Shes about too... #45

(Cathy), MO

Just popping in. I'm so jealous! Sounds like several of you have blooms or plants already "Y'ing". I only have 4 brugs this year and none are anywhere near the Y stage. Oh well, there's always next year. Loving the pictures and Joyce have fun sorting plants! ;-)

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Cathy, do not think you are alone. I have 11 brugs and NONE are doing anything except loosing their leaves and looking like they wish they were someplace else. I think they know I am not happy with them. (whispering) I do not want them to hear me. JB

(Cathy), MO

:-) I moved a few months back so am basically starting all over again. Most of the brugs I had last year, didn't make it thru the winter or the move. I just ordered 2 more but it's so late in the season, I doubt if they will do much. I will just have to get cuttings this fall and start again.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Cathy, dmail me later on this fall, and I will have plenty of cuttings for you!
I got my first cutting last year in June, and it grew, and bloomed, so there still is time. We just need this heat to slow down a bit!
Give them time, and lots of fertilizer. They will grow for you!

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Fertilizer.................that is a great idea. I have been so busy I never thought of it and I purchased the tomato fertilizer just for them. That is what I was told be the woman who gave me my first one and it did respond to it. Thanks for reminding me. JB

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I feed mine at least once a week. I use miracle grow bloom booster, and I also double the formula. If it calls for 1 Tbls, per gallon of water, I add two Tbls. when they are growing so fast!

LK

(Cathy), MO

Will do, thanks LK. I've started using MG on mine too, but they are tiny. Oh well, they will bloom when they bloom! :-)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Cat, I have almost all the cuttings from you as well as the plummies.. can send you a plant already Y'd if you would like.. Debra

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I use MG also. I usually dilute it tho, everyweek when I water the big ones. The ones in big pots because I don't have drain holes in them. I know you should but that makes an awful mess in my solar room. So far I haven't killed any of them doing it so I must not be overwatering. The ones in little pots I don't dilute because half of it drains out the bottom.

The voodoo plant the trunk is really smooth not even wrinkled or anything. Someone told me how to transplant it so I have that on my list....you know that list............keeps getting longer and longer and longer.

Ahh Pegi, I am sure you are a great Mommie, if they are like most of the people in my family, they think I have every plant and don't want or could use any more....LOL Silly family......

Linda Kay, the people in Oklahoma I work with are talking about how unbelievable hot it is there and no rain. Funny how just a few hundred miles can make such a big difference, good or bad. I would rather have my rain than the really hot hot temps. My hostas under the tree are really happy this year for a change.

(Cathy), MO

Thanks Debra. I think I will wait until fall to get more plants though. I'm in a dulpex now and don't ahve as much room as I did have. Hopefully next spring I will be back in a house though!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Okay everyone, it is really hot here..LOL I knew I should have kept the tropical garden inside.. *sigh*

Our heat has come and doesn't make for a happy camper here. I was so glad when our mornings were cool, but that has ended. My brugs aren't taking the heat so well either. Everyonne here are getting tomatoes and mine are still green. I think I got mine in the ground a little later. I went over and look at some of the beautiful morning glories that DG's are growing. I never realized how many different colors there were.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Until DG I thought all morning glories were weeds....LOL

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

They can be invasive as weeds here, lovely weeds though. We have some weeds that come up all over the yard each year, pretty yellow flowers, but can't have them all over. I spend each spring pulling them up.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Morning rain.....96 this afternoon, I think I moved to the south, but I am missing the beach........humid!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

It's going to be another hot one today. Can't believe DH got up early to finish attaching the screening over my garden. He said may then I'll quite whinning. No, then I'll want something else done.

I have to get over to city hall before it gets too hot too to get my dogs licensed for the year. It is a very short walk and I do need some exercise. Don't want to have to pay a fine for being late. One of the errands we were going to do yesterday while we were out and both of us forgot about it until we got home. I keep telling myself to make lists, but then sometimes that doesn't even help.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Pegi, I make the list and then lose the list....LOL or leave it somewhere I am not....

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I can have a list in my purse and still come home without something.

DH had to give up as it really was hot out at 9:30 this morning. I really would like to go out and play in the dirt, but too much sun can really make you feel awful. I'll just have to wait until this evening when it cools off a little. I could look up some of my small garden art items and have them ready to set up. Haven't looked at my brug today, but I know it is suffering from the heat too. I have 3 that should be put into larger pots too, or maybe in the ground.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Pegi, this is our first hot temp, but the humidity has been horrible so you don't need too hot before you can't breath.
I am feeling for you guys who haven't had rain tho.....bad deal.
Suppose to be 96 with humidity to feel like 104 today, I haven't been out so I don't know.
Worried about Friday, I am walking in RelayForLife. It is an ALL night walk to raise money for cancer research....won't be bad when the sun goes down, but it starts at 6pm on Friday and ends at 6am on Saturday, that is after getting up at 4:30am on Friday, work all day and then walk......what have I done....LOL. DH says I am crazy. Been raising money at work selling food....LOL that always works, then made a gardening basket to be auctioned off, so I hope that goes well. Worried about the heat and worried if we have thunderstorms, I don't do lightening!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

You be careful on that walk. Being tired and walking all night will get to you! Make sure you drink plenty of water too!

