Well yes and no Linda Kay. Good news in that the current drain field did last a long time and the price quoted was in line with what has to be done. Bad news because it has to be done soon--like the next month or I might have bigger problems!! Process already started with the filing for the permit and health department license required and the soil test that will be needed. I just wasn't expecting to have to spend 5000.00 at this time--not on that anyways!!

Seems like it already there, and it just needs to be replaced, why do you need all the permits? City just wants more money, again!
We live in the outsjirts of town, and there are no building permits needed here. Anyone can build new, or remodel as they want. Sometimes I wish there were permits, to keep some of the shacks from going up!

The current drain field is no longer working so has to be relocated. Florida-I think it is the state, could be the county-- requires health permits in order to protect ground water and so forth. Otherwise you would have those who just didn't do it right and pollution would be worse. Living on a lake also has something to do with it-- we have a good fishing place and that has to be protected. Can't complain about permits as I know about all that from the line of work hubby did. The soil has to be tested to find an area that peculates so the drain field will be effective. The price is the top of the quote, if I am lucky it could be less by about 1500.00 Keep your fingers crossed. Also thank goodness the tank is concrete (apparently all of them back in the 70's were not) so that could have really have done me in for sure. Unfortunately it is a necessary evil I am faced with. I complain about all the HOA rules but basically they aren't all bad (this one is health department so HOA is out) as they do for the most part keep the area from losing to much in value.

We went to Sages school music program tonight......Bill, me, Laura and Sages dad....in addition we invited Sages mother and grandmother.....this is the first time she has been to one of Sages school events as there was a restraining order in place until the past fall. Everything went well so maybe she will get to attend other school events in the future...son in law isn't too happy about it, but we just make sure there is no contact between him and his ex......I think it is good for Sage and her mother both for Holly to get to attend some of these important things in Sages life.

Yes timing was horrible but I talked with a very dear friend of mine and hubby's so I feel much better about things. Not happy but better.

Waiting on the Dish Network guy to do some repairs.. then do my regular chores out there.
I had planted some brugs right smack in the middle of my ginger and canna beds, and they seem to be doing well. Got to find ways of minimizing all that watering.. Seriously, it takes me more than an hour to go around. Kel's supposed to install sprinklers.. but you know how that goes, when his job is already so physical. Don't have the heart to push him to do it.
The interior of this house is still WIP for years now.
There were some brugs that I had dug out cause they looked dead.. Threw them in a bucket of water.. lo and behold... a couple start sprouting leaves after a month!!! Yay.. one is Naughty Nick, the other Penomenal!! So lesson learnt.. give your brug twigs a chance!
Some Asiatic Lilies are in bloom. My Asiatics are two years old!

BJ, you just take a good look at that to-do-list and scratch off all the things you wouldn't do for just you and Don; that's us! I know it is easy for US to say and I know you want everything just right but we don't want you so frazzeled that you can't enjoy our visit.

Cody, I love your fountain. Don bought me a fountain a few years back, and it stayed in storage for a long time... when we bought this house, I didn't have anywhere to put it. So, when we remodeled the master bathroom, I made a place for it... you can see it here over the toilet.

Yes the person helping if more like my older brother, I sort of gained him when I married. He and my hubby were very close friends and remained so for 50 years. His wife was one of the former secretaries who worked with them and she is also a very special gardening buddy!!!

Jaye... funny how that happens... I've been known to water dead roots for years before giving up on them. Well, I was trying to change my ways, and threw out a Mandevilla that struggled all winter, and showed no signs of life this spring, So, I tossed it in the compost pile, and replaced it. Don came walking into the house with it yesterday morn, bare roots and all... trailing dirt all the way through the house to find me. It had sprouted new leaves, and he was so excited to show me. So, I found it a big pot, and it's now in the nursery.

Janice, I'm really not doing anything that I wouldn't do for just me and Don... it's just that some of these things have needed doing for quite some time, and you all coming just lit a fire under us to get it done. You can't imagine how good it feels to finally see some progress toward the "Git R Done" list. Of course... keeping Don on track is my biggest task... instead of just finishing a project, cleaning up after old projects, and neatening up areas that needed so little... he usually just wants to start a whole new project... I have to put my foot down sometimes.

Marion... I'm going to take the entire day off on that Friday... I will not do anything all day, until you all arrive... promise.

Jaye, heck... you can get in that tub if you want.
Sheesh... Don and I have only used it ONCE since the remodel... we're shower people.

Marion that is what I drink when I am at home, but when on the road, I drink what ever. I only drink one or two cups anyway, so regular on the road does not do too much harm to the tummy. Marion, how did the guys on the fishing on the dock turn out? Did you tell them to take a hike?

BJ, there was also a Blue Sky vine that has revived!!! I kinda discarded it this spring , still in its' black pot, when it didn't show any sign of life. Another miracle... it's now a foot tall, with beautiful leaves.

Don't tempt us BJ!! Kel will drool over the tub, I'm a shower gal too!

Finally had to stop them from fishing Linda Kay. He came for 7 days straight bring more and more each time so I finally said no more! Felt bad but not that bad

Oh my are we alike or are we alike. Watered yesterday morning and this morning I found my Blue Sky Vine flourishing!! Thought it was long since dead. Found new growth on the Mandevilla the oldest GD gave me last year just because she saw it and told her Daddy, Grandma needs it--it's pink!! Good reasoning, don't you think. I think it is Alice Dupont.

Gingers are up and looking good Jaye!! Babying them to death but nursing some other cuttings. I am afraid to mention as every time I do, I lose them--not this time so hopefully I will have something to show before long!! I think you know what cuttings--don't say name it might jinx them!!!! I am thinking more and more the hosta Deborah sent didn't make it even after I moved them into pots. I need the steam roller--where is Truest(Joni--I think is her name) when you need her?

Jaye... I've got a asiatic bloom too!!!

Some of my asiatics have gotten really tall for some reason... and I think it's because they're planted under a palm tree and don't get enough sun... but they're about to bloom too.

Here's the orange one in bloom now.

Wooohoooo... here's another orange.. either Orange Art or Pup Art that went to the orangey side. Love it!

This is my madavilla from last year, she never quit blooming all through the winter!
Still working on hubby!

I do have a question about Bleeding Heart. Anyone know anything about them?
I bought 2 roots several months ago... planted them each in their own pot, and have been tapping my fingers waiting to see some sign of a sprout. Well, I gave up, and bought some more roots about 2 weeks ago. When I went to remove the old ones from the pot, I noticed that they had tiny sprouts beginning to emerge from the roots. So, I put them back in the pots, and put the new ones in different pots. Still nothing peeping up above the dirt...
How long do they take to come up? Is this one of those things that I won't see until next year?

I love Mandavillea.. they just don't love me! Never had one flourish under my thumbs.
