Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #101

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

I have been trying to get some one to clean up the mess since last fall when we had the storm that wouldn't go away here. Had 5 trees down that I have tried to do something with but just didn't have the strength or equipment. Thank goodness they are gone. Crepe myrtles are wonderful shrubs/trees but with no sun they aren't much! I still wonder why anyone would even plant them as shaded as this lot is. Beats me! As much as it hurts, I had them removed (hope the HOA doesn't figure that out) and plan to put some other under story trees in their spot.

That swap sounds fun but I'm far from a sewer. LOL

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

The holes in the vents are too big for steel wool, big lizards get in through those holes. I bought a small roll of screen and wrapped it around on the insides of the vents but it's not wrapped correctly, it has buckled on the edges.

Betty, it was nothing. Just a bit of googling. I don't have much to offer this world, but I can do the simple things to help out here and there. I have a few sites I used to name some of these menagarie of animals here also.

Fairy, on another site I follow on Caringbridge, a friend adopted two little girls over the last two years....they are in Louisiana....girls are Ellie Sue (Suzanne) and Gabbie Lou.

I still would like to change my name to Brooke.

Debbie

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I love that name. I like Rachael and Rebecca too.

Glenview, IL

Screaming...Lizards??? holy smolies, I'd never go in that shelter!

OK...maybe take a picture and we can come up with an idea of how to fix it.

Debbie, not sure about the name thing...But Brooke is a pretty name.
I knew a Brooke once, she was a beautiful young gal. Now I always think of Brooke with long red hair freckles on her cheeks.

If I could change my name...hmmm, not sure what it would be, have many, many favorites!

Great Article today Shar! I adore Lady Slippers.

OMG, did I not say everyday is my birthday? Wait till you see, Kim, Flamino Kim sent me a belated Birthday gift. LOL, she has had it for a very long time...Anyway, i received it today. It's a beautiful native Vase.
Will post pics as soon as my batteries charge...grrr what else is new.

Baton Rouge, LA

Darn Stacey - Debbie beat me to it! I have old phone books also if you need to
My last name (married name) is extremely common....LeBlanc

DH demands the middle B be capitalized....

I'll explain later....running to Spring Band Banquet....

Hello All -
Tubby - that's great to know! Someone finally told me to put cayenne pepper on my petunias.....to keep the squirrels off...

I smothered them all with red pepper (about a week ago) and today is the first day that I have flowers again! Neat trick!

Well - the Band sounded excellent....wish I could send the performance to you....but it's just that much better Live!

I got to watch DS on percussion and was really impressed - usually I just can't see him in the back since I (as with Sharran, et al) suffer from being Vertically Challenged...

I really have not given him credit musically...with percussion....

Stacey - in what parish does your story take place? I'd love to know what names you end up using. Now back to explaining....DH demands that the "B" in LeBlanc be capitalized...some story about those folks named "Leblanc" are from the "illegitimate side"....probably just an old wives tale...but it's cute how he insists.....

headed out to work on Band Banquet stuff - that is coming up Sunday...

Back in a bit...

Mary

After a conversation with another DG friend , I need to change most of them to make them authentic. It takes place in Kraemer

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Kinda quiet tonight..

If you were around in 1919
(just before prohibition started)
and came upon the following poster.........

I mean seriously, Would you quit drinking?

Thumbnail by tubbytee
Lyndonville, NY

I think those lips are what started them drinking in the first place ! Have mercy!

Went over to my DD's house...she was storing some of my Moms belongings in her garage. They were all in totes, so we brought about 8 home for me to go through.

Nothing is ever that simple is it? DH heard a noise. Yep, inhabitants. Now this garage is fairly new, nice doors and pretty much sealed....but don't ya know, my DD...who loves loves loves mice....sends some home with me. A mom and five babies. DH of the kind heart....let them go in the field behind the house. Lovely!

Sweet dreams.....isn't he cute?

