After they bloom in the winter I cut back the blooming stalks, and continue watering them while they grow leaves and then after the last frost, I move the hippeastrum out for the summer in their pots in some partial shade on the porch and then in the fall I bring them all back inside and begin to withhold water for 6 weeks. If they have any foliage still left, I cut that off at this time, or until I see them beginning to send up some green. They need this non watering period for a rest. Some people put them in a cool dark spot during this time. At the point where I see some green, I begin to water them again and then wait for the spikes and the blooms. I continue watering them well until the following fall. Easy, they come back each year, with usually two big bloom spikes. They like a snug fit in the pot. I have about 50. Here are some that have bloomed since Jan of 2009. Patti
