Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #100 visit with friends.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

They have a choice of keeping or selling. The grand prize was twenty thousand, some take the money and leave the quilt, some don't. Up to the quilter.

We do have a quilt museum in Paducah. It houses some really beautiful past winners, as well as notably old historic quilts.

Victoria Harbour, ON

That would be such a hard decision to make Shar..we'll one day I'll have to travel your way and you can give me the tour of Paducah!

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Will do. Maybe some others could join us and we could tour the quilt show in April.
It is in the mid 80's now, and days are lovely, so I am getting ready to go play in the dirt. I have weeds taller than my knees in the flower beds. Ugh.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Betty, that sounds like something we should do!! Go to the show in Paducah. LOL, Sharran, 2 inches shorter? I couldn't afford to lose that many inches.
Ah, Betty, the show is Bucklers!! I knew it would come to me sooner or later. I am not surprised about the selling of the sweater. I have had similar things happen--funny thing is very simple plain items. Go figure.

Well, it is funny to watch the reaction to some people in the shop who don't know about the bird. Some are very indigent and other when they figure it out really get a good laugh about it.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

I didn't have two inches to lose either....Maybe when I am able to straighten upright again.....

Think about it for next year, might be a trip you could make.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh please don't tempt me!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Shar, think I was in Paducah at some point in time..is there something else it's famous for??? something that a soul like me might have wanted to visit? Not a train station for Casey Jones?

Are we all just tip toeing to reach 5'???

Always say I don't have a weight problem I have a height problem..if I were taller, I'd not be 'fluffy'..lol

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Nothing more in Paducah, Betty. It is just off interstate 24, a short corridor hooking Illinois with Nashville...sort of an east/west run. It is a river town, though, the Ohio, Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers sort of converge there and so does the Mississippi nearby and to the west. Small town, not much to be seen.

Until yesterday I was about 5'1".

Serious, Marion.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Keep racking my brain as to why it sounds so familiar..on the Grand Ole Opry was there an Earl of Paducah? me and country music go hand in hand, should say did, after roger passed on, it was just too overwhelming to listen to..even to this day I rarely do...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Jumping up and down, just got a call from Bernie and Ross..they arrived at my house shortly after I left...window is in..

Now I have to go pick up trim for it, get it painted, he's ordered the metal trim for outside and is hoping to come back Monday to finish the job..I'm excited about this..didn't take time at all..

Ross told me that I can NOW go buy the patio door for back bedroom...lol...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Well Sharran, I am always serious, unfortunately things do happen I can't always do things I want to do or plan to do. My Mom is 90 and now I am "thinking" I will be sending a great deal of time at her home. She is facing surgery, which has me concerned, but the doctors say she is in very good health and should be fine. I should know more in the next week or so. They need to do a knee replacement and I will need to go help my sister as she is still working.

Baton Rouge, LA

HA! You all are funny!

Betty -Funny post! We're missing hearing from Tubby!

Sharran - more quilt shows and the weeds will be taller than you!

Marion - Good to know - maybe it's a flower even I can't kill :)

Headed to lunch....

Hugs,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry to hear about your mom Marion..that's quite a drive to her house as well..bet your a torn between wanting to be home and playing and that of going to help out..your sister is the one with all the kitties right?

these old gals (know from my grandmother who broke her hip in late 80's) are cut from a cloth unlike us..seems they can outlive most things..strong as can be...still a worry though isn't it?

Speaking of knee operations, has anyone heard from Audrey? Hope the operation went well...

Just getting ready to walk over to the restaurant for soup and sub..
I am so anxious to get home this aft. - only thing that takes the joy out of my weekend is the call I got from Carol, reminding me that I joined a 'card making' class..must be in Barrie at 12:30 tomorrow and class will be until 4:00..so tempted NOT to go..fee was $45.00 including supplies so not a big loss...what to do, what to do???

just want to stay home and play..am sure there is a lot of cleaning both upstairs with the work the men did and downstairs after we complete the craft room project..

