Thomaston, CT

Oh--what beautiful foliage on the JMs---and I love the hellebores, esp the rose colored one. Just buds on my JM---can't wait to see the foliage! And Shelley---if it's a skunk---mothballs will repel it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Only buds on my older ones too, Robin. All the ones with foliage are the new ones.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

A question..Does anyone know if my butterfly bush should be showing signs of life by now? It's in a large pot.

ge1836, love the your combo ideas. I have an order coming from Pollyk's Siberian Iris Gardens too. I had seen some of the ones I ordered blooming at Boojum's over the years, so when I saw that Pollyk's new business had some of them, I ordered them for my new Japanese Maple bed. The I noticed that Boojum was letting Pollyk use her photo's for her web site. Cool connections here on DG. Patti

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have gone on in rapsodies about how my gardening changed in the year Ive been a member.
Polly will have a co-op this fall.
Its too cold to go out now and start planting, just drives me nut to wait.
The Iris's have been soaking overnight.
I love your gardens and will add more taller plants to mine. I also think a few small shrubs wouldnt hurt.
I want a Witch hazel now that I saw Redchicks in Feb.

Nice combos Jo Ann. Is the hosta you selected sun tolerant?

Thanks Victor. I'll give it one more week before it goes to compost heaven.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Victor...informative photos as always. Bit by bit, my yard is being filled in by plants of the genera "victorgardener. Heptacodium is looking good its second spring. This will be the summer it hides the electrical box on the side of the house from the road. Even the first summer it was a marked improvement from the old, diseased and poorly pruned magnolia bush which had been in its spot when we bought this house three years ago.

Rockport, ME(Zone 5b)

Anitabryk2, I got their Fragrant Bouquet collection the year before last (paid more than that, too!). Some made it, some didn't last year, but the smell of those that did were just heavenly. I can't wait to see what comes up this year. Some have spread!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I love my fragrant Iris's, they are a soft scent, not over powering.

Jen I love the pic you started the thread with. B.Pear is a sure sign spring has sprung!

Nice pics Victor, like the ones of the hellebore best.

venu!! I am taking Pirls advise and mulching the Hosta Mr. Watson as well as all the others.
Our area is stones and clay, I keep a deep layer of mulch on everything to keep weeds down and moisture in there.
The part of the garden where theJI's are is sunny in the AM and afternoon.Lilies do well so I think the Iris will be OK.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Sounds like it should do well. The blue hosta's leaves burn up in any direct sun, seems like no matter how short a time. Those I keep in deep shade. Looks like you're going to have bountiful color.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have the Blue Angles about 6 feet away, down the border where the neighbors house keep them shaded on the east and Rhodies in the fountain garden keep it shaded on the west.
Mister Watson came as a bonus from Hallsons. I just stuck it there because i didnt develope a game plan for gardening until this winter.
I know better now.
I am less likely to impulse buy when at a nursery when I know where my plants are and what I need.
Here is where the Blue Angles are in front of the Rhodies,Im taking the picture from neighbors.
Its kinda dark where Angels are, very early photo.

Thanks all. I appreciate that, David! My hepta is reaching mature height now. Might do some trimming this year. I did remove a few branches the other day when I planted my Franklinia.

Yes - blue hostas plus sun equals toast.

Victor -I love the color on post 6392614
JoAnn- You have great color combos, a real artist eye.
Thanks Celeste, I was amazed at how good that pic came out, even hubby was impressed. ^_^

Thanks Jen - that's the one Allison liked too. Great colors in it.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

DH took some pictures yesterday, before we had the current monsoon hit last night. I adore Fritillaria. Here is Pudica & Raddeana and Narcissus Rip Van Winkle and a noid that we planted in 1983. Patti

Wow, so much going on.

Jo Ann, your place is coming right along. with your planning, it should look great this year.

Great pics as always Victor. I love the color of the bleeding heart. Is that 'King of Hearts?'

Bill, spring has finally shown up in your yard!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I just loved the way this willow looked in this location! (place where I do some landscaping) I need to put another plant or two at the base of it. Somebody else later on can deal with the effects of it and either bonsai it or move it. Personally I'd say bonsai it, but that's just because I'm a little partial to it.

If you want to see a little more of what's going on there, you'll have to follow this link and go towards the bottom of it.

I suppose that I should put the link in :-p http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/973344/

Beautiful, Shelly. Love the willow, and the color of the anemone. Sorry - I planted that dicentra so long ago I don't remember which it is. I seem to remember planting just the species.

Great shots of your amaryllis, Patti. That is something I don't have (yet!).

Great hellebore shots, Shelly! That mica is a really pretty one. I went to a friends house today and got a chance to see all of hers in bloom. She has quite a few. One in particular I really liked. She paid $50 for it a few years back. I didn't have my camera with me. Bummer.

Allison, that's a gorgeous painting of that 'Herme' camellia. Nice! Love the colors on that.

Replies to current thread:

Pretty Bradford pear blossoms, Jen!

David_Paul, I love the daff with scilla picture. Nice!

Great pics from your gardens, Venu! I especially like the yellow and red tulip. I have always wanted some of those. They do stand out well.

Love your 'Gypsy Queen' hyacinths and NOID daffs, Dyane!

Woa! Meredith, that really is a lot of money for one bulb cage. Could be made so much cheaper.

Victor, you have posted many nice shots, as usual. I must get the 'Peaches And Cream' JM, as that's my dog's nick name. Where would you recommend I get that?

Love those anemones, Shelly! Spectacular!

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

In general, I have gotten most of my JM's from Wildwood Maples and Fairweather Gardens, Karen. The place Bill found - Topiary Gardens, looks very good, though they don't generally carry larger sizes. But their plants are very bushy and healthy looking, and a good buy.
