LindaKay, please keep your kneee elevated.. do what u are sposed to do.. all of you have a great day!
Shes about too... #45
Yeah, I survived my walk! Amazing.
We had soooo much fun and raised about 1200.00. We were told for a first time team that was really pretty good. We have good ideas for next year. I am amazed I wasn't bad at all yesterday, just a little stiff when I first got up. We participated in the walk all night, and we even danced, did the limbo, and just had a great time with friends in a very relaxed setting. I made a gardening basket to auctioned off. I was in hopes it would go for more, but it sold for 50.00. It was the last item to be auctioned and alot of the crowd had left and it was getting dark, but hey that wasn't bad.....
How are you doing Linda Kay?
Oh, Debra you have little okra! LOL What brug is that?

Morning everyone. I am feeling better. Still swollen, but getting better with every day.
Beautiful pictures of the brugs. I love the bird, poking his head out also! ^_^
Hope everyone is well. Have a great day!
LK
How exciting! Can't wait until you post pics of the blooms. I need to figure out my fav's and narrow down the field I am afraid. Course if you can cut off the Y and just winter over the pieces it will be easier.
Had lots going on this weekend, but still managed to play in the garden. I put all my daylilies (potted) in a line up by name, so I know how many of each I have. Need to select some for the ru, and decide the ones I am keeping and how many. Think this winter I will try starting some from seed, that should keep me busy and out of trouble.
Where is everyone? I thought I got lost again. Pretty bad when you get lost by just sitting and looking at a monitor.
I'm glad you are still here. Lovely brug, I'm not having such hot weather and my brug isn't blooming for me. I've decided she should be in the ground, but don't know just where she will be happy.
I'm gathering seeds from morning glories you sent me. It is a pretty pink with white inside and another vine that came up and only one flower but it is blue, such a pretty blue too. Hoping more flowers appear so I can save seeds from this one.
Beautiful blooms Debra! Glad you have them blooming!
Pretty pretty everyone......I was afraid this thread was dying on the vine, glad to see some life pumped back in it.
I have single bloom on a couple of brugs, can't seem to get a flush, so I upped the fertilizer. Bought two additional brugs and I am disappointed. They already had roots and everything, but started rotting! So they were tall enough I cut them in 2. Hopefully I will have 4 for the price of 2......2 cuttings already have leaves.....Doosier, waiting on naughty nick to give me some leaves.
Debra, did I hear from a birdie you like caladiums? I have several different kinds now and really enjoy the color. Those and coleus are a great staple in my garden. Maybe we have some different ones and can share if you are interested.
Joyce, sounds good to me..
My noid opened up finally, from my very first brug last year.. I swear it looks like a Versi, even tho I was told it wasn't..
the Versi that Bonnie gave me is really starting to get big.. no buds yet.. Monster white is budding out, and jean pasko is loaded and ready to flush for me even tho she is so small.
just came in from the back yard, time to go to bed, they changed my schedule at work and Ihate it, they took my tuesday off away from me.. off every other saturday but that doesn't make up for the whole day off on Tuesdays I have had for the past ten years.. and now I work until 6 and don't get away until almost 6:30.. I am due for a review and a raise, I am going to ask for it.
Been teaching youngest DD how to drive after I get home, she s doing real good.. hopefully will be ready for driving test by October... she will be 21 by then.
Oh Kim, that cherub is so pretty, can't wait for mine to grow up! Thanks for sharing!
Hope you all have a great week-end!
LK
Beautiful brug. I could sit and look at it all day.
Where is JB?
I didn't get a Cherub, wish I had one tho.. Jean Pasko is all budded out and about too..
Remind me come fall Debra ok...she is a big girl and will have to be trimmed : )
Ohhhh Kim, if you have extras I would love a cutting. Maybe I could send you a cutting of something I have. Will look this weekend and see what is big enough to cut.
There will be extra! No way I can get them in with out cuttin' : } I have more than I have room for waayyyy too many lol!
