Wow - Sharran - Those quilts are like nothing I've ever seen! And I was bragging about the quilts Grandma made that I have....
I mean of course I will cherish those...particularly where I see remnants of my old clothes...
But this really shows artistry.....WOW!
Great Reviews of Dracula....I really enjoyed it even more than I thought....Can't wait to see the differences in tomorrow's performance!
I'd have been home 20 minutes earlier...but this Dad that always helps the drama teacher (with sets, instruction, props, lighting, etc) stopped DH to tell him at great length how talented DD is and she should continue after High School. He told DH that there was only one other girl in the Parish at DD's level....
What a huge compliment!
Judy - maybe the tiller not working was 'someone' telling you to slow down! I'm just jealous...back from vacation and work all week, it's been gorgeous and I haven't had a chance to plant. The blanket flower I bought in Ft. Walton is still sitting on my back porch...
Marion - do those grow wild where you are? They were wild around the condo...so I wanted one....
Betty - Shame on those boys for not calling to fill you in! I'm sure they did fabulous....Glad that you have a 'gardening buddy' to talk to....
Too bad about the sun allergies....
I'm trying to make a Band Booster Fundraising timeline. Hoping if we keep things the same every year...this group will outlast me...
I'll pop back on in a bit....
Hugs,
Mary
Mary, confused here. Does what grow wild here?
Hey Marion;
Well we kept seeing these flowers growing wild around the condo's in Ft. Walton Beach during our vacation...
I saw it at the nursery where we stopped on the way home..
It's called a "Gaillardia Grandiflora" "Arizona Sun" but also called a Blanket Flower.
We bought one....just so I could have a piece of Florida to plant in my garden....says they are perennials...
The guy at the nursery said they grow wild in Texas.....have you heard of them? They have a beautiful daisy like flower wtih red inside fading out to yellow...
Hugs,
Mary
Sharran, thank you for posting the quilt photos, those are so beautiful! WOW. I just can't imagine the time and patience put into those. My fingers ache just thinking of all the needle work.
Dracula was a hit? Great to hear! Sounds like everyone enjoyed it. And a very good compliment to DD Mary.
My eyes are drooping on me, so going to say good night, sweet dreams.
Debbie
Thank you Debbie! Just don't need DD to hear it though! It'll be impossible to live with her! :)
YES - Trisha - that's what they look like! Pretty colors....wonder if they are 'invasive' since they grow wild....
They are up there in Wash?
Hugs,
Mary
The picture is one I pulled off the internet......I haven't had any problem with mine....but I only got mine last summer....don't know if they grow wild here....don't remember seeing any out and about.......we have a lot of foxglove and sweet peas!! I want some of those too!!
I've seen them listed as an "annual" and a "perennial". DH says that is because they "re-seed" themselves....but I am doubting that.....
Hopefully this weekend will plant it in a "don't water so much" bed with a Sea Grape and a Rosemary....we need some color there.
Everything says they flower Summer through beginning of Fall - but they were definitely flowering in Ft. Walton with cold weather...and the one I bought....(DH made me get the healthy one....as opposed to the one that had the most blooms. :) ) is just now beginning to bloom.....
Pretty though!
Guess it depends on how Cold it gets......have to remember that what you guys consider Cold down that way is about the temp. that half the people up here are pulling out their shorts and flip flops!!
YES! Ha - we definitely were not swimming....during the Spring Break vacation....although there were plenty of ppl in the pool and ocean....
Too cold for us.
Headed to bed...
Hope everyone has a TGIF day tomorrow....
Hugs,
Mary
Have a good night Mary....
Sunshine today......and I got a prescription for my meds without having to go in for an appointment!! Don't know what I would do without Laura and Susie.
Cold and rain tonight....maybe it wash some of the pollen out of the air!
Hugs Trisha! Hope you get a good nights sleep!
Back on my medication so it should be a good night!!
i thougt i had lost u!!
i wonder if each of u can tell me a story either about something magical that happened of the most romantic thing that happened to u.
mine is... my DH gave me a locket with an inscription on the back that says
"mine is the voice that whispers 'I love you' as you fall asleep"..
awwww romantic.
the other was the 24 hours of gifts he gave me one valentines day.. one every hour....
:0)
OH Laura what a beautiful sentiment and keepsake.....bet you shed a few tears when you got it..it's so nice to see you post, you are always on my mind, I worry about you like a Mother Hen..how are things going..puppy trained? you are starting your weekend today, what do you have planned? With a house full am sure there is always something to do..
