Pixie - thanks for that rhubarb tart recipe. I'll be making that. We love strawberry/rhubarb goodies!
Nancy - the trillium and lady slippers grow wild here. We learned the hard way that they don't transplant well. sigh.
Coffee Break #11 - Moms rule!
The tart was great, not to tart, not to sweet.
Speaking of sweets, just came back from Holly's swap and am enjoying an iced coffee and some of Ladygardeners fab irish soda bread. Best I ever had. She's going to give me the recipe.
You guys are making me hungry--and Ijust ate! Maybe I'll go for the iced coffee...
Two recipes now to try. DH likes Irish soda bread. I was sorry I was unable to go to Holly's Swap.
Did anybody see that 'The Plant Hunter' - Tim Wood is related to Frodo (Elijah Wood) I thought that was pretty cool.
Jan, you'll have to make the next one. It was a lot of fun. Got to meet Allison & Jen. Lot's of laughs and oodles of great plants!
Stormy, you'll have to check out the Wellsweep event in early June. It is near Hackettstown. You are closer than I am. I am going to try my best to get to it. Check the thread about it , or Dmail, Allison.
Glad you had a great time.
Hey Stormy! You stole some bread???!!! I should have done that, actually should have stole some of your salad...man was that good!
It was great to meet so many dg'rs.
Here's the well sweep thread...

Today was a little sad. Mickie my field mouse who lives in my garden shed fell in box of dahlia stakes and by the time I found him he was dead. My true luv (from a planet invaded by field mice) is ok. I'm not ok. I liked Micky. He was very polite and only chewed up a couple of peat pots so what's the big deal? Anyhoo I buried Mickey under the Mayday tree today. mi mi mi
♪♪ M I C K E Y M O U S E ♪♪ ok I'll get over it now that I'm singing. Thanks for letting me share.
Oh, DNut! How sad! My condolences.
Welcome to the family, stormy!
Awww--poor Mickey mouse :-( They say a death caused by starvation is preceded by a euphoria and a deep sense of peace...I'm sure he found his way to mouse heaven.
Oh, poor Mickey...RIP
oh I should have stole some of that strawberry bread as well.... boy was that good
here is the well sweep thread

Strawberry bread?!!! Now that sounds interesting!
oh man was it good.... like desert & breakfast all in one!
Ha! Talk about drool! (she said...reaching for a towel)
That DOES sound yummy! We had waffles and berries this morning for brunch. Oh yeah, and bacon! Anna went by the bacon plate, swiped one (two), and proclaimed that she was eating it to save her family from swine flu! Oh sure!
wow this thread was busy - celeste happy anniversary and sorry to hear about the 15 yr. itch you caught!
Ours is this Wednesday i think we'll make it:)
Congrats to all four of you!
No, Jen, I did not Steal the bread!!! Lady gave it too me. She is the best baker, bakes everyday. I'm growing pineapple sage just to make her PS pound cake, leaves and blooms in it. Here's her awesome cookie recipe thread. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/794563/
Who brought the strawberry bread? It was fabulous, so was that bread on the appetizer table. I did not bring a salad, I brought most of the appetizers.
Thanks, Candyce for the welcome and Jen for the link.
Trying to sort all of the plants from the swap. What's with all of the unlabled plants????? Have to start a mystery garden. Will probably be the best looking bed!!
Dahlia there is life after squirrells.
Happy anniversaty all.
Thanks and Happy Anniversary to you too Bill!!
Thank you Stormy, glad you had a great time at the plant swap. Wished I lived closer!!
Congrats, Bill! How many years?
Best Wishes to you Bill, & to DW---our son's 5th was Fri.----he just called, & all 5 are coming to dinner---didn't have the heart to tell them we had dinner at 12:00 with my Mom & sister---well, they're going to eat the leftovers I was saving for tomorrow. Too tired to cook again! The girls never eat anything---not until ice cream is mentioned.
Oh, Robin, I have one like that. Not hungry for what we cook, just for dessert, which we hardly ever have. Somehow, she's not thin. (You would think, what with all the food she WILL NOT eat, she'd be dropping pounds all over the place.)
nine years for us - thanks all
thx sherrie
We got married Christmas Eve Dec. 24th 1994, at our previous home. We spent 185 bucks to get married, that is for the ceremony. We had the cake, pot luck bla bla bla no fancy duds, but everything including the garter belt, champagne enough food for an army. 75 people came and all the Christmas lights were up. I cant even remember if we had 2 or 3 trees lite up that year. The outside of the house oh my gosh. 18 windows 4 doors and trees and shrubs all lite up. I quit Christmas lights after the bill was 1,800 for one month. I cant remember the actual number of lights but it was up around 64,000. Nope not now our lights are out
Good grief! Memories
Happy Anniversary!
Oh yeah, Stormy, my brain was tired...Roses did the salad. Did you make the hummus?
Sherrie, sounds beautiful.
I only had 2 unlabeled plants.
Sherrie, that is MY kind of wedding! I wore white dress out of a catalog, a shin length sundress, he wore a suit or maybe just a jacket and tie, best man borrowed DH's other sport jacket (I think he was expecting to have to rent a tux), best lady wore an LL Bean dress I picked out, we probably had 30 - 50 people if that. Fanciest thing was my two DD's and their cousin in matching dresses. Disposable film cameras at reception, no official photos exist. No DJ, no nothing. For a honeymoon we left the girls with my mom for the night and stayed one night at a fancy hotel downtown. The next morning we came home. I think the honeymoon was $99. My engagement ring was $350.
Congrats to all! My daughter is getting married in less than 6 weeks. And then they're both going to quit work and go back to school to get Pharmacy degrees. What a way to start a marriage, I don't know. I don't want to even talk about how much this is costing, and we did quite a few budget things (fake flowers, they made their own invitations, discount this discount that). Oh well, it should be fun, after that they're on their own!
Welcome, Stormy!!!
Dahlia - sorry about Mickey. Love your big heart!!
Bill - congrats on your anniversary!
Sherrie - nice memories you shared about your Christmas wedding.
Nancy - congrats on your upcoming DD's wedding! Enjoy!!
Candyce - please thank Anna for keeping us safe from the swine flu. I have a fever this morning.....too much contact with the little ones and maybe too much folderol over the weekend. There's just too much left to do to get this place in working order. I always under-estimate how much we have to do here inside and out once we land. But......must rest, rest, rest instead. Ugh!
Ditto.
Drumlin---exciting times! Sherrie, we were married on Dec. 29th---lots of Christmas decorations also---then we went to Williamsburg, VA for a honeymoon----the decorations there were all natural & just beautiful. Like you, our reception was in the house we were renting---a big, old 13 room farmhouse---that was 35 years ago!
Hey D-Nut, I received my very first 2 Dahlias at Ric and Holly's swap...I may get hooked when I see them bloom. uh oh!
Thank is so exciting flowerjen ^_^ New members of Dahliaholics Anonymous are welcomed with open arms on the Dahlia Forum ^_^
Happy Anniversary wha and Mrs wha!
Happy Anniversary Bill and Mrs. Bill!
Flowerjen - "uh oh" is right........they got me last summer.......dahlias are very dangerous plants! LOL
I'm so bad at overwintering them inside. If I manage to dig them up in time and carefully store them, then when spring comes, 1/2 the time I'm too late getting them in the ground! I love them, but wish they were perennials here.
