Hail out west of us.. none here yet.. have had a whole yard of flowers and veges flattened by hail before..
I will trade a cutting of butterfly for the monster white I have that I think was yours once.. how does that sound? like in fall almost winter we can trade right?
I am really wanting to go on a road trip.. just feel the need.. I will look at my work schedule..
Shes about too... #45
Trade sounds great......lest I keep the butterfly alive......
Road trip, the Topeka water garden tour is coming up, June 27 and 28th, 9 to 5, 10 gardens self-guided, $6.00 tickets. The water garden tour in Kansas City is wonderful, never been to the one in Topeka. Almost everyone who has a water garden has great flower beds also. Any way an idea.
oh that sounds wonderful.. I could come up Sunday the 28th, early... go by and grab Bonnie.. let me know.. I will call her
Debra, does Bonnie live in Topeka still or in the subs around it?
I don't know my way around Topeka at all.....LOL
I was soooo sick Saturday with a cold I didn't move the whole day. I think I slept 20 hours.....usually I sleep about 6 hours. Saturday would of been wonderful to work outdoors, overcast and cool so I hear. I never sit foot outside. DH told everyone he was thinking of taking me to the hospital because he figured on my death bed I would be out in the garden. I got two brugs from the coop delivered on Saturday DH decided not to wake and tell me since I was sick. I don't know if that was sweet or is he crazy NEW plants and he didn't wake me...LOL I got a couple of doubles and to be honest right now I can't remember the names....told ya I was sick.
Anyone got pics of their yards? Mine is kind of inbetween times. I have just a couple of daylilies and a couple of lilies blooming. Didn't plant many annuals so I am waiting and waiting for more color. I did buy som white balloon plants that are blooming for my night garden.
Later
Oh my, hope you get well quickly.. I woke up downin my back for the first time ever.. had to take naproxin just to get up and about... I refuse to blame it on age.... I have to remind myself all the time I am three years away from 60.. a pic of the yard this am..here is chrissy.. she is on the south fence facing north, east end.. next to the vine trellis...
Wow, she is beautiful, so full and nice leaves.
I will turn 59 this year....hard to imagine. Time does fly by. So far knock on wood I have not had back problems. knock knock DH has. Not fun....take it slow cause you don't want to make it worse.
Got a new dog today. Someone dumped it at a friends house. Hope it works, we need an outside dog. He is completely back, sure he has lab but nose is longer. He is sooo skinny. So up to the vet he will go. I am sure he will have worms, fingers crossed he doesn't have heart worms.......He is so gently with our other dogs and my cat. Course the cat doesn't like him.
Good luck with your back, but take it slow, so it doesn't get you down longer.
Having back problems isn't any fun when you want to get out in the yard and play in the dirt. Good days and bad days, but a few stretching exercises does help.
Hope the new dog is OK. I hate it when people just dump their animals off and keep on going.
my sis in law got a dumped off dog three years ago, a blond lab type skinny scaredy little thing... today she weighs almost a hundre pounds, and is so spoiled she sleeps in bed with her mom and dad.. sheesh!
Morning everyone. Hope you all had a great week-end?
Happgardener, so sorry to hear you were sick this week-end. Hope your feeling better now? Get those brugs in some water soon! Good luck with the new dog.
Debra, that brug is looking nice and healthy! What color is she?
I have some with the edge of the leaves like that, and some of the others leaves are smooth?
JB, how you doing today?
I just turned 54 Saturday. Some days I feel like 104!!!
You all have a great day!
taters, hope you had a happy birthday Saturday! Do anything fun? Feeling like a 104 for me is usually after a great day in the garden....LOL I am sooo much better today, of course in time to come back to work...LOL Look like I am working hard right? Honest I come in at 6am and leave about 6pm so I do steal moments and check on you all....LOL I got the brugs in water Sunday as soon as he told me I had them, along with some hostas that I traded for. Someone stop me I must be crazy! I just got all the hostas planted and 4 more arrive! Wish I would of got them in the ground cause it is pouring here today!
Don't think I slept very well last night worrying that the new dog would stay on the property. I kept getting up and giving him small piece of roast beef....LOL Then it started to rain course his bed is under a deep porch that covers 2 sides of our house, so I got up and checked on him then and gave him another small bite of roast beef...LOL Hopefully I have fooled him into thinking he will always eat like that....or he will expect me to do that every night. Ummmm...I better stop that now..didn't think of that. He is about 5 months old and skinny as a rail. To the vet later this week, I will need to take off work.
Anyone have any brugs blooming? I don't have any brugs blooming yet. Versi is setting buds again. She bloomed this spring but is happy to be outside. Then another called pink something that AuntB gave me and for the life of me I can not remember that name. I should write it down.
Happy belated birthday Linda. I am fine, thank you for asking. I just came back from my chiropractors appt. He puts me back inline every two weeks. HA! He uses a cold lazer on my head and it has really helped my vertigo. My medical doctor wanted to put me on a prescription for the chemical unbalance or is it inbalance, who cares, anyhow the meds made me worse. The Specialist said learn to live with it. The Chiropractor is fixing it. I hate doctors.