Shar, Linda Kay posted what I first thought..it must be 'tapestry'..stunning..you must have been walking around all day with mouth half open in awe...
Such beauty, can't even imagine the hours that have gone into those quilts..Sharron my sister keeps a log book when she starts a quilt and I can't believe the hours put into hers so the one that won, just wow, a lifetime of love sitting with a needle in hand...art made with love..
Love the fall quilt..couldn't you just see one of those home with long staircase, tripple level and any of those quilts hanging from the wall...powerful...
These creative individuals must be artists in their own right to be this creative..
Can't stay long, giving one more coat to baseboards, then outside to wash a wagon that the boys no longer use..will bring it to LeeAnn for her little boy Taye...so much to do before 8am..
Talk when I get to the office...
Morning everyone. Betty you can use that wagon for hauling heavy things around the yard. I use mine all the time!
Laura, those stories are so touching. You have a wonderful husband for sure!
I will have to think on a story about mine! He has done nothing like your's has done.
LK
Sharron my mind is going crazy. When I see quilts like that, it's always "I want to do that one" or "that one" or "I really must try this one". They are just beautiful. We get the International show here in NH in August and I always try to go. The inspiration is fantastic and it's fun to see the differences in cultures. Thank you so much for sharing. Barb
LindaKay, I had already promised the wagon to Taye one day when he was in the office...watch me now go buy one to do yard work..lol...
If all goes well I want to purchase a riding lawn mower and wagon like Carol has, perhaps not a John Deer but a rider no less..easier to work in the yard...
So now I have to decide patio door/labor to install or
riding lawnmower and wagon...which shall be first?
It's beautiful out there this morning, I finally got to wear one of my pretty outfits..guess I'll be living in them from now until fall..so many variations of color and style..no ironing/easy cleaning..woopie...
I did get all the trim ready, swept the floor ready for the linoleum so let's hope this afternoon all goes according to hoil..
I even I time to look at Norm's Garden Center sale flyer..lot's I could come home with for sure..had a 7gal.pail flowering crab tree for $39.99 but, between all I've undertaken, trip, window, flooring, washroom door over the past 2 weeks, think I'd best cool it..wouldn't want to have to tell construction men I've no $$ to pay them right..
I'll be anxious to get home tonight to see if they've started their project..most likely not until next week...oh well..
That is just wonderful.. My daughter and grandson both ride so boy would I love to be able to make something like that. Alas, my painting talent lies in walls and windows, not canvas or fabric. I does challenge me to find a downloadable picture and print it out on fabric though. I may just try something like that. Only problem is the size would be limited. Thank you so much.. Barb
Me loving country I especially like the last one..wouldn't it look lovely in my little cafe room?
Wow, fabric painting..excellent job...
We also Shar have a quilt show not far from here in Midhurst and then the big exhibit in Toronto..I also try to attend both..but these you are showing are exceptional..
Jeannine will be in awe of these quilts...
Thanks for sharing them..your day went well?
Barb you could quarter it, enlarge and put on 4 print out blocks..would do much the same..what breed of horses? My girlfriend Diane has Passofina's (?)
Barb, you could do it as a wallhanging, and do like Betty says, in quarters.
My day was great, yes, Betty. We walked for miles and miles, and I could hardly move last night, so went to bed early, but I did have a good day. Our weather is in the upper 80's yesterday and today, probably all weekend, so that is nice too.
OMG Shar, our weather is going to be much the same, well above norm temps..only problem with being excited about it, is at some point we'll pay..might have rain later tonight but other than that, the most perfect weekend weather wise..
So glad you made sunshine with your day..what beauty to behold..I can well imagine how tired you were when you arrived home..how many miles did you have to travel to this exhibit?
As for the painted one, can just imagine how hard after using fabric paint or fabric medium in the paint it was to quilt..someone is sure to have sore fingers..worth it though..
If you did it in quarters, you could make it look like your looking aout a window?
Lovely quilts Sharran, thanks for sharing.
Betty, we will be waiting for the finished project pictures!
Don't over do it!
LK
It was held in Paducah, where there is a Quilt Museum, and is only about 18 miles or so from my home. It's where I do any big shopping, so not far.
Actually, I think most of the quilts are machine done, so doubt if fingers are sore. They had so many displays of long arm machines, it was fascinating. The one that won had textural effects that had been added after being finished, so that would have been done by hand.