Cards session sounded good in February when I registered...why not now...oh, now I remember, 80 degree weather...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Inspite of dry weather, growing in a sandy yard and being trampled on by many people on the weekends, I would say it is hardy!! Good luck.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh you are so correct about being cut from a different cloth. Her mom lived to 101 and survived raising 11 children. She actually gave new meaning to the "tough ole cookie" phrase!!! ....and yes, my sister is the one with all the cats!!! Yes, I am torn between wanting to finish some projects here and being there but without a doubt my Mom will come first. I had hoped to join Kim in Costa Rica the middle of July but even that "is up in the air" at this time. Oh well, one day at the time.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Mary, morning...

those flowers look like our 'Indian Blankets' once the start multiplying it's hard to get rid of them...gorgeous looking though and deep colors..

What are you up to this weekend...?

Another play tonight?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hard to plan Marion when you've elderly parents..

Grandma (who raised me) was much the same..came home from school one day, she was using back then the old ringer washer and had got her arm caught somehow..here she was sitting with needle and thread sewing her arm..needed mega stitching...when she finally went to the doctor's another time he looked at her arm and said he'd not have done a better job than she..she was 99 when she died..sure do miss her..not a day goes by she's not in my thoughts...guess a lot has to do with pain thresh hold...

OMG let's hope everything works out for the best and you can go to Costa Rica...

When do they have the operation scheduled for?

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Betty, not sure there ever was an earl of Paducah....Duke of Paducah, maybe, but that's just a local thing. It is so far out of the mainstream, doubt you have been through. The quilt show is only 25 years old, so unless you came through during the past 25 years, there wasn't much here to draw the attention.

Marion, we'll think about it for next year.

Mary, I have been out weeding all the last hour, and there are already some weeds that are very nearly nose level. I just overloaded myself on cold water, it is very very warm in those weeds.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, here is the "Duke" for you Sharran was right. http://www.countrymusichalloffame.com/site/inductees.aspx?cid=116

Great news about the window! The flooring goes in today also, yes? I can't wait for pictures.

I have been in and out today. Right now have Izzy out on her run, and she is busy digging holes for DH to fill in. He is on way home from work to make his mothers birthday cake. He has some elaborate scheme thought up.

Not much else going on...laying low today.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Is he a chef/baker Debbie..seem to recall he is..thanks yep that's what I'm remembering..just going to the thread you provided..must have been me after looking at him remembering him from the early 50's right..lol..

Just got a tuna sandwhich and pop, going to sit on front step for 1/2 hr....so beautiful outside I just don't want to be here...3 can't come soon enough..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, sounds like you have a very busy week-end planned?
Marion, sorry to hear about your Mom, but the sooner she has it sone, the faster she will be on the mend.
I have not seen Audrey posting anywhere. She may still be in the hospital? I was there for like 5 days with mine!
LK

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, he is not a chef or baker. It is more of a hobby or challenge for him that he really gets into. His DM, who had 7 children, made all of them take 4H classes. He love the cooking and cake decorating classes, and actually won ribbons at the State Fair for pies and a cake back in high school. He has lost his touch a bit...but still enjoys it once in awhile.

Baton Rouge, LA

Deb - I supposed he's not making Mom an Achmed cake? HA!

Betty - Yup - second and last Dracula showing is tonight....there are new "Cast B" members that I would like to see. Line the Nowegian Exchange student for one....she said I "Talked her into" being in the play so I suppose I should go watch!

I ordered 4 Long Stemmed Rose bouquets for the Four girls I'm going to see....

Hmmm...Might have to call back and get one for the Drama teacher.....

Hugs,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

How wonderful Debbie, his mother will so appreciate a cake made and deocrated with his own hands...Roger loved to cook especially for crowds but didn't like baking..that was my job, surprisingly I'm good at it, just not cookies..forget about them in the oven..lol

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm sure Mary the drama teacher would be appreciative of receiving one along with the girls...are they the only girls in the play?

How much longer will Line goes home?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Pressed send before including the tid-bit of gardening information I real in the outdoor living megazine...

Probably something you all already do but just incase..

Says before you go outside to work in the garden (especially those who do not wear gloves - such as I) run your fingernails deeply into a bar of soap, it will fill the gap under the nail with soap, you won't feel it and the dirt will not be able to get under your nails...

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh Mary, I am so laughing reading your post about the roses. No, not that you are doing it but what my oldest GD ask me last night. We usually take flowers to their dance recital and it will be the youngest GD's first recital. Well I was asked if I would just bring flowers to the young one; the older one would like a box of candy!!! Where do they come up with all of this? I think flowers are so very nice for work well done. Students doing a play certainly deserve that!!!

