Spring Bulbs - What's Bloomin? V

Western, WI(Zone 4a)

Leawood, you actually have leaves on your trees and wonder of wonders, I saw iris buds showing up in your picture.
No leaves here yet or iris buds.
If we ever get rid of this cold wind that has blowing all week, maybe things will spruce up.

Just had to pop in to say I had some time today to go through this beautiful thread photo by photo and thoroughly enjoyed all the beauties! And especially some of the bulb pairings of tulips and daffs. Very creative!

My camera is out of commission, but I wanted to report that I had a pretty good tulip crop this year, restricting them to urns and containers to keep the critters at bay. I paired them with pansies and ivy around the base, sometimes coral bells, and added in a few daffs here and there to complement. It was fun to do the "Color Echoes" mixing perennials, tulips and daffs this year.

Now my various blue bells are up in the woods. And some Camassia and Ornithalgon. Over all, it's been a splendid bulb year here.

Keep posting the pics. I love 'em!

Yeah! spring has spring with glorious color up north! Lovely pic's DahliaNut

I have a nice color echo with the new tulips and the dogwoods. Its hard to get
a shot that's tight enough to see the tulips but broad enough to get the dogwoods

Tammy, love the picture of oyur yard. What a gorgeous sight! Thansk for sharing.

Hemo, love your alliums. I tried them a few years back but didn't have great luck with them. Might have to try again!

Donna, love your tulips! Congratulations on your beautiful blooms! And beautiful Croci and anemones, Dahlia!

Dahlia, beautiful blooms. Another fan, like me, of blue I see! Doesn't it feel good to pay back the generous people who encouraged us with their early blooms?

Lea, the lily flowering are amongst my favorites. I'll have more pics to send.

Tammy, we never see dogwoods here. Such a lovely thing.

Artemiss, isn't Annelinde new? Love that color echo.

Stormyla, what is a noid iris? Is that the iris equivaklnt of a tretraploid lily?

Hemo, I'm a fan of alliums too. Yours are much earlier than mine. Stevie, to know them is to love them.

Donna

LOL Donna, It means that I don't know the name of the cultivar!! NO ID

jmorth or anyone else more familiar with Camassias than I:

I just finished cutting off the dead flower stalks, but it looks like they had seed pods where the blooms had been. Can they be grown from these seed pods? Have I committed Camassia murder by cutting off the stalks? I left the leaves to store food for next year.

Angie

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Cutting off the seed pods was the right thing to do. You can indeed grow more from the seeds but it takes several years to get a blooming size bulb. I have a pot of seedlings coming along now.

somewhere, PA

I've noticed more bloom from the camassia than before. I've had 'em for over 5yrs - maybe 8yrs
and they definitely have lightly self seeded. Very nice.

Artemiss - I love those tulips. Cool Crystal & Annelind. Definitely need to put 'em on my
list.

Stormyla - I would love to go the swap but I have an opportunity to see a wonderful garden
in Maryland. I saw slides of it at a Rock Garden meeting and its glorious. Everyone raves
about it.

Hemo - love the alliums. Especially nice that the deer don't. :-)

Tam

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

I'm luving the alliums too. Mine are up but no sign of buds yet. First tulip opened today. "Showwinner" Daffs are going to be REALLY short this year. Too many cold snaps after they broke ground.

TY, Pardalinum, for the tip. I might give the seeds a try next year and see what happens. I figured it would take some time to get any sizable plant from them.

The 'dogwood tableau' is stunning, Tammy! Love all the other combinations, too. So creative, everybody!

I've had good luck with my camassias too this year. Maybe it's the moon. Also had a big crop of Hyacynthoides. And my alliums are putting on a good show, too.

I must get my camera repaired so I can 'share' along! So much fun to see what everyone is growing! Thanks.

I'm ordering those Annelinde now. Brent & Becky have them as well as another lovely
one called Charming Lady. I already have an order with them for colchicum.

Thank you, Gemini. They are Heucheras Peach Melba, Lime Rickey & Carmel.

Donna Mrs. Backhouse is really pretty. I love Daffs.

This is Luecojum "Gravetye Giant" new this year. Took this photo on Sat & it was 7" tall. Yesterday it had grown to over 12". They are supposed to get 24" tall with 1" bells.