Hey Debbie - Yes but he would have scared the Bejesus out of me!

Stacey - I"ve never heard of Kraemer Louisiana - where is it?

Quiet nights lately!

Hugs,

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Has been quiet hasn't it??

He is cute, as long as he is somewhere else........

Lyndonville, NY

Mary, he did me also....as did his family! Thankfully, DH moved fast as he knew I would have woke the kids and the entire neighborhood up screaming....and then climbing on top of the kitchen table...which would then collapse...and I would get hurt....he would have to call 911....which would send 2 fire trucks and for 248 volunteer firemen who would then stand around with their hands in their pockets...staring and not having any idea what to do...waiting for the ambulance....because they would be laughing their rearends off.

BUT WAIT...as I think...that could have been my ticket back in to see Dr. Hottness! Dang...missed my chance!

I am going to bed! Sweet dreams
Debbie

Hi all and thanks for the well wishes. took me a long time to read thru all the posts here tonight. Betty, I ams soooo sorry to hear of your loss, and all the troubles your friends are going thru! I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

As for me, what happened was I was having a weird allergic reaction to my cholestrol medicine. I hadnt slept in 5 days...not a wink! so they took me to the hospital to see what was wrong, figured it was my meds and also anxiety due to my sons situation. They changed my medication, but I am now in some sort o nursing home place (which is wonderful cause I can go outside and smoke here! lol!) I just started the new medication today, but its 2AM and I am still not the least bit sleepy, which is really scary! They'll watch me to see how I do on the new meds, and hopefully let me go home next week sometime.

My poor DH is beside himself, running himself raggedworking all day and then coming to visit me every night :o( he also has to do counselling with my DSD 2x a week, so I feel extra bad about him coming to see me every day.

I am hoping and praying that all those plants that I ordered in the co-ops dont arrive on my doorstep while I'm here! UGH!

I'll try and check back in tomorrow,so I wont be so far behind!

Debbie-Ew no he was NOT cute-I do not like rodents at all-all I can think of is about the diseases they tend to carry:( Sorry...

Mary-it is about an hour W of New Orleans on the Des Allemands lake-a small town which is what I wanted for my setting.

Terry-that was a scary photo and agree with Debbie-that is probably what started the men drinking!!LOL

AnnMarie-hello there sweetie!!

Lyndonville, NY

Fairy, if it makes you feel any better....these are country mice, not city mice that live in dumpsters and trash. Pretty much field mice living on corn and grains and such. I definately am not a fan of them....but this guy was only about 1 1/2 inches long...so I was OK. His Mom however, nahhhhh.

Have a good day
Debbie

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL-I guess I put them all in the same category-little skin piercing teeth and germs!!LOL

happy days to get to go smoke!!!

judy, wow place is shapping up! see now you have to stay home lol
ummm its alicia lol but it is taking a turn for disapointment for fathers day,
his son, asked me if it would be possible to go visit other relatives while he was here, that sent a red flag up, so i discussed it with the daughter and the inlaws they said i would be making a big problem, they said he is divorced has no reason to be in tennessee, and that he wouldnt leave here, and mil said remember you just fixed everything now why would you look for more trouble between you now that things are good .
fil said to take him to oregon to visit the daughter and have a good time there alicia likes that idea better because she dosnt think she can get 4 days off in a row.
so back to the drawing board.
now the district mgr is really pushing me to complete my work book dh sems to think their going to get rid of someone in our district but i dont even want that posistion at the currant time.
so lots to think about this week...

