This is called tulipa 'Flair' and it bloomed when we were away last year, so I am happy to see it. I only planted 10 of it in 2007and I think we have 8 back. Patti
Garden Photos of '09.... #15
Some other blooms. Patti
LOVE< LOVE< LOVE the beds, Patti. I will jsut have to rethink tulips, especially 'eye Catcher' and 'Spring Green' The hot colors in your first pic are spectacular. I imagine it was like Christmas morning to see the swaths of color in the gardens when you got home.
How exciting to get that great deal on a place to stay. Location, location, location. Glad DS was able to scout it out for you and give you the green light.
I/m going to try and guess your Tulips Victor ...
1 'Shirley' or 'Elegant Lady'
2 'Blushing Beauty'
Meant to say .
Patti your beds are fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 is definitely right. I think 1 is Shirley - that rings a bell. Very good!
I am so amazed how our garden plants make it through all the cold weather and snow. I love to see them poke up for the first time in the spring and am amazed how fast they grow once they start. i only lost 2 plants from last year, a Harlequin Euonymus and a Foxglove that I hoped would come back. Every thing else seems to be doing well.
I'm happy that several have early flowers.
The picture shows (top left) yellow jonquills (sp) (top right) Lepards Bane - put in late last year, had no idea how pretty it would be, (bottom left) Purple Vinca - simple but so very colorful, (bottom right) Dwarf Fothergilla (beaver creek) - very unique flower.
I see a lot of new shoots for several of the Day Lilies and Lilies. It might be a very colorful year.
Chuck
Looks great, Chuck - congrats!
Looks great Chuck.nice to see you posting again. ^_^
Thanks Victor, but I've own both of those tulips at one time or another. lol
I like your up close and personal!
Thanks!
The last one is nice too, I like white and yellow.
Wonderful, wonderful pics, all! So many!
Patti, your bulb beds are fantastic! So much color. So glad you had such a good time on your trip. Isn't it great to get away for awhile?!
Karen
wow great shots today everyone... love all the tulips... I saw three of the grosbeaks at the same time today... (until the blue jay chased them)
good news is... I kept telling Randy that Victor said "put a water feature out and you thought you had a lot of birds before"..... soooooo now he can't wait to set up that three tiered thing I bought 3 years ago (still sitting in the box)
before I went to work I turned the micro sprinklers on.... forgot to turn them off before I left....OOPS.. Randy said he woke up and there had to be a hundred birds back there taking baths... just reinforced what Victor said... THANKS VICTOR!!!! hopefully he can figure out how to set the thing up this weekend
woooo hoooo!!!!
you have a lot of winkys Victor!!
Hee hee - great!!
Patti-what an awesome condo find, good that your ds was able to check it out first for you.
Chuck, that tulip may be one of those color changing ones, I think I saw them in Brent and Becky's catalog.
Thanks all! I agree, I thought that anemone looked like it had a rose shape to it as well. I have one more picture of it from a slightly different angle that I couldn't get the computer to post last night, I think that it makes it look even more like a rose. I'll have to try it again tonight. In the morning light it looks purple, and in the afternoon it looks close to blue. I love it!
Victor, I love that last daffy shot!
Dogwalker, I love that color changing tulip. I've seen it advertised and had wondered if it changed color as mutch as they said it did. Now i know. I like it!
Lovely shots Patti!
Dahlianut.... I sure hope it warms up soon for you. I'd be a basketcase if I lived where you do!
Great pics Bill, your yard is looking great! Especially the scenary in the picture with the coral bark maple.
this is the second container that I planted of the anemones that has more than one plant in the pot and i'm still toiling over what to do about them! As in... do I divide them and risk losing one or let them grow to gether and risk losing one?
nothing wrong with red white and blue RC... that first anemone shot is a keeper!
dogwalker, Your tulip is probably Darwin Hybrid Daydream which I have bought twice.
The notes from my journal - Height 22". Flowers open yellow, turning apricot-orange as they mature 8 for 5.95 TULIP - Bluestones 2006 and 8.20 for 20 from Brent and Becky 2007

Although the novelty of changing colors is grand, this tulip's petals just plain fry in the mid- to late- spring sun.
Opening a bright lemon-yellow the flowers mature to golden-orange-coral shades with broadly open petals.
They are so delicate that wind treats them like rags and it does not take much to damage them. I'm sure there are better color-changing tulips out there with better petal substance.
You can see it in a very yellow phase and an orange one in the picture with Tulipa Juan in the picture on the left best. Because I read what James wrote (he has been helpful to me in the past with good information) I planted mine in as sheltered spot as possible and we have enjoyed them very much, but we have a cool spring here. I planted several others that change dramatically too. Antoinette and Gudoshnik are two good ones. I have to replant Antoinette each year, but I won't live without that one. Gudoshnik has been coming back just fine since 2006. Here is Todd's take and I take his thoughts as "the word" on many plants.

This tulip is quite an old hybrid, developed in 1952. I have lost count of how long I've had it...easily 20 years plus. I have not seen this cultivar for sale much in recent years, probably superseded by more fancy cultivars. The subtle red feathering over yellow makes this old cultivar still desirable.
