I'm with you Sherrie, all these pics of hellebores here and over in the PNW forum have me wanting. They are lovely!
Garden Photos of '09.... #12
I love the bright green throat of Minerva , I think it and 'Picotee' are 2 of my favorites.
I get so thrilled when they bloom a second time
How do you get them to do that.
We got some from HD for Xmas and they bloomrd 1s and then went south as they say.
I want to find a co-op next fall and pot some up for holiday gifts.
It would be nice if they rebloomed for my friends.
you have to be lucky... only one out of my 4 re bloomed.... after the flower fades cut them off... and let the stalk shrivel up then cut that off an inch or two above the bulb... and hope for the best
I am so far behind with keeping up with this thread. Amazing orchids, nutsfordaylily, as well as hellebores. I am greatly impressed with all your raking, my least favorite chore. It is so nice to see the narcissus popping up everywhere.
I love my hippeastrums. Here is this weeks blooms. 'Apple Blossom' Patti
Enjoying everyone's wonderful photos.
Victor you have me worried that I killed my Josephine by transplanting it too late. I have no sign of life on her so far.
Patti's Sagiatta Daf is also worrying me that I planted those too late as well. All my dafs are up minus those and the billy grahams I planted at the same time.
Karen you made me want to find one of those Prince Hellebores -it's a beauty!
Meredith : )
Pretty Patti... do you put that whole pot in the fridge or dig it out every year?
Onewish1. I don't put anything in the frig. After they bloom in the winter I cut back the blooming stalks, and continue watering them while they grow leaves and then after the last frost, I move the hippeastrum out for the summer in their pots in some partial shade on the porch and then in the fall I bring them all back inside and begin to withhold water for 6 weeks. If they have any foliage still left, I cut that off at this time, or until I see them beginning to send up some green. They need this non watering period for a rest. Some people put them in a cool dark spot during this time. At the point where I see some green, I begin to water them again and then wait for the spikes and the blooms. I continue watering them well until the following fall. Easy, they come back each year, with usually two big bloom spikes. They like a snug fit in the pot. I have about 50. Here are some that have bloomed since Jan of 2009. Patti
Great shots, Karen and Patti! Love the late-day sun shots, Karen.
Meredith - it might still be a bit early for your clems. Are any others coming up yet?
wow 50 of them.... I held back the water last year.... didn't know to cut it off after 6 weeks... my did not bloom ...I did not bring them outside either... will have to try again
my mom and Randy's mom both gave me the ones I gave them... hopefully I can get them to bloom again
Great info on the Amarylis - the place I bought mine told me to do something similar. Except he said plant them in the ground. I was thinking pots would be easier so I'm glad to know that works for you.
Victor b- funny thing is I went out and checked them all after I posted and it looks like Josephine has made it after all. :) there are a couple shoots coming up. One I planted last spring still isn't doing anything. And my multi blue has leaf buds on it - but no new shoots yet. I am so happy Josephine made it. She has been tortured since I bought her two years ago. I think I finally have her in a good spot now. The bad thing is the ones I had from 2 years ago both got wilt! So I am hoping that what I've read about the plants sometimes outgrowing it is true.
Aren't Group B/2 clemmies slower to come? That group doesn't do well here so I don't know. All my Group A's have leaf buds now.
Well that answers that. Josephine is back ^_^
Both 2's and 3's seem to leaf out at about the same time for me.
Don't you cut your 3s down to the ground in the spring Victor?
Yes.
Had to double check - mine are all type 2. If they continue to get wilt - I will only buy type 1s in the future. The One that isn't doing anything yet - gets the least amount of sun and it was from bluestone so it was a very young plant. It didn't even appear to grow at all. I hope it was developing a good root system as it should. : )
Anita.... white forsythia is actually not a forsythia. So... you knew correctly! They are actually an Abeliophyllum as opposed to a true Forsythia.... http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1529/
I love all the pics of the Hippea's!!
Great pics, Patti. Those amaryllis are really something.
Karen
Wow---wonderful photos! Thanks for the info on the amaryllis, Patti---I'm keeping mine in the pot this year. Karen, I have one hellebore that someone gave me, & it hasn't bloomed yet! Foliage is nice, though. Jo Ann---I'll be in Pittsford the 1st week of Aug.---not sure of the dates just yet. You & Debi better save something for me at Gro More's.
Robin, I think hellebores can take up to 5 years to bloom from seed. If your plant was young when you got it, then you will have to be very patient. If you don't want to wait a long time, always get one that's already blooming.
Karen
very pretty RC
The silene looks like something I could use.
I'm checking it out.
Thanks RC
OK I looked on google and found nothing that resembled your plant.
Silene they show looks like a weed here with tiny flowers
is this it?

Why cant we have what we want when we want it? lol
How are all your plants doing?I have watched the pictures, it doesnt seem that long ago the cuttings were delivered.
