Coffee Break #11 - Moms rule!

Thomaston, CT

Some nice ferns for the garden, Louise---they're easy care. Also the brighter coral bells ie 'Miracle' or 'Monet'.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Some of my TB irises aren't budding. Anybody else have that problem? What am I doing wrong? Is it too late to give them bloom booster?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Mine are, but I don't know if they're TB or SD or ID or AM or DST! And they'll probably fall over anyway. But DH is finally starting to notice how nice things look planted in clumps!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Why will they fall over Carrie? I am a very nervous iris grower. Between Damien digging them up and me planting them too deep or mulching them too much it's very scary for iris in my garden. I need all the info I can get.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Dahlianut, I plant mine so the top 1/4 of the rhizome is showing. I mulch up to an inch surrounding the clump. Carrie, I usually stake my Tall Bearded irises. They're the ones with the bluish-grey, super wide, really stiff leaves. Siberians and Dutch irises have much thinner leaves and the Siberian leaves look almost like grass, or like the leaves of a daylily... sorta.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I don't know which kind we have, they have no name, but they are very pretty until they fall over which sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks Sof. I just get so nervous when it gets so cold here to leave them that exposed. My friend from here Birdies the Bulbous Queen says 'treat them like dirt' and finally I'm learning to do that. I did have some luvly tall bearded last year. I did't stake them and they seemed fine. Maybe cuz it's cooler here so the stalks are stronger? That's a good question. The siberians that were gifted 2 years ago are coming on strong so maybe will bloom this year? (hope, hope) and I think I have finally foiled Damien so maybe I'll have some dwarfs bloom this year too. I'm ever hopeful about iris in my garden ^_^

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Very nice dahlia-n!!

Allison, the yellow iris is from me and I'm pretty sure it's called 'Baby Blessed'.

I've been M/I.A. for a few days due to planting and visitors.
My Brother came for the day on Tuesday then Wed. DH & I planted :
2 plum trees
2 apple trees
1 Magnolia
1 Dogwood
1Clethra
1Quince
1 Spirea
8 dayliles
5 assorted perennials

Thursday we rototilled the garden and then went out to eat as it was our 15th wedding aniversary. Today i'm resting. ^_^

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

The iris is 'Fall Fiesta' and the blooms were as big as 2 fists together. It was much more yellow last year. Usually it looks like this http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/131971/

Happy Endangered Species Day all! I've been told that it isn't good to hug an endangered species so later today I am going to do a little habitat cleanup instead.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Congratulations on your 15 years, new plantings and guests, Celeste!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

O I missed that! Happy Anniversary Pixie!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Happy 15th to you and Brian, Celeste!! Many more. Nice to see successful marriages, speaking of endangered species! Our 18th is about a month away.

Happy Anniversary Victor!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks everyone, DH says it's nothing. We've been 'together' 23 years so he thinks 15 is nothing. lol

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, dnut, but not yet. I heard the last month of the 18th year is the toughest.^_^

I was always told the 7th year in a marriage was the 'make or break' year. DH and I was together for 8 years BEFORE we got married so it never bothered us at all. ^_^

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Are the kidlings still living in the treehouse? Maybe if you let them back you might make it.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

:O :O This is our 7th year :O :O

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Good luck!! I'm sure you'll be fine!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Remember one year equals about eight husband years.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Ha ha ha

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

To be honest divorce was not on my mind but murder was last week.......
DH came in from outside and I was doing dish's at the sink. He slide his cold hands on my waist under the shirt thinking he was funny. Well it seems DH had some how come in contact with P.I. oil. YES SIREE BOB I have P.I. on my belly.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

My DH says he's good for another year as long as I don't do any more 'brilliant experiments'. (I phoned him to be sure. whew!)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I think murder is legal in that case.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh no! Do you have Tecnu?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes but I didn't know at the time he had touched it...he didn't even know until he broke out.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I just came in for a bit of a break, read this and now I have to go wash my hands and arms, cuz I feel prickly. Man , power of suggestion!!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

O dear.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

That's better. Now to catch up on some threads. I love this place!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hope Sophie doesn't get it!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh man Celeste, I'd hafta hurt him for sure.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Well - it could have been worse. He could have touched you elsewhere...

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I thought about it but couldn't hit him as his eye was already swollen shut from the P.I. lol

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thats what I said!!! Thank goodness he didn't come in all "frisky"!!!!!!!!!!!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Happy Anniversary Celeste! (and the guy spreading skin pustules)