Naw Kim, gone to for no way....LOL
Need help everyone. Had mites in the garden room. Room is now empty. Would love to set off some kind of bomb to kill what ever is left in there before fall hits and I start bringing things back in. Do any of you do that or is that a bad idea? There isn't any food stuff or that kind of stuff, it is a hybrid green house basically.
I do not know what evwryone else is going to say but I bought four bug bombs for the basement to set off AFTER I bring in the plants from outside, as I am going to be gone for a whole week and am just bringing in what I can.. we will be gone so it won't hurt us.. it didn't hurt anything last year.. but it didn't kill what was in the soil as eggs either..
I am still alive Linda, Thanks for thinking of me. This has been one H of a month. Two deaths in my son in laws family, (his father was one) and the weather has been so crazy I am just too old to spend much time outside. The greenhouse was over 100 deg. a few days a week ago and today the same thing. I am so frustrated. Not only that, but people are buying plants on ebay and trying to ship them so they get them before they die is another challange. I guess I have been so cranky I decided it best to stay quiet rather than hurt someones feelings with a remark I did not mean.
If nothing else is going good, my old brug has two buds on it. Stubborn darn plant. I haven't even fed them. They are in the full sun and all this rain, they love it I guess. Good for them.
I have been very lucky with my gardenia cuttings. Most of them are growing and doing so well. I also have some great new plants coming along from cuttings, peace lillies, Christmas Cactus as always is great, spider and the little goldfish and cane begonias.
Not to forget the jasmine. All houseplants of course. I am hoping to have many more varieties as soon as they all stop blooming and I can take cuttings again. The jasmine are just going crazy outside this year and they keep blooming. I also have hibiscus cuttings that area taking hold.
I am waiting for my shipments of Iris to arrive for the fall planting. I have several hundreds coming and hopefully my SIL will help me plant them in this heat.
I put in my order for the supplies for the items I make for Christmas. I will start on them in October and if you do not order early, all the good stuff is gone from the wholesaler. Most of that early ordering is for silk flowers and berries, you know things to put on wreaths at Christmas. Vacation time is over....did not go anyplace but spent money here on the farm painting, new retractable awning , etc. I enjoy my home and never mind spending money keeping it in repair.
That is all for now. If you hop over on the other lists, and anyone cares enough to ask. Tell them I am o.k. I will be 81 in a few weeks, and I am still alive and well.
Have a few pics I want to share but I must get them off the camera. Later and Hugs to all.
Hope your summer has been wonderful. Stay well. JB
Wow JB what a summer. So sorry to hear about your families loses.....
Are you still growing in the greenhouse now? I have pulled everything out of the garden room, got awfully warm in there also. Now want to get it cleaned up for winter.
I hear tomatoe blight is going full bore on the east coast also, which is now jumping over to potatoes (same thing that cause the iris potatoe thing (can't think how to spell it). Glad to hear you are doing good tho. Happy early birthday!
We have been on the most part either cool and rainy or so humid I thought I had moved back to North Carolina!
I wanted to show you what I gave the closest relatives of the people who died in the family this month. They had so many cut flowers they were giving them away right and left. They were both very popular men and the funerals were both military. I decided to express my sympathy to their families with antherium on lava rock. They are beautiful and so easy to keep alive. Here is what they look like.
My kids were talking about that blight just the other day. Several of the growers who did not spray lost their entire crops. Our neighbor sprayed and he had a wonderful harvest of potatoes. I laughed because as a kid I worked in the fields picking up potatoes and I got 5 cents a bushel basket picked. I used to ride my bike with some other high school kids and we would work on the farms doing what the Hispanic do here now. They get minimum wage now. LOL...anyhow, they no longer pick them by the basket either, I was watching them dig them up and load them on a truck all with one big piece of equipment.
Wow, that was really neat.