Lucky you Debbie, a hubby who likes to bake. Please post picture of the cake.

LK, we won't know until next Tuesday what the next step will be regarding Mom's knee. She is to point she has great difficulty walking even with a walker or cane. Doesn't slow her mind up, not in the least. LOL

Well back to the laundry.........

Victoria Harbour, ON

LOL met she gets antsy not getting around like she's used to..hospital in her town or will you have to travel some each day while she's in there?

Were you not visiting her last year about this time when she was ill? maybe she just misses you and wants you buy her side....just kidding..

Baton Rouge, LA

Not the only girls in the play....so I'll just be sneaky about how I pass them out....just don't know the other girls as well.

These 3 (plus my DD = 4) are at my house all the time....

Line goes back somewhere around June 18th. The German exchange student is jealous because his different organization has him going back June 6th...

They don't want to leave!

So Marion - they are placing special orders now! HA!

Headed out - back after the play most likely...

Hugs,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

They'll be missed by your children as well..what a great experience it's been for them though..who knows, one day perhaps your children will go for a visit..

I've a young man, we'll he's now 41 whose parents stayed in Germany but sent Oliver here to live and go to school..he was only in his early teens, well you might as well say I was his 2nd mom..lived at our house..even today he treats me as his 'mom'...quite a character..those childhood friends usually stay friends for life..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well girls, I'm shutting down, 5 minutes to go but a few things need done..I'm just so excited to get home..best I check my gas guage, think I'm on empty..lol

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Enjoy the play tonight Mary. Yes, they are already placing orders--the oldest one that is for sure. Oh well I love every minute of it.

Yes, Betty I was there July will be a year ago when she fell and broke 6 ribs. I stayed almost a month at that time and yes, again, she will be at a hospital about 40 miles from where she lives as far as we know at this time. Tuesday should bring more information.

Everyone have a wonderful weekend, daughter and I have tons of things we must get done tomorrow as Sunday we will be gone for the day. Been invited to a house warming/cookout by a member of the festival committee. Should be a lot of fun.

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Mary And Betty those are both good one liners..LOL
Tilled last of veggie garden..Then helped Shirley weed in flower bed..That woman worked my butt off..LOL We did good..Darn grass type weed..Finally got most of the mowing done..Seemed like I spent more time repairing mowers then mowing..Just one step away from going to sears for a new one..But I'm to stubborn, just give me enough time & Patience And I'll get them running correctly MAYBE..LOL

I skip read the posts..I hope all is good..

I did see that Audrey is getting her knee fixed..Good..Hope everything goes well..

The One Flaw In Women
By the time the Lord made woman,
He was into his sixth day of working overtime.
An angel appeared and said,
'Why are you spending so much time on this one?'
And the Lord answered, 'Have you seen my spec sheet on her?
She has to be completely washable, but not plastic,
have over 200 movable parts, all replaceable
and able to run on diet coke and leftovers,
have a lap that can hold four children at one time,
have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart
-and she will do everything
with only two hands.'

The angel was astounded at the requirements.
'Only two hands!? No way!
And that's just on the standard model?
That's too much work for one day.
Wait until tomorrow to finish.'

'But I won't, ' the Lord protested.
'I am so close to finishing this creation that is so close to my own heart.
She already heals herself when she is sick
AND can work 18 hour days.'

The angel moved closer and touched the woman.
'But you have made her so soft, Lord.'
'She is soft,' the Lord agreed,
'but I have also made her tough.
You have no idea what she can endure or accomplish.'

'Will she be able to think?', asked the angel.
The Lord replied,
'Not only will she be able to think,
she will be able to reason and negotiate.'

The angel then noticed something,
and reaching out, touched the woman's cheek..
'Oops, it looks like you have a leak in this model.
I told you that you were trying to put too much into this one.'

'That's not a leak,'
the Lord corrected,
'that's a tear!'
'What's the tear for?' the angel asked.

The Lord said, 'The tear is her way of expressing her joy,
her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her love,
her loneliness, her grief and her pride. '
The angel was impressed.
'You are a genius, Lord.
You thought of everything!
Woman is truly amazing.'