Excellent idea LindaKay, lordy you are a smartie pants..lol..yes, wouldn't it look lovely as a 'look out the window' piece..window strips wouldn't have to be wide..
I'd be afraid Shar to go and watch those long arms quilting machines work..John's repair shop around the corner has a wooden system, called Little (?) can't remember, but apparently you use your own machine along with this system..said one lunch hour I'd go over for a hands on...not sure, was below $2,000 and John said there were quite a few women in the area who had them..before I'd purchase something like that I'd have to speak with them...NOT that I want one..WOULD want the electronic one but they are so expensive...
Tubby, my turn....

The painted one is wonderful. Oh my, what a joy to have attended that quilt show. Hummm, maybe some year....
Marion, do you not have an exhibit somewhere near you?
My favorite thing in Florida Marion each year I was there was to attend the big craft show in Ft. Myers at the Community Center/Arena and also to do all the craft shows along the waterways
We have a quilt exhibit each year in one of the state buildings--some really neat quilts on display there but nothing to compare to the ones Sharran has posted. There are local quilt shows but Paducah is the "show of all shows" for quilters.
Mary, I am sorry, I forgot to respond about the flower. Yes, they do grow wild in the southern part of the state--reseed themselves for sure. They were in the yard where I grew up but I don't have enough sunny area for them at this house. They seem to be "one tough" plant.
Betty, I know the one you are referring to and yes, I have been when I have been visiting my Mom and Sister. Haven't been recently as timing has been off for the show. It is huge and can tire a person out walking all over it.
I am sitting here in total awe of the fantastic works involved with those quilts. Funny but the one of the kitchen reminds me of one a quilter in Tallahassee did of the Suwanee River Quilt Shoppe in Trenton. When I first say the photo of it I thought it was a photo of the interior of the show, it was so detailed, even to the individual bolts of fabric. Of course there was the cage with the cock a too in the picture also--Sonny is the shop bird--very vocal I might say. Loves to see someone bend over and then do a "wolf whistle". First time that happened it shocked me but then Stephanie (the owner) told me her husband has spent hours teaching him to do that. Funny when you think about it.
Marion, it usually happens late Feb. early March...goodness I loved that show..have a funny story about it, I had taken my sewing machine with me to Florida because I was spending a few months and thought I might need something to keep me busy..anyway, bought some cotton yardage that looked like jean material..mayb 4 or 5 different designs..made a quilted sweater for DIL..the morning of the show I knew it would be cold inside that big building so wore it..this woman was following me around and finally stopped me, asked where I got it, I said I had just finished making it, she asked if she could see it, took it, tried it on, took her wallet out and said 'how much'..told her no, it was for DIL and she said 'don't care, make her another'..honestly, my girlfriend Linda and I looked at each other, didn't know what to say, actually stunned would describe it better..I went home with $$$ and she went home with my quilted sweater....
The waterfront shows in Ft.Myer area always had such unique things...car was filled to the brim on my return trip..
Yes, Marion, the Paducah show does draw the international crowd. It is an amazing show, and miles and miles of people. It is worth it, though, because probably the best quilts are shown there from everywhere. I spent a lot of time with a woman from Great Britain, she was with a group that had originated in Germany. They came as a group to Nashville, about 100 miles south of us, and the 2 day trip to Paducah was part of their tour. There are many quilters who come from Japan, too, but it is hard to understand them. The town of Paducah is not very large, so every hotel, motel, bed and breakfast, private home, is filled with quilters for the entire week. I don't try to even shop while they are here. Melody and I left early, but even so, it was crowded, and the exhibit space is huge.
I think I must be at least 2 inches shorter today, I walked so much.
I was amazed at all the quilting boutiques in Florida Marion..in Clearwater about 2 blocks away from mom's is the nicest quilting store..also make teddy bears...love visiting it but lordy you almost have to mortgage the house to pay for the yardage..
lol bet those who frequented the shop enjoyed the whistle..
OMG Shar, they just get better with every posting..although the alphabet is beautiful, just take a look at that star...
Shar, those that compete and win, they do get to take their quilts back don't they?
Sharon (sister) won area, district and provincial..finally she did not continue in the competition, apparently she would have had to sign a form saying that if her's won, it would be kept and displayed in Toronto Quilt Museum (not sure of the name) .. she'd get a token $$$ figure but NO quilt...she wouldn't hear of it...too much work involved not to keep it for the next generation