It is not raining yet today. I am still waiting for them to put up my new retractable awning. It keept raining and now the date is tomorrow at ten. Yahoo.
Just shipped more jasmine to the west coast. I am getting brave now. The last ones arrived in good shape so I am filling orders from CA this week. It will soon be too hot to ship anything.
Must get some transplanting done. Between the lack of sun and the pots being too small, some leaves are turning yellow. Later. Hugs.
Oh boy, I don't know what I would do, if I did not see my chiropractor. I too see him, about every 2 - 3 weeks, and he makes such a difference!
Glad to hear you are shipping some plants! If your not hot enough, I can send you some of this heat! 103 yesterday, and the humidity is about 50 - 70%!!! YUCK! Just makes everything melt.
No brugs blooming yet! Well, I have one, and it is developing really slow, and it look wilted! I think it is the heat here! I hope they don't all do that! I will be so bummed out!
Later

Happy Birthday LindaKay! sorry I missed it.. raining crazy here tonight.. no blooms or buds oon all my brugs yet, but they sure loook happy.. Joyce I bet that pink something is a pink beauty.. and the one with the jagged leaf I posted is a Chrissy..
My mountain magic is blooming again. Has 3 open right now and a 4th starting to open. It is so hot they are not opening well.
What color is Chrissy please?
Tammy, can you send me a cutting of mountain magic, when it is time to cut them back, please?
Debra, you are right it is pink beauty, now why is that sooo hard to remember.
We have had horrible storms this year. Any more rain and I will believe I am living in the rain forest! Humidity is horrible and suppose to be 90's tomorrow. Water sitting everywhere so those awful little sucking things will be flying every where!!!
Good thing I have 3 water lilies getting ready to bloom and the lotus is growing big and tall, so excited. I need time off of work to get the pond done!
I have no idea what colour chrissy is, might have to look her up in DG plant files... will save cuttings for anyone that wants one.. I would love a MM cutting this fall..we had 99 today and rain tonight..
Debra your little eyes were open late or was it early today? LOL
The humidity is soooo high! Still going to try and take off later part of this week. Will just have to get up at sunrise and get started before the temps get too bad.
Dang.. I remembered last night I was walking around with a plumeria and I can't remember where I sit it! This is not a plant I have fallen in love with yet. They have been very difficult for me. Ordered some on a coop only killed one but have only had two bloom and both were white. One was suppose to be pink I believe. So slow growing not like a brug.
Plumerias are so slow growing, beginning to wonder if mine will ever grow up. Lost buds on my brug, but now I'm not so sad as I know new ones will appear soon. When DH was driving down one of the busy streets I did notice a yellow brug taller than the house full of blooms. Wonder why I never saw that before, I'm more aware of them like I was with plumeria's. Never "saw" so many plumeria in my neighborhood before. Just didn't know what to look for I guess.
My mountain magic has never grown enough to cut back! It is still a small plant! LOL If it does not grow any larger than it is now, I still will not be cutting it. I move it inside into my atrium in the winter. If I do cut it. I will definitely put you down as the first recipient!
Wonder why it has not grown?
my plummies are leafing out, the one out back is really going to town, the one out front got sunburned, but now it has new growth.. I hate it when I "lose" a plant, I have gone out at night with a flashlight even looking for one that I suddenly remembered I had.. Geesh!
Debra, you have this plant obsession really bad. Saw a beautiful plumeria in a front yard today full of flowers. Next time we are going that way I am going to have DH stop so I can take a picture of it. Love to sit under one so lovely. You sent 2 pink castor bean seeds and they have sprouted, now to see if I can take care of it. I've had some seeds I germinated up and die on me. Too anxious to get them outdoors I think. I check seeds out every day expecting to see miracles right away.
Hi everyone. Another day of weeding and planting. Mostly just weeding because of all the rain. Sometimes when I get ready to plant I walk around like a crazy person in a daze. Could put here, no here, no here, and can't seem to make a decision. Am I the only one that does that? I see these things about planning a garden, you have got to be kidding, I am trading and all of sudden at the garden place is this cool plant....how do you plan for that? Guess I am lucky the garden looks as good as it does......spent 30 min's trying to pick out a spot to plant a hosta i swapped for.......LOL so sad.....later!
Debra we still on for next weekend?
Cute picture of that furry guy. Looks like he posed for you.
Happ I do the same thing with plants, I guess that is why I have so many in pots, can't decide where it should be planted. Wish I had some of your rain. We are being put on a "conserve water NOW" system. How am I suppose to take care of plants when we have to watch how much water we use. Well, I guess I will have to try.
OMG, Pegi, you should see under the trees the number of pots with plants in them....LOL I don't feel quite so bad now. Such a relief to know I am not the only one! LOL
Here is a pic of my 2 year old water garden that still isn't complete. Will be done by the 4th of July Weekend. I finally got the waterfall the way I want it. The picture was taken before I started stacking the sides. Tomorrow a.m. going after river rock to fill in the gap. Think I am as happy as I am going to be until I can have a bit pond.