And she is!
Women have strengths that amaze men.
They bear hardships and they carry burdens,
but they hold happiness,
love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy
and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice.
They don't take 'no' for an answer
when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel
and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about
a birth or a wedding.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member,
yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss
can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you
to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have vital things to say and everything to give

HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE TINY FLAW IN WOMEN,

IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.
PLEASE pass this along to your women friends and relatives
to remind them just how amazing they are..

Isn't that the truth Tubby..

Well I'm about to call it a night..sure thought I'd accomplish more..

When I got home at 4:00 Mike and Darlene were already cutting the flooring and fitting..of course I had to run upstairs to look at the window..

then got into my glad rags and I started to help Darlene glue the seams while Mike did some fancy cutting to fit under the bookcase area...

Darlene then got the idea that in order to keep seams close together while glue had to cure that we'd put tape so they didn't move and something to heavy to help out...

Drats, here I thought no sooner was it down in could come all that craft stuff so I could clean..nope, have to leave it till tomorrow..Mike and Darlene will be back early morning and the baseboard trim goes on and hopefully I'm ready to organize that room...

Here's where we are so far..
Thanks goodness I've all those paint buckets to organize my colors, they weigh a ton so I'm sure it will work..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Did the side room as well..got to thinking, ordered 7 doors, need one for this area as well so will have to contact the man and add another..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

I had missed Ross and Bernie..they had to order the jtrim for the outside of the window..I called to talk to them and they gave me a list of trim and a few other things...after Darlene and Mike left off I went to Home Depot..got all the supplies they needed (sitting in the car till morning, then it's painting I do)..guys might be back over the weekend so I have to be prepared..

I had the siding done I think it was last year and bought all the shutters, well now I need another pair as the ones that were on the window are about half the size so my dear friend at Home Depot ordered me a set..OMG Home Depot has skyrocket junipers on sale right now for $19.99 and tomorrow they are on sale for $15.99 ..I sure could use about 6..something to think about tonight while I rest...

Thought I'd stop in at the Dollar Store, after all, once I'm organized I'll need new table clothes..so, managed to get out of there just spending $24.00..bargooons galore..lol

Window without trim, still has to have the insulation put in when the do the outside trim...but lordy it makes a difference with the amount of light coming in..the little window there before you just couldn't see out of unless you stood up..so great improvement even unfinished..hey what do I want for 1 day right...

If you look outside you can see something covered in white...yep, the Foxy Lady..finish what I'm doing then she needs to be polished, buffed and can be put into the water..

So much to do...

Judy, I just had a bonfire..lots of wood from the wall they took out to burn..sure is nice...

So dear friends I've enjoyed my day with you..I'm tired, just finished dusting and washing the floors, tomorrow I'll go over it again ... early rising so best I go to bed..

Night/night everyone..

Very interesting stuff. Some I remember (few)

Alaska
More than half of the coastline of the entire United States is in Alaska ..

Amazon
The Amazon rain forest produces more than 20% the world's oxygen supply.

The Amazon River pushes so much water into the Atlantic Ocean that, more

flow of all rivers in the United States ..

Antarctica
Antarctica is the only land on our planet that is not owned by any country.

Ninety percent of the world's ice covers Antarctica .. This ice also represents

seventy % of all the fresh water in the world. As strange as it sounds, however,

Antarctica is essentially a desert. The average yearly total precipitation is about

two inches. Although covered with ice (all but 0.4% of it, I.e.), Antarctica is the

driest place on the planet, with an absolute humidity lower than the Gobi desert.

used the slang expression 'apple' for any town or city. Therefore, to play New York

City is to play the big time - The Big Apple.
There are more Irish in New York City than in Dublin , Ireland ; more Italians in New

a sovereign entity under international law, just as the Vatican is.

Sahara Desert
In the Sahara Desert , there is a town named Tidikelt, which did not receive a drop

It has been said that one should learn something new every day.
Unfortunately, many of us are at that age where what we learn today, we forget tomorrow.

But, give it a shot anyway!

Just a quick hello, we are back from the in-laws. I am exhausted.

Here is the cake project DH did for his moms 70th birthday.

Talk to you all in the morning, I think I am turning in early.

It got up to 75 today...and the frosting was melting fast!
