Phyllis that is very pretty !!!!!!! I'll do pictures later in the summer when ours gets finished.

those are cannas in the back of it

Hey Girls ...I have been busy doing inside things when the weather has been phooey, and outside every second I can when it has not...I guess you could say I'm about half done inside and out... LOL My back has been semi cooperative...It will let me do things, but it makes me pay dearly later on...I am just trying to go with it, and rest it....Since I am now retired, it doesn't matter if I don't finish the laundry today...There is always tomorrow or the day after.. It's not like we are going to go nekkid anytime soon...
Cookie just brought over her car so I could go and get some birdseed...
There was less than a cupfull in the feeder and it is supposed to freeze again here tomorrow night...I have a pair of nuthatches and a pair of Carolina wrens that have practically been living in that feeder, and they need food to hold them over til this rotten freezing weather is over with...
I still have about 1/2 a 5 gal bucket of finch seed so I wasn't worried about them...The little Wren sits on the side of the feeder for really long periods of time and looks in the window at me when I am here at my desk...I couldn't live with myself if I didn't have any seed in it this weekend....

I have been lurking and watching all of the goings on over here, and sending prayers in the Smoke for all who need them and those who don't...You all are very right...DG has bought many of us from many different walks of life into one huge big Family...Many of us have met, many have hopes to, and many never will, but it doesn't lessen the love we all share...in so very many different ways....

I have been rather reflective today, being Good Friday...
42 years ago on a Good Friday, one of the Donut Dollies from the Red Cross came into my Hootch in Vietnam and gently shook me awake... by kicking my cot...She had been warned not to touch me or I would come up with a revolver in her face, and likely have already pulled the trigger...She came bearing the news that my GrandMothers Brother had passed away, and they had already set aside a plane seat for me to come stateside for the services....Hmmmmmm!!!
My GrandMother had no Brothers...I managed after 3 hours to get a call in to my GrandMother to see what was going on....My Mentor, Mr. Charles W. Kepler, my GrandMothers neighbor and a WW 1 nurse, had passed away just after noon on Good Friday...It was already Saturday in SE Asia, by the time they got to the Red Cross, and they were able to find me, it was almost Easter Sunday...

Mr. Kepler was a nurse in France in some of the bloodiest fighting in WW 1...He never married when he came home...He had issues that we now would be calling PTSD, and felt he was not fit company for a lady...
He was a profuse Gardener, both veggies and flowers, had no heirs....
I had carried Tapioca pudding to him in the summers as well as Grams Heavenly Hash, across the little dirt road to his backdoor since I was able to walk...I adored him and his stories, and he was the reason I became a nurse and he was my guiding light and Mentor all through nursing school and my Masters degree...I didn't know that he had made me his heir, and executor of his Will...

Gram knew only to call his attorney the minute he died, no matter what the day or hour...The attorney contacted the Red Cross and set the wheels in motion...They had to find a way to get me home on funeral leave, and they figured I would know that my Gram had no Brothers...
He had all of the funeral arrangements paid for...when, where, how, what and why right down to the flowers and music...He was a devout Catholic, and knew full well that I was not, and practiced Native ways...
We had many discussions on each others religions and practices, and I think we both came away enlightened...He chose not to be buried in a Catholic cemetary, rather the one next to the tiny 1 room Methodist Church where my Grams Aunt & Uncle were buried, and where Gram & Poppa had planned to go...In a very long letter to me written some years prior and, saved with the attorney, he told me he chose not to inconvenience me to visit him, as he knew I would be the one to look after the graves of my Grandparents, as I had done for many years for Grams Aunt & Uncle...

I went to visit the parish Priest who would come occasionally to give *Uncle Charlie* communion...(he never once owned a car or learned to drive) and he came and consecrated the grave...Neither of us knew if it was in the Catholic *Books* but it was done...and we hugged each other and both felt we had done the right thing...Less than an hour later, I was on a military helicopter being ferried to a plane to take me back to the next 7 years of my own bloody War...with Uncle Charlies voice in my ear at all times....

I will leave you all on this night with Uncle Charlies words....

**Remember my child, this is Easter, and Christ has risen from the abomination that his fellow man put him through, to prove to us that there IS a hereafter...however you perceive it to be....**

Be at Peace this night and this Holy weekend my Sistahs....Enjoy the time with Family and friends....

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY COOKIE!!!!! I love you !!

Oh Phyllis, is that Mexican Petunia on the left? I got some from Deoborah/Coreledawg last summer and they are starting to put out new growth. Can't wait to see them bloom.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Dusty, I just love reading your stories. Have you ever wrote a book?

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

My Nam Brother is in Murfreesboro TN, and I cannot reach him on his cellphone...Please say a prayer for him and his Family....

Sugar Valley, GA(Zone 7b)

Nooooo but my Hubby did....

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Has anyone ever watched "The Doctors"? Travis Stork is a cutie. There is a woman that wants to have a 38 Triple K breast implant, her boyfriend who has paid for the past implants said he couldn't handle it any more so she broke up with him.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Yes, I do remember you saying that. Have you ever thought about it? You would be really good. My uncle always had intresting stories to tell. He was a prison guard at Folsom Prison.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

Yes Cindy that is what those are and the name I spaced out LOL...some are p[purple some are pink

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Ummmm.... if anyone wants some of them darn Mex Petunias... just say the word... I planted a start from my sister last year, and they've taken over everything... PURPLE... it's sending out runners where I didn't want them... and they're coming up in the yard too... sheesh... see pic below.

Thanks all for your vote and comment on my desperate landscape... as you can all see, I'm not much of a gardener. That lower level has me a bit stumped, and overwhelmed.
If you haven't voted for me... I wish you would... so here's the link again.

Yep... hope all those in the fires, tonados, storms of all caliber... fair alright... sure hope they get all these fires under control soon... we don't need to be worrying about our loved ones in other parts of the country.

I got an email from Mike's mom in Austria... she reports that spring has finally arrived there... and she had to take a week of vacation to celebrate it. Mike told me today, that he's just a tad homesick now... he loves Austria when winter breaks, and spring starts sprouting in their gardens. BUT.... too bad... I told him that I get to keep him till it gets really really hot... so he knows what a Texas summer really feels like... (it's only gotten up to 85* here so far) I keep telling him, "IT AIN'T HOT YET"... he argues that point with me all the time.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Oops forgot the pic of the Mex Petunia. (left, the purple one)

I think those Mex. petunias are beautiful. love anything purple. Is that 'bridal' wreath next to it? That's the name we always called it, don't know what the real name is. but I think it's very pretty too.

I've been lurking here and love reading all your posts. Prayers to Ok., Tn., Tx., and La. folks. Stay safe and may the rains come and put out the fires, and all the tornadoes left not touch ground anywhere. So much mother nature violence!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

BJ, I'll take some of the purple Mex Petunia ^_^

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

BJ ,I left a comment ,I really don't feel what I wrote....You said do what ya gotta do ,so I did it.

The Mex Petunia are beautiful, but I'm sure they wouldn't grow here ,too cold.

Marilyn Glen st. Mar, FL(Zone 9a)

BJ, wouldn't your weather be sort of like Florida weather? We had 83º today and heading there tomorrow. I have my windows open, it is so nice to have 'fresh' air going through the house. It will be nice sleeping tonight, breeze outside, listening to the windchimes, and drifting off to peaceful sleep.
Today was our last day of school before spring break, 9 days to play in the dirt. Oh I am in heaven on earth.

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

BJ are you sure that is Mexican Petunia? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1428/
And not African Daisy. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/155316/
