Feather's passed away just a little while ago.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Judy so sorry about Feathers.....it is so hard to lose a pet.........

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Judy, I have a double yellow headed amazon parrot. Paco is getting up in his years, but I have read that they can live to be 100 or more if they stay healthy. So my kids will most likely inherit a bird, when it is time for me to go! He says a few words, like hello, and he cries, just like a new born child! He barks like a dog.

Betty, love the new dishcloth. Pretty blue!
I am working on the quilt squares for the swap. Trying to get several months done, to mail together.
Have you picked out your pattern and colors yet?

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Judy, big hug for you and the family...how could he pass so quickly, wasn't he just sneezing and such???? you poor soul...bet you are crying your heart out...just don't know what to say, know how precious Feathers was to you all..the children will be heartbroken..drats and more drats...sending prayers...

Linda Kay best I go do that...think I'm going to stick with red/white/blue because I see that many in the swap have same colors, plus you sent me my fat quarters in same color so with doing a double of each block should not need to many more squares to make a quilt...even if it's a lap quilt...did spend awhile yesterday on the computer and also with the quilt books I have trying to find a pattern that's simple and would work well into a 'hodge podge' of blocks..will go pick on and enter it..knowing how organized you are bet you are already to the end of the year right?

Suzanne would have loved her daughter or son to take Ralph but it's their mate that really don't want the responsibility for their entire life...

Crissy, looking at gardenplants upside down, and the purpose is for????? just too cute!

Baton Rouge, LA

Judy - I am so sorry to hear of your loss.....Been through it with Indy last March.....Can you plant something in honor of feathers? I had thought to do that for my doggies...whenever I get Mom's memory garden going...

Betty - When Opey was sick ....his joints were stiff as well...and the vet prescribed something called cosequin...I know that people take this as well for the same reason....have you heard of it? We had Indy on it too....

I love your people watching story. Of course I have to 'fill in the blanks'....so my "Forward" to the story is that they had a huge sadness that just affected them both....and no words could comfort or describe their loss....so they sit in quiet....no need for words...gently trying to comfort each other in silence ....knowing that words said out loud would be almost a desecration of the sadness they needed to work through... (Oh boy.....do I wax poetic today) LOL!

Please update us on the cat scan. OMG - I thought you had that weeks ago!

Trisha - can Laura perhaps find something online? One of the things that's depressing about the job search is all the scams they seem to have out there...but perhaps there is a GOOD stay-at-home and do-from-computer type job.

Judy - I know you are overwhelmed right now...but when you are up to it....I would love to know more about your job search...I am in sales as well...but feel the same about insurance sales...I got an offer this morning...but not enough money...still it's nice to know I have a "back up plan"....they want a "yes" or "No" from me in 2 weeks...

The Shack: Have any of you read this book? It was recommended to me 6 months ago by 2 co-workers who said it would "change your life". Went to library and tried to order it....since it was checked out....the librarian said...."What is up with this book? It has the longest waiting list I have ever seen!" so I repeated what my co-workers said. FInally got notice today that the library had the book. After picking it up....I walked out and right into an old friend. She asked what I was reading and said OMG - I read that book 2 times already and was completely GLOWING when I finished reading it both times....
I've started reading it...so I'll let you know what all the fuss is about.....

Hugs,
Mary

PS - DD friend just walked in....walked by the book and said - Oh Mrs. Mary - That is the BEST book ever !!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well now you have us all going in searchof it...community library in my home town are very good at ordering in books, will ask them to put me on the list..think we could all do with a bit of 'life changing'...

YOU should be a writer, yes you should, look at how you've described my 2 people..I was feeling sorry for myself and had my story and you, in a more positive thought process wrote one of the nicest scenerio's..I'm going with yours!!!

As for the cat scan, have to go in search of the papers the doctor gave me...know I put them away in a safe location but where could that be???

went a few streets down, had seen a nursery there a few days ago when Suxanne and I were driving by..omg they want an arm and a leg for their plants/shrubs..for a shrub that I would pay $16.98 somewhere else they want about $49.99 and less healthy..do, came home without buying anything...one thing I did see though, I've been trying to remember where the mega 3 story bldg. full of antiques was in Barrie...today i found it across the street from the nursery...good to know, I'll be spending some lunch hours going through it...

Was anxious to tell my nieces about it but they are in their late 20's so not interested in antiques...lol...

Mary haven't heard of cosequin, will have to ask the vet...

Ordered fries and hamburger at the little fry trailer, don't know why, knew I wasn't hungry..probably bring it home for Sailor...

Baton Rouge, LA

HA! Betty- you give me more credit than I deserve.... Since you were there...you picked up on vibes that I didn't....but it is interesting to hear what other's would say the scenario was about.....would think we would have quite a lot of 'takes' on it....

I love Sharran's idea about the round robin book....

Wonder what would be her 'take' on it.... :o)

Here is what I copied from petmeds.com

Cosequin for Dogs

Cosequin for Dogs is the number one veterinarian-recommended supplement to maintain healthy joints. Cosequin's active ingredients include glucosamine and chondroitin, and it can have a positive impact on joint health while avoiding the side effects that can sometimes accompany prescription drugs.

But I'm sure Sailor will appreciate the hamburger & fries even more!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Like a lot of you with pets up in age I also know what is to come..just keep putting it off in hopes of better days...

While in Elmvale this a.m. I saw that they are having their town garage sale and plant sale June 27th...no long weekend for us this year..our July 1st is Wednesday and that is when we are suppose to take the holiday, mid week..yuk..

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

So sorry Judy, about Feathers. You are in my thoughts.

The silent couple? I would have probably thought the same thing as Mary....a sad life experience that needed no words.

The Shack, a truly amazing book, I read it some time ago and purchased copies for my children and one of my friends for Christmas gifts. It is just written in such a way you can take it or leave it. Some who live by a fundamental faith don't accept it at all. But it is a strongly controversial story and fairly well written. I loved it, but then I loved Pilgrim's Progress, too. In fact it sort of reminds me of Pilgrim's Progress, on a modern level.

As long as people read it as a novel, it seems to be OK, but if they start trying to analyze it, they'll drive themselves crazy. Those who understand the real message of love for fellow man seem to get the most enjoyment. If they try to relate it to Scripture, it doesn't always fly. Just keep an open mind when you read it.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Big hugs Judy. So sorry about your little guy. We are still pineing for Snug. BEV

Baton Rouge, LA

Thanks Sharran! I do like it so far....I'll remember to keep an open mind...

I do try to analyze too much sometimes....Like I'm at the part with the Indian Princess and wondering if that is foreshadowing the outcome.....

Going to read more.....

Good title for our Storyline! "The Silent Couple".....

Hugs,
Mary

PS: I guess next I need to read Pilgrims Progress....I have heard of that novel.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Library was closed when I got home..

Thanks Shar, I'll be sure to ask them to get a copy of each so I can read...imagine, my not thinking about the Silent Couple as needing no words..and yet normally I would have..frame of mind I guess...

Need to change, girls will be here shortly..

had some good and bad today...I'll be back with some of it..

But some of the good...

This was on my counter when I got home...