Good for you for raising money for such a great cause!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Got home and planted some stuff, I may be done by winter....LOL. My new dog ate two books I had in my swing.....not use to puppies especially not a 80 lb. puppy. I was really upset with him. One was my favorite garden book. Never would of thought he would do that....

We will be very careful, we are bringing all kinds of stuff. We are walking around a track at a high school. Honest I have never done this so i don't know what to expect. There are all kinds of activities all night long. We are bringing cots and can sleep if we need or want to. I am just so afraid of the humidity. It rained again at my house about 4 oclock....this is the strangest weather I have ever seen for Missouri. It is truely like I remember North Carolina. My iris are not happy at all, way too wet. I am afraid I will lose some of them if it doesn't dry out some.

I have a young girl who works for me and she is the one who got everyone together to do this walk. Her Mom has breast cancer, and so did my Mom so she asked me to join her. She has never done this either but there are alot of people on our team. We will have alot of fun.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

no rain here but all around us...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No rain here either!
So sorry to hear about the garden book! Geesh, he must have been hungry? LOL

I have to have a scope done on my left knee, I tore the miniscus! In and out in one day!
Nothing like my total knee replacemnt 3 years ago!

LK

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh dear... speedy recovery wishes to you, my friend..
Finally... some rain..

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Linda Kay, you get better and don't rush things. Now is the time to sit and watch the landscape you created.

Cloudy today suppose to have rain this evening.
Just need good weather tomorrow night until Saturday morning. It is suppose to be beautiful, actually a little on the cool side. Which will work no humidity.

Ok on the Mother load of plants I got for free. I went back to pick up the huge ficus tree, and there was a huge boston fern, and a palm tree......OMG Need to figure out what I do want to keep and find homes for the rest.....

Oh Oh, stopped by Home Depot and the daylilies that had stopped blooming were marked down to 3.something probably ended up about 4.00. Lots of colors, big plants.....I bought 3, that is all I could afford.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Our HD is too far away from us here.. I have lillies still in boxes waiting until fall to plant..
maybe I should take some to the RU this fall
My youngest daughter created this painting

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Your daughter is very talented.

Going back to HD on payday.

Lillies would be great for the ru. I will probably have daylilies, brugs, coneflowers, autumn joy sedum, ee's. I need to select what I am going to over winter and what I am not. Think I will take some house plants also.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I hear ya.. I am not bringing in the whole yard like I did last year... LOL

Thumbnail by joeswife
Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Brugs and ee's do not play well together! The bugs last year made me crazy. EE's are horrible and of course we all know how brugs are. What ee's I keep will be in the solar room I think or go dormant.
Are both of those pictures those bulbs you have to dig up, can't think of the name. Those blooms are beautiful.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Cannas and glads.. I dig them up no big deal I plant them shallow

Thumbnail by joeswife
Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Beautiful blooms. Glads is what I was thinking of. Cannas I put in pots so I don't have to mess with digging, just let them go dormant. Only thing I think I dig now are the diahlias. Love cutting those and bringing them to work.

Never had glads.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Easy to grow, get them at Dollar General on closeout and save until next spring.. I just use mine over and over.. I did get some cultivars from here at the market place, but you can get them on closeout now everywhere.. I have cannas in pots also, easier.. dahlias in the barrells and the border dahlias just come back every year from the ground..

Thumbnail by joeswife
Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Border dahlias have never come back for me and I have left them outside before.
Love my big dahlias and love the borders in an old wheel barrel that I have, by a miniature windmill.
What is in the pot with the canna? That is a really pretty leaf.
My bird of paradise (giant white) I really like this year, short of the shredded leaves from the wind.

Thumbnail by happgarden
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

the only thing in with the red canna ( from a DGr) is some celosia that I planted from seed from last year... most everything I have in this bed is from seed..the big round leaves on the back left peeking out is a holly hock double peach from seed. I have buds on brugs all over the place out back YAY!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Well, I am home. My surgery was supposed to be at 8:00am yesterday morning, but the Dr. was late getting to the hopstial, so we had to sit there and wait for the first person in line to have her shoulder surgery, then fianally at 1:15, they took me back for mine! Once she opened my knee, to fix the miniscus tear, she found a bunch of other things wrong. So I will be on crutches for a few weeks, instead of a few days! Geesh. I can never get a break! LOL All the pain meds made me really sick for most of last night, but so far this morning I am doing OK
I need to keep my knee elevated, so I will try to check in another day!
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!
LK

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

It is going to be so pretty to see the brugs all in bloom.
Do you know what yours are going to look like?
I have a couple that this will be their first set of new blooms, can't wait.

RU is sounding very nice. Even if I have to work it is about 7 miles from work so I can still get there....yeah!

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Linda Kay, so sorry to hear about your knee, but glad it is fixed....that is what is important. Just be careful I don't know if I could handle crutches....LOL