Many of these workers are illegals too. Our neighbors have all legals who live on the farms, but some workers are brought in by city brokers and paid by the broker and the farmers pay the broker. That way they do not have to deal with the paperwork. Those are the ones who are questionable. We had that problem on the horsefarm. Most of ours were illegals until I got them all their green cards. The paperwork is a mess, but if you want cheap labor, you do it. Then of course they want paid in cash so they can go send it back to Mexico to their families. They work so hard but some of them drink too much beer. LOL
Jb, I am so happy to hear from you.. I am so sorry for your familys losses.. I am glad you are still growing things.
you inspire me. thank you. I have been feeling old andin a funk for a month now. hearing from you makes me get off my pity pot.
I appreciate what you have to say.
I love that plant up there. the antherium on lava rock. I have reservations abouut growing things that other people say "easy to grow".. as I always kill things that are "easy to grow"
I killed another plumeria stick sent to me to "sprout wings and take off" Righttttttt.. if it is a seed.. I am good to go.
I also used to work on a potatoe farm. it was a no pay job. I just was sent to a farm every summer for four years in a row while my mom "Played" and I learned alot on those farms. Like hard work gets you nice and tired.
anyway.. good to hear from you.
Debra
Debra, what is that bloom? It looks like a jasmine. It is beautiful. Speaking of beautiful, the brugs are outstanding. Mine, well, forget it.
Anyhow, happ ask me if I was growing in tne greenhouse just now. YES, more like cooking in the greenhouse. Fortunately the plants in there at this time love heat and humidity, but it is so difficult to keep the watering to the point where it is not too much or too little. The medium I use for cuttings holds the moisture better than potting soil, I sometimes even put them in trays of water to be sure none of them dry out during the heat of the day. Steam heat I guess you would call it. LOL.
I am having another one of those days. More 90 deg. heat and it is to continue for three or four more days. Humidity very high and I need to either cancel sales that were to be shipped this week, or ask them if they mind waiting an additional week for shipment of their purchase. Oh well, it could be snow, then I would be wild and wooly for sure. I love Spring and Fall. That is it.. I think that is why I loved living in N. C. years ago. Of course now they have snow too. LOL
You all have such wonderful , beautiful plants and do such an outstanding job in caring for them I think it is amazing. There are so many people who just do not give a darn. they buy a plant and that is it. It sits in one spot and they water when they feel like it or when the plant looks like it is dying. Just like irresponsible pet owners.
Must get busy. Have a great day. JB
JB, so sorry to hear of the loses, especially the military one! God Bless them!
This summer weather has been so screwy everyone! Not hot enough, too hot! Geesh, don't know how anyone can get anything to grow.
You just take it easy, and don't over do it.
I love that plant too! How to you make them grow on the rock?
Hello ladies,
not promoting any blooms here, even though I do have a few brugs showing off.. but asking you all to please say a prayer for your hostess, LK and her son.
This is what she posted on SI today.
I know this merits the urgency for prayers.

Ladie, I just a call from my daughter in law, and she told me my son was run over by a pick up truck last night. So far, they thinkin nothing is broken, but the truck ran over his legs and lower back! Theya re doing test to see if his kidneys ansd liver are OK!
I am out the door, driving to San Antonio, so please pray for him!
I will post as soon as I can!
Thanks,
Jaye
Oh my God, how awful. Prayers in NJ for sure.
This is just terrible. And yes I am sending prayers.
Kim
Prayers from Ca. for LK and family. Hope all goes well.
I was feeling good because I learned today that the stess test and EKG they did on hubby shows everything is fine. Doctor says he has a strong heart and no signs of blockage. She was worried about doing the procedure for blockage because he only has one kidney. She really stressed NO SMOKING. He uses the smokeless tobacco which I complain about too. At least I do get some good news now and then.
Amen Pegi! That's one welcome news today.
to let you know about Linda and her son, she posted this on Facebook earlier this evening.
[I just left his room, he is in a lot of pain, even with morphine, but I think I would be too, after being hit by a pick up truck! They are doing more test on his kidneys I will post as I can.
Thanks for the prayers!]