LK I be okay fine..Rainy here for the next 3 days they say...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning,

Staying quiet..brother Bernie called me this a.m. was telling me about his friend Mike, think I mentioned it last week about his son going missing, left a bar in a little boat, they found his body a couple of days ago..although they removed the body, boat had overtuned he was under, he had taken his coat off and boots off I guess to try and swim, had a big cut across his forehead so they had to do autopsy..imagine, OPP do not take the boat out of the water..Mike had to go last night and do it..I personally think it's disgraceful..brings back memories when my second cousin and her children were all murdered by her hubby..family had to go do the cleanup..got to be a better way...so Bernie was feeling bad, the my mom called, she has the flu and it's been going on for 2 weeks, I was so sure she was going to say perhaps it's the swine flu, but she didn't..thank goodness...she's just in the last month put so many $$$ into their 2 vehicle and now she decides that she can't trust old cars and should she buy 2..this after spending about $5,000 on engine work and body work..shaking my head!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like the good lord is testing you, your family and friends! Keep your chin up, as it will all pass soon! Stay strong.
What is the latest on the court, about his insurance case?

Please take care.

HUGS

Here is a beautiful pink hibiscus that opened this morning.

Then we get on the topic of her moving...my younger brother thinks she should move to Wasaga Beach, maybe your equivalent to what, activity wise in the summer to Daytona..Stacey took you to this beach...

Anyway, he's interested in retiring there, he's in his early 50's so exciting for him but what does someone almost 80 going to do with bumper/bumper traffic in the summer due to tourism..so I suggest she sell her place in Toronto, move to the cottage (not a cottage, a home and a nice home at that) and spend the winters in Clearwater Florida where she has a place...well she goes on about how she doesn't know if she'd like to live at the cottage, too boring, shucks she loves to gamble and there is Rama Casino only 10 minutes away, how you can't be shopping everyday (this from a woman that does) how she joined the church group but the only thing they want to do is play cards, on and on and on...if fact Suzanne was leaving for Toronto when I was talking to her, she yells out, 'stop shaking your head at your mom while talking Betty' thank goodness she didn't hear her..lol...so I ask what type of things would interest her, of course she says she wants to continue doing dolls and there is nobody in the area that sells supplies...ok she's got over 30 dolls, almost life size, just play house with them..lol..aren't I terrible..she'd be close to me, to Bernie to her sister and brother but no..so no sense trying to give her advice..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Linda, thanks for asking..

Bernie said this morning they were in contact with the insurance..they are going over all the expenditures and they will make him an offer within the next week or so, minimal I'm sure..have you over a barrel, courts would take almost 2 years to hear it if he wants to fight it, by then he'd lose his home...so he's hoping for close to $400.K.. Agent said they should be too much longer in getting back to him...not much longer, that can mean different things to different people...her time schedule vs. his...but it is good news, maybe then he could get back tothe land of the living and start feeling better...

Was just talking to Rita, she says Ger talked to his sister for 1 hr. last night which she says is a 1st. so that has to be good, he's stripping outdoor furniture near the water, talking little so she thinks she'll not come over tonight..she wants to stay by his side...

I leave at 2:00 for the Funeral Home..meeting all the girls and George at 2;45pm...not looking forward to it..I have problems with funeral homes...but so does everyone else right..

Now, I've downloaded Kyle's photo's, all 409 (lol) but where are they, wanted to share a few...

Will go look

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, I am going to be with you in thoughts and prayers today. I am so sorry for the bad week you are having. My Mom always said "it comes in 3's" when there was a death or bad news.

I have been going through many of moms belongings today, and done more than a fair share of crying. My eyes hurt. I know this needs to be done, and is part of the healing process.

I have to share this one thing. I always look for "signs" from Mom. A cardinal, a butterfly....pretty much just wishful thinking on the part of a kid missing her mom. Well, I found a bag....full of my Moms teddy bears. She had quite a few. Well, at the bottom of the bag was an old 45 rpm record.....the title of that song on there? Don't Forget I still Love you.

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Debbie, talk about a sign...you had best treasure that record...
It is extrememly hard going through the possessions of a loved one..I still in my top drawer have Rogers' wallet, know I was suppose to destroy his ID but NOT...few handwritten numbers and a few photo's...just can't see myself throw them away..leave that up to the boys one day...

Along with the tears I do hope you smile from time to time...