Beautiful water garden, Happ.
Not bad, since I did the whole thing by myself. Dug the hole, stacked the blocks, made the filter, the whole nine yards. We have an earth bermed house and that dirt was aways washing away from the west side of the house, so I wanted a water garden, couldn't afford a big one, but wanted to try and that is what I cam up with. Now finish the stones on the waterfall, conceal the white tube (I have done that about 50 times) and finish the edges. I love sitting there watching the fish and listening to the falls.
Pegi, this is the rainest we have been in forever. The humidty is horrible. You can barely breath. I wish I could share the rain with you. It has been horrible windy all day and now it is stopped. The calm before the storm. Hail has also been horrible around here. Fingers crossed I have missed that. What are your temps there? Oh zone 10 you are alot warmer than me! Well probably not now because we have been in the 90's. Water is becoming an issue for alot of folks.
Pegi, We too get on water watches when it doesn't rain for a month or two, but the past two years have been very very wet.. Happ. I too am a scatter flower child.. get a new plant not planning on getting, and wander around hmm where should it go? I have tons of pots and planters and tubs and I wish I had a nice water garden, but I just have my little whisky barrel water fountain tub thing my son got me a couple years ago, it is also my rooting tub.. now the kids next door they gave me one of those POND liner things, I though about building it up with rocks, putting the fish in get a few lillies, arrange my potted plants around it.. getting hubby to like that idea is a different story.. next weekend is still a go with me..
LOL my hubby doesn't care what I do in the garden as long as I don't include him.....LOL He likes to look at it when it is done, but otherwise he is not interested at all, which is ok, I am not interested in all of his hobbies either. I'll have to post a pic of the glider I built one summer.......he was really hesitant on that when I came dragging home all this lumber on the 4th of July. His comment "When do you expect to have this done.....answer "By the time the snow flies....LOL, reality I sit in the glider in our first snow storm that year.....LOL I shouldn't say he never helps, but is never a very happy helper. The one time I came dragging home a sod stripper which worked really well. Problem I forgot you had to move all that sod you stripped somewhere and you had to do it quickly because I only had the machine 4 hours and I had to make sure the sod was cut out compeletly. Could not have done that without him. It looked so simple on TV...LOL
I have 1/2 a real wine barrel that DH bought me for my birthday one year. Love it also. Like you Debra, it is hard to tell the water plants from the plants I have in limbo going into the garden...LOL That is how I learned you can grow daylilies in the water garden. Only other problem with it is the dogs love to drink out of it....maybe it's the wine...LOL
Our weather has been on the cool side, especially the mornings. We've had a few really warm days, but forecast is for a lot of hot weather. I'm so lazy about getting out in the mornings before it gets too warm. By the time I feel like digging in the dirt it usually is way too warm. Went out to water this evening and those darn dead pine needles all over the place. My hanging tomato plant doesn't look too well, so I had to climb up on a couple steps of the ladder to water it. That climbing on a ladder is something I avoid.
We have been way above normal and lots of rain to go with it. Humidity takes your breath away. Before that we were below normal. I live out on in the country on a well, when we built the well it was built really wide and deep.....knock on wood never had a problem with water. Usually things don't get watered because I don't get home in time or I am too tired.
WOW, we must all be busy gardening or something! Holy Moly!
I have one lone brug bloom on Versi it looks so lonely! LOL
But, my lotus in the water garden has a bud I am soooo excited! I just don't know how long it takes to open......
It had a beautiful white bloom, but didn't have the sweet smell as versi and the others I had. When mine bloomed I had lots of blooms the very first time and big white blooms. So excited for you.
Did you get my dmail about Sunday.
I did, so far its' a go, but DH is a little fearful of the vehicle I am driving, I have two cars in the shop right now, and I am driving the car Pauline gave to me, a 96 buick park avenue, ( not my little honda for sure! ) I am going to try to get a loaner from work to use.. ( an 09 honda)
If it is not going to work out it is not a problem, I understand about cars completely and you don't want to be on the road in something you are not sure of. Have you talked to Bonnie? If we go, I know there is a greenhouse that Bonnie loves to go not far from Topeka I think, but I don't know the name. I also look on the internet and we can buy tickets at the Jackson's greenhouse, which looks like it is north of the city. I know nothing about Topeka at all.
Sounds like a great time is going to be had by all. Sounds like so much fun. Be sure to let us know all about it.
Just thought I would stop in and see if anyone was around. When I look at the pretty pink morning glories I think of Debra. Not all the seeds I sowed in my sink came up, but I love what did germinatte. Have to toss some more seeds in and see what happens. My "Garden Patio" is almost finished. DH is going to put the screen up, hopefully today, and then I am going to paint the boards around my garden a light green called "Garden Spot". Have to go out and work only during the cool times which isn't very often.
