Spring Bulbs - What's Bloomin? V

Kannapolis, NC

Bea and Tabasco: I want to live in your gardens, six months in one and six months in the other! How well planned and coordinated they both are. I'm so envious. Great views, both of you. I love your combinations of alliums, irises and other spring bulbs with the JM.

Bea, glad you like my fairy. She's a sweetie.

Hemophobic, I love the deep color on that A. Purple Sensation.

Tabasco, All of your groupings are so serene and lovely. I can't believe that you have Foxglove blooming and giant Peony buds!!! You must be in the warmest spot in Ohio.

These cute little daffs popped up every where yesterday. I don't even remember planting these!

Stormyla: Some of my alliums have done well and others have not. I have Allium flavums which have come up but no yellow blossoms like the catalog showed. My Frittilaria did diddly, one thin blade of green and that was it. My anemone didn't even come up, so I've got some things that just didn't perform for me. Don't know why, but I'll try again this fall.

The Camassias, though, were outstanding!

Stormy.. I just love it when I find something I forgot I planted. Those daffs are so sweet. I bet they brightened your day finding them.
My Lupines are getting started. Here is a preview of one. I have a large one next to the driveway that is loaded with buds. Not sure what color it will be as these were started from a seed mix. Looking forward to that!

Well, Bea, it all evens out. You can't grow Camassia but you get those lovely lupines which I have tried so many times in vain to grow. They're just fabulous! Good job.

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

Bea, your lupines are awesome - thanks for posting!

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Think I am tired. Posted lupines on the Bulb forum.. geeze. Glad you enjoyed them!!

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Hemophobic, My short Frittilaria were fine, but the tall ones were pitiful.
It's near impossible to grow Lupines in SE Pa so I can't imagine they would prosper in NC. I have 1 tough Lupine plant that comes back every year.

I'm sending you an Anemone!

A different perspective:

When checking on the basement plants under lights I was greeted by this Aztec Lily:

Stormy: Thank you for the anemone! I was so disappointed when they didn't grow for me. If anyone has some tips, I'll be glad to hear them. One thing I've learned is that they have to be soaked before planting, so maybe that's the trick. I'm going to plant them in some other areas this fall and see if they need more sun than where I had them last fall, too.

Jmorth: did you lie down to take the different perspective on your alliums? That's a neat shot!

Angie

Jmorth, cool shot! Very nice perspective. Pretty lily too.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

jmorth-love the allium shot!

Hemophobic Sorry you have trouble with anemones . I don't soak them but maybe we get more rain than you. I just poke a whole and stick them in the ground. Easy! I have had them come up in the summer also. They are great plants and very photogenic too!

First time I write in this forum as it's the first time I grow bulbs.
I didn't expect much when I put tulip bulbs in the ground last December but luckily they started to pop up and it was a great surprise to me to see these extraordinary colors. At the bottom there were some white and orange big ones that bloomed several weeks ago as the yellow one which is ending its blooming period.

Regards

Carlos

Hemophobic - there's no place in that area to lie down to get that perspective. The camera was situated practically at my shoelaces though.

BeaHive you have such luvly varieties. Do you plant alot of new ones each fall?

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

I try to get new varietes every year.I moved to this house & Oregon in Oct 2006 and had a fresh slate to work with.(new home) A lot of dirt and not much more. Went crazy planting in 07-08 and now I must scale back a bit as I am running out of available space. Need to move again. Next time I want an acre or two. No more of these residential lots.

jmorth, great shots of the allium.

Beahive. You always have great color in you photo's, plus I always like your selections. Especially love your Peach Melba tulips. I am going to try some of those red De Caens next year, even if they are marginal for us. Too pretty.

Tabasco, so nice to see your lovely garden again. Been missing you. That combo of purple alliums with the white iris is great. I planted a clump of Allium giganteum White Giant next to some dark red iris and I hope it is as successful. I can't believe your garden is so young.

stormyla, love that shot of Narcissus 'Elizabeth Ann' and your noid iris in post Post #6498161 is a dear.

Carlos, welcome. I use to have just a few, then went wild. Beware!

Here are Photo's taken this week of the garden, not many as we have had buckets of rain. My favorite new narcissus is Bantam. I think you will see why. Most are have id's, but if you know what any of the missing one's are, please help me out. This one is a noid tulip. Thanks. Enjoy. Patti

bbbrookrd. We have the same zone (7a) The Anemone should do nicely for you.
The peach melba are very nice. First year for those. Sure hope they make a return next year.

Here they are again catching a few rays today. They are small , but put on a pretty show!

Beahive, my 7 is kind of fishy. If I were in town, maybe more plausible. I notice all kinds of things growing well in sheltered spots in town that would never survive out here on the edge of the moors. I plant for 6 mostly due to the cold winds and lots of freezing and thawing. But I think if I plant them up next to the house on the west side, out of the wind, they have a good chance. Worth a try. Carlo, lovely blooms there on your tulips.

Bea: your anemones and the New Design tulip really inspired me for this coming fall! I'm all agog.

Dahlia: You have a pet spider?

Great photos, everyone. Love those bulbs.

Donna, The Leucojums look great.. This is my first year for them. How many did you start with & how long did it take for the clump to expand to that size?

BeaHive, your tulip collection is wonderful! You are encouraging me to branch out!

Jmorth, I love the allium shot in the daytime.

Carlos, Great job on those tulips!! I like the colors that you put together.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Pretty Iris, Beahive.

Daliahnut, Your first daff is exactly 6 weeks behind mine. That's a long time to wait for spring.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Patti, You have a fabulous daff collection! I looked at them several times and narrowed my absolute favorites to Silent Valley, Wisley, Tiritomba, Bantam & Misty Glen. LOL, I felt like I was judging the Miss America pagent!!

That Frittilaria Persica was well worth the wait.

The Tulip Flaming Spring Green is awesome. Three years ago, I did my roadside bed in a similar combination of a red & white striped along with a white. It was lovely. There are still some whites left, but I think the voles were paricularly fond of the striped.

Patti, photo #69 is a beautiful landscape. I particularly like all the the white barked trees with their crowns of buds. Looks like a great spot to add some Winterberries!!

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

Stormyla, too funny. I do that too and some of those on your list are on my top list, Silent Valley, Bantam for sure. But my lists changes daily. Too Fickle, and too many bulbs. I do love 'Flaming Spring Green'. It got hammered last night in a downpour, but still pretty. You are so right about where we planted the winterberry. I can't wait. Patti

Thumbnail by bbrookrd
Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh that's too funny, Patti. I didn't realize you had already gotten your Winterberries. Takes me a lot longer to make up my mind about things that get really big!
